Patricia Ann (Lippold) Watson passed into her eternal home on Monday, June 26th. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Amity United Methodist Church in Amity, MO followed by interment at the Amity Cemetery under direction of Turner Family&nbsp;Funeral Home of Maysville.&nbsp;

Patricia was born on November 13,1934 in Fortescue, Missouri, to Orville V. and Ina J. (McGuire) Lippold. She graduated from Oregon High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. The previous summer, her brother Orville had volunteered her to accompany his friend, Charles Watson, who was singing for the Bluegrass Queen Contest in Maitland, MO. They were married in 1952, making homes in California and Missouri where she continued to make beautiful music over the next seventy years as a solo artist at the Kansas City Club, with Charles in the duo “Chuck and Patty”, in the dance band “The Satin Sounds”, in church and with her family wherever they might gather.

While she held other jobs and worked in education as a preschool teacher, in the beauty industry for Estée Lauder and in health care as a CNA and chiropractic assistant, her true passion was her family, and her love as a wife, a mother, and a grandmother knew no bounds. She was a fabulous cook and a gracious hostess, and for years, her home in Independence, Missouri was where family and friends celebrated many holidays together.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Col Orville V. Lippold, USMC, David R. Lippold and LtCol Roger H. Lippold, USMC; brother-in-law CAPT James R. Perdew, USN; sister-in-law June Lippold as well as nephews Dave Lippold and Steve Fisher. Robert Owen Wasson Sr., 73 of Savannah, passed away Tuesday, July 18th, 2020 at a local hospital in St. Joseph. He was born November 17th 1949 to Robert A. and Cora Ruth (Withrow) Wasson. He married Deeana Faye Bowland on October 17th, 1975 at the United Methodist Church in Savannah MO and she survives with a home. &nbsp;

Robert proudly served in the US Navy for four years during the Vietnam conflict. And two years in the reserves. He worked in drywall for over 30 years. He was an active member of the Amazonia VFW Post 12053, where he had many different jobs. &nbsp;&nbsp;

He was an active member of the Savannah United Methodist Church where he attended, most of his life.

Survivors include his wife; children, Robert (Lori) Wasson Jr. and Tom (Bonnie) Wasson all of Savannah; brother, Rev. William (Sharon) Wasson of St. Joseph; sister, Patricia (Jasper) Penland of Savannah; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Monday July 24th, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Savannah. Visitation and family receiving hour with be 10:00am-11:00am, Monday July 24th, 2023 at the United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the funeral services in Bennett Lane Cemetery.

Loren Stanley Philliippe, 88, passed away from this life on Monday, July 17, 2023, at his home. Loren was born in Stanberry, MO on December 28, 1934 to Harley and Grace Phillippe.

Loren graduated from Stanberry High School in 1952, he married Marilyn Goforth on October 9, 1953 and then moved to St Joseph, they celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing on November 3, 2020. After moving to St Joseph he started working at Seitz Foods where he was employed for 47 years, retiring in 2000. He was also a veteran, joining the Naval Reserves in 1958.

In retirement he kept busy with his lifelong passion of hunting and fishing, the simple pleasure of mowing his lawn and gardening, along with helping to build house’s and projects that anyone needed a hand with, he was very generous with his time and loved helping others who could use his expertise in working on almost anything.

Riverside, Missouri - Craig Ryser, 38, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his home in Riverside, Missouri. Craig was born on August 27, 1984, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Bob and Pam (Petitt) Ryser. He was the proud father of two boys, Zakkary and Barrett.

Craig attended Wathena High School and graduated in 2003. He received a football scholarship to Benedictine College. Craig worked at White Cap as an inventory specialist, and he especially loved his security jobs, including Chiefs football games and Azura Amphitheater. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, and former member of the Wathena Volunteer Fire Department.

He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams included the Chiefs, Jayhawks, Huskers, Notre Dame, White Sox, and Penguins. He was also passionate about music. He loved going to as many concerts as possible and trying to learn to play the guitar. We will always think of him when we hear an AC/DC song.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charlie and Margaret Petitt, paternal grandparents, Bill and RoseMary Ryser, Uncles, Otto “Dick” Schultz, Charley Studer, Greg Bottorff, and cousin, Brad Liechti.

