Jerry Eugene Wayman, aged 86, peacefully departed this world on December 30 after bravely facing respiratory and circulatory medical challenges. He was born on June 18, 1937, to Donovan and Maurine Wayman in Greentop, Missouri.
On September 6, 1958, Jerry joined hands in marriage with Carolyn 'Joyce' Wills, and together they shared 37 happy years until her passing in 1996. Jerry is survived by his children: Mikel (Cathie) of St. Joseph MO, Julie Riggs (Kenneth) St. Joseph MO, Joe (Margie) of O’Fallon MO, and Mary Janell 'Jan' (Paul) of Rogersville MO. His legacy extends further through his 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Jerry attended Kirksville Teaching College, where he met Joyce. Their married life took them from Kirksville to St. Joseph, where Jerry would make a lasting impact on the community. Serving with dedication, Jerry contributed 22 years of his life to the Army National Guard Reserves,
A defining chapter of Jerry's life unfolded when he and Joyce established J.J. Wayman Lawncare. Through the years, their business became a hub for friendship, community engagement, and customer interactions throughout the St. Joseph area. Jerry's passion for his work was evident, and he remained an active force at J.J. Wayman Lawncare until his well-deserved retirement in 2008.
In memory of Jerry, the family kindly requests that, instead of flowers, contributions be made in his name to The Dream Factory, a cause close to his heart.
Jerry's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and commitment to family and community will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in the eternal peace of Christ.
