Nathan Wayne Bigelow, born on August 22, 1979, in St. Joseph, Missouri, peacefully departed this world on October 25, 2023, in the comfort of his home in St. Joseph. He was 44 years old.

Nathan is survived by a loving and devoted family, including his cherished mother, Barbara (Nichols) Bigelow, and his caring father, Wayne Bigelow (Jeannie Scott). Nathan's memory lives on through his four beloved daughters, Lanie Colleen (Hochenauer) (21), Annalynn Elizabeth (10), Katherine Norah (7), and Addison James (5); step-brothers Bill and Walter; step-sisters Kelley and Christina; cousins Brian, Chrissy, Anthony, and Nicholas; "The Cousins" Angel, Bobbie Jo, Catherine, Victoria, and Ashley; his best friend Bacon Bigelow, and especially his significant other, Tessa Lund. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and countless cousins who held a special place in their hearts for him. His many friends and neighbors, who became like family to him, will forever remember his kindness and camaraderie. Nathan served as an unofficial auditor for the St. Joseph School District, where he dedicated his efforts to making a positive impact on the education of the local community. Nathan attended Bishop LeBlond, Central, Benton, and Lafayette High Schools, eventually earning his GED. His tenacity and commitment to his education were qualities that inspired those around him.

Nathan started his professional career in the Restaurant Industry. He worked in/managed many restaurants in the area, most notably, Applebees, Bandannas, CiCi's Pizza, Houlihan's, and 54th Street. Many in the area also knew Nathan as the friendly face of the local FedEx delivery service. He was a dedicated courier who went above and beyond to ensure that packages reached their destinations, even braving the elements, as evidenced by his memorable appearance on the cover page of the Kansas City Star, pushing through a mountain of snow to ensure Christmas packages were delivered. Rumor has it that he also made a memorable appearance as the FedEx man (with Opie) during St. Joseph's Dancing with the Stars, adding an element of joy and laughter to the community.&nbsp;

Nathan's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by family, friends, and neighbors who were touched by his warmth, dedication, and sense of humor. We will remember him for his love of family, his commitment to his community, and his ability to bring joy to those around him.

William Leroy Caldwell, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023.&nbsp;

He was born March 14, 1934 in Altamont, Missouri to William and Irene (Drummond) Caldwell. He was a graduate of Maysville High School.

Leroy married Alma Lucille “Billie” Crowley on April 21, 1956. She survives of the home.

Leroy worked for the railroad and St. Joseph Stockyards before working as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, where he retired after 20-plus years.

Leroy also owned and operated Norty’s Bar and Grill for 20-plus years, where many locals made lasting memories.

He loved to take care of his yard and go boating and fishing, especially at Lake Viking. He was known for making enchiladas, beans and “cold chili.”

Leroy was very loyal to his family, who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Caldwell; his parents; and brother-in-law Chuck Culver.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Billie; children, Vickie Kanatzar and Steve Kanatzar (Jodi); grandchildren, Brandon Kanatzar (Jalaina), Nicole Montgomery (Michael), Deana Lee (Joe), Brooke Cortez (Robert), and Gabrielle Caldwell; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Culver; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family members, including special cousin, Gordon Wilson.

Janet L. Shackelford, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 73. She was born on September 17, 1950, to the late John Leslie and Elizabeth Claudine (Miller) Daniel in Gentryville, Missouri.

Janet graduated from Stanberry High School in 1968. She married Rickey Joe Shackelford on October 26, 1968 and were married for 50 years before his passing in 2019.

She dedicated a remarkable 55 years of her life to the American Angus Association, where she was deeply appreciated for her love and friendly nature by colleagues.

Janet was a beloved family member and friend. She is survived by her sister, Linda Bentley; brother-in-law, Roger Shackelford; nieces and nephews, Susan Buttress (Jamie), Doug Bentley, and Derick Shackelford (Shelley); numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, and many workplace friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Rickey Joe Shackelford, her dear brother, Johnny Daniel, and brother-in-law, Kenny Bentley. As we remember Janet, her radiating warmth, loving nature, and friendly personality leave a positive memory etched in our hearts.