George V. Hankins II, 81, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Born on December 23, 1941, to William A. and Magna K. (Houg) Hankins in Madison, Wisconsin, George was a man who cherished his family, treasured his friends, and had a deep affection for his furry companions. He attended North Kansas City High School, graduating with fond memories of his youth.

George was an Eagle Scout and a proud warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was also an avid fan of the Chiefs and the Royals. He loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs dominate the football field and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Kansas City Royals baseball team. The thrill of their victories brought him immense joy and excitement.

The great outdoors held a special place in George's heart, and he embraced adventures with his beloved family. Whether it was boating, water skiing, or traveling in his RV, George was always up for the thrill of exploration. He also loved to dance, and his love for music would often bring him to the dance floor, where he would gracefully move to the rhythm with a smile on his face.

George possessed a warm and welcoming nature, never meeting a stranger. His magnetic personality and genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in his community, and he formed lasting friendships that he held dear.

After his retirement in 1995 from his role as a business development manager at Ford Motor Credit Company, George found joy in spending time on his patio with friends, engaging in lively conversations and sharing perspectives on the world's challenges.

On January 4, 2002, George married Judy Diann Mark. Together, they created a beautiful union filled with love, support, and shared dreams. George was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished first wife of 40 years, Faye (Bevier) Hankins, his sister, Nancy Cochran, and his daughter, Nancy Jane Hankins.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to his wife, Judy, and his children: Cynthia Ann Norris (Greg), William A.P. Hankins II (Elaine), Sarah Mark, and Erin Montegary (Reilly). Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Lindsay Selig (Justin), Hayley Haines (Ronnie), Nick Norris, and great-grandchildren Harper Faye Selig, Jordan Calven Selig, and Blakely Ann Haines.

George V. Hankins II 1941 - 2023

Kylee Eugene Dixon, 33, of Horton, Kansas chose to be with his Lord and Savior on June 16, 2023.

Kylee was born on April 7, 1990, in Topeka, Kansas to Danny Dixon and Pamela (Mayfield) Strecker. Kylee graduated from Stanberry High School in Stanberry, Missouri in December of 2008. He Joined the Navy before his high school graduation and was quickly shipped to basic training in Chicago, Illinois. From Chicago he went to the Navy’s “A school” in Pensacola, Florida where he graduated with honors as a Cryptology Maintenance Technician in 2009. After completing “A School” he went to Norfolk, Virginia where he completed “C School” with honors in Ancillary Systems in 2011. Kylee attended Strayer University and received a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Concentration in Homeland Security, also in 2011, with a 4.0 GPA. Kylee then boarded the USS Nimitz in Everett, Washington, as an Information Dominance Warfare Specialist. Kylee was proud to be able serve his Country and was discharged from the United States Navy October 5, 2012, with the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Kylee was currently receiving 100 percent service-connected disability from the Veterans’ Administration. &nbsp;

Kylee was a member of the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas. &nbsp;Kylee didn’t know a stranger, if you needed help, he was always there putting others before himself.

Survivors of Kylee Eugene Dixon are his fiancé Azaria Richey, his children: Blake, Paisley, Zaley, his mother Pamela (Shawn) Strecker, his bonus mother Georganne Dixon, a sister Brandi Carlson, a bonus Sister Shawna Strecker, his maternal grandmother Connie (Kirk) Gries.

Kylee was preceded in death by his father Danny Dixon and his maternal grandfather Gene Mayfield.

Kylee’s ashes will be buried at the VA National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2023. Rich Lehmkuhl will officiate. &nbsp;Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.

Daniel Monroe Newport, 74, of Platte City, MO, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO. Dan was born October 13, 1948, in Lexington, Missouri to Orville H. and Ruth M. (Bell) Newport. 

He was a graduate of Lexington High School. Dan served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam Conflict; and was always very proud of his service to this great country. He married La Donna Kay Wiesner on December 22, 1967, in K.C., MO. Dan was active in many courses at the local YMCA, loved to go to car shows with his friends, and enjoyed going on cruises. 

