Nancy Jane Dorrel left her earthly home on March 23, 2023 at the age of 95. Nancy was born the youngest child of John William and Gladys Silvey on August 11, 1927 in Nettleton, MO. She was the baby sister to three older brothers Marvin, Dean and Charles and spoke fondly of their Nettleton years. 

She married Carlos Wayne Dorrel on January 12, 1949. They built their home and farm in Hamilton and happily remained there for 51 years. They moved to Liberty, MO in 2000 and were married for 70 years when Carlos passed in January 2019.

Carlos and Nancy had two children: Wayne (Ann) Dorrel of Kidder and Carol (Ken) Graham of Platte City; five grandchildren Bryan (Crystal) Dorrel, Leslie Dorrel, Erin (Justin) Talley, Elissa (Tyler) Bottles and Josh (Jodie) Graham; thirteen great grandchildren; six great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy enjoyed staying active in the business of farming until Carlos retired and they began traveling in their fifth wheel. She loved school and remained a student of number crunching, avid reading and telling of generational stories all of her years. She was practical in every way and would tell her family with every parting, “Do good, be good and have fun”. Until we meet again — we love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.

Celebration of Life will be held on April 1 at 2 p.m. at the Hamilton Federated Church, 210 S. Davis Street in Hamilton, MO.

Ronald Eugene Tilton, 53, a longtime resident of White Cloud, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, March 24, 2023, at Amberwell Hiawatha.

He was born June 1, 1969, in Horton, Kansas, one of six children born to LeRoy ‘Pete’ and Marilyn Hunt Tilton and has lived in northeast Kansas area his entire life. He grew up at Horton and the family lived there until he was in middle school prior to the family moving to White Cloud and later graduated from Highland High School with the class of 1987.

Ron worked in agriculture business for over 20 years, currently for Nutrien Ag Solutions. He enjoyed his family and time spent with them.&nbsp; His hobbies included working in his yard, riding side by sides, and was an avid sports fan: Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and KU basketball.

He married Penny Rhodd January 26, 2001 at Troy, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives at home. Also surviving are sons Bryan (Tiffany) Rhodd of Highland, Aaron (Ashley) Rhodd of White, Cloud; grandchildren:&nbsp; Addy, Kenna, and Carter.&nbsp; Also surviving are his siblings Barry (Terry) Tilton of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jackie (Bob) Edie of Iowa point, Kansas, Pat (Kim) Tilton of White Cloud, Michelle Betts (Russ Craft) of Haddam, Kansas, Carroll ‘Carl’ Tilton (Joan Hostetter) also of Fayetteville; with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Jeremy Tilton in 2017, infant nephews: Eric Betts in 1998, and Trevor Betts in 1999.

Services are planned for 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland. Angie Cluck will officiate. Cremation will follow with private family inurnment at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2-5 p.m. Monday, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday where the family will meet prior to service with friends from 2 until 4 p.m.

Dale Richard Gandy, 86, of Gower, MO passed away March 23, 2023, surrounded by his family at home.

He was born on October 22, 1936, to Calvin Kirk and Grace G. (Sines) Gandy in Rothville, MO, on the family farm where he grew up. He graduated from Northwestern High School outside of Rothville and went on to serve his country in the United States Army.&nbsp;

On September 1, 1961, he was united in marriage to Joyce Lynne Morgan. After their marriage they lived in Trimble, MO, and later moved to the farm in rural Gower where they raised their family and currently reside.&nbsp;

Dale retired as a mechanic in the plating shop from TWA on January 1, 1999, after 42 years of service. He enjoyed restoring old cars, attending tractor shows, playing jokes and visiting with friends. Most of all he loved being with his family and bonus family, the Herpel’s. The highlight of his life was watching his grandchildren grow and he was proud of the young adults they have become. He never knew a stranger and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed dearly.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Kirk and Grace Gandy; brother Robert Gandy and wife Betty; sister Deloris Rock and husband Floyd; and sister-in-law Mary Gandy.

