Twila Arline Rathgeber, 89, departed this world peacefully on December 24, 2023, St. Joseph, Missouri. Born on July 24, 1934, in San Antonio, Missouri, to the late Elwyn H. and Esther K. (Ladage) Schottel, Twila grew to become a beloved sister, wife, aunt, and friend.
She was a proud graduate of Clarksdale High School, after which she embarked on a fulfilling career. For many years, she dedicated her expertise to Yellow Freight Trucking, and later in life, she enjoyed being a real estate agent.
On August 31, 1984, Twila married the love of her life, Gerald Edward Rathgeber. Upon retirement, the couple enjoyed eight sun-filled years in the beautiful state of Florida. Although Gerald predeceased her on February 2, 2019, their memories remained a source of comfort and joy for Twila.
She was a member of Ashland United Methodist and Leesburg Methodist Church in Florida. She had a myriad of interests – from bowling and golfing to playing dominos, hand and foot card game, and traveling. Her musical talents were expressed in her playing of the organ and piano, and she had a particular love for embroidery.
Family was the heart of Twila's world. She is survived by her sister, Norma Kay Cox, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were all touched by her generosity–precious moments like sleepovers, shopping outings, and the delight of her homemade fudge. Twila was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; siblings, Wayne Schottel and Darline Nold; and nephew, Neal Nold.
