Sarah Jean “Sally” Rains, 80, of Atchison KS died on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at her home surround by family.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, at the First Baptist Church. Cremation services were entrusted to the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home where memorial contributions to Amberwell Hospice may be sent. She graduated from Atchison High School in 1961. She earned her degree in nursing from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1963. Sarah worked as a Labor/Delivery nurse, nurse manager and a house supervisor during her 38 years of nursing at the Atchison Hospital. She was a former member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, antiques, and spending time with children, grandchildren and especially her cat ‘Smoke”.

She was married to Robert R.” Bob” Rains on August 27, 1965. Bob survives at home. 

Additional survivors include a son, David Kirk (Amanda) Rains, Coffeyville, KS, three daughters; Tracey Lynn (Thomas) Funk, Nortonville, KS, Stacey Elizabeth Beckett, Arkansas City, KS, and Kara Suzanne (Cole) Custer, Atchison, KS., nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Also are included are her precious great grandchildren Karionna Allen, Jacob Allen, Randall Allen, Robert Allen, Aaliyah Thomas, Jesse Roehl, Brandon Gonzalez, Andrew Gonzalez, Kathryn Gonzalez and Godson Oliver Bignelli, her brother Perry. Ann Etta Perkins (Underwood) 1941 - 2023

Donald F. Bennett Jr., 71, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his home. He was born May 5, 1952 in St. Joseph, son of Mildred and Donald Bennett. 

He attended Savannah High School. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army. Don married Linda Jagodzinski on April 25, 1986 in St. Joseph. He worked at Citadel Health Care for 18 years and Crossroads Correctional Center for 20 years, retiring in June 2014 as Maintenance Supervisor. Don enjoyed fishing and playing cards, he especially loved his family and he adored his daughters. He will best be remembered for his home brewed tea. 

Preceding him in death are his parents, Donald Sr. and Mildred McKeel, his siblings Mikel Bennett and Sherry Fanning. 

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bennett of the home, children, Stacy (Chris) Safley, Amanda Bennett (Cody), Jessica Bennett, Donald Bennett III and Carrie (Jay) Colley, brother, John (Terri) Clemmons, all of St. Joseph, 4 grandchildren, Kaylee, Rhyen, Nova, and Holland, several nieces and nephews, his Chihuahua, Boobie. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Skip Crisp, officiating. The Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home.

Larry C. Browning, 78, of St. Joseph, passed away on October 5, 2023. Larry was born on January 15, 1945 in Fairfax, MO, to Francis Cameron and Elsie Browning.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an avid collector of antiques, guns, and military memorabilia. Photos of his collection were included in the book "Collection of the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich Volume I ".

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his sisters Sharon Womach, who was his caregiver for 27 years, and Rita Feller and husband Dan of Lee Summit, MO; nephews, Brian McCarty, Eric McCarty, Todd Vandenberg, and Shawn Vandenberg.

Special thanks to AseraCare Hospice team and the staff of the Oregon Care Center. They went above and beyond in the care they provided to Larry.

Graveside services with military honors will be Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Fairfax, MO.

Tricia Dierenfeldt, 76, of King City, MO joined Jesus and other loved ones in heaven on&nbsp;October 4, 2023 surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren at her home in King City, Missouri.

John 21:17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” Patricia (Tricia) Anne Dierenfeldt, Red bird lover, angel food cake baker, vacation bible school and camping enthusiast, baby whisperer, hop-in the-car adventurer, everyone’s number one cheerleader, humongous grocery list writer, universal caretaker, dreamer, beach bum, attentive listener, birthday party planner, backward driver, endless picture taker, best-hug-giver, devoted and sassy wife to Bill Dierenfeldt, official mother to 8 (and unofficial mother to so many more), adoring grandmother and great grandmother to 48, sister, friend, babysitter, church member, sheep feeder.&nbsp; Jesus instructed Peter, and we can assume he wants us to feed His sheep or care for His people. Trisha’s life thoroughly exemplified this charge. She loved people deeply, family, friends, and strangers alike. Tricia was born on&nbsp;February 11, 1943 in Whitesville, Missouri to Dorothy and Donald Schottel. Tricia was the first born of 4 children in her family and she embraced her role as big sister by caring for her siblings. She graduated from King City High School and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Bill Dierenfeldt. Bill and Tricia were united in marriage on&nbsp;June 19, 1965 and there began their expansive and rich family legacy.&nbsp;