Dale is survived by his wife Joyce Gandy of the home; sons Jeff Gandy and wife Annie Wu and Jarrett Gandy and wife Heidi; grandchildren Collin Gandy and wife Camelia, Gabrielle Gandy, Amberlee Gandy and Ruby Wu; brothers Kenneth Gandy and wife Anne and Calvin Gandy and wife Ida Lee; beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Gene Keller, 70, Clarksdale, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

He was born January 31, 1953, to Kenneth and Nellie (Dumm) Keller in St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1983, he was united in marriage to Arline Porter. She survives of the home.

He worked for Quaker Oats as a machine operator for many years.

Gene enjoyed working in the fields bailing hay, gardening, fishing, camping and hunting. He never knew a stranger, and would talk to anyone. Gene enjoyed the holidays because he knew he would be surrounded by his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Rickey Keller, and daughter, Lorrie Peden Elrod.

John Edward Schellhorn, 56, of St Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at his home. He was born February 20, 1967 in St. Joseph, son of Ruth &amp; Edward Schellhorn. 

He married Shirley Smith on September 4, 1985. John was a 1985 graduate of Lafayette High School. He worked at Daily's, Hillshire Foods and Tyson as a Maintenance Supervisor. His hobbies included bowling, football, softball, watching and coaching sports and working on cars. 

John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Tammy Schellhorn. 

He is survived by wife, Shirley Schellhorn of the home, children, Ashlee Schellhorn and Greg Schellhorn (Lacey Heater), all of St. Joseph, siblings, Kim (Keith) Fowler of St. Joseph, Jerry (Julie) Schellhorn of Stewartsville, MO, Dennis (Kathy) Schellhorn of Stewartsville, MO, Sam Schellhorn of St Joseph, grandchildren, Bailey Schellhorn-Dougan, Brianna Skaith, Braedyn Ellis, Brinley King, Aubree Heater, Dalton Heater, Dillon Heater, and Ava Heater, step-mother, Althae Schellhorn of St. Joseph and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Schellhorn of the home, children, Ashlee Schellhorn and Greg Schellhorn (Lacey Heater), all of St. Joseph, siblings, Kim (Keith) Fowler of St. Joseph, Jerry (Julie) Schellhorn of Stewartsville, MO, Dennis (Kathy) Schellhorn of Stewartsville, MO, Sam Schellhorn of St Joseph, grandchildren, Bailey Schellhorn-Dougan, Brianna Skaith, Braedyn Ellis, Brinley King, Aubree Heater, Dalton Heater, Dillon Heater, and Ava Heater, step-mother, Althae Schellhorn of St. Joseph and several nieces and nephews. On Sunday, March 19, 2023 Kari lost her struggle with cancer but 
triumphed over death, entering into the embrace of God’s eternal love. 
Kari was born on April 17. 1971 in Mesa, Arizona, to a military family 
living in Tempe, Arizona. 

Her father, U.S. Air Force (Ret) Lt. Col., 
Leon Torkelson, who was a fighter pilot and his assignments occasioned 
numerous family relocations. Kari’s mother, Glenda, was a schoolteacher 
and always told Kari how lucky she was to be able to move to and enjoy 
new places.  Kari had a lifelong love for travel and the opportunities 
for learning it provided. 

In addition to Arizona, Kari lived in 
California, West Germany, Alabama, Virginia, Nevada, Norway and Kansas. 
She attended four elementary schools, two junior high schools, and three
 high schools. At the age of fifteen, Kari spent her sophomore year in 
Norway as an exchange student. Kari was a cheerleader, band member 
(trombone), athlete holding the record for javelin and Salutatorian of 
her 1989 high school class at Atchison County Community High School. 
Kari attended the University of Kansas earning her undergraduate degree 
in 1993 and in 1999, her Master of Science Degree in 
Education-Counseling. Kari participated in college activities and sports
 including the KU and, later, K-State Women’s’ Rugby teams. She was a 
member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, Kansas University Band and Tau Beta 
Sigma -the honorary women’s band society. 
Kari married Brian Anderson on July 5, 2003. Kari and Brian’s children, 
the twins, Jonas and Anya, were born in 2006 and are currently high 
school Juniors at Lansing High School. 
Kari began her teaching career in Robinson, Kansas followed by two years
 teaching for the Department of Defense in Japan. After completing her 
Masters degree, she worked as a High School Counselor in Junction City, 
KS and later worked as a Counselor at Pleasant Ridge High School.