Dan is survived by his wife La Donna; son Aaron Newport; daughter Andrea (Rod) Lasley ; grandson Gage Jacobs-Newport; 2 brothers Bill Newport, and Roger (Pat) Newport, and their daughter Debbie Newport. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Interment with military honors will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS at 12:30 p.m.

Edna Catherine Lutes, 96, passed away July 16, 2023, at Living Community in St. Joseph, MO. She was born November 4, 1926, in rural Platte County to John Edward Koon and Alta (Young) Koon. 

Edna married her high school sweetheart, William A. Lutes, February 2, 1944, just before the Army shipped him overseas in World War II. They enjoyed 74 years of married life together. After his return in 1946 they moved to a rental farm west of Dearborn, MO where their children were born. Some years later they purchased a farm also near Dearborn, where Edna was a stay-at-home wife and mother to her family. Later she completed a course in accounting and office management and obtained a position with the University of Missouri Buchanan County Extension Service. She worked there for several years. Edna was a member of the Faucett Christian Church, Faucett, MO where she was very active and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. 

She is preceded in death by her spouse; parents; 3 brothers Carl Koon, John Koon, and Donald Koon; and sisters-in-law Virginia Koon and Karen Koon. 

Survivors include children Carolyn (Larry) Hirtler, Martin (Rhonda) Lutes, David (Maria) Lutes; grandchildren Chris Hirtler, Scott Hirtler, Matthew (Crystal) Lutes and Rachel Ralston; great grandchildren Jessica and Jackie Hirtler, Breanna Hirtler, Kylee Ralston, and Timberlyne Leader; and several special nephews and their wives.

Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Duffus 86 of Savannah, MO and formerly of Columbia, MO was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 at his home in Savannah. He was born on December 31, 1936 in Grinnell, IA to Lester and Elsie Duffus. &nbsp;

He grew up in Brooklyn, IA and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1955 and Central College in Pella, IA in 1960. He was immediately drafted into the US Army and was based in Ft. Monmouth, NJ until discharged in 1962 after serving an extra three months because of the Berlin crisis. He married Linda Louise Killion in 1964 at First Federated Church in Des Moines, IA. He received his Master’s degree from Drake University in 1966. &nbsp;

Jerry and Linda moved to Columbia, MO in 1967 where two children were born, Justin and Christine. Jerry worked at the University of Missouri Police Department until his retirement in 2005. He also invested in and managed rental houses. He was an American history enthusiast, visited many Civil War battlefields and sites, played in chess tournaments, loved music and visiting Branson, enjoyed classic cars, and followed the Chicago Cubs and Mizzou football and basketball.&nbsp; He was an active member of Compass Evangelical Free Church in Columbia and assisted with prison ministry and Bible studies over the years. In 2018 Jerry and Linda moved to Savannah, MO to live with their daughter’s family and became a member of Hosanna Fellowship Church.

Jerry was a loyal and faithful man who loved the Lord and cared deeply for his family. He is survived by his wife Linda; son, Justin (Kathy) Duffus of Nokesville, VA , and daughter Christine (John) Grisamore of Savannah; four grandchildren, Nathaniel (Olivia) Duffus, Linea Duffus, Kelli Duffus, and Easton Grisamore; one great-grandson, Jack Duffus; and one sister, Marylane (Dr. John) Heine of Kalispell, MT.

She was born July 25, 1935 in St. Joseph to J.D. and Winnie (Steiner) Keller.

Betty married Dennis A. Strasser on April 28, 1961. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2009.

She worked for C.D. Smith, which became AmerisourceBergen, retiring in 2005.

Betty loved horses, which she owned and trained. She also enjoyed antiques and nice cars. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Church in Amazonia, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Dennis; her parents; children, Clifford Berry and Susan Berry; brother, Douglas J. Keller; and sister, Jean Garber.

Survivors include son, Christopher Strasser; grandchildren, Ryan, Joseph (Whitney), Sara (Bryan), Jacob (Danielle), Adam and Luke (Demi) Strasser; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda Alders.

