William “Bill” Smith, 70, of Troy, Kansas died Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Bill was born on January 29, 1954, in St. Joseph, Missouri to &nbsp; Virgil &amp; Bernice (Bruns) Smith. &nbsp;He was a lifelong resident of Troy. &nbsp;Bill loved to tease his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Virgie Taylor and Susan Leach, brother, Ted Smith.

Bill is survived by his brother, George Smith of St. Joseph, Missouri. Numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends

Michael K. Simpson, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

He was born February 22, 1952 in St. Joseph to Ralph and Virginia (Flannery) Simpson. He grew up in Home City, Kansas, then the family moved back to St. Joseph when Michael started junior high. Michael was a 1970 graduate of Central High School.

Michael married Diane Marie Mullins on April 5, 1980. She survives of the home.

He worked at his father’s filling station, then at Mead Paper for several years before earning his trade electrician certification. He worked in the trade for 35 years, mostly at Schultz Electric, and retired in 2007.

In retirement, Michael became an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He made many trips to Sturgis on his Harley. He enjoyed sports, especially the Chiefs and Royals.

An outgoing fellow who never met a stranger, Michael was always the life of any conversation.

He loved spending time with his pets and grandkids, creating lasting memories his family will treasure.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Diane; children, Lindsey Strong (Brandon) and Scott Simpson (Kassandra); grandchildren, Kaleigh and Brett Strong, and Channing and Carter Simpson; several extended family members and friends.

Donna Faye Boswell Boyles passed away peacefully at Lincolnshire Place in Sycamore, Illinois on June 10, 2024 at the age of 91.

Born on February 23, 1933, in New Point, Missouri, to Sterling Fay and Marjorie Frances Buntz Boswell, Donna led a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication. She graduated from New Point High School and pursued Nurses Training in St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1951, she married James Melvin Boyles, a union that spanned nearly 70 years, characterized by unwavering love and companionship.

Donna’s life was a beautiful tapestry of creativity and care. She had a remarkable talent for painting, sewing, quilting, and her flower gardens were always beautiful. She found immense joy in cooking special meals for her family and there were always home baked cookies in the cookie jar.&nbsp;

Donna's love of God showed through her life in her compassion and caring for her family, friends and others. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her surviving children including Sharon Marie LeMaster and husband Larry Woodring of Decatur, Georgia; &nbsp;son James David Boyles of Morrison, Illinois, Brenda Denise Varney and husband Jeff of Bloomington, Illinois; Lora Lee Harold of Sycamore, Illinois; and Jeanette Elaine Stevenson of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Donna took great pride in her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment she spent with them.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; parents, Fay and Marjorie Boswell; and her brother Robert Boswell.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation on June 23 from 11:00 to 12:30 at Chamberlain Funeral Home, 100 West George Street, Oregon, Missouri. A graveside service will follow at 1:00, officiated by Pastor Brian Buck of the New Point Christian Church. Donna will be laid to rest at Cowan New Point Cemetery in New Point, Missouri.

Tammy Lynn Fletchall, 61, of St Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at her home. She was born November 22, 1962 in St. Joseph, daughter of Coralynn and Franklin Smith Sr. 

She attended Savannah High School. In 1980, she married Scott Fletchall. Tammy worked many years as a cook at Betty's Cafe. She loved to cook and was excellent at it. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she was always smiling. 

Tammy was preceded in death by father, Franklin  Smith Sr., husband, Scott Fletchall in 2002, and sister, Connie Wendt.

John Phillip Silvy, 73, Wathena, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

He was born October 21, 1950 in Caldwell, Idaho to Dorrel and Louise (Staudinger) Silvy. John was a graduate of Wathena High School Class of 1969. John served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

After his service, he earned his bachelor’s degree and was an electrical engineer at General Electric for 25 years.

John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the VFW Post 5531 and enjoyed calling Bingo on Thursdays.

Survivors include three brothers; Dorrel (Carolyn), Nova, Robert and six sisters; Ada, Rosemary, Romona (Tom), Kathy, Christine, Patricia (Bill) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hiawatha, KS…..Kay Schmille, 74, longtime Hiawatha resident, went to meet her Lord and Savior June 11, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.

Kay was born February 11, 1950, at Lebanon, Missouri, the daughter of James and Charlene McCoy Williams. She grew up at Lebanon where she attended schools, graduating high school there in 1967.&nbsp;

Kay worked as a receptionist, billing and file clerk for Hiawatha Community Hospital and Family Practice for many years, also for the Brown County Health Department. She was dedicated, trustworthy, enjoyed her work…you could tell as she always had a smile on her face. She worked as a waitress at the Maple Leaf Restaurant where she met her husband Claude. The rest is history! They married in Hiawatha May 31, 1995.