As Bill says, Tricia was, “made to be a mother.” She loved each of her 8 children fiercely and was immensely proud of their accomplishments and their families. Bill and Tricia moved their growing family back and forth between King City and Kansas City over the years, and life in the Dierenfeldt family was not lacking adventure. They enjoyed packing up all the kids and the dog in the station wagon and embarking on multiple month-long cross country ventures to California and stopping at every site seeing location along the way, taking no less than 20 photos at each stop. Tricia was a generous and gifted host and was known to invite anyone and everyone to her home for a card party or a meal on a random&nbsp;Tuesday&nbsp;or for Thanksgiving Dinner. Nobody has ever known who might show up to a Dierenfeldt celebration and nobody has ever left Tricia’s home hungry or without a plate of leftovers. Her and Bill were always active in their community and in their church. Tricia enjoyed teaching&nbsp;Sunday&nbsp;school classes and vacation bible school classes and was known to invite and pick up community kids who didn’t have a way to get to church. She was a top salesperson for Home Interiors and won several awards with the company including a trip to Hawaii. She was the manager for the family business called, “The Mark-It” T-shirt shop until Bill threatened to fire her for generously giving away the merchandise for free, and she owned a childcare business called, “Tricia’s Luv’n Care” where she loved her “kids” like her own and kept up with them throughout her life. Loving, feeding, and caring for her and Bill’s rambunctious crew of 8 (plus many more) was one of Tricia’s greatest passions.&nbsp;

Tricia became a grandmother, “Grandma Trishy,” in 1986 and embraced the role enthusiastically. Her gift for nurturing children and her knack for creating everyday adventure united to the delight of her grandkids. Grandma Trishy could be counted on to attend her grandkids’ births, baptisms, sporting events, all other curricular and extracurricular showcases, grandparents days, birthday parties, cousin hangouts, and really any special event that she was invited to. She was thrilled to bring the grandkids along to help throw birthday parties at the King City Manner or to spend an afternoon picnicking and swimming in the river. She loved listening to her grandchildren sing and requested they sing her favorite songs a cappella while standing on any stage or picnic table she came across. She sang her grandkids silly songs as she drove quickly over the hills that ticketed their stomachs and she requested they make “happy plates” at every meal. She shared gospel stories and prayers with her grandchildren and encouraged them in their faith, feeding them, like she fed everyone, both physically and spiritually.&nbsp;

Tricia noticed things that others didn’t notice and she attended to detail. She blessed others anonymously and without recognition. She left care packages for families in need by their front doors, delivered angel food cakes for every celebration, provided driving lessons to ladies who had never driven,&nbsp;sat&nbsp;with a dying stranger for weeks so that he wasn’t lonely, provided parenting lessons to moms in need, and cooked breakfast for everyone staying at the Ronald McDonald House. She truly listened and cared about the details in others’ lives. She knew which hospital room each of the grandkids were born in, her loved ones’ birthdays, and all her grandkids’ best friends’ names. She stayed up all night cooking and preparing on the eve of all major holidays to ensure that every detail was to her standard to ensure a joy-filled celebration.

She worked hard and earned the nickname of, “Wonder Woman” both for resembling Wonder Woman and for accomplishing more than any single person should be able to accomplish.

