Donald 'Donnie' W. Summers 1950 - 2023

Donald “Donnie” W. Summers, 73, of Lathrop, MO passed away with loved ones by his side on September 28, 2023.

He was born on April 10, 1950 to Donald Rupert and Geraldine Adell (Hallmark) Summers in Smithville, MO. Donnie grew up in Smithville and graduated from Smithville High School in 1968.

On November 26, 1976 he was united in marriage to Tina Collier. After their marriage they lived in Smithville and in 1997 they moved their family to the farm in Lathrop.

Donnie was a third-generation farmer. He farmed with his dad, son and grandsons from Smithville to Lathrop and everywhere in between. He was awarded the longest standing seed dealer for Taylor Seed Farms by his very close friend, Brad Taylor. Donnie was a volunteer firefighter for Smithville Fire Protection District. He was a member of the Northwest Street Machine Nationals. He was an avid supporter of the Chiefs and Royals and enjoyed attending the Half Century of Progress Farm Show for the past 10 years. From the time he got his license his love for horsepower grew every year. Donnie had a love for motor sports and especially drag racing and tractor pulling.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Tina; children, Curtis (Amy) Summers, Jessica (Jeromy) Romesburg, and Lesli (Travis) Lager; grandchildren, Madyson Beard, Ethan Summers, Trevor Adams, Melanie Lager, and JD Wayne; twin great-granddaughters, Emberlynn and Taelynn; sister, Connie (Dave) Lytle; and brother, Dannie (Beverly) Summers; mother-in-law, Gerrie Collier; honorary family member, Steve (Missy) Fisher; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.

Burial will be on the family farm in the cornfield of the newly established family cemetery.

The family requests casual dress.