For 
the last four years, Kari worked as College/Career Counselor at Lansing 
High School and was a member of the American School Counselor 
Association. As a high school counselor, Kari always found time to 
listen and help her students in any way possible. She attended almost 
every athletic event, play and music concert. The students knew that she
 was in attendance and cheering them on! She also served as a Coach of 
the Lansing High School Scholars Bowl team. 
Kari always expressed a strong sense of patriotism, a genuine love of 
and respect for people and a strong desire to help others. In addition 
to school and family activities, Kari was an active participant and 
leader in numerous church and civic organizations. She served as a 
Member and Chapter Regent of the Kansas State Society- Daughters of the 
American Revolution (DAR) and was voted the Outstanding Junior DAR 
member in 2005; Member and Past President of a P.E.O. Chapter; and 
several programs and activities at the First United Methodist Church, 
Leavenworth. She also enjoyed coaching the twins’ youth soccer and 
basketball teams. 
Kari is survived by her husband, Brian, and her children, Jonas and 
Anya. She is also survived by her mother, Glenda Torkelson, brother, 
Kurt Torkelson, and his wife, Amy; their children Aubrey, Chase and 
Brody; and her mother-in-law, Colleen Anderson . 
She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Torkelson, and father-in-law, Kenneth Anderson. 
The family will greet friends at Leintz Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 
28 from 5 to 8 P.M. Kari’s life will be celebrated at First United 
Methodist Church, 422 Chestnut Street, Leavenworth, on Wednesday, March

Florestine V. (Weston) Turner, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

She was born March 5, 1938 to James Glen Isaac and Lena Mae (Corbin) Weston in Lathrop, Missouri.

She married Henry Turner, Sr. on May 21, 2001.

She was a member of First Baptist Mount Union Church but later transferred to Hope Fellowship Church.

Florestine enjoyed watching the Chiefs and Mustang games. She also loved cooking and sewing. She was well known and loved by the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, James Weston, Jr., Charles Weston, Sr., Ella King, Martha Grier, Curtis Weston, Sr., Frances Holland, and Velda Weston.

Survivors include her son, Alonzo Weston (Deanna); sister, Ceola McGaughy; sisters-in-law, Virginia and Joanne Weston; grandchildren, Alonzo Weston, Jr., Nicole Hughes; great grandchildren, Asia Weston and Jace Deaver; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her beloved granddog, Eubie.

Harold Lee Hamm, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care.

He was born on November 6, 1932, to Elmer and Pearl (Wolfe) Hamm in St. Joseph, Missouri. On November 6, 1954, he married Billie Ann McDowell. Harold worked as a mailman for the United States Postal Service for 28 years.

He was a member of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Harold was also a member of the Southside Lions, Southside Progressive, the American Legion, and Hyde Valley United Methodist Church. He volunteered for Toys for Tots, Habitat for Humanity and Camp Quality, where he would bring his funnel cake truck to raise money for the campers.

Mr. Hamm was a member of the King Hill Lodge No. 376, A.F. &amp; A.M., 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Moila Shrine.

Harold enjoyed yard work and being outdoors, playing bingo, and watching dog and horse races. Harold coached youth baseball, and he loved to watch his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was the most important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Pearl; sister, Thelma Jackson; son, Harold Lee, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lorri Hamm; great-granddaughter, Adalyn Jean, and several nieces and nephews.

He was born on July 23, 1959, in Havana, Cuba. He was raised by his mother, Mirtha Magdalena.

He grew up in Cuba, and eventually moved to the United States as a refugee. He worked as a residential painter for several years.

