Gordon Lee Toms, 77 years old, of Atchison, KS died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison with Rev. Marty Reed, Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, who is entrusted with his cremation care and services. Gordon was born on Nov. 5, 1945, in Moberly, MO, the son of Burness D. and Mildred M. (Hample) Toms. He attended grade school in New Orleans, Louisiana, moved with his family to this area in his high school years and graduated from Atchison High School, in 1964. Gordon worked as a crane operator for over Forty-Five years, starting with LFM Foundry, Rockwell International, and Atchison Casting. He retired in 2007. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he helped by serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for Pack 94 and Troop 94. Gordon was an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, the honor camping society of Camp Geiger, St. Joseph, MO. His tribal name was Steel Arm. Gordon was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor that the Pony Express Council BSA can award. He was also a recipient of the George F. Meany Award and was Wood Badge Leader trained. He enjoyed reading, camping, hiking including at Philmont Scout Ranch, in Cimarron, New Mexico. He was married to Adena Earp on May 17, 1974, at the United Methodist Church, Atchison, KS. Adena survives at home. They have two children, Derek Toms, Liberty, MO and Nicole Toms (Sean Winrow), Atchison, KS, a sister Dixie A. Gilmore, Springfield MO, and five grandchildren Brady, Charlotte, Rowan, Caitlyn, and A’Ja and his constant companion his dog “BO”. His parents preceded him in death.

He was born October 17, 1986 in St. Joseph to Shawn and April Wells. A graduate of Central High School, Blaine lived all of his life in St. Joseph.

Blaine worked at Ag Processing Inc. in the refinery department.

Richard (Rick) L. Loft, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

He was born February 20, 1947, in Quincy, Illinois to Harold and Ruth (Barkley) Loft.

He graduated from Cameron High School and Central Missouri State University. He later obtained his master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Rick worked for Silgan Containers for over 30 years. He also served as Associate Pastor at Green Valley Baptist Church for 5 years, and on staff at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church after retirement.

On May 17, 1969, he married Suzanne Hardin. She survives of the home.

Rick was a member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church where he had served as an elder for many years. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and he loved taking part in all their activities and just spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Loft; daughter, Julie Korell (Mark); brother, Robert Loft (Patty); sister, Rebecca Kester; grandchildren, Morgan Galvin (Alex), Jake Korell and Kolby Korell; great-grandchild, Jack Galvin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MAYETTA – Corey Scott Smith, 17, of Mayetta, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at his home.&nbsp;

He was born July 6, 2005 in Topeka. His parents are Robert V. Smith and Elizabeth L. Long. Corey was a graduate of Royal Valley High School in Hoyt.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Mayetta United Methodist Church and played in the Drum Line at Royal Valley. He loved producing beats with his friends. He had also participated in the Cub Scouts and the Hoyt Livewires 4-H Club.

Corey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Martin Long and a cousin, Mhari Rowell.

Survivors include his parents, Robert Smith and Liz Long, of the home, his brother, Cody M. Smith, Nebraska City, NE, grandparents, Joanna Long, Lecompton and Bob and Jean Smith, Garden City, aunts and uncles, Milissa and Gareth Rowell, Clever, MO, Nick and Rowena Smith, Garden City, Nathan and Sherri Smith, Denver, CO and Jeny and Steven Bellavia, Lawrence, and eight cousins.

Crue Allen Osteen 5 week infant son of Tania Long &amp; Tyler Osteen passed away Tuesday April 11, 2023 at a Kansas City Hospital.

 He was born March 3, 2023 in St. Joseph, and is survived by his parents, brother Creedence, and sister Journey, paternal grandparents, Dane (Melanie) Osteen, Sedalia, MO, maternal grandparents, Angela (Terry) Church, Amazonia, MO, maternal grandfather, John Long, Rosendale, aunts, Cheyenne Long, and Melenna (Andy) Gardner, Kelsey Church, uncle, Blake Osteen, cousins, Emery, Avery, &amp; Archer, several, great aunts, uncles, and great grandparents. 

