Linda G. Burton, 68, Amazonia, Missouri; passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at a local hospital.

Linda was born on February 11, 1955 in Corning, Iowa to the late Jim Whited and Wanda Norris.

Linda was a caretaker for private home healthcare for over twenty years. She was also a devoted wife and mother.

Linda enjoyed sewing, the outdoors, horseback riding, auctions, estate and garage sales and any deal she could find.

Linda married Terry Burton, he survives her of the home.

Additional survivors include children, Brian Richardson (Dianna), Jason Richardson, Jody Tackett, Joshua Tackett, Lacy Noble and Chasity Reital; twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and her sister, Sharon Martin.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Burton has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel. Inurnment at Bolckow Cemetery at a later date.

Terry Kline, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023.

She was born on August 3, 1941, to Elmer David and Armenta Mae (Roach) Holmes in Worth, Missouri.

Terry married Lawrence “Larry” Richard Kline on March 1, 1958, and they shared 63 years together.

She graduated at the top of her class from Hillyard Technical in 1971 and pursued a degree in nursing. She spent several years as a homemaker.

Terry enjoyed leading women’s bible studies in her home and was a member of the McCarthy Baptist Church for sixty years. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Veteran Railway Employees and the St. Joseph Garden Club. She especially enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb.

She was preceded in death by her parent; her husband, Larry; brothers, Clarence Holmes, Roger Holmes, Sam Holmes and Archie Holmes; and sisters, Martha Farris, Evelyn Myres, Zelma Attebury, Nancy Parelius and Ruth Goff.

Survivors include her sons, Mark Kline (Janet) of Cameron, MO and Keith Kline (Jennifer) of Osborn, MO; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Patsy L. Miller, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023.

She was born May 3, 1941 in St. Joseph to Jacob and Helen (Malloy) Parr.

Patsy worked for nearly 30 years at E.O.C., then at Quaker Oats.

She was a member of Eastern Star and was named Miss Moose in 1956. She also volunteered for the Special Olympics and Food Kitchen.

Patsy loved going to garage sales and estate sales, and enjoyed reading. She loved her church family at New Home Baptist Church.

She was a good cook, drawing the family together for barbecued chicken and creamed peas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include her children, Randy Brown (Amy), Rick Brown (Laurie), Cindy Hieb (Kevin), Shelly Brown, Kelly Brown, Robert Brown, Tracy Messner (Shane), and J.R. Long (Shelley); 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Parr (Sharon); numerous extended family members; lifelong best friend, Linda Warner; and numerous beloved cats.

She was born February 28, 1936 to Gerald and Frances (Stoltz) Carolus in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Jean graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart in 1954 and attended Duchesne College in Omaha, Nebraska.

She married Edward Curry September 15, 1956.

She worked at her family-owned business, Jerre-Anne’s Cafeteria &amp; Bakery and later became a co-owner.

She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

Jean was a devoted and loving mother to her children, especially caring for Chuck after his car accident in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Frances Carolus; infant twin sister, Joan Carolus; sister, Geraldine Lawhon; 2 infant great grandchildren.

Robert “Bob” Orene Clemens, Sr., 80, Gallatin, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023.

He was born June 13, 1942 to Orene Clifton and Marion Janet (Swan) Clemens in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Bob graduated from Benton High School in 1960 and later earned his Master’s in Education and Administration.

He was employed with the St. Joseph School District as a teacher, coach, and administrator for 32 years which included being a principal at Spring Garden Middle School, activities coordinator and an assistant principal at Benton High School.

Bob married Frances Josephine Werner January 12, 1962.

He proudly served in the United States Navy for 28 years.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orene Clemens and Marion Baker; daughter, Lorelie Michelle; son, Robert Orene Clemens, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of the home; children, Steven (Dee) Clemens, Daniel (Allison) Clemens, Rick Lawhon, Deborah (Mark) Genereaux, and Rhonda (John) Knetter, Jackie (Hope) Sisk; brother, Jerry (Brenda) Clemens; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert "Bob" Orene Clemens, Sr. 1942 - 2023

Rebecca (Becky) Johnson, 85, of Leavenworth, Kansas, died February 26, 2023, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be postponed until May 2023, details to be announced.

