Ray Gene Krumme, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at a Columbia, Missouri, hospital.
He was born May 5, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri to John and Lois (Dittemore) Krumme.
Ray married Mary Etta McCord on June 24, 1953. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2010.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion.
After the military, he returned to St. Joseph where he worked for numerous contractors in St. Joseph before starting Ray Krumme Construction in 1975. He worked till age 77 – well past retirement age – before his sons took over the business. More than a carpenter he was a craftsman, making custom homes built to last.
Ray was a 4-H Leader and had served nine years on the Faucett R5 School Board.
After starting out at Dunkin Donuts for morning coffee with friends, Ray and his group moved over to the Golden Arches Club, where he was president.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Etta; his parents; a great-grandson; and a sister, Gary Lou Culp.
Survivors include his children, Kathy Jobes (Sonny), Lanny Krumme (Debbie), Marlene Pierce (Mark), and Marlin Krumme (Tammie); grandchildren, Scottie, Cody, Levi, Cassie, Remington, Lance, Curtis, Baxter, Briley and Bayten; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Krumme (Libbie); numerous other extended family members and friends.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