Roberto enjoyed his morning coffee with extra sugar, going for walks, painting and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. He helped raise his granddaughter, JoJo “Chunky Chunky”, and especially loved spending time with her. He was always there for his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Cristina Gonzalez, Jessica Gonzalez and Sara Gonzalez; grandchildren, Carmine, Aleah, Cyia, JoJo, Timmy and Royel; the mother of his children, Deborah Flores, and extended family and friends in Cuba.

Katherine Jane Gilbert 1945 - 2023

A bright light left our world when Kathleen Anne Haag, 94, passed away on March 22, 2023. She was born March 16, 1929, to parents Henry and Eva (Rooney) Studer. Kathleen was raised on the farm south of Fairview with her four siblings.

She attended Fairview schools and graduated in 1946, with the honor of Valdictorian, from Fairview High School. She obtained certification to teach school at different times from both Emporia State and Marymount College, Salina. She taught in Satanta, KS and Fairview, KS schools.

Throughout her childhood, she attended St. Augustine Catholic Church south of Fairview with her family. At age 12, she became the organist at church. As an adult with her own family, she continued to be an active member and organist.

Kathleen married Jesse Haag on June 5, 1950. They lived in Fairview and owned the Haag Locker. They had three children: Kim, Karen, and Annette.

Kathleen worked in Fairview—many years at the Locker plant and in later years at Farmers State Bank. She was an involved member of the Fairview community and served on the Fairview School Board 1963-1966.

She moved to Hiawatha in 1973 and made her home and worked there for 50 years until she passed. She was a member of and organist for St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Kathleen performed many volunteer activities, a couple being as a Gray Lady at the hospital and at the North Brown County Food Bank.

Kathleen was a musician her entire life; a master of the organ and piano. Throughout her life she gave piano lessons to hundreds of students. She played for hundreds of weddings, funerals, and community events. She could sit down at the piano and play a song by heart. She did this up until her last illness.

Kathleen was a kind, friendly, happy woman. She was generous, a hard worker and the best mother ever. If you knew her, you knew that she had spunk and moved about quickly for such a tiny lady. She was witty and boy was she intelligent. She loved to have a good political discussion. She ran for the Kansas Legislature around 1984 but was not successful. She was a member of the Brown County Democrat organization.

Kathleen faithfully served and worshipped as part of her Faith. God rest her soul. All her questions are now answered.

Kathleen is survived by her children: Kim (Paige) Haag; Karen Scott; and Annette (Johnny) Sellars. Grandchildren: Ian (Audrey) Haag, Dana Haag, Shawn Scott, Emmet Sellars, and Molly Sellars, and 5 great grandchildren. One brother, Raymond Studer, and family members too numerous to name.

She is predeceased by her parents Henry and Eva Studer; siblings: Eileen (Studer) Haefele, Henry (Bud) Studer, Jr, and Alyce (Studer) King; and granddaughter Elizabeth Scott.

Visitation will be held at Chapel Oaks on March 28, 5:30-7:00 pm, prayer service at 7:00 pm and Rosary at 7:15 pm. The funeral Mass will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Hiawatha, KS, on March 29 at 10:30 am. Burial following at St. Augustine Catholic cemetery, Fidelity, KS.

Maysville, Missouri…Brian Lee Littlejohn, age 59, was born March 5, 1964 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Arley and Marrianne (King) Littlejohn, he passed away March 22, 2023.

Brian was a graduate of Lafayette High School and He worked for over 25 years for Envision Tech Inc. in St. Joseph, Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and grilling and smoking meat. Most of all, Brian loved the time he spent with family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Penny Littlejohn; and stepdaughter, Ali LeMunyon.

Vicki Lynn Campbell, age 64, of Atchison, Kansas, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at her home surrounded by her children and sister.

A visitation with the family will be on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Vicki was born on August 2, 1958, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of William L. Blair and Betty (Redmond) Blair. She attended schools in Atchison and graduated from Atchison High School in 1976.