Becky was born January 17, 1938 in Montclair, New Jersey, daughter of T. Lester and Constance Swander. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas, when Becky was very young, and in her heart, she always considered herself a Texan. After graduating Thomas Alva Edison High School in San Antonio, she attended the University of Kansas, where she received a BA in Liberal Arts and fell in love with Paul Johnson, whom she married in 1962.

While Paul was in the Navy stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, Becky was a social worker, serving the Charleston and Gullah communities, an experience that moved her deeply and remained with her always.

Becky and Paul moved to Leavenworth in 1965, where they remained. Becky put her social work training to use by starting a daycare center at Leavenworth's YWCA and volunteering at the women's state prison. She also volunteered with the Picture Lady program in Leavenworth public schools, visiting elementary school classrooms to introduce children to famous works of art.

In the early 1970s, Becky discovered a passion for working in clay, first sculpture and then ceramics. She earned a BA in Fine Arts and MFA in Art History from the University of Kansas. She taught art history at Park University in Parkville, Missouri; Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas; Kansas City Community College's Leavenworth campus; and at the U.S. Penitentiary.

In 1986, Becky co-founded the Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth's old Carnegie library building. With a small staff and many dedicated volunteers, the arts center offered art instruction and exhibits to the Leavenworth community for over 20 years.

In retirement, Becky volunteered as a driver and night-shelter assistant for the Interfaith Community of Hope and Welcome Central. She enjoyed throwing pots and selling her pottery at the Northland Artists' Gallery in Weston, Missouri, and at the Leavenworth Farmers' Market. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for 57 years and served as Senior Warden on the vestry. She also served on the board of Leavenworth Attainable Housing and had many friends in the community through her involvement with PEO and the Whittier Club.

Becky is preceded in death by Paul, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by her sister, Susan Brown; by her children and daughters-in-law, Carl Johnson (Mary Beth), Sarah Johnson, Eric Johnson (Heather); by her grandchildren, Logan Bruce, Paul Johnson, Teresa Johnson, Emma Johnson, and Grace Bruce Johnson; and by her many beloved nieces and nephews.

Maysville, Missouri…Jimmy Wayne Bryant went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2023. Prior to his passing, he was surrounded by his family and friends at his home in Maysville, Missouri.

Jim was born in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, on May 20, 1962, and was raised in the loving home of Morris and Mert Carpenter. He attended Mt. Ayr High School and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science from Missouri Western State University.

He married Edith Elaine Fletchall on June 19, 1982, in Grant City, Missouri, and to this union Ashton Bryant of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Taylor Bryant of Plattsburg, Missouri, were born. He has four grandchildren: Ceciela, Sabrina, Nicholas, and Nevaeh Minear, as well as seven angel-baby grandchildren who he looks forward to meeting in Heaven.

Jim worked with computers most of his life and was the owner and operator of B &amp; B Business Solutions for several years. He retired from Missouri Western State University as a computer technician. He enjoyed coaching baseball and football for his son’s youth teams, as well as watching his kids play multiple sports and yelling from the sidelines. He was a devout Chiefs fan and was able to enjoy this year’s Super Bowl win. Another passion he had was working on home improvement projects. He was an avid reader and loved watching movies with his family.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Donald and Juanita Sevier, Lionel and Luella Carpenter, and seven angel-baby grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Maysville, Missouri; his daughter, Ashton (Steven Cardwell); his son Taylor (Heaven) Bryant; and leaves behind four grandchildren; his parents Morris and Mert Carpenter of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; brother Kenny (Kim) Bryant; sister Donna Ross; step-sister Dorothy Ann (Kenton) Reed; two step-brothers, Cal (Debbie) Carpenter and Speedy (Karla) Carpenter, along with several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;He will also be missed by his two loving labs, Shadow and Shylah.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Missouri Western State University, Blum 218-219, 4525 Downs Drive, St. Joseph, Missouri. His remains will be spread over the Colorado mountainside.