Age 63 died peacefully surrounded by all her children and grandchildren on July 15, 2023, at KU Medical&nbsp;Center Kansas City, Kansas. She beat pancreatic cancer and was cancer free, but her liver started failing&nbsp;and started to have complications. 

For the past year and a half, she fought courageously until the very&nbsp;end to stay with us, but God called her home.

Cindy was born on January 4, 1960, in Leavenworth Kansas to Mary Ellen Jones and Guss Jones. She was one of four children. She attended Lansing High School where she graduated the Class of 1978. Cindy was still working until the day she passed with the Leavenworth VA in the billing department. She was a very driven and hardworking person.

Cindy is survived by her 3 children: Lindsay and Partner Chris, Eli and Nataile, and their spouses Janey and Sean. 8 grandchildren: Gregory Tyler and Rileigh Cox, Gabe, Brenton, and Aaliyah Barker, Austin, Bryce, and Adam Zamora. 2 brothers Kevin and Greg Jones and 1 sister. Nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and family members.

Cindy loved her children and grandchildren, that’s what her life was all about. She spent all her time&nbsp;going off doing something for them or with them. Theres not an event that she missed. She was always&nbsp;in the stands being their biggest cheerleader. She loved being a mom. She also loved making costumes&nbsp;and dresses for the kids she much she got into crocheting. She had a gift of art, crafts, you name it, she&nbsp;could do it. 

Cindy had a bright, energetic personality and her face always told it all. She loved going with&nbsp;her cousin Sheila to the Cloud 9 Ranch. She always looked forward to spending that time with her best&nbsp;friend relaxing and getting away. She also loved animals. She recently got herself a new dachshund&nbsp;named Guss celebrating her remission. He followed her everywhere and loved helping with anything&nbsp;that showed up at her house. She touched so many lives and will truly be missed. 

Family and Friends are invited to attend services on Thursday July 20,2023 at Davis Funeral Chapel.&nbsp;Visitation is from 11 am to 1 pm and the funeral service starts at 1 pm.

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces that Marshall Marion McCowen left this world on July 14, 2023, at the tender age of 14. Born on August 17, 2008, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Marshall was adopted by and was the beloved son of his Uncle Jeffrey and Aunt Stacy McCowen and brother to Garret, Beau, Hunter, and Summer McCowen. He is also survived and adored by Barbara McCowen, Dale and Kay Evans, Janice and Ashley Evans, Jennifer Evans, Marti Evans, Beth and Mike Schueman, and many cousins.

Marshall attended Henry Leavenworth Elementary School, graduated from 8th grade at Richard Warren Middle School, and was eagerly looking forward to starting his freshman year at Leavenworth Senior High School. Marshall's magnetic personality and infectious laughter brightened every room. His wit and playful nature earned him the title of Class Clown. Marshall's genuine and caring nature touched the lives of many, and his classmates wrote letters remembering him for his kindness and humor.

Marshall was a gifted athlete, competing year-round in sports, with his greatest love being for basketball. Marshall attended KU Basketball Camp this summer and played basketball every day, between the school, the gym, outside, and on the Kraken basketball team with his best friends. Marshall proudly showed off a video of his first ‘dunk’ and spent his off time playing the videogame NBA 2K.

Marshall loved sneakers, “drip,” takis, prank videos, music, hanging out with his friends, and growing taller than his Uncle Jeff. A visitation to honor Marshall's memory will be held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday, July 21, 2023. It will be followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm. A luncheon will be held thereafter to share stories, laughter, and support during this difficult time.

Marshall's sudden departure has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. Marshall M. McCowen 2008 - 2023

Kristi Lynette Leach was born on August 12, 1972 in Falls City, Nebraska to Kenneth and Ilene (Anno) Allen.&nbsp;

In 1990 Kristi graduated from South Holt High School. That same year she married David Leach. Kristi and David made their home in Forest City, Missouri. Kristi was a homemaker.

Kristi passed away on July 16, 2023 at her home after a long battle with cancer.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth; brother, Kenneth Charles “Chuck” Allen; mother-in-law, Connie Leach; and brother-in-law, Steve Leach.

