Bonnie Louise (Robertson) Smith, age 88, formerly of Wathena, KS, passed away on December 26, 2023 at a healthcare facility in Lansing, KS.
Bonnie was born November 27, 1935 to John L. and Mamie Robertson of Blair, KS. They later moved to a farm north of Troy.
On December 15, 1951, Bonnie married her loving husband, John F. Smith, Jr. They were married for 68 years, until John’s death in 2019. They were wonderful parents of four children: Deborah, Frederick, Timothy, and Kevin. They enjoyed gardening and sharing produce with friends and family. Bonnie was very proud of her family and enjoyed sharing pictures and stories with all of her friends and extended family. After their four children were in school, Bonnie worked as a nurse’s aide at the St. Joseph (Sisters) Hospital. She later worked at the Wathena Nursing Home in the Housekeeping Department. Bonnie was also an end-of-life caregiver for her father and her oldest brother in her home.
Bonnie was an active member of the Wathena Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Jessie, Orville, Vernon and Ernie Robertson; her sisters, Mabel O. Bacon and Leila Hingst Gamache; and son-in-law, Harry E. (Gene) Parker.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Deborah Parker of Amazonia; her sons, Fred (Cindy) Smith of Wathena, Tim (Lisa) Smith of Wathena, and Kevin (Linda) Smith of St. Joseph; her sister, Betty Morris of Platte City; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 3:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Bellemont Cemetery. Wathena, KS. The family will gather with friends 1:30 to 2:30 P.M.