Prior to his passing, he was surrounded by his family and friends at his home in Maysville, Missouri.Jim was born in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, on May 20, 1962, and was raised in the loving home of Morris and Mert Carpenter. He attended Mt. Ayr High School and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science from Missouri Western State University.He married Edith Elaine Fletchall on June 19, 1982, in Grant City, Missouri, and to this union Ashton Bryant of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Taylor Bryant of Plattsburg, Missouri, were born. He has four grandchildren: Ceciela, Sabrina, Nicholas, and Nevaeh Minear, as well as seven angel-baby grandchildren who he looks forward to meeting in Heaven.Jim worked with computers most of his life and was the owner and operator of B &amp; B Business Solutions for several years. He retired from Missouri Western State University as a computer technician. He enjoyed coaching baseball and football for his son’s youth teams, as well as watching his kids play multiple sports and yelling from the sidelines. He was a devout Chiefs fan and was able to enjoy this year’s Super Bowl win. Another passion he had was working on home improvement projects. He was an avid reader and loved watching movies with his family.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Donald and Juanita Sevier, Lionel and Luella Carpenter, and seven angel-baby grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Maysville, Missouri; his daughter, Ashton (Steven Cardwell); his son Taylor (Heaven) Bryant; and leaves behind four grandchildren; his parents Morris and Mert Carpenter of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; brother Kenny (Kim) Bryant; sister Donna Ross; step-sister Dorothy Ann (Kenton) Reed; two step-brothers, Cal (Debbie) Carpenter and Speedy (Karla) Carpenter, along with several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;He will also be missed by his two loving labs, Shadow and Shylah.A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Missouri Western State University, Blum 218-219, 4525 Downs Drive, St. Joseph, Missouri. His remains will be spread over the Colorado mountainside.

Charles Squire Connett, 79, of St Joseph, MO passed away February 27, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Charles (Charlie) Connett was the son of Edgar Leonard Connett and Edna (Lewis) Connett, both now deceased. He grew up on the family farm 7 miles south of St. Joseph and 3 miles north of Faucett. He had two older brothers: Franklin Gilmore (b. 1933), now deceased, and John Connett (b. 1941), Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. Charlie attended Sparta School, a one-room school south of St. Joseph, for six years. When Sparta was closed in 1955, Charlie went to Buchanan County RV Consolidated School in Faucett, graduating from high school in 1961. Charlie then attended Missouri Western, then the University of Missouri, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree from UM’s highly regarded School of Journalism in Columbia.

Charlie joined the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years in the 1960s. He served on the aircraft carriers USS Essex, Yorktown, and Randolph. His tour in the Navy included port calls to ports in France, Canary Islands, Italy, Greece and other European sites, Brazil, Boston, Providence, Norfolk, and the Great Lakes station in Chicago. He worked primarily in communications, attaining the rank of Petty Officer.

After his service in the Navy, Charlie had several jobs that included newspaper reporting in Amarillo, Kingman (Arizona), Kansas City, and Cedar Rapids. He also worked as a filing clerk for a law firm in Kansas City. He worked for 17 years at the Walmart store on the north Belt. For several years he served as a volunteer for Second Harvest Heartland, assembling food packages to needy families in St. Joseph; also for Meals on Wheels and Backpack Buddies. He was named in a St. Joseph Citizens Award for his charitable work.&nbsp;

Beginning in about 2015, Charlie had a series of illnesses, an ankle replacement operation, and a cardiac operation, which caused him to retire from Walmart. In 2020, he took up residence at Country Squire, a retirement community on the east side of St. Joseph, and made several friendships there.

Charlie was outgoing and gregarious, and had many friends from high school, from Second Harvest Heartland, from other residents at Country Squire, and among people he knew at the Farris truck stop in Faucett. An especially close and very helpful friend was his first cousin, Richard Williams, of Lake Waukomis north of Kansas City.&nbsp;

Charlie experienced a steep decline in strength and health in the fall of 2022, and in January of 2023 moved to Carriage Square, a nursing and rehab facility not far from Country Squire. He was recently diagnosed with an unfortunate case of severe pneumonia, which led to his death at Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph.