She was born August 22, 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Una had a passion for her family. She adored her grandchildren and treasured time spent with them.

She was very outgoing and would draw in strangers. Anyone she met became an instant friend.

A dedicated member of the First Christian Church in Savannah, Una had a willingness to share her love for Christ with anyone who would listen and pray unceasingly for those who wouldn’t.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Uneeda Parm and Freddy Smith; stepmother, Sharon Skidmore; and beloved dog, Dakota.

Edward "Ed" Harlan Stalder was born December 1st, 1954, in Fort Meade, Maryland, to his loving parents, Harlan Ray Stalder &amp; Cynthia Catherine Stalder.&nbsp;

Ed’s father, Harlan, was a Sergeant First Class E-7 in the U.S. Army and in 1955, they moved over to Kaiserslautern Germany Landstuhl Air Base, where his sister Cindy was born in 1957. His father Harlan eventually retired in 1969 and moved his family back to Smithville, Missouri. Ed’s father, Harlan, passed away at the very young age of 39.&nbsp;

Ed was a very stubborn and feisty young man and his mom, Cynthia, sent him to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri in 1970. Cynthia Catherine remarried in 1971 to Donald “Pulley” West Pulliam and his brother Justin “Ryan” Pulliam was born in 1974. Ed met his future wife, Ellen Elizabeth Sellars when he moved back home to attend North Platte High School in Dearborn, Missouri. Ed and Ellen got married their senior of high school, on Ed’s birthday, December 1st, 1972. Shortly thereafter they had their first son, Daniel Ray Stalder on July 5th, 1973.

Ed joined the Chicago Northwestern Railroad on June 1, 1973, as a conductor/ brakeman in Kansas City, Missouri. He was soon promoted to yardmaster, making him the youngest yard master in the country during that time.&nbsp;

Their second son, Zachary Todd Stalder, was born in Smithville, Missouri on October 21st, 1978. During this time, Ed was also a volunteer member of the Edgerton Fire Department from 1978-1981.&nbsp;

Ed and Ellen had their only daughter Megan LeeAnn (Stalder) Tollefson on June 10, 1983, in Smithville, MO. Shortly thereafter, the Kansas City Railroad yard shut down, and Ed relocated his whole family to Omaha, NE.&nbsp;

Chicago Northwestern was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1995. Ed served various roles, always prioritizing his role and schedule, to accommodate his family. He never missed a single practice or game of his 3 kids, whether it was wrestling, football, baseball, softball, or track. He retired from his epic 43-year tenure with the railroad to do what he always wanted to do, which was to be a grandpa to his grandbabies.

Ed Stalder was a loyal, faithful, and proud grandpa “Papa”. His devotion to his 7 grandchildren went unmatched. He poured his knowledge and experiences into Tucker Niles (15), Cade Harlan (12), David Samuel (9) [Megan and David Tollefson’s sons], Emerson Elizabeth (7) [ Zach and Tiffany Stalder’s daughter], and Jordyn Payge (22), Morgan Elizabeth (15) and Meagan Marjorie (11) [Dan and Sasha Stalder’s daughters].

Even after being diagnosed with stage 4 Esophageal Cancer, he continued to fight valiantly to spend as much time with his family as possible. Ed invested his time and energy in his grandbabies’ activities, including school functions and sporting events. Time spent at Grandpa’s house meant eating junk food, sneaking Mountain Dew and Kit Kats, using tools, gardening, sanding, swimming in the pool, and starting a lot of bonfires. There were no rules at grandpa’s house. He always preached that, “What happened at Grandpa’s, stayed at Grandpa’s!”

