LG Stevenson 1933 - 2023

LG Stevenson, born September 2, 1933 in a log cabin in rural Morgan County, Missouri passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.

The son of Bertha and Clarence Stevenson, LG graduated from Benton High School, class of 1951. Following graduation, he worked for Swift & Company, marrying Geraldine Marie Brown on August 15, 1953 in St. Joseph; he was drafted into the US Army where he served during the Korean War from 1953-1955. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, LG worked at Swift & Company in the Sliced Bacon Department for another 11 years, leaving in 1966 to work for Insurance Services Office as a Field Rating Representative, where he retired after 30 years. Alongside his wife, Geraldine, he owned and operated Stevenson Tax Service for over 45 years. LG proudly built two homes, in which he raised his family. He was a man of faith. He was raised in the Lake Ave. Missionary Baptist Church, where he was saved in 1964. At the Church, he served as a Deacon and as a Trustee.

LG was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Russell Stevenson, Claude Stevenson and Floyd Stevenson. All four of these brothers (including LG) were considered surrogate parents by their respective nieces and nephews and will never be forgotten.

Survivors include wife of 70 years, Geraldine Stevenson of the home, sons Steven (Brenda) Stevenson of Savannah, MO, and Timothy Stevenson of St. Joseph, 4 grandchildren, Sara Ferris, Matthew Stevenson, Nicholas Stevenson, and Stephanie Stevenson, 8 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Gracie, Josalin and Gessa Ferris, Kaleb and Riley Stevenson, Axel and Cassel Chapman.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, October 2, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home with interment following at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Pastor Steve Stevenson, officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 1st at the Rupp Funeral Home.
