Karl Leaton, 82, Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
He was born on March 3, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas to Karl Sr. and Clara Leaton.
Karl graduated from Turner High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army.
He married his wife Nancy Jane Hogan, and they spent 25 wonderful years together before her death in 2006. Karl later went on to marry his second wife, Judith.
Karl loved cars, especially Model T Fords. In better times, he was a member of the Model T Ford Club. He enjoyed many tours driving his Model T around the United States. When he wasn’t in the garage working on his cars, he could be found watching a Nascar race or the Chiefs.
During Karl’s working years, he worked for several companies. He began at A&P Grocery in the Kansas City area. After the store he worked for closed its doors, he moved to St. Joseph, eventually working for Payless Cashways and finally Lowe’s Home Improvement before his retirement.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Nancy, brother, Sam Leaton and his grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Leaton, daughter, Tishia (Brian) Brown, grandchildren, Zach Brown and Riley Brown, nephew, David (Lesley) Leaton, and niece, Karen (Randy) Eickhoff.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