Tricia reflected God’s love to others in a powerful and tangible way. God’s love reached so many through her, and her legacy will live on through those she loved. Tricia’s legacy will carry on when we leave a place better than we found it, when we encourage a friend with a handwritten card, when we invite someone to church or to a holiday celebration, when we provide a meal to someone in need, when we sing worship songs, when we leave a sweet voicemail, when we host joyful gatherings, when we support those who grieve, when we listen to someone who feels unheard, when we celebrate others, when we visit someone in the hospital, when we love on all of God’s children, when we cook enough food to send guests home with leftovers, and when we strive to remember the details in others’ lives. Her love and care for others was one-of-a-kind, otherworldly, and was surpassed only by the love she is now experiencing, the untainted love in heaven. Let us honor her life by living as she did, by loving others without boundaries, by obeying Jesus’ instruction, as Tricia did, to feed His sheep.

Tricia was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Michael and Donald Schottel and her grandparents, Ruth and John Schottel and Florence and Howard Michael. She is survived by her 8 children, Kristi and John Lisenbee, Chellie Gilbert and Dave Simpson, Travis and Gina Dierenfeldt, Tiffany and Doug Ellis, Cara Erisman, Dustin and Maria Dierenfeldt, Michael and Melissa Dierenfeldt, and Brent and Marina Dierenfeldt and her 48 grandchildren and great grandchildren. ~We love you more.~

Helen K Duncan, age 74 of Hiawatha, KS passed away peacefully at her home with her granddaughter Olivia at her bedside, Tuesday, October 3rd. Helen was born October 22, 1948, to the union of Edith and Stanley Duncan. She was named after her father’s sister. She grew up and attended school in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Helen was no stranger to hard work. Throughout her lifetime she worked as a respiratory therapist assistant, nanny, flag person on the highway, factory worker, nurse’s aide, and a caregiver outside as well as inside the home. For many years Helen helped her mother in caring for her grandparents and uncle (Ross and Pearl Gamble and the son Pete). She later became the primary caregiver for her mother. Helen loved shopping at Old Navy, Bath &amp; Body Works, thrift stores, taking long walks and she loved to do home improvement projects and yard work.&nbsp;

As a young girl she would attend church with her mother at the Church of God and Christ and the AME Methodist Church. Later in life she would attend Second Baptist Church a block from her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edith and Stanley Duncan, brothers Delmar and Stanley Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son Tyron L Duncan of Hiawatha, KS, one daughter Tammy (Brian) Gibbs of Fort Bragg, NC, two granddaughters Olivia Duncan of Blue Springs, MO, &nbsp;Tamrian Gibbs of Fort Bragg, NC, grandson, Brian Gibbs Jr. of Fort Bragg, NC, three great granddaughters Milani and Gianna Stapleton both of Blue Springs, MO and Brilee Gandy of Fort Bragg, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Paul Klein, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri; passed away September 30, 2023, with his devoted wife by his side.

Paul was born on July 7, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Neil and Doris (Gouvin) Klein. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, and was raised of the Catholic faith. Paul was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School Class of 1967.

Mr. Klein served his country in the Missouri Air National Guard for seven years.

Paul followed in his father's footsteps, who started Klein Motors in St. Joseph in 1946. He started working on the lot in grade school and would later become owner and operator of Klein Motors until his passing. Paul loved any and everything to do with cars, and the faster the better. He had a passion for sprint car racing at the Savannah Speedway, was an avid NASCAR fan and was a former member of the Corvette Club.

Paul had an infectious personality and was always the life of any party. &nbsp;He will be missed by his family and friends.&nbsp;

Paul married Gracie Huffman on July 6, 1977 in Miami, Oklahoma. To that union, they had a daughter, Carla, who worked alongside her mother and father until her passing in 2011.

Paul is survived by his wife, Gracie, Gemma and countless friends.

A Private Family Graveside Service was held. &nbsp;

Paul Klein 1949 - 2023

Gerald L. “Jerry” Conley, 70, of Havensville, passed away from an accident with a bull on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 near Westmoreland.

