Jewel Lee (Edwards) King passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members on December 27, 2023.
She was born November 27, 1924, in Hamilton, MO., to the parents of Isaac Lee and Grace (Lewis) Edwards. She attended Prairie View School in Daviess County and Hamilton Elementary School. She moved to Winston, MO in 1934 where her father worked in the coal mine. She is a graduate of Winston High School and the former Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph. She married Clarence H. King in 1947. She did the bookkeeping for her husband's business.
She was known for her love for her family. She was happiest when surrounded by all her kids and grandchildren whether she was having a tea party, playing dress up, or cooking with them, anytime spent together was treasured. She was also well known for making Grandma burgers and mashed potatoes, there were always some ready when you arrived at Grandma's house. You may have walked into her house as a stranger but left as family with a full belly.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence H. King; her brothers Lawrence Edwards, Donald Edwards, and Wilford Edwards; sisters Jean Ridenour, Goldie Pesihan, Dorthy Larson, Lee Edwards, and Sarah Moulin; and daughter-in-law Connie King.
Survivors included her sister Lilly Bigley, sons C. Wayne King, Herbert (Collen) King, James (Jennifer) King, five grandsons, one granddaughter, 17 great-grandchildren, and 8 Great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 04 2024 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel followed by Interment with Full Military Honors at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday also at our chapel.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Noyes Home for Children.