She was a longtime member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Hiawatha and was very active within the Church by serving as treasurer/secretary and was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her husband Claude, her children: Brook Pace, Philip Ingram (Holly); and step-sons Mike Schmille and Ben Schmille (Shannon).

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Brandon Pace, and son Paul Ingram.

A Celebration of Kay’s Eternal Life is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Calvary Temple Assembly of God with Pastor Jim Farris officiating. Cremation will follow services.

Vernon Ottinger, 88, of the Gower area, passed away, June 12, 2024.

He was born on October 28, 1935 to John D. and Virginia (Ruoff) Ottinger in St. Joseph, MO. Vernon grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Central High School.

On September 21, 1963 he was united in marriage to Mildred Obermier. After their marriage they made their home in the Gower area. His wife, Mildred, preceded him in death on February 6, 2021.

Vernon was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Easton. He was a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America. Vernon was a member of the Gower Fire Department Board, an honorary member of East Buchanan FFA, and a member of the Rock House Prairie Cemetery Board. He loved woodworking and collecting model trains and cars. Vernon was a avid KU Basketball Fan.

Vernon was a home builder with his father, and he was a draftsman for the City of St. Joseph. He was a service man in the manufactured housing industry for over 30 years until his retirement.&nbsp;

He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marilyn Littlejohn, and son-in-law, Marty Paxton.

Vernon is survived by his children, Dennis (Sheila) Ottinger, Doug (Christie) Ottinger, Debra Paxton, and Darren (Taunya) Ottinger; grandchildren, Thomas, Kathryn, Johnathan, Duncan, Alyssa, Ethan (Tesla), Emily (Robert), Amanda, Jessica, Olivia, Noah, Alec, Cross, Drake, and Cooper; six great-grandchildren, Gracen, Adalynn, Halle, Amara, Draco, and Avani; brother-in-law, Craig Obermier; sister-in-law, Marjorie Obermier; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Vernon Ottinger 1935 - 2024

Ivy Pauline Spriggs, 59 of Savannah, MO passed away peacefully at KU Medical Center on June 9th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born November 19, 1964 in Waynesboro, PA to Roy Edwin Jr &amp; Catherine Elizabeth (Kelly) Miller. She married “the one that got away” Robert Spriggs in Savannah on October 6th, 2012 and he survives of the home.

Ivy was an everlasting light to those she loved. She was full of adventure and passion in every turn. Ivy never met a stranger; her heart, mind, and arms were always open. She had an outspoken personality that got her through life. Ivy was the rock that held her family together. She was a strong person that fought until the very end. She loved her family more than anything and will be extremely missed. Ivy was an exciting and wonderful mother who was always there when her children needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love. She was a friend and even family to many. Ivy Pauline Spriggs, 59 of Savannah, MO passed away peacefully at KU Medical Center on June 9th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born November 19, 1964 in Waynesboro, PA to Roy Edwin Jr &amp; Catherine Elizabeth (Kelly) Miller. She married “the one that got away” Robert Spriggs in Savannah on October 6th, 2012 and he survives of the home.Ivy was an everlasting light to those she loved. She was full of adventure and passion in every turn. Ivy never met a stranger; her heart, mind, and arms were always open. She had an outspoken personality that got her through life. Ivy was the rock that held her family together. She was a strong person that fought until the very end. She loved her family more than anything and will be extremely missed. Beverly (Bev) Sue Bowyer, 76, passed away peacefully on 06/10/2024 at Benedictine Living Community, in St. Joseph, MO.

Beverly Sue Bowyer enjoyed crafting coasters, attending church, being involved with JAM (after school camp for children), along with other church activities, her passion for family and friends, and supporting those in need. She spent some years going on Mission Trips to various Native American Reservations, and also international mission trips to Mexico, Haiti, and Africa (specifically Kenya) where she helped build schools, a hospital, rebuilt and built churches and took a bucket list trip with husband Larry. She will be remembered for her work in the church, her involvement in her family activities, her passion for helping others, and her crafts.

She was born on 06/16/1947 in Columbus, KS to Lula Mae Pharr (Hurst) and adopted by Ernest “Ernie” Randall and Orpha Elizabeth Randall (Simpson).

Beverly Sue Bowyer is survived by daughters, Janet “Jenni” (Tracy) Barton, Kristin (Matthew) Njoroge; step-daughters, Lara (James) Strube and Amy (Robert) McComb; grandchildren, Gage (Lindsey) Barton , Gabriel Barton, Ann Njoroge and Xavier Njoroge; step-grandchildren, Samantha Strube, Cassandra Strube, and Alicia Strube; great grandchildren, Emma Barton, and Owen Barton; step great-grandchild, Brandilynn Johnson. She graduated from Benton High School, and married George Frisbie on June 26, 1943. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, listening to Elvis, putting puzzles together, and spending time with her family. 