Charlie’s passions in life included 1960s rock music, politics, comics in the newspaper, and pork tenderloin sandwiches. He will be remembered and sadly missed by family and co-workers and friends who came to know him. A memorial fund in his honor will be established with Second Harvest Heartland in St. Joseph.

Paul Ignatius Harris, 74, Atchison, Kansas died Monday, February 27, 2023, at his residence with his wife and 4 children at his side.&nbsp;

Con-Celebrated Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, at St. Benedict Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. A parish rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the Mass. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, March 2nd&nbsp;from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Paul will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to St. Benedict Parish, St. Benedict Catholic School, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, or St. Benedict’s Abbey. Paul has been cremated under the care and direction of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul was born June 7, 1948, in Spalding, Nebraska, the son of Charles Joseph and Frances Mary (Curran) Harris.&nbsp; He attended St. Benedict’s elementary school in Atchison and then Maur Hill Prep School where he graduated in 1966.&nbsp; He continued his education at St. Benedict’s College (now Benedictine College) in Atchison, KS graduating in 1970.&nbsp;

Paul and Mary Kay Sittenauer were united in marriage on June 7, 1969, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Atchison, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Paul worked at Atchison Hospital while attending college, taught Mathematics for 1 semester at Benedictine College after his graduation, and then began working in construction where he eventually owned and operated Harris Construction from 1977 until 2022 in Atchison.&nbsp;He served with the Army National Guard from 1970 until 1976.&nbsp;

Paul was a social man known for helping people out, especially the Church and his children on house projects. He was a hard worker who spent his time raising tobacco on his farm and woodworking including designing and building the home where&nbsp;he and his wife have resided. &nbsp;He was an active member of St. Benedict Parish. He was formerly a member of Knights of Columbus Council #723, the St. Benedict Parish Council, and the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion and was a scout master of Troop #53 of the Boy Scouts. He was an active worker and supporter of the Forest of Friendship where he spent many summers installing the stones in the walkway.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Harris, Atchison, KS; a daughter, Sarah (Charlie) Peitsch, Atchison, KS; three sons, Jeff Harris, Westwood, KS; Brian (Marla) Harris, Atchison, KS; David (Jackie) Harris, Atchison, KS; two sisters, Anne Harris, Grand Island, NE; Mary Christensen, Lincoln, NE; two brothers, Michael Harris, Atchison, KS; Edward Harris, Duluth, GA; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one on the way.&nbsp;

Harry Edward Mueller, 97, passed away February 25, 2023, in St. Joseph, MO., where he was born March 13, 1925 and raised by his late uncle and aunt John and Mary (Luebe) Tuschick.

While attending Lafayette High School he was known as 'Jack Tuschick' and loved playing basketball. During his senior year and with WWII continuing and his 18th birthday approaching he decided to enlist. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to his hometown and met and married Sara Atwood on July 20, 1946 and were married for 59 years until her death in 2005.