Vicki was very stubborn about going on a date with him, but she finally did and a year later she married the love of her life, Dale Lee Campbell, on July 3, 1981, in Cimarron, KS. They shared many great years together and were inseparable as a couple; they ate lunch together every single day and worked side by side at their construction company. She worked several jobs before taking over Campbell Decorating where she ran the store for over twenty years while also taking care of the clerical work for Atchison Construction. She continued her role in Atchison Construction for the rest of her life.

The most important part of Vicki’s life was her family. Her life revolved around her husband Dale and her sons, Andrew (Katie), Matthew (Lindsey), her daughter Rebecca; and her grandchildren, Larken, Cooper, Callum and Brooks. She did not miss a single sporting event and she spoiled them endlessly. She loved her grandkids so much that she would even get out in the cold to attend their events. The memories that they made together as a family are endless and always included the family dogs. She loved to fish and enjoyed taking her kids fishing with her.

Vicki and Dale always wanted to become foster parents, so she did so a few years ago and gained her bonus daughters, Myka and Makyla. She is also survived by her siblings, William (Teri) Blair and Karen Hall and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale and two nephews, James Blair and Shawn Hall.

Datha Margaret (Frans) Roberts, 104, of Savannah, Missouri passed away Wednesday March 22, 2023 in St. Joseph enjoying listening to music from her favorite local singer, Josh Daniels of Grant City. She was born May 24, 1918 in Easton, Missouri daughter of Lucian &amp; Beulah (Lewis) Frans. 

She married Stanley Roberts on August 12, 1948 and they made their home on a farm near Stanberry, Missouri. She enjoyed being around her friends, going to dances where her favorite local musicians played, and celebrating her birthdays with an annual motorcycle ride. 

Datha was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Roberts, her parents, sisters, Alma Stephens, Virginia Morris, and brother, Kenneth Frans. 

She is survived by son, Ronald (Fawn) Roberts of Hollister, MO, grandsons, Troy (Danette) Roberts and Gregg (Myrna) Roberts of St. Joseph, former daughter in law, Irene (Roy) Walker of St. Joseph, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Datha's life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Benedictine Living Community of St. Joseph and Freudenthal Hospice for their care and support.

Ronald Conkling, 54, Clarksdale, Missouri, passed away in his home surrounded by his family and friends on Monday, March 20, 2023.

He was born September 14, 1968 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Kenneth and Helen (Dunham) Conkling. He graduated from Mid-Buchanan R5 High School.

Ronald married Audrey Tarnell Landrum on March 28, 1987. She survives of the home.

Ronald loved his wife, his children, and his 7 grandchildren. He enjoyed working with his business partner and beloved friends, Marty and Marla Weets at Marty’s Auto Service.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Kay (Dunham) Conkling, grandparents, Lloyd and Bethel Conkling and James and Maxine Dunham.

Charles C. Carr Jr., 83, of Hiawatha, formerly of St. Joseph, Mo., passed on March 20, 2023, after suffering a stroke in 2021.

He was born September 9, 1939, in St. Joseph, one of two children 
born to Charles Sr. and Mildred Shaney Carr.&nbsp; Charlie graduated from 
Central High School in 1957 prior to graduating from St. Joseph Junior 
College and attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, 
MO. He served 4 years in ROTC in high school and in the Missouri Air 
Guard, St. Joseph. His working career included Bankers Dispatch and 
Kansas Gas Service, retiring after 43 years of service.

Charlie married Susan Corwin (deceased) later divorced.&nbsp; Their 
children survive:&nbsp; Catherine (Steve) Seitz, Kelly (Luther) Ganieany, C. 
Clayton (Kim) Carr, Sam (Lynn) Metzger, John B Carr-Metzger.