Bessie was preceded in death by husband, George Cleveland Frisbie, her parents, brothers, Robert, James Stubbs, Henry, and Frank Bressman, sisters, Bertha Hershley, Maxine Montgomery, Sarah Morris, son in law, Mike Bonnett, and granddaughter in law, Tina Bonnett.

Jennifer B. (Haynes) Fletchall, 75, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Mosaic Life Care. She was born on June 18, 1948, in Saint Joseph, to the late Virgil “Doc” Haynes and Constance “Connie” (Bullock) Miller.

Jennifer was a 1966 graduate of Savannah High School, where she took pride in being a member of the Glee Club and the Latin Club. After high school, she pursued a fulfilling career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she served as a tax examiner for 17 years until her retirement.

A devout member of Hillcrest Bible Church, Jennifer found joy in attending services and singing in the

church choir. Her passion for the arts was evident through her lifelong participation in local theater productions. She was not only a talented performer but also an enthusiastic supporter of the arts community.

Jennifer's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always cherishing the time spent with her loved ones. Her nurturing spirit extended to animals, with a particular affection for her beloved cats. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rikki Angelique Wade (Brent) and Nicole Ruth Thayne (Eddie); four grandchildren, Corey Henry (Rebecca), Isabel Imlay, Taylor J. Wade, and Bruce Thayne. Jennifer also leaves behind her siblings, Michelle Foutch, Cyndi Haynes, Mark Haynes (Vickie), and Norma Jean Haynes (Eric Easton), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Orval L Miller, stepmother Frances Haynes, and a sister, Fonda Hilton.

Ronald David “Ronnie” Anderson, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024.

He was born December 17, 1941 in Edgerton, Missouri, and was a graduate of Lafayette High School.

Ronnie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and later in the Army National Guard.

He married Betty Bernice Reece on August 11, 1961. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2022.

He owned Aitchison Richmond Plumbing Supply for 25 years.

Ronnie was a member of Aerie 49 Order of the Eagles, of which he was past president three times, Brotherhood Lodge, Scottish Rite Temple, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, Moila Shrine Temple, and American Legion Post 359.

Ronnie enjoyed painting and watching Westerns and crime dramas. He loved spending time with family, especially the grandkids, at the pool and at family get-togethers on the Fourth of July. He was also an animal lover.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty; his parents, William Anderson and Bernice Rowland; sister, Barbara Anderson Hoyt; brother-in-law, George Hoyt; and stepfather, Don Zellars.

Survivors include his children, Brenda Williams (Joe), Ronnie Anderson (Christy); grandchildren, Bill, Brendan, Samantha, Riley and Dylan; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Daniel Haynes Amberg, 91, of Holton, passed away on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 at home.

Daniel was born on Christmas Day 1932 to Jacob Henry Amberg II and Courtenay Dolores Herpin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.&nbsp;

He served in the Navy aboard the USS Walter B. Cobb during the Korean War, attaining the rank of SOG3.

Returning home, Daniel relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked as a draftsman. While in Phoenix, Daniel sang lead with the Ron Patty Gospel Quartet, sharing the stage with well-known artists including the Oak Ridge Boys. They released three albums and had a TV show, Songs Across the Desert. He graduated with a Master’s degree in mathematics from Arizona State University. His teaching career took him to Las Vegas, Nevada from 1969 through 1980.

Daniel continued to teach high school and college math in and around Wrightwood, California until his retirement in 1991. Following his teaching career, he spent a few years seeing the country as an over-the-road truck driver.

Daniel was known for his quick wit, sharp intellect and ready smile. He considered himself a friend to all.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his mother, his father and his brother, Jacob Henry Amberg III.&nbsp;

Survivors include his long-time companion Kristi Adams, and his children, Sherry Kirkpatrick (David), Edmond Oklahoma, Daniel S. Amberg, Phoenix, Arizona, Jennifer Amberg (Marcus), Palm Springs, California and Stephanie Amberg-Brown (Omer), Apple Valley, California.

Other survivors include his niece Cathy Reineke, Cushing Oklahoma, Jack Amberg, Yukon, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church of Holton on Friday, June 14th, at 2:30 p.m. &nbsp;The service will be preceded by a luncheon at 1:00 p.m. at the church. &nbsp;Burial with military honors will follow the service in the Holton Cemetery.

John William Ledford, 77, of Kansas City, MO passed away June 10, 2024.