He was preceded in death by his aunt Sierra Church. He was the most precious baby boy. 

 was a mamas boy and his daddy’s best buddy. Snuggles were his favorite, especially in his rocking chair with mommy. He loved taking baths because mommy and daddy would give him a little mohawk every single time. He loved music, eating and tummy time. 

His brother and sister were crazy about him. They loved to hold his hands and read him books. He was so loved and he will be missed dearly.

Ruth C. Kneib passed away April 13, 2023. She was born October 5, 1922 to the late Daniel C. and Elva Kessler Reardon on the family farm west of Clarksdale, MO.&nbsp;

She was the third child of eight. She attended the Thornton Grade School and graduated from Maysville High School. She married Earl Kneib (deceased) on June 19, 1943 at Fort Benning, GA where he was stationed during WWII; shortly thereafter she traveled with him to Santa Anna Army Airbase in California where he was trained as a pilot in the Army Air Corp.&nbsp;

They celebrated 74 years together before his passing in 2017.

After the war they returned to farm and they developed and ran the family business of Kneib Pop-Up bale loaders with his brothers while she was the first cook at the then new Platte Valley School.&nbsp; Ruth was a homemaker and active in the Platte Valley Extension Club for many years.&nbsp;

They had two children, James M. Kneib (deceased) and Susan Kneib of Kansas City.&nbsp;

She and Earl enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling and dancing. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Altar Society.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; except for a brother, Wayne Reardon and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

The family wishes to express thanks to Field Pointe Care Center and AseraCare hospice for their terrific staff and care.

A parish rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. Following the rosary, the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM.

Doug Thee, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

He was born September 18, 1945, to Paul and Yetta (Willer) Thee in Chamois, Missouri. He graduated from Chamois High School and went on to earn his associate degree in bookkeeping.

He was a member of the United States Air Force for ten years, serving as an electrical technician. While stationed in Alaska, he met the love of his life, Diane Knutson. They were married on December 27, 1966. After spending years out in California, where he worked as a bookkeeper, Doug decided to move his family to Missouri where he and Diane raised their children.

Doug was a devoted member of the Community of Grace Assembly of God Church in Elwood, Kansas, where he worked as both secretary and bookkeeper. He was also in charge of the sound booth and theatrical lighting for church events at Caring First Assembly of God from 1980 to 2000 in St. Joseph.

He spent many years working for Gray Automotive as a telemarketing manager, before pursuing a career in truck driving. He received a certificate for a 17-year safe driving record.

Doug loved photography, guns, and southern gospel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Yetta; and brothers, Lavon Thee and Francis Thee (Mary).

Survivors include his wife, Diane; brother, Kenneth Thee; son, Jon Thee (Stephee); daughter, Melissa Thee; grandchildren, Diana Clark (Aaron Gastineau), Brent Thee (Karissa Brown), and Austin Clark; great-grandchild, Oliver Gastineau; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sharon Fay Thomas, passed away on April 10, 2023, at Menorah Medical Center. Born on March 3, 1961, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Sharon was the daughter of the late Donald and Shirley Nigh.

Sharon completed her high school education and went on to serve as a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years. Her dedication to her work and the care she provided to her patients were a testament to her kind and compassionate nature.

Throughout her life, Sharon enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting, always living life to the fullest. She cherished the time spent with her daughter, Danielle, who fondly remembers her mother as the best mother anyone could have. Sharon's love for God was evident in her actions and the way she treated others.

Sharon is survived by her significant other, Ernest J. Thomas, and her daughter, Danielle Thomas Payton. She was a beloved sister to Cheryl George, Tammy Huffman, Annie Nigh, Debbie Eldridge, and Brian Nigh. Sharon was predeceased by her parents and brother, Rick Nigh. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish her memory.

Sharon will be truly missed by all who knew her. Her daughter, Danielle, says, "I miss you, mommy." Sharon's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Allen Trinkle Jr. on April 7, 2023 at the age of 60 in Lansing, Kansas. David was born on June 13, 1962 to David Trinkle Sr. (deceased) and Margaret (Koker) Trinkle. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Donna Marie (Timon) Trinkle. 