He married Cheryl Wills and they later divorced.&nbsp; He married Gail 
(Adolph) Coker in 1989.&nbsp; They enjoyed traveling together and exploring 
steam engines on the railroad and excursion trains. They both spent 
countless hours volunteering at the Brown County Genealogical Society in
 Hiawatha where he was the handyman.&nbsp; &nbsp;She survives.&nbsp; He inherited (his 
favorite phrase) these children:&nbsp; J. Damon (Denise) Coker, Laura Coker, 
Alan (Kristy) Coker, and Lynne Coker.&nbsp;

Also surviving is a sister Charlene Sauceman, two nephews and a niece, 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren,

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter Johna Coker.

Graveside services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Catholic Cemetery, Valley Falls, KS.&nbsp; Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl will officiate.

Military honors will be a courtesy of Grahem-Herbers Post #3084, VFW of Valley Falls.

Florence Mary (Schneider) Peterson, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

Florence was born May 17, 1927 to Alfred and Elsa (Mandler) Schneider, Cosby, MO. She lived in the Cosby-Clarksdale area all her life.

She married the love of her life Marion (Bob) Peterson on March 19, 1948. They were married 69 years.

She loved the outdoors and working on the family farm – gardening, flowers, and milking cows or wherever she was needed.

She graduated from Savannah High School and was a member of the Cosby Zion United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Jerry Peterson and infant son, Melvin Lee; brothers, Vernon Schneider and Richard Schneider; and sister-in-law, Edith Schneider.

Survivors are son, Larry (Teggy) Peterson; sisters-in-law, Nancy Schneider and Betty Schneider; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Richard “Dick” Allen Borchardt, 79, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023.

He was born February 14, 1944 to Dr. Elmer A. and Lucile (Carder) Borchardt in Lindsborg, Kansas.

He received his degree in Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Northwest Missouri State University.

Dick married Donna K McLarney on April 2, 1970.

He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 19 years. He later worked for Defense Finance and Accounting for 14 years until Retirement.

He was a member of Abdallah Shrine in Overland Park, Kansas. He was also a previous member of Moila Shrine.

Dick enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Elmer A. and Lucile Borchardt; and brother, Charles Borchardt.

Richard "Dick" Allen Borchardt 1944 - 2023

Richard Delaine Janulewicz, 84, was born and raised in Grand Island, NE. Richard passed away peacefully at his home in Platte City, MO on March 20, 2023, with his wife of 30 years, Connie, and other family members by his side.

After his graduation from St. Mary’s High School in Grand Island, NE, Rich joined the US Air Force. He completed his training as a jet mechanic in San Antonio and Amarillo, TX and then continued his military service at Mt. Home AFB in ID as a B-47 jet mechanic. His crew received the Boeing Service Award for most on-time takeoffs. He was a member of the American Legion for 34 years.

Following his military service, Rich attended Kearney State College in Kearney, NE where he majored in Biology and Chemistry and graduated with a BA in Education. He then attended graduate school at the University of Idaho, where he majored in Bio-Physiology and was a member of two honorary fraternities Phi Sigma (Biological) and Sigma Xi (Research). He graduated with a Master of Science degree.

Rich worked at a variety of jobs as a teacher, an auto mechanic, an iron worker and as a senior scientist at an engineering firm. Rich found his calling when he began working in Health Sciences. During his 30-year career in Public Health, Rich worked for the Nebraska State Health Department as a Health Inspector for 14 counties out of Grand Island, NE and was then hired to initiate a Health Department in Norfolk, NE which he accomplished and managed for six years.

In 1979, Rich was hired as the Director of Health for the City of St. Joseph, MO, where he also served in various government roles including City Manager. In 1983, Rich was appointed as Director of Health for the Clay County Health Department, in Liberty, MO, where he served for 20 years and received Missouri Senate and Missouri House of Representatives commendations and resolutions upon his retirement.

Upon retiring in 2003, Rich continued to live an active life traveling, writing three books, enjoying time with his family, fishing and helping his wife, Connie, manage End of the Trail, a Native American Arts, Crafts and Jewelry Store in Weston, MO. He was a lifelong NE Huskers fan and attended games as often as possible.

