Ruth Ann “Susie” Nance, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully with her daughter and grandson by her side on Monday, August 25, 2025.
She was born April 26, 1943 in Bethany, Missouri to Charles and Opal (Hagler) Curtis. Ruth attended Lafayette High School and was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church.
Ruth married Larry Milton Nance on January 10, 1960. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2011.
Ruth worked at Quaker Oats for 35½ years until it closed in addition to other jobs.
Ruth loved country music, knitting and crocheting, cooking, gardening and doing yardwork. In her early years she enjoyed showing quarter horses.
During Larry’s motorcycle drag racing days in the 1960s, she was his “right-hand man” at every race. She kept that energy throughout her life, always on the go.
Most of all, Ruth loved her family and grandchildren very much.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; son, Larry Ray Nance; grandson, Shannon Nance; her parents; stepfather, Joe Thompson; mother-in-law, Vera Morris; father-in-law, Milton Nance; and stepfather-in-law, Charlie Morris; and niece, Stacy Curtis.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Burris (Jimmy); grandchildren, Elliott Burris and Ronnie R. Nance (Ashley); five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sherry Nance; siblings, Charles Robert Curtis, his wife, Earleen, and their children, Robin Jenkins (Thad), Shelly Garland (Matt), Chuck Curtis (Sammi Kaye) and their children Annie Curtis (Travis) and their children, and Lachelle Schmitt and her children, David and Alicia Cook-Bleymehl (Michael), and Eddie Curtis, his wife, Cathy, and their children, Tricia Curtis Price (Matt) and their children, Kailee and Connor, and Megan Curtis Cook (Matt) and their children; brother-in-law, Ronnie L. Nance and his daughter, Lisa Menchiek (Steve); stepsisters, Melody Campbell, Diane Dawson, Betsy Steidel, Vickie Parisoff, and Nancy Cole; and stepsisters-in-law, Kathy Hope Block, Mary Ann Eikel and their children.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