David’s family includes his mother Margaret Trinkle, son Thomas Trinkle, daughter-in-law Jennifer Medrano, sister Shelley Mohan, brother-in-law Ralph Mohan, sister-in-law Esther Jones, sister-in-law Gina Owens, brother-in-law David Owens, brother-in-law Donald Timon (deceased), nephews Brandon (Mindy) Mohan, Kristopher Mohan, Steven (Taneaha) Kasper, Donald (Mandy) Timon, nieces Christine (Scott) Reusch, Ashley (Marc) Kappeas, Julie (Robbie) Boatright. 

David Trinkle was a pillar of the Lansing community. He was a professional auto mechanic for more than 30 years, including providing maintenance for city ambulances. David served as Lansing City Councilman from 2000-2023 and as a volunteer fire fighter and storm spotter for 15 years. He also founded the Lansing Fishing Derby. David and his wife Donna opened their home as foster parents for many years. David Trinkle has touched many hearts and made an impact on many lives. 

He will be missed dearly. Celebration of Life services will be Monday, April 17th at the Lansing Community Center from 6pm to 8pm.

Shirley Gossett, a spirited, loving, and thoughtful woman, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2023, in St. Joseph, Missouri, just three days shy of her 90th birthday. Born on April 14, 1933, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Delmar and Helen Lance, Shirley lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories with her family and friends.

Shirley graduated from Westport High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Donald William Gossett, in 1953. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, raising their son, Don Gossett, who survives her. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Donald, and her parents, Delmar and Helen Lance.

Shirley is survived by her son, Don Gossett (Sheryl); her sister, Joyce Keys; her grandchildren, Dustin and Lauren; and her four great-grandchildren, Grayson, Parker, Landon, and Crosby. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Throughout her life, Shirley was an active and enthusiastic participant in a variety of sports and hobbies. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and bowling, and she was an avid reader.

Lois Maxine Deatherage was born in Agency, MO on October 31 1922 to Robert and Idona Deatherage. Maxine attended Lafayette High School St. Joseph MO and Lake Worth Junior College in Lake Worth Florida. She met and married a pro-baseball player Charles ‘Babe’ Glunt. He was playing AAA ball at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, where Maxine had a job at the concession stand.&nbsp; They married and traveled following his career and ultimately settled in Lake Worth Florida. Throughout those years they had six children.

Maxine was an entrepreneur at heart, she started an upholstery business in her garage (with the exceptional help of her kids, who got to keep every coin they found), and later transitioned to making drapes. She was self-taught and was very successful at it. In addition, she opened an antique store and later a gift shop in Lake Worth FL, The Blue Heron Gift Shop.

Maxine loved to travel. &nbsp;Her early experience following her husband as he moved from one baseball team to another gave birth to that love of travel. She traveled to nine European countries and enjoyed multiple cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Alaska.

Maxine had a love for writing poetry and had one of her poems published of which she was very proud.

Maxine was a strong woman enduring many personal heartaches and loss, physical injuries, cancer, a heart attack and kidney failure. She endured these with grace, dignity, and class. She even delivered one of her own grandchildren who was named after her, Micki Taylor.

Maxine loved jewelry, classy dresses, shoes, flamingos and almost anything pink and of course she added her own signature flair.

She loved to dance, and dancing is where she met her last husband, David Hurst. David made her last seventeen years full of love and laughter. He proceeded her in death by five months.

Maxine’s faith was a big part of her life and many of her poems reflect that faith. She often wondered “Who will be the first loved one she will see in heaven?”.

She was, even at 100 years old, a force to be reckoned with, and she never lost her love of life and her love for family.

She passed quietly and peacefully at home with family.

Maxine had many names in this life, but the best was mother.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Idona (Beckner) Deatherage, Brothers, Oliver Deatherage, Robert Deatherage, Wayne Deatherage, and Bill Deatherage and a sister Betty Hawk. Three daughters, Joyce Lynn Glunt (died at three days old), Judith Ann Phillips, and Betty Renae Viatori. Husbands Charles ‘Babe’ Glunt, Eban Monroe and David Hurst.

She is survived by a sister Lorene Marshall St. Joseph MO, three sons, Kenneth Charles Glunt, of Norman OK. Clifford Jack Glunt of Tallahassee FL, Gary Wayne Glunt of St. Joseph MO. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and on and on. Along with many loving friends.