He was born October 10, 1952 in Seneca, the son of Ivan and Marie Heinen Conley. Growing up, he worked on the family dairy. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1970. &nbsp;Jerry served in the U.S. Navy as a helicopter mechanic, stationed mostly in Norfolk, VA.

Jerry owned and operated a Grade A Dairy for about twenty years. He then worked for R Tech Tool &amp; Machine in Wamego, retiring in the fall of 2020.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga, the Mid America Dairy Farmer’s Association and the Havensville Volunteer Fire Department.

Jerry married Marcia Sumner on June 23, 1973 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She survives, of the home.

Jerry was a very family-oriented man who loved his children and grandchildren devotedly. As a man with incredible work ethic, the hay field and milk barn were places of both learning and socializing with friends and family. When not on the farm, Jerry could often be found cheering his grandkids on at all their events. He also loved trips with Marcia several times a year to Branson, MO and Estes Park, CO.

He and Marcia were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this summer with all their kids and grandkids at Mahoney State Park in NE. Jerry and Marcia’s marriage was a beautiful example of love and devotion to all who knew them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold Conley, who died in infancy, and a sister, Lori Ann Conley, who died in childhood.

Other survivors include three sons, Jason Conley (Jada) of Centralia, Jerod Conley (Dara) and Jeremy Conley (Laura) of Havensville; a daughter, Jami Berges (Daniel) of Frankfort; three brothers, Alan Conley of Seneca, Howard Conley (Debra) of Omaha, NE and Neil Conley (Janet) of Wichita; three sisters, Margie Feldkamp (Bob), Dorothy Henry (Kenny) and Lola Hower (Randy), all of Topeka; and twelve grandchildren, Jenri, Jude, Camden, Adalei, Liam, Claire, Cora, Calvin, Nellie, Caralynn, Ivan and Owen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 11th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Onaga. Burial with military honors will follow in the Havensville Cemetery. Jerry will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a Rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rodney Boyer, who left this life on October 5, 2023, after more than a year of battling esophageal cancer. 

He died in the house he built with his own hands, surrounded by the people he loved the most, and who loved him.

Rodney was born on September 16, 1959, and was a lifetime resident of Platte City, Missouri. He was married and faithfully devoted to the love of his life, and wife of 44 years, Karri (Humes) Boyer. Rodney and Karri have two kids, Ryan (wife: Becky Modin) Boyer of Eureka, MO, and Staci (husband: Danny) Crockett of Kansas City, MO. 

He has six grandkids: Luke, Lily and Oliva Boyer and Kim, James and Mason Crockett. More than anything else, Rodney loved his family. He could always be found wherever they were supporting them, cheering them on and helping them at whatever they did.

Rodney joined Carpenters Local 61 when he was 18 years old, and he retired in December 2009 after 32 years. After a short (and pointless) attempt at retirement, he got a CDL and worked with some of his best friends, Kevin and Matt Humes (brother-in-law / nephew), delivering scaffolding and visiting with friends. Matt said, “Rodney does the work of about three people, and wouldn’t have it any other way. He is pretty much everyone at our work’s favorite person.” Kevin said, “To me, Rodney is my brother.” Nobody worked harder than Rodney.

In 2012, Rodney and Karri got their first of many Harleys. They enjoyed ten years of riding locally with friends and traveling the country together. In all, they rode to 27 states and Canada. Rodney’s favorite place to ride was from Ouray to Durango in Colorado.

Rodney loved his pets. In the late 90s the ugliest dog you’ve ever seen showed up in the back yard in terrible shape. Rodney absolutely loved that dog, and Buster returned that love. This is a clear picture of Rodney: he accepted and loved everyone just as they are. He was kind (unless you slowed him down at work) and would do anything for anyone. Even at the end, he never got mad and did not want to inconvenience others who cared for him. He was the calming factor and his motto was, “Everything’s gonna work out.” This world was a better place with him in it. Rodney will be greatly missed by all.