Survivors include her husband, David, of the home; mother, Ilene; daughter, Charli (Nick) Parsley of Oregon; sisters, Debbie (Ed) Brown of St. Joseph, Missouri and Marisa (Ronny) Ray of Oregon; grandchildren, Hunter, Caleb and Gracie Parsley; father-in-law, John Leach; brother-in-law Jeffrey Leach of Oregon, sisters-in-law, Elle Conrad, and Jennifer Leach and Georgi Leach, both of St. Joseph; and nieces and nephews.

Kristi enjoyed family, friends, cats, shopping, flower gardening, and cruising.

Clark Eugene Brownlee, 62, of Pleasant Valley, Missouri passed away on July 2, 2023 peacefully at home.

Clark was born in Fairfax Missouri on November 26, 1960. After graduating from Craig High School he continued on to follow his dream of a hauling freight. &nbsp;

On December 12, 2013, Clark was married to Brenda Stokes, and they spent 20 loving years together.

Clark worked as a semi-truck operator for Triple Crown, YRC, and Roadway. He later became owner/operator of Brownlee Trucking, LLC. He enjoyed adding to his collections, spending with his family and his beloved German Shepherds, and watching old Westerns.&nbsp;

Survivors include his loving wife, Brenda Stokes; mother, Virginia Conner; sons, Kyle Brownlee and Cole Brownlee; brothers, Stephen R. Brownlee and Blakely Brownlee; sister, Stephanie Price; and other family and friends.&nbsp;

Duane John Rueb, age 95, of Atchison, Kansas died Monday, July 17, 2023, at Vintage Park.

Services to celebrate Duane’s life will be&nbsp;Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at St. Joseph Church. A parish rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m., visitation with the family will follow until the Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served after the mass and interment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., where he will be laid to rest with his wife. Memorials are suggested to St. Benedict School and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom cremation care has been entrusted.&nbsp;

Duane was born November 23, 1927, to John and Viola (Walker) Rueb in his grandparents’ home in Avon, South Dakota. He lived in the Black Hills until he was thirteen; then in Los Angeles, California, until he was sixteen, when he entered the Merchant Marines in 1944. He sailed on the American Seafarer, Greenville Victory and Deaconhill Victory. He left the Merchant Marines in November 1945 after the Japanese surrender.

Duane was drafted into the United States Army on January 22, 1946, taking basic at Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he served for five months before enlisting in the Army Air Corp. He served twenty-seven years plus two months before retiring. He had a year and a half break in the service and during that time lived in Newcastle, Wyoming. He moved to Atchison, Kansas, in 1970.

During his service he was awarded the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, four Air Force Commendation Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with V for Vietnam Service. Duane retired from the US Air Force on July 31, 1974.&nbsp;

He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, TREA and AFSA and numerous other veteran organizations. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Atchison, now St. Benedict Parish, and served as an usher since 1982. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #723 and William T. Jochems General Assembly #1716 of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Duane loved his wife and family. He married Mary Isabel Miller on December 24, 1951, in Colorado Springs. They had five children: Kevin James, Kelvin John, Candyce Ann, who were born in Camp Carson, CO, and Justin Duane and Noel Alan, who were born in Wimpole Park, England. His surviving family include his children: Kelvin Rueb, Justin (Anne) Rueb, Noel (Jeannette) Rueb; three granddaughters, Jennipher (Geoff) Collins, Lindsay (Paul) Brough, Courtney (Dan) Rueb; one great granddaughter, Bella Collins; and four step-grandchildren, Lane, Lydia, Tim, Savannah; and one step-great granddaughter, Everly Anne.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; son, Kevin; daughter, Candyce; and two sisters, Gladys Washington and Arliss Berkey.

Norma was born March 24, 1925 in Norwich, Connecticut the daughter of David K. and Evelyn Marie Pooler Lyon. She attended school at Broadway Grammer School and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1942.

She and Frederick A. Auchenpaugh were united in marriage on June 3, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada. &nbsp;Mr. Auchenpaugh preceded her in death in 2004.