Beyond his time spent with his grandbabies, Ed was a die-hard Raiders fan (along with any other team his son-in-law David played for in the NFL) Whether it was attending the 2011 Super Bowl game, numerous wrestling meets, and softball tournaments he was a sports enthusiast and kids/grandkids biggest supporter. He was always in the middle of a never-ending project or idea he found scrolling on Pinterest. He was a true believer in Big Foot. Ed loved to “EXCESSIVELY” tinker in the garage on his Harley Davidson Road King. He also poured his talents into woodworking and building furniture for family and friends. Ed’s backyard was his own Oasis constantly under construction. With the best of intentions, Ed’s projects often extended to other people’s properties and shrubbery, not always with their permission, but would be offended if they were not appreciative.&nbsp;

Whether Ed was your husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, friend, or foe, those who knew Ed, know that he loved hard and fought hard for those he loved to the very end!!

He was born on December 1, 1952 to William Dale and Mildred Ileane (Ponting) VanSickle in Kansas City, KS. Rod grew up in the Northland and graduated from Oak Park High School.&nbsp;

Rod made his home in Kansas City and loved hunting and fishing.

David passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his family.

David lived his entire life in St. Joseph, with the exception of a short time in Independence, MO. &nbsp;He had extensive knowledge of St. Joseph history, which he loved to share.

He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1955. &nbsp;He then attended St. Joseph Junior College, after which he graduated from Northwest Missouri College in 1961.

He met Nancy (Caley) Bridenstine &nbsp;and they married in 1962. &nbsp;She preceded him in death in 2000. &nbsp;He was &nbsp;also preceded in death by his mother Margaret (Daly) Hiatt.

He worked at Hertz Rent A Car, while also working &nbsp;part time at the Missouri Air National Guard. &nbsp;David &nbsp;then joined the Guard full time in 1972. &nbsp;Eventually, he became a recruiter from which he retired after 40 years of service.

After retiring, &nbsp;he worked at OATS Transportation for 20 years.

Survivors include his three children; son George (Tom) and Stacy of St. Cloud, MN; daughter Nina and Mark Hill of Hamilton; son Paul and Jody of St. Joseph, MO; &nbsp;grandchildren; (Tom &amp; Stacy) Majia (Angelo), Rael (Sergio), Tiana, Marissa (Randy), Ammon, Myleen, Esther, Aaleyah. &nbsp;(Nina &amp; Mark) Destiny; (Paul &amp; Jody), Andrew (Briana), Alex, and Aaron; seven great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and other family; brothers Richard (Susie) Hiatt of Huntsville, AL and Robert (Linda) Hiatt of Edgar Springs, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Second Harvest Food Bank, Mount Mora Cemetery Association, or the Leukemia Society.

David was one of the good ones and will be missed beyond measure.

Lillian McDaniel, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born January 6, 1949 in St. Joseph to Winston Malotte Sr. and Myrtle (Trainer) Malotte.

Lillian married Jerry Dwayne McDaniel on June 21, 1965. He survives of the home.

She was a great mom and grandmother, who loved to hear what was going on in her grandchildren’s lives. From the biggest to smallest news, she wanted to hear it all. She loved spending time with them as well, from corralling the kids when the family would go to Jerry’s softball tournaments to shopping trips.

Lillian did not have a mean bone in her body and was nice to everybody. She leaves her family a legacy of love and caring.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Jerry; children, Kim Wolterman (Paul), Dawn McDaniel, Jerry McDaniel, and Keith McDaniel (Dana); grandchildren, Aaron McDaniel, Josie McDaniel, Wyatt Evans, Cody Leslie, and Alexia McDaniel; one great-grandson; brother, Winston Malotte, Jr.; other extended family members and friends.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

John "Johnnie" Anderson, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023. Born in Brownell, KS, on March 19, 1933 to the late John and Emma (Keil) Anderson.

He was a lifelong companion to his beloved late wife, Betty J. Graves, whom he married on June 11, 1960, their union stood the test of time until her death in 2020.

Johnnie, a United States Navy veteran, honorably served his country from 1952-1956 before transitioning into ground service with United Airlines. Johnnie's commitment to hard work and dedication reflected both in his professional life and home.