Rodney did not want any formal services, and his family will honor that wish. Rodney’s family thanks you all for your love and support over the last year.

Rodney Scott Boyer 1959 - 2023

Mary Ellen Kujawa, 85, of St. Joseph, MO, died at her home October 4, 2023. &nbsp;She was born September 23, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Gertrude (Brown) and Noel Pilgreen. 

She was raised in Appleton, Wisconsin along with her brothers, Gary and Glen. Graduating from Marquette University in 1960, where she met her future husband, Gerald (Jerry) Kujawa. They wed on January 5, 1963, and welcomed their only child, Karen, the following year. Mary Ellen enjoyed travelling, having lived in 8 states. Wherever she lived, she was always active in her church and community. She managed 2 soup kitchens in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was involved with the Red Cross, and managed the food bank in Anthony, Kansas. Throughout her 85 years, family was always at the center of her life. 

She is predeceased by her husband, mother and father, and brother Gary. 

Surviving are her daughter Karen (Howard) Klino, grandchildren, Brandon Klino, Ashlyn (Kevin) Ploth, with great-granddaughters, Kimber and Kinsly Horse, Dylan Klino, PFC Ethan Klino, US Army, Justin Klino, and many nieces and nephews. 

Ms. Kujawa has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph.

Paula Senn walked towards the Light of Jesus Christ on Wednesday October 4, 2023 at the age of (57) after an arduous battle with lung cancer. She left this World for Heaven at home surrounded by her family.

Born Paula LeeAnn Dunn on June 30, 1966 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Jerry and Barbara (Montegna) Dunn, she grew up and graduated high school in Rockford, Illinois, where the family had relocated. She married and became the Mother of two daughters, Jessica and Jennifer Oliver. She later relocated her family to Kansas where she met and married Robert Senn. Together they owned and operated a successful painting business. &nbsp;Paula loved fishing, gardening, and mushroom hunting, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. 

Her girls had blessed her with five grandchildren; Shelby, Claire, Kimber, Ellie, and Herschel. She was the typical spoiling grandma. She was happy, funny and witty. At family gatherings, even strangers felt welcome, and would join in the laughter from her dry humor and observations by the end of the evening.

She is preceded in death by her parents, all her grandparents, and all her aunts and uncles. 

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home, her daughters, and of course, her beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her two older brothers, Matthew (Laurel) Dunn, Christopher (Lynette) Dunn, and two younger sisters, Sarah (Tom) Hillhouse and Molly (Shea) Metcalf. &nbsp;She also has so many nieces and nephews to even begin to list, but they all loved Aunt Paula and will miss her terribly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Rupp Funeral Home.

Lawrence H. Pinion, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023.

He was born November 30, 1940 to Fielden and Lettie (Christian) Pinion in Stewartsville, Missouri.

He married Helen Russell on July 14, 1973 and they were married for 49 years when she passed.

Lawrence enjoyed football, bowling, drawing, gambling, and westerns.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and parents; grandchild, Natasha; siblings, Phillip Cannon, Connie (Kay) Miller, Harmon, Lonnie, Bonnie, and Marvin Pinion.

She was born August 2, 1931 at Valley Falls, the daughter of Charles and Fannie Gutzman Heller. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1948.

JoAnne (Jody) Bruggen, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on Sat. Aug. 26th, 2023, at her home in Kansas City, MO, surrounded by family.

Jody was born on July 12, 1929, in Rochelle, IL, the daughter of Lloyd A. and Margaret (Shear) Koritz. She graduated Salutatorian from Rochelle Township High School, Rochelle IL. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development and Family Relations. Jody worked as Director/Teacher of the Atchison YMCA Preschool and the Neenah, WI YMCA Preschool. She was President of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was a member of the Panhellenic Council. 