He was born on June 24, 1946, to William Wallace Ledford, Sr., and Maxine Elizabeth (McKinely) Ledford in Kansas City, MO. In 1964 he graduated from Park Hill High School.&nbsp;

John was united in marriage to Norma Gene Clark in 1963. After their marriage they lived in Platte County where they raised their family and made their home. John started his career at Missouri Pacific Railroad which later became Union Pacific Railroad where he retired in 2008.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #120, the Moila Shriners in St. Joseph, MO and he was a member of the Holiday Rambler RV Club for over 40 years. John enjoyed being outdoors, which included gardening, hunting, fishing, riding mules and he was an avid animal lover. John was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa and loved spending time with his family.&nbsp;

John was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Maxine Ledford, his brother Billy Ledford and his daughter Lori Simmons. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Ledford; his son Dan Ledford and wife Paula; grandchildren Cari Klein and husband Justin, Sara Drennan and husband Tyler, Amie Ledford, and Kayla Vaughan and husband Colin; great-grandchildren Taylor, Tristin, Declyn, and Josie; other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

John William Ledford, 77, of Kansas City, MO passed away June 10, 2024.He was born on June 24, 1946, to William Wallace Ledford, Sr., and Maxine Elizabeth (McKinely) Ledford in Kansas City, MO. In 1964 he graduated from Park Hill High School.&nbsp;John was united in marriage to Norma Gene Clark in 1963. After their marriage they lived in Platte County where they raised their family and made their home. John started his career at Missouri Pacific Railroad which later became Union Pacific Railroad where he retired in 2008.He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #120, the Moila Shriners in St. Joseph, MO and he was a member of the Holiday Rambler RV Club for over 40 years. John enjoyed being outdoors, which included gardening, hunting, fishing, riding mules and he was an avid animal lover. John was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa and loved spending time with his family.&nbsp;John was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Maxine Ledford, his brother Billy Ledford and his daughter Lori Simmons. Barbara J. Hundley, 75, of Atchison, Kansas died June 8, 2024, at Mosaic Life in St. Joseph, Mo.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30am, Saturday, June 15, 2024, St. Benedict Catholic Church, Atchison, Kansas, with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Atchison. A rosary will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 at 6:00pm, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with visitation following till 8pm.

Barbara was born October 8, 1948, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Frederick and Marceline (Compton) Zabel. 

She married Leonard Hundley on September 12, 1981, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2023. She was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in her garden, raising flowers, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Nicole (Paul) Howard, granddaughter, Emily Howard and sister Jacqueline (Gary) Pauley. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Kenneth Lance Hart 35, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 in St. Joseph, MO. He was born January 24, 1989 in St. Joseph, son of Tracy Bryant and Dale Hart.

 He graduated from Lafayette High School, and worked in maintenance at Clarios. He loved riding motorcycles, and was a member of KC Sport Bike Society and former member of Wind Therapy. Lance also enjoyed fishing, camping, and 3D printing. He was creative and a jack of all trades.

Darrel Sun Brown 38, of St. Joseph, MO., passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024 in St. Joseph. He was born February 21, 1986 in St. Joseph, son of Un Suk &amp; Darrel Brown. 

He graduated from Benton High School and worked at Garbology trash service. Darrel served in the United States Air Force for 3 years. He enjoyed the Kansas City Chiefs, playing corn hole, darts, and pool, canoe trips, and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and his kids. His family was his life. 

Darrel is survived by his parents, sons, Preston Brown and Bryndan Brown, companion, Lauren Beaver and her children, Jayden, Emilynn, and Jezlyn all of St. Joseph, MO., sister, Jennifer (Bobby) Larson of St. Joseph, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Friday at Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services 10:00 am Saturday June 15, 2024 at the Rupp Funeral Home, preacher Greg McCurley officiating. The interment will be at the Ashland Cemetery.

Darrel Sun Brown 1986 - 2024

Alvin Frayer, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024.

He was born on March 7, 1947, to Ernest and Janet (Laurence) Frayer in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Alvin proudly served for the United States Navy.

On February 13, 1969, he married Susan Lorraine Kepner. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this year.

He spent 38 years working as a lineman for the city of St. Joseph until his retirement.

Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching M.A.S.H. He also loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Richard Frayer; and his son, Alvin Frayer Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; daughter, Karrie Foster; siblings, Sarah Levret and Robert Frayer; grandchildren, Michael (Jesse) Foster and Maleia Foster; and great grandchildren, Avery, Harlee and Gracelyn.

Betty Lou Muff, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024.

She was born July 21, 1938 in Island City, Missouri to Marion and Daisy (McCoury) Womach. She rode her horse named Barney to school.

Betty married Lee Roy Muff on May 29, 1975. He survives of the home.

She previously worked at Shady Lawn and Ramada Inn before starting her own daycare, which she operated for 39 years.

Betty was a longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she was a greeter for 38 years.

Betty loved to crochet, and enjoyed traveling and camping, including trips to Branson, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore and the Great Smoky Mountains. She also liked Hallmark movies and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Mary Jo Miller and Lloyd Gene Womach.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Lee Roy; son, Travis Muff; nieces, nephews and other extended family; family friend Jonna; and her granddogs, Molly, Sadie and Midnight.

Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, Eastside Baptist Church. Interment Savannah Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
