It is with mixed emotions of sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Jesse Martinez Lopez, Sr. on September 28, 2023. Sadness, in that he will be missed by his loving wife and children, but joy because he is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on April 17, 1939, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Jesse lived a life full of service, love, and dedication to his family and community.

He was a proud member of the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and distinction. After his military service, Jesse joined the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 32 years before retiring in 1996. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and a past member of the CIP Committee of St. Joseph, Little United Nations, and Mexican Fiesta.

Jesse was a passionate supporter of Missouri Western athletics, particularly women's basketball. His love for sports was not limited to being a spectator. He took great pleasure in supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events, cheering them on from the sidelines with pride and enthusiasm.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gertrude. Their marriage, which began on February 3, 1962, was a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Jesse is also survived by his children, Dr. Jesse Lopez II (Stormyee), Maria Burnham (Scott), Dominic Lopez, and Veronica Hupp (Jim). He was a proud grandfather to Rachel Ard (Kenny), Jesse Lopez III, Ricardo Lopez (Ty), Abigail Lopez, Josiah Lopez, Cooper Lopez, Austin Hanis, Scottie Burnham (Shaylynn), Tyler Burnham (Darby), Ashlee Hendrix (Mark), Elijah Mejia, and Christian Mejia. Jesse was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

Natural Farewell under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