She was elected to the Sigma Chi Sweetheart Court. Jody enjoyed sports in her youth and swam competitively. Mrs. Bruggen was a past President, Vice President, Secretary and Director of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, a past Vice President and Secretary of the Atchison Library Board of Trustees, a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Bellevue Country Club, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Kansas and traveled to the United Kingdom to participate in their founders’ activities. She served as Secretary for the Atchison Art Association, publicity chairman for the Riverbend Art Fair, Chairman for the National Endowment for Performing Arts 3rd Grade Art Pilot Project, Board member of the Atchison Community Theatre, Publicity Chairman for the United Way Drive &amp; Hospital Auxiliary Follies. 

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church where she served as a former Sunday School Teacher and on the Altar Guild, Flower Ministry, and member of the St. Martha’s Guild. Jody was a loving wife, mother, and doting grandmother. She had a terrific sense of humor. She made us and all who cared for her laugh and had a way of making life feel lighter even up until the end. However, her life’s most enduring legacy is the incomparable and ceaseless love she gave her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From her warm hugs to the delicious meals and desserts she prepared, she nourished her family in countless ways. No accomplishment by her children or grandchildren was too small to celebrate. 

To her family’s irritation at times, she endlessly documented her loves ones’ lives and times spent together with photographs and scrapbooks that will be a treasured testament to the deep love she gave. Jody was a super nurturer who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a voracious reader, supporter of many charities, genealogist researcher, avid KU fan, and lover of life. She enjoyed family vacations spent in Cabo San Lucas, Baja and the family lake home in Park Rapids, MN. When we think of Jody, we like to picture her here with a good book, laying out and enjoying the sun, on a perfect blue-sky day. 

Jody was married to her college sweetheart, Richard J. “Dick” Bruggen on June 30, 1951, in Rochelle, IL. Mr. Bruggen preceded her in death on June 30, 2007. 

She is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Jack) Ferguson, Lee’s Summit, MO, and Margaret “Meg” (William) Zahner, Kansas City, MO, and son Dr. Joel T. Roy Leslie Beers 73, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023 in a St. Joseph, MO hospital. He was born September 20, 1950 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Gladys and Harold Beers. 

He married Opal "Candy" Martinez on March 16, 1970 and she survives of the home. Roy served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm, retiring as a Sergeant 1st class after 22 years of service. He was very proud of his military service. He later worked at Nestle Purina and retired from there after 25 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecuing and loved the 4th of July, riding motorcycles, he also loved animals and helping people. 

Roy was preceded in death by parents, and a sister, Alberta Benton. 

Survivors include wife, Opal "Candy" Beers of the home, daughters, Misty (Andre) Long, Leslie (Danny) Parker, and Brianne (Reed) Steele of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Brandon (Michelle), Zachary (Brie), Ethan, Jacob, Jaxton, Rowan, and Emery, great grandsons, Theo &amp; Beckham and his twin sister, Joy (Dalton) Hodge.

Ray Gene Krumme, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at a Columbia, Missouri, hospital.

He was born May 5, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri to John and Lois (Dittemore) Krumme.

Ray married Mary Etta McCord on June 24, 1953. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2010.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion.

After the military, he returned to St. Joseph where he worked for numerous contractors in St. Joseph before starting Ray Krumme Construction in 1975. He worked till age 77 – well past retirement age – before his sons took over the business. More than a carpenter he was a craftsman, making custom homes built to last.

Ray was a 4-H Leader and had served nine years on the Faucett R5 School Board.

After starting out at Dunkin Donuts for morning coffee with friends, Ray and his group moved over to the Golden Arches Club, where he was president.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Etta; his parents; a great-grandson; and a sister, Gary Lou Culp.

Survivors include his children, Kathy Jobes (Sonny), Lanny Krumme (Debbie), Marlene Pierce (Mark), and Marlin Krumme (Tammie); grandchildren, Scottie, Cody, Levi, Cassie, Remington, Lance, Curtis, Baxter, Briley and Bayten; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Krumme (Libbie); numerous other extended family members and friends.