Norma was employed as a secretary in the quality assurance department for United Nuclear in Norwich, Connecticut for ten years.&nbsp;

Norma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atchison and was known as the “hat lady” in and around Atchison, she was an avid baker and shared her favorite homemade treats with many friends.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Don Creighton, Valparaiso, IN. and special loved ones in Atchison, Gene Ross, Atchison, KS; Tracey Elias, Atchison, KS; Peggy Scholz, Atchison, KS; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Jalalia "Joann" Owens 53, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at her home.  She was born July 14, 1970 in St. Joseph, Missouri. 

She attended Lafayette High School. She was a Homemaker. She enjoyed going to the boat, attending Hillcrest Bible Church with her grandmother, and gardening. 

Joann was preceded in death by her mother, Jeannene Rose Pontius, and husband, Ernie Owens. 

She is survived by maternal grandmother, Wilma Nadine Miller, sons, Timmy, James (Cortney), Michael Miller, and Rex Griggs (Heidi Tarwater) all of St. Joseph, MO, step sons: Jonathon Owens and Jaron Langley, six grandchildren, a brother, Ludwig (Ladonna) Halamar of St. Joseph, MO, and five nieces and a nephew. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home, memorial services following at 2:00 pm Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Cremation under the care and direction of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Rhonda Ann Sample 62 years young, King City, Missouri, earned her wings and flew to heaven meeting family and friends on Thursday, July 13, 2023. Born on May 5th, 1961, in Camp LeJeune, Jacksonville, NC. Daughter of the late Phyllis and Gary Mollus, Rhonda and her family traveled to several military bases during her youth, eventually settling back in the family hometown, St. Joseph. 

She attended Benton High School, and was awarded R.O.T.C Queen. At 16 years old, Rhonda met the love of her life, Truman Sample. They remained together until her passing. In 1981, Rhonda and Truman had a son, Ryan. In 1982, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. While in Las Vegas, Rhonda was a Keno Supervisor at Circus Circus Casino, a job she enjoyed since she loved numbers. On November 10, 1983, Rhonda wed Truman, and in 1984, they gave birth to a daughter, Sabrina. The family shared many great times in Las Vegas. Rhonda loved taking trips to Lake Mead, and man could she ski. In December of 1992, Rhonda and Truman bought a house and some land in King City, Missouri, and made that their family home. Rhonda was a hard worker. 

While in King City she worked at McCrea's Grocery, King City School, King City Post Office, had her own cleaning business, and helped Truman with their car wash and shop. Rhonda had several hobbies from music, "Boston" was her favorite band, singing karaoke, crafting, puzzles, watching "Wheel of Fortune", and Westerns with Truman, she also enjoyed "Hot Rods", and taking cruises in some of Truman's. She was also and avid "Chiefs" fan. What Rhonda enjoyed the most was spending time with her grandkids. Whether it was playing games, watching shows, or cheering them on in sports, they meant everything to their "Nanny." 

Rhonda was proceeded in death by parents, Gary and Phyllis Mollus, brother, Richard Mollus, and sister, Brenda Mollus. 

Survivors include: husband, Truman Sample, of the home, daughter, Sabrina Parker (Robin), son, Ryan Sample, both of King City, step daughter, Jennifer Nolan of St. Joseph, six grandchildren, Tenley and Taylen, Ryder, Hudsyn, and Jagger, all of King City, and Alyssa Hinkle of St. Joseph. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Mollus, of King City.

 A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

William "Bill" Simpson 73, of St Joseph, MO, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023 at his home. He was born October 15, 1949 in Mercer County, MO, son of Betty and John Simpson. 

He graduated from Chillicothe High School, class of 1968, and from UMKC with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting. Bill married Susan Storms on December 31, 1996 St. Joseph. He served in the Army, and he is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Bill worked as a CPA in the St. Joseph area for over 40 years. His hobbies included hunting and traveling. He was a former member of AICPA and NSA. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Nancy O'Rear and Telpha Heuman. 