Harry was a proud Navy Veteran. He served with the Armed Guard which was established in an attempt to provide defensive firepower to merchant ships in convoy or traveling alone. This was done because of the constant danger and shortage of escort vessels necessary to provide the merchant vessels with adequate protection. After graduating the 8 week basic training in Farragut ID he was sent to San Diego for gunnery school then to Treasure Island for orders and back to San Diego where they boarded the SS Robert G Ingersoll and were sent to Hobart, Tasmania where they spent the night. The next morning they left for Karachi, India then onto Bombay to receive further orders. These orders lead them to Calcutta with 500 pound bombs in cargo. After unloading the bomb shipment their ship then traveled empty through the Mediterranean onto Brooklyn, NY where they received shore leave with orders to be back at Treasure Island within 21 days. From Treasure Island they went again to San Diego and from there to Melbourne, Australia then back to Calcutta where they unloaded their cargo of ammunition, rifles, bombs, etc. With no cargo, on the Ida M Tarbell they were sent to Durban, East Africa where they loaded the ship with coal. The coal was delivered to Rio de Janeiro where they stayed for 10 days and were allowed to be off ship. He enjoyed his time there and was very proud of his photograph at the foot of Christ the Redeemer along with 5 other shipmates. The ship then moved to Santos, Brazil where coffee beans were loaded and they headed back to Brooklyn, NY and another leave was given with orders to be back at Treasure Island within 21 days. During his cross country leaves he always stopped in St. Joseph before heading back to the west coast. After returning, they were put on a tanker (the Mission Carmel) and left San Francisco heading towards Tabogon, Philippines. This was the first of three trips to this area. After completing their duties there they returned to San Francisco where they were put on 12 destroyers positioned in the shape of the hands on a clock. His ship was in the 7 o'clock position. The 13th destroyer was in the middle with the Commodore on board. They were headed to Japan when he witnessed a torpedo miss the front of his ship. Tears would come to his eyes when he told this story. After Japan they came back to the states, his duty was complete and he was discharged in February 1946. He then married and they raised two daughters while he worked at DH Schmidt Carriage Company retiring in 1987.

Dad was always full of energy always having some type of project going on. He enjoyed being a member of the Benton High School Boosters in the 1960s building a concession stand and helping to raise money for a new scoreboard. He was a life-time member and past Post Commander with VFW#5531 in Wathena, Ks in the 1980s. After selling his home of 64 years he moved to Assisted Living where his mind never slowed down from continued projects including wanting flowers planted outside to building an 8 foot long workbench in his apartment at Living Community, to asking us to take him somewhere and then somehow convince us to go buy tools, having his favorite female barber, Brittany, that he would only go to, his favorite girlfriend (Alysse) at LC, his favorite Liz (he called her) that did everything he asked for, giving us lists of things to get at the store but always seemed to forget a few so we had to go back, told us how to drive and the route to take, and only wearing certain sweats and tee shirts although he had a closet full. He loved visiting when Hospice came and he could see Heidi and Missie and he ate pop corn and Diet Coke regularly. Everything had to be his way when he wanted it and we all conformed. His favorite inside pastime was putting together jig saw puzzles then gluing and framing them. We have 92 (18 by 24) framed puzzles that he enjoyed completing. He would always comment how hard the puzzle was and before we knew it he had it together (with a little unknown help from the staff).

Harry was preceded in death by wife, Sara Ruth (Atwood) Mueller, his uncle and aunt (Dad and Mom) who raised him, his biological parents Robert "Roy" Raymond Mueller and Lucy M. (Tuschick) Mueller McAfee, his only sibling, Robert Lee Mueller and son-in-law Larry Danner.

Survivors include daughters, Pat Danner, and Sandi (Dwayne) Bressem, grandchildren: Staci (Pete) Gray, Randy (Tisha) Baker, Rachelle (Basil) Grippando and Tim (Julee) Danner and great grandchildren Zach, Alec and Mitch Gray; Ryan, Cameron and Tanner Baker; Kaylie (Nate) and Jayda Grippando and Jacob and Kaitlynn Danner.

In addition to thanking Lisa and Alysse and Mosaic Hospice, we thank and will never forget the special loving care given by Bene and Daniel in Dad's final hours.

Harry Edward Mueller 1925 - 2023

Stanley Emil Gabriel 80, of Agency, MO, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023 at Mosaic Life Care in Saint Joseph. He was born April 23, 1942 in Agency, Missouri, son of Elizabeth &amp; Emil Gabriel. 

He married Norma (Ruark) Gabriel on May 1, 1964 in St. Joseph, and they shared 58 years together. He graduated from Faucett High School, Class of 1960. Stanley worked at Mead Products for 34 years, was a proud farmer and was a Bulldozer Operator for most his life. He enjoyed hard work, gardening, and watching old westerns. He was a member of Hillcrest Bible Church. 

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Elizabeth Gabriel, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gabriel.