He had a contagious smile and eyes that would look into your soul. After three months of spreading God’s love without saying a word, Reed danced into Jesus’ arms hearing, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”&nbsp;

He passed away at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio on September 28, 2023, surrounded by his family.&nbsp;

She taught 6th grade for 13 years at West Platte before she opened her own school in her retirement.

Lennie is survived by her husband Clay Bauske (Weston), her mother Margaret Medcalf (Portsmouth, VA), her sisters Julie Bystrom (Chesapeake, VA) and Janet Gay Medcalf (Seattle, WA), and her brother Van Medcalf (San Diego, CA).

Lenora June Medcalf-Bauske passed away on Saturday, September 30th following a long illness. She requested that there be no services and no obituary. So this is simply a death notice to make people aware of her passing.Her parents were John Robert Medcalf and Margaret Guthrie Medcalf. Over her life she worked for the Missouri Division of Youth Services, the Faultless Starch company, and the West Platte R-II School District. Lenora June 'Lennie' Medcalf-Bauske (Medcalf) 1948 - 2023

Dorothy L. Collier (Tuck) 91, of Robinson, KS formerly of St. Joseph, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 30, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Dorothy was born March 13, 1932 to Paul and Mary Gertrude (Degan) Tuck. Dorothy graduated from Sacred Heart Convent, class of 1949. In 1951 she married Clifford Jennings and they had 5 children, Dorothy and Clifford later divorced. In 1980, Dorothy married Donald J. Collier and they lived in Chicago, IL for several years. During that time, Dorothy became a Chicago Cubs fan and if she wasn’t visiting Wrigley Field she would watch her “Cubbies” on television. They moved back to St. Joseph, MO and were members of St. Joseph Cathedral. Dorothy worked many years at Jim’s Place and Beaty BBQ in St. Joseph. &nbsp;After Don’s death, several years later she moved to Robinson, KS with her beloved significant other, Robert (Bob) VanEpps. While living in Robinson she was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Hiawatha.

Along with the love for her family she enjoyed spending time doing crossword puzzles, word seeks and watching Westerns. Family members never celebrated a birthday without a card from her, no matter where they had moved to. &nbsp;Family gatherings always included her amazing potato salad, which she always made plenty for everyone to enjoy after the gathering. Her grandchildren would say she made the best Pineapple Up-Side Down cake on the planet. She spent many years hosting sleepovers with her grandchildren and always teaching them proper etiquette. Dorothy was a collector of purses and sandals and she loved to have her nails polished nicely. When she was asked about the type of purse she liked, she would always say, the bigger the better. Her grandkids would joke that grandma was carrying around a suitcase when she would walk in with her purse.

Preceding her in death was her son David P. Jennings, Grandson Brian P. Jennings, Granddaughter Amanda (Jennings)Knowlton, Great- Grandson Dacobi K.R. Hughes, brother Bernard J. Tuck, and husbands. Preceding her in death also, her beloved significant other of ten years, Robert (Bob) Van Epps, March 11th, 2017.

Dorothy is survived by Son Micheal (Connie) Jennings, Goodyear, AZ. &nbsp;Daughters Dorothy E. (Garry) Cox, St. Joseph, Mo, Cathy (Murray) Griswold, Robinson, KS and Shirley (Kevin) Cassity, Rushville, MO. She is also survived by Nineteen Grandchildren, Thirty-six Great-Grandchildren, ten Great-Great Grandchildren, Sister, Evelyn James, 8 Nieces and 3 Nephews. Also Surviving Bob and Dorothy are sons Bruce VanEpps of Hiawatha, KS, Ron (Cindy) VanEpps of Hays, KS, and daughter Linda (Randy) Roberts of Savannah, MO and their children.