Survivors include: his wife, Susan Simpson of the home, children, Becky (Kori) Martin of Raymore, MO, Michael Simpson of Kansas City, MO, and Meaghan Simpson of St. Joseph, step-children, Steve (Cathy) Peterman of St. Joseph, Michelle Peterman of St. Joseph, Jerry (Dina) Bascue of Gower, MO, and Tammy Bascue of St. Joseph, brothers, Benny, Randy, and Alan Simpson, and a sister, Nila Horne, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

William Glen Simpson 1949 - 2023

Mark Douglas Chinski Sr. entered into eternal rest on July 15, 2023 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born&nbsp;on November 27, 1958 in Joliet, Illinois to his parents Steven Douglas and Betty (Stogsdill) Chinski and&nbsp;grew up in Braidwood, Illinois.

Among many accomplishments, Mark served 7 years in the US Army, earned his Bachelor’s degree from&nbsp;the University of Illinois Chicago, and was a published author. His adventurous spirit enabled him to&nbsp;embark on several career paths that included soldier, laboratory technician, software code writer and&nbsp; truck driver.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Mark loved the great outdoors and regularly went camping and fishing. His hobbies included coin collecting, woodworking, and all things tech related. His greatest joy was sharing his&nbsp;knowledge of the Bible. When Mark was 17 years old, he had a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ&nbsp;sparking his lifelong passion for the Word of God and Bible doctrine.

Mark is survived by his sons Mark Chinski jr. and David Chinski, his mother Betty (Stogsdill) Wood, his&nbsp;stepmother Jan Chinski, his brother Steve A. Chinski, his sisters Michele Ball, Erica Myscofski, and Erin&nbsp;Callaway, his brothers- in- law Joe Myscofski and Jack Callaway, and his ex-wife Jessica Chinski.

Mark is now reunited with his father Steven Chinski, his stepfather Melbert Landers, his brother-in-law&nbsp;Densel Ball II, his paternal grandparents Matthew and Madeline Chinski, and his maternal grandparents&nbsp;Albert and Bertha Stogsdill.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Riverside Baptist Church in St. Joseph,&nbsp;Missouri. Immediately following the funeral Mark will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery&nbsp;in Leavenworth, Kansas. &nbsp;Arrangements under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

When Mark was 17 years old, he had a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ&nbsp;sparking his lifelong passion for the Word of God and Bible doctrine.Mark is survived by his sons Mark Chinski jr. and David Chinski, his mother Betty (Stogsdill) Wood, his&nbsp;stepmother Jan Chinski, his brother Steve A. Chinski, his sisters Michele Ball, Erica Myscofski, and Erin&nbsp;Callaway, his brothers- in- law Joe Myscofski and Jack Callaway, and his ex-wife Jessica Chinski.Mark is now reunited with his father Steven Chinski, his stepfather Melbert Landers, his brother-in-law&nbsp;Densel Ball II, his paternal grandparents Matthew and Madeline Chinski, and his maternal grandparents&nbsp;Albert and Bertha Stogsdill.A funeral service will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Riverside Baptist Church in St. Joseph,&nbsp;Missouri. Immediately following the funeral Mark will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery&nbsp;in Leavenworth, Kansas. &nbsp;Arrangements under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Stephen McVey, 67, of Grovespring, MO passed away July 13, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father Myrtle and Frank McVey. He is also preceded in death by two brothers Patrick and Frank.

He is survived by his love, Lois Payne. Also, by his daughter Shari, and six siblings, Debbie, Kathy (Bruce), Mary, Paul (Michelle), Bill (Barb), and Janet (Mark).

Steve loved his family… He really enjoyed gardening, making home improvements, and fishing. A private family gathering will be held in the near future.

Stephen McVey 1956 - 2023

Gary Lee Lewis, 81, passed away on July 15, 2023, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born on January 31, 1942, in Stanberry, Missouri, to Garold and Elma (Beard) Lewis.

Gary was a proud graduate of Lafayette High School, class of 1960. His sense of duty and patriotism led him to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned a Vietnam service medal for his bravery and dedication. After his military service, Gary embarked on a successful career as a truck driver for Hillyard, where he worked for 25 years until his retirement.

Gary was an avid bowler and fisherman. He was a loyal fan of Nascar and enjoyed watching the races. His retirement years were filled with joyous road trips and breakfast gatherings with his "trucking buddies". He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments.