Stanley Emil Gabriel 80, of Agency, MO, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023 at Mosaic Life Care in Saint Joseph. He was born April 23, 1942 in Agency, Missouri, son of Elizabeth &amp; Emil Gabriel. He married Norma (Ruark) Gabriel on May 1, 1964 in St. Joseph, and they shared 58 years together. He graduated from Faucett High School, Class of 1960. Stanley worked at Mead Products for 34 years, was a proud farmer and was a Bulldozer Operator for most his life. He enjoyed hard work, gardening, and watching old westerns. He was a member of Hillcrest Bible Church. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Elizabeth Gabriel, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gabriel. Darold Ray Younger, 65, St. Joseph, Missouri, entered Heaven to cast his crown at the feet of Jesus, his Lord and Savior, Saturday, February 25, 2023.

He was born December 14, 1957 to Walter Jr. and Amelia R. (Aughinbaugh) Younger in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He graduated from Central High School in 1976 and then continued his education at Platte Community College.

Darold married Julene Marie Dahle on November 21, 2003.

He proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force Reserve.

He was a member of Restoration Church, Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), member of Carpenter’s L.U. #1529, and Elliott’s Scouts where he did Civil War reenactments. He was a past President of Fraternal Order of Eagles #49 and he also served as a State Trustee of the Missouri Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Darold had the mind of an engineer and was the ultimate craftsman. He enjoyed motorcycling, traveling, watching Chiefs games and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Jr. and Amelia Younger.

Survivors include his wife, Julene Younger of the home; children, Travis Drabek (Noelle), Heather Younger, Raymond Younger (Jaimie), Zannah Lewis (Curtis), Evony Tsovilis, Harrison Borske (Jude) and Justin Brookshire; 17 grandchildren; siblings, James W. Younger (Barbie Small) and Barbara Younger Heinrichs.

David William Gates, age 79, of Winchester, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26,
 2023, at his home with his wife and son by his side. He was born March 
7, 1943, in Leavenworth at St. John’s Hospital, the son of Michael and 
Emma (Zelfer) Gates of Winchester, Kan. 
On April 16, 1966, David married Donna Teel at St. Lawrence Church in 
Easton, Kan. David and Donna had their one son, Donald Gates in 1977. 
David Graduated from Maur Hill Prep School in Atchison, Kan. in 1960. 
He was a farmer for his entire life. He also worked to install Fire 
Sprinklers for Century Fire Sprinklers for over 40 years. Even after 
retirement, David continued to work the family farm. He enjoyed tractor 
pulls, farm auctions, NASCAR and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael; mother and 
father-in-law, Donald and Gwynetha Teel; two brothers-in-law, Clarence 
Ruhlman and Larry Giller; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Teel. 
David is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Donald (Shawnee, Kan.); 
sisters, MaryMargret Ruhlman (Prairie Village Kan.) and Virginia Giller 
(Manhattan, Kan.); brother, Leslie Gates; sister-in-law, Barbara Gates

Walter Huffman Morris, 98, died January 11, surrounded by his children at his home near Parkville, Mo following a brief illness.&nbsp;

Walt was born September 27, 1924 in Kansas City, Mo to Walter Herman and Lyda Jane Morris. He began school there but the family soon moved to southwest Missouri where they lived throughout the depression. He attended school in several towns, eventually settling in Springfield where he graduated from Central High School. He went on to Draughons Business College. Walt soon joined the WWII Navy. He was a proud veteran who served over two years in the South Pacific as a signalman second class. &nbsp;

In 1947 Walt married Laura Dee Stotler, a partnership that would last 65 years. They had two children, Steve and Connie.&nbsp;

He worked as a district credit manager for Hotpoint &amp; General Electric appliance divisions from 1956 until retirement in 1984. They moved to Lake of the Ozarks but after four years returned to the Parkville, Mo area to be closer to both of their mothers. Walt traded his fishing hobby for woodworking. For several years he supplied a local bird center with bird houses and feeders. Following his wife’s death, Walt decided to downsize his living arrangements. He moved to the Riverstone Retirement Community where he lived for several years. Never having met a stranger Walt made many new friends. He enjoyed their poker games, bowling tournaments, and companionship.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Walt was a member of the Parkhill Christian Church beginning in 1956. That remained an important part of his life.&nbsp;