Visitation, 5:30 - 6:30 PM Wednesday evening at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel followed by a memorial service at 6:30 PM.

Mrs. Monroe will be cremated following the services. Inurnment at the Agency Cemetery at a later date.

Union Star, Missouri…John W. Hutchcraft Jr., age 81, was born December 18, 1941 in Union Star, Missouri, the son of John Sr. and Imogene (Jackson) Hutchcraft and passed away April 10, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

John graduated from Union Star High School in 1960. He married Rose Marie Montgomery on May 7, 1982.

He retired from SWBell/AT&amp;T. He was a member of PCG, NW Missouri Genealogy Society, and Dekalb County Historical Society.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, John Marshall Hutchcraft and sister, Carol Eddleman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Rose of the home; daughters, Robyn (Michael) Ceglenski of Union Star, and Valerie Hutchcraft of Union Star; stepson, Joshua Rucker of Saint Joseph; grandchildren, Kayla and Austin Ceglenski; sisters, Barbara Cochran of Wichita, KS., Kathy Hoiland of Billings, MT, Debbie Couldry of Union Star, and Dawn Yargas of CA.; brother, Doug Hutchcraft of Springfield, MO.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

John William Hutchcraft Jr. 1941 - 2023

Theodore "Ted" Eugene Wright Jr., 101, of St Joseph, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at his home. He was born March 28, 1922 in St. Joseph, son of Ethel (Moore) and Theodore Wright. 

He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1942. He worked at Swift as a Butcher. Ted enjoyed gardening, he loved his flowers and tinkering with whatever he could. Ted was a member of St. James Catholic Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ed Wright, sister, Marjorie Johannes, and the mother of his children, Darlene Wright. 

Survivors include children, Patti (Bill) Wiebe, Theodore "Ted" (Sherry) Wright, III, and Michelle Applegate, all of St. Joseph, brother, George Wright of Colorado, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to think Ted's Grandson, Doug Kowalewycz and Tradition's Hospice for the special care which they provided. Mr. Wright has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. No services are scheduled at this time.

Kristin was a licensed professional counselor who devoted her life to helping others in need. She was an animal lover, especially her cats. 

Kristin was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Louise Stewart, father, Nathan Stewart Sr. 

She married Carlos Marquez on July 18, 2015 and he survives of the home, additional survivors include siblings: Larry Stewart, Carmen (Shannon) Anderson, Nathan (Kelley) Stewart, Jr. Pamela Stewart, Frank Stewart, and Kaila (Eric) Waller, as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Damon William Craig was born in St. Joseph, MO on April 15, 1972 to parents Patricia Ann &amp; Robert Lee Craig, Jr.

He attended Central High School and Missouri Western State University.

After moving to Sanibel Island, Florida he met and married Carina Winter. They had 2 children Bailey Ashton Craig and Hannah Isabelle Craig.

He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, he was a Mason and a member of the Moila Shrine Temple.

Through the years he worked as a Bartender, Realtor, Hair Stylist and as a Welder.

He loved to play golf, ride his Harley and hang out drinking with friends.

He is survived by his children Bailey and Hannah Craig, and their mother. His mother Patricia Ann Craig, his father Robert Lee Craig, Jr. and his wife Karen. His sister Shannon Clark and nephew Carter Clark. His half sister Lisa Craig Bone and her husband James, his half brother Dan Craig and his wife Terri, their children and grandchildren.

Mr Craig has been cremated under the direction of the Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Damon W. Craig 1972 - 2023

Ron Ramsey, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023.

He was born on December 27, 1946, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Otis and Berniece Ramsey. He graduated from Lafayette High School and joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a fire protection specialist.

He spent two years in Japan and one year in Saigon, South Vietnam, returning home in December 1969. In March 1970, he joined the St. Joseph Fire Department, retiring after 38 and a half years.

Ron was a Christian and a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church, where he served since 1989.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Gloria J. Ramsey (French); son, Bryan J. Ramsey of Columbia, MO; stepson, Rodney Smith of Texas; brother, Larry Ramsey (Jeanne) of Conroe, TX; sisters, Karen Patton (David) and Rita Peden (Ron) of St. Joseph, MO; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Friday, Green Valley Baptist Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory.