Gary was a man of courage, having faced the challenges of life and war with unwavering strength. His loving nature was evident in his devotion to his family and his kindness towards others. His laughter and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Amy Seek, and brothers-in-law, Danny McCue and Milt Berger.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen; their daughters, Natalie Sisk and Yvette “Fred” Snapp; his sister, Sharon Berger; his cherished grandchildren, Kelsee Seek, Shelby (Adam) Fletchall, Kylynn Sisk, Samantha (Donnie) Bowlin, Cole Snapp, and Karlee Seek. Gary was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, and he leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to the staff at Freudenthal Hospice and Living Community for the compassionate care during Gary’s final days.

She was born on February 10, 1924, in Fayette, Missouri to Everett and Wilma (Rich) Slagle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Ralph Dougherty, Sr.

Survivors include her sons, Curt, Doug and Scott, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and lifelong friends, Steve and Pat Carson.

Helen Kay Rudder Hasenohr, age 71, of Hiawatha, Kan., passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 – surrounded by her family – after a short battle with cancer.

She went by Kay – or Katie occasionally from her parents and siblings – was born Aug. 2, 1951 to James Clifford Rudder, Jr. and Lois Aldine Harvey Rudder. She was the middle child out of three girls and earned the distinction of being the first brown-eyed baby born at Hiawatha Community Hospital, which had just opened in May.&nbsp;

She skipped fourth grade as the schoolhouse closed and she and one other student were transferred to Reserve for fifth grade. She graduated with the 1968 Class of Hiawatha High School.Kay married James Ellis and the couple had a daughter, Joey, born in 1971. They later divorced. She married Larry Hasenohr and the couple had a son, Liberty Beau, born in 1977. Their family lived in Hiawatha and then Baker for a short time before moving to Winfield then Arkansas City for Larry to attend drafting school. Following his schooling, the family relocated to Emporia for 2 years and then a farm at Admire. Larry and Kay later divorced and she returned to Hiawatha to help care for her ailing father until his death in 1998, then continued to live with her mother at their Padonia homestead until they moved into Hiawatha in 2010. Her mother passed in 2016 and Kay continued to live in her Hiawatha home with her many pets.Kay worked a variety of jobs during her life. She was employed several different times at the Hiawatha Daily World over a span of 50 years. At the newspaper she worked in typesetting, paste-up, served as Lifestyles editor and was a reporter and photographer. Kay even created her own newspaper “The Guardian,” where she wrote about local news and included editorials - distributing locally for about a year. Kay also spent 13 years as a dispatcher at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, before retiring at age 63. Kay came out of retirement to work one last time at the Hiawatha World as a part-time front office administrator until she finally retired a couple years later to stay at home with her “doggies.”Kay was a huge animal lover and never had a moment where she didn’t have a dog, a cat – or several of each. She spent many years working at and volunteering with the Brown County Humane Society and also fostered and adopted several dogs. At one point she was caring for 15 foster dogs in a series of pens she had put up herself at Padonia, while she helped the Humane Society work to find them homes.Among Kay’s hobbies and great loves were fishing and hunting with her Daddy as a youngster, her “critters” as she called her dogs and cats, mellow classic rock and blues music, watching true crime shows, writing and woodworking along with other arts and crafts. She spent hours upon hours woodburning and creating beautiful artwork for her family and for gifts over the years. Above all else, Kay’s family mattered most to her and she never left a conversation without saying “I love you!”Kay is survived by a daughter Joey May (Jeff) and son Beau Hasenohr (Kimberly) – both of Hiawatha; two sisters – Lois Arnold and Janet Clearwater (Scott) – both of Topeka; grandchildren Joshua May (Lindsey), Josey May, Austin Hasenohr, Arillyn Kimmi, Aizlynn Kimmi, Ashlynn Hasenohr and Leighton Hasenohr; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Bobby Arnold.Kay was cremated, but friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday &amp; Friday, July 20, 21 to sign register book.A family visitation will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday with services at 3 p.m. at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124, S. 7th, Hiawatha, KS. &nbsp; Inurnment will follow be at Oakland Cemetery, Padonia, Kan.<figure>