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, and older sister Burnetta, one granddaughter Paige Morris, and many beloved members of his extended family.&nbsp;

He is survived by his son Steve (Joan)of Fulton, Mo; his daughter Connie Hey (Gary) of Kansas City; four grandsons Chad Hey (Leah), Chris Hey (Tara), Tyler Hey, Sam Morris (Karen); one granddaughter Claire (Bob Breedlove); and six great grandchildren Tucker Hey, Kiernan Hey, Carter Hey, Hudson Hey, Breelynn Hey, and Kendall Morris, and great granddaughter Amelia Eden.&nbsp;

The Troy community sadly lost a treasured educator when Martha-Jean Rockey, age 74, died Sunday morning, February 26, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Born to Alferd and Jean (Fraser) Zimmerman on Nov. 13, 1948, Martha-Jean graduated from Troy High School in 1966 and then earned a BA in English from Kansas State University. She accepted a position teaching English at Troy High School in 1974 and taught there for 42 years. She also took on the responsibilities through the years of directing plays, coaching the forensics team, sponsoring the school newspaper and yearbook, and leading T-Club. She retired from teaching in 2016.

Martha-Jean was passionate about her work with young people. She took great pride in preparing her students for college or for whatever lay ahead for them after high school. The 66 plays and musicals she directed were always memorable, well-attended productions. Her students won numerous awards and honors, and many consider her to be an important mentor in their lives. “I will always be one of ‘Mrs. Rockey’s kids,’” said one of her former students.

Lyle “Mick” Rockey, her husband of 53 years, was Martha-Jean’s supporter and companion in life. He survives of the home. Activities they enjoyed together include traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad, attending movies and plays, spending time with friends, caring for their pets, reading, and gardening. Martha-Jean also belonged to several organizations, including the SLK and teachers’ groups. She helped plan and carry out community events and played the piano for local churches and various ceremonies.

Martha-Jean was awarded the USD 429 Master Teacher of the Year in 1998-1999. In 2017, the school district named the Troy High School original gym/auditorium in honor of Martha-Jean and Mick, who also taught and coached in USD 429.

Left to mourn Martha-Jean’s passing are her husband, cousins Linda and Jim Griggs and family and Debra and Jim Ewing and family, many other family members, as well as her numerous students, colleagues, and friends.

Activities they enjoyed together include traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad, attending movies and plays, spending time with friends, caring for their pets, reading, and gardening. Martha-Jean also belonged to several organizations, including the SLK and teachers’ groups. She helped plan and carry out community events and played the piano for local churches and various ceremonies.Martha-Jean was awarded the USD 429 Master Teacher of the Year in 1998-1999. In 2017, the school district named the Troy High School original gym/auditorium in honor of Martha-Jean and Mick, who also taught and coached in USD 429.Left to mourn Martha-Jean’s passing are her husband, cousins Linda and Jim Griggs and family and Debra and Jim Ewing and family, many other family members, as well as her numerous students, colleagues, and friends.Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Chad R. Dreyer, 43 of Savannah passed away on Friday, February 24th, 2023. He was born on October 27th, 1979 to Jim &amp; Karen (Helsley) Dreyer. He married Catina Green in Savannah, MO on February 14, 2007.

Chad was a 1998 graduate of Savannah High School. He was a lifelong Savage. He played football and graduated with a degree in Administration from MWSU before playing indoor football for the St. Joseph Explorers. Chad attended NWMSU for graduate classes to attain his teaching degree and Masters in Administration. Chad joined the Savannah R-3 school district as a physical education teacher at Minnie Cline elementary. Chad coached and served as assistant principal at SHS before becoming the activities director. He also coached high school football at North Platte for 3 seasons. Chad loved God, family, friends, students, and the Savannah Savages. He dedicated his life to the students and serving this community. Chad thoroughly enjoyed coaching the youth of Savannah in basketball and football.