Rich is preceded in death by his parents, Steven Michael Janulewicz and Cashmere Delphine (Spotanski); sister, Patricia Ann Janulewicz; granddaughter, Kaitlynne Sue Behymer and two Air Force brothers Irven Lasley and Russell Reason.

Survivors include his wife, Connie (Russell) Janulewicz of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Shawn Michelle Janulewicz of Albany, MO; stepsons, William Robert Behymer II (Susan) of Kansas City, MO, Michael Sean Behymer (Jennifer) of Grafton, MA, and Christopher Chad Behymer (Liza) of Surprise, AZ; sisters-in law, Linda (Russell) Borders, Alicia (Russell) Moon (Chris) and brother-in-law James Russell (Marlene); grandchildren, Aeriel McDonald, Kayleigh Swan, Tyler Behymer, Kayla Behymer and Allyson Behymer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rich is also survived by two Air Force brothers, Allen (Pete) Peterson and Richard Aug.

Rich maintained a life-long interest in Native American people and dedicated many years of his life to cultivating both friendships and documenting traditions of various tribes. He published a book, Brave Hearts and Their Cradleboards a Pictorial Review documenting the history of cradleboard makers from numerous Native American tribes. The Acoma Pueblo is honoring Rich with a ceremony of prayers and singing in the traditional Acoma way.

He was a member of the American Legion for 34 years.Following his military service, Rich attended Kearney State College in Kearney, NE where he majored in Biology and Chemistry and graduated with a BA in Education. He then attended graduate school at the University of Idaho, where he majored in Bio-Physiology and was a member of two honorary fraternities Phi Sigma (Biological) and Sigma Xi (Research). He graduated with a Master of Science degree.Rich worked at a variety of jobs as a teacher, an auto mechanic, an iron worker and as a senior scientist at an engineering firm. Rich found his calling when he began working in Health Sciences. During his 30-year career in Public Health, Rich worked for the Nebraska State Health Department as a Health Inspector for 14 counties out of Grand Island, NE and was then hired to initiate a Health Department in Norfolk, NE which he accomplished and managed for six years.In 1979, Rich was hired as the Director of Health for the City of St. Joseph, MO, where he also served in various government roles including City Manager. In 1983, Rich was appointed as Director of Health for the Clay County Health Department, in Liberty, MO, where he served for 20 years and received Missouri Senate and Missouri House of Representatives commendations and resolutions upon his retirement.Upon retiring in 2003, Rich continued to live an active life traveling, writing three books, enjoying time with his family, fishing and helping his wife, Connie, manage End of the Trail, a Native American Arts, Crafts and Jewelry Store in Weston, MO. He was a lifelong NE Huskers fan and attended games as often as possible.Rich is preceded in death by his parents, Steven Michael Janulewicz and Cashmere Delphine (Spotanski); sister, Patricia Ann Janulewicz; granddaughter, Kaitlynne Sue Behymer and two Air Force brothers Irven Lasley and Russell Reason.Survivors include his wife, Connie (Russell) Janulewicz of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Shawn Michelle Janulewicz of Albany, MO; stepsons, William Robert Behymer II (Susan) of Kansas City, MO, Michael Sean Behymer (Jennifer) of Grafton, MA, and Christopher Chad Behymer (Liza) of Surprise, AZ; sisters-in law, Linda (Russell) Borders, Alicia (Russell) Moon (Chris) and brother-in-law James Russell (Marlene); grandchildren, Aeriel McDonald, Kayleigh Swan, Tyler Behymer, Kayla Behymer and Allyson Behymer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Rich is also survived by two Air Force brothers, Allen (Pete) Peterson and Richard Aug.Rich maintained a life-long interest in Native American people and dedicated many years of his life to cultivating both friendships and documenting traditions of various tribes. He published a book, Brave Hearts and Their Cradleboards a Pictorial Review documenting the history of cradleboard makers from numerous Native American tribes. The Acoma Pueblo is honoring Rich with a ceremony of prayers and singing in the traditional Acoma way.Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 A.M. Saturday, St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Gladstone, Missouri. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home &amp; Crematory.