Donald Bradley, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023.

He was born March 2, 1932 to Roy Bradley and Elsie Stallsworth in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He married Juana Lee Tietz on August 7, 1959.

Donald worked for St. Joseph News-Press as a photographer for 30 years and then he was a salesman at Car City Chrysler for 14 years.

He was a member of Community of Christ Church.

Donald enjoyed photography, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vivian Bradley; siblings, Robert Bradley, Loretta Brooks, and Jenny Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Juana Bradley; daughter, Denise Bradley; brother, Richard Bradley (Diane); grandchildren, Justin Olson (Chrisanna), Paige Olson (Phil); great-grandchildren, Jonas, Jude, and Mary-Therese Olson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Friday, 17th Street Community of Christ Church. Private Inurnment Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the Service.

Donald Bradley 1932 - 2023

Darrell G. Thornton 39 of Plattsburg Missouri died Wednesday April 5, 2023, at a Cameron Missouri Hospital. Born on April 22, 1983, in Kansas City Missouri to Darrell G. and Kathy (Reimund) Thornton Sr.&nbsp; 

He was an avid KC Chiefs fan, he also loved to go arrowhead hunting and cooking was his passion. He made friends with everyone, never met a stranger. Darrell loved politics and the news. He was a family man. On June 21, 2018, he married Rashell Hiser. 

He was preceded in death by his father.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Rashell of the Home; three children Liam, Lily Anna, and Leah; his mother Kathy Thornton of Holts Summit MO; sister Misty Thornton of Neosho MO; brother Robert Thornton of Clinton MO., and his nephews and nieces and extended family.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held 1:00PM Friday April 14, 2023, at the Bread of Life Church Plattsburg Missouri. Mr. Thornton has been cremated under the direction of the Bailey &amp; Cox Family Funeral Service Plattsburg Missouri.

Daniel Varga Sr., 79, of Weston, MO, passed away on April 06, 2023, at NorthCare Hospice House. Daniel Varga Sr. was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to John and Anna Varga on February 8, 1944. 

He went to school in Jersey City. He married Roberta Ann Chidester at Offutt Air Force Base on December 07, 1963. He graduated from The University of Nebraska Omaha with an Associate’s in Electronic Engineering in 1973 and attended the Radio Engineering Institute of Omaha from 1966 - 1968. He worked as an Electronic Engineer for numerous companies, including Control Data, Dysan, Stolley Corp, Digital, SpeedFam, and a Traffic Signal &amp; Lighting Tech with the Arizona Department of Transportation. 

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Air Force from February 1962 to February 1968. In the Air Force, he was a Radio Relay Equipment Repair Man. He enjoyed working on tube radios, fishing, fostering dogs, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Varga, and his infant son Dennis Allen Varga. 

Daniel is survived by his wife of 59 years, Roberta Ann Varga, children Daniel Jr. (Cindy) Varga, Scott (Michele) Varga, and Susan (Keith) Finn, brother Kenneth (Barbara) Varga, sister Rosemarie (John) Greenip, grandchildren Jerry, Brittany, Halley, and Patrick, step-grandchildren Liam and Sarah, great-grandchildren Sadie, Ellie and Huck and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. 

Visitation &amp; Rosary will be 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Weston; followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral with Fr. Steven C. Rogers officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Luncheon to follow interment at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Nathan Emery, 25, of Lathrop, MO passed away, April 9, 2023.

He was born on June 28, 1997 in Liberty, Missouri. Nate grew up in Lathrop where he attended school. Nate loved his fiancé, Sarah, and his family and spending time with them. He created his own rap songs and his love and hugs were incomparable.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Kenneth E. Moore and Jon Emery; step-mother, Denise Emery.

He is survived by his beloved fiancé, Sarah Loyd; father, Jim Emery; mother Sue Cox Carty and step-father, Bill Carty; siblings, Jimmy (Randi) Johnson, Miranda Christenson, Brittany (Wayne) Price, Bradley Cox, Kenneth Cox (Abigail Ott), and Sarah Delaware; grandparents, Bob and Virginia Boyles and Carolyn (Tom) Shockey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends.