 He loved hunting and fishing. Chad had a voracious appetite for life and food, especially if it was wrapped in bacon. He could find food anywhere. He loved animals and had only met one dog who didn't like him (Cardi you know who you are). Chad loved to hate dark green (you know why), so he only reluctantly attended classes "up North". Chad was an outstanding husband, father, and son. He never met a stranger and was gifted with a fantastic sense of humor. Chad made a bucket list early in his life of adventures that were important to him. Chad made time for hunting and fishing trips and learned from his father's passing that tomorrow is never guaranteed, he did not hesitate to fulfill his dreams. Chad will be missed beyond measure by his wife, his boys, his family, and this community.

Survivors include his wife, Catina Dreyer of Savannah; sons, Corbin, Kellen, and Kingston all of Savannah; mother Karen Dreyer, St. Joseph, brother, Wes (Amber) Miller of Bonner Springs, KS; sister, Tracey (Tony) Gonzales of Houston, TX, in-laws Jim Green and Fran McClain of St. Joseph, MO, numerous nieces nephews, and beloved friends.&nbsp; Chad was preceded in death by his father, Jim Ray Dreyer.

Memorial visitation will be held 5:00 pm-8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 28th, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Savannah. Karen Elaine Miller, 70 of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday February 23rd, 2023 in St Lukes Hospice House in Kansas City while being comforted by family. Karen was born March 20th, 1952 to Paul and Mary (Grimes) Miller in St. Joseph, MO.

After graduating from Cameron High School in 1970 and earning her degree from Missouri Western State College in 1974, Karen went on to have a successful career, most notably as a project manager for Sprint.

Karen loved to attend social events with family and friends, and always lit up the room with her humor and wit.&nbsp; She was a member of the KC Croppers and the Red Hat Society.&nbsp; She enjoyed scrapbooking, bunco, loving on her dogs over the years (Molly, Fritzi, and Ritzi), watching Ben’s basketball games, and last but not least, eating pie!&nbsp; A phrase Karen would often say is “It’s a Happy Thing!”&nbsp; Karen was truly a great friend to so many and was always able to put a smile on the faces of anyone around her.&nbsp; Karen’s presence was, as she said it best, a Happy Thing!! She will be deeply missed by countless family and friends.

Karen is survived by her brother, Wayne (Sammilyn) Miller of Cameron MO; Aunt, Marge Cerinich of Longmont, CO; Nephew, Ben (Markeda) Miller of Kansas City MO; great nephew Ben Miller II; great niece; Aliyah Miller; and too many cousins and close friends to list.

Jean Louise Keene, 75, of Saint Joseph, MO, passed away peacefully on February 24th, 2023, in the comfort of her home.&nbsp;

Jean Louise Keene, 75, of Saint Joseph, MO, passed away peacefully on February 24th, 2023, in the comfort of her home.&nbsp;Jean was born on January 24th, 1948, in Saint Joseph, MO, to Hensley and Lois (Richards) Harper.&nbsp;Jean married Michael “Mike” Keene on August 26, 1966, and they had two daughters, Lura Williamson and Wendy Brendle.&nbsp;Jean was a retired dental assistant. Jean enjoyed weekends camping with her husband, flowers of all sorts, animals especially dogs, and spending time with her family. She was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. However, she loved nothing more than becoming a great-grandmother.&nbsp;Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Mike, on September 9th, 2005, parents, and brother Larry Harper.&nbsp;Jean is survived by her daughters, Lura Williamson of Saint Joseph, MO, and Wendy (John) Brendle of Gower, MO; grandchildren, Hillary (Pete) Contreras, Molley (Robbie) Davis, Abbey Williamson, and Garrett (Madison) Brendle; great-grandson, Korbin Davis; sister, Darlene (Roy) Conner; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Rocky.&nbsp;The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 6pm-8pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.The family will have a private inurnment at a later date.<figure>