He is survived by his children Greg Anderson, Patti Sullivan, Chuck Anderson, Mark Anderson (Kathy), and Hallie Anderson. His memory will continue to be cherished by his grandchildren Jake (Tiffany), Blane (Melissa), Dylan, Jason, and Paige. Further touching the lives of his five great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was born March 24, 1937 in Junction City, KS, son of Geraldine and Robert Thomas Bruce. Bob enlisted in the US Navy, where he served on the USS Forrest Sherman during the Vietnam War. He retired from the US Navy after 18 years of service. Bob later worked at Crown Center as an Engineer. His hobbies included fishing, and he was a classic car enthusiast. Robert “Bob” Knechtenhofer, 94, Savannah, Missouri; passed away Tuesday, October 24,2023 at a local health care facility with his family by his side.

Bob was born on January 12, 1929 in Andrew County, Missouri to the late William and Hazel&nbsp;(Talbot) Knechtenhofer. He was a 1947 graduate of Savannah High School.

Mr. Knechtenhofer proudly served his country in US Army during the Korean Conflict, earning&nbsp;numerous service medals and a bronze star.

In addition to being a proud American, Bob was extremely proud of his Swiss heritage,&nbsp;making numerous trips to his native country.

Mr. Knechtenhofer retired from the Home Bank after twenty-eight years and previously worked for Seaman &amp; Schuske Metal Works and Roofing for thirty years.

Bob was an active member of the American Legion Post 287, Moila Shriners and the Swiss Lodge. Bob could always strike up a conversation with anyone and never knew a stranger.&nbsp; He will be missed by many.

Bob married Beverly I. Peek on March 2, 1955 at the Savannah First Christian Church. They celebrated 61 years of marriage and together raised their four children. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2016.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Steven; sister,&nbsp;Doris Schneider and brother, William Knechtenhofer.

Survivors include his three children, Donald Knechtenhofer (Karin), Savannah, MO; Jan Knechtenhofer, Savannah, MO; John Knechtenhofer (Glenda Williams), Mission, KS; six grandchildren, Erien Lee Knechtenhofer (Kerri), Katlin Connell (Steven Gripka), Sarah Knechtenhofer, Kelsey Wynes (Tucker), Sam Knechtenhofer (Alessia) and Jakob Knechtenhofer (Kali Wade), and five great-grandchildren, Bree and Aiden Knechtenhofer, Brecken and Jaxson Wynes and Greta Gripka.

Herb was a long-time bowler in Kansas City and St. Joseph. He was named the 1994 St. Joseph City Tournament Champion and was placed in the St. Joseph USBC Hall of Fame in 2008. Herb had numerous 1st place tournament wins, multiple 11 in a row games, a 299 game, 2x 300 games, and an 800 series.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At Herb’s request, there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest with his wife in Winston, MO.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lois Adams, 78, Maysville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born February 27, 1945 in King City, Missouri to Vester and Mary (Sifers) Eaton.&nbsp;

Lois married Delbert Adams on July 19, 1963. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2013.

After graduating from Maysville High School, Lois worked at several factories before finding her true calling as a CMA at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She worked there for 17 years.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Overcomers Group for cancer survivors.

Lois was the go-to anchor for her family for many years. She didn’t much like to cook but could be counted on for her “Watergate” salad at family gatherings.

An outgoing person, Lois enjoyed traveling and never met a stranger. She was known for her ornery sense of humor and was always up for a prank. She and her roommate JoEllen at Sunset Homes were two of a kind – always laughing and enjoying each other’s company. The nursing home staff said they would miss her laugh.

Lois brightened up the lives of her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Delbert; her parents; and siblings, Keith Eaton, Ileene Maynes, Ivan Eaton, Patricia Mace, Donna Eaton and Johnny Eaton.

On March 22, 1974, he married Victoria C. Brandon.

He was a material handler at Wire Rope for 28 years until his retirement.

Gerald enjoyed classic cars, being outdoors and watching wrestling programs and Western films.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Edith, Geraldine, and Norman, his daughter, Belinda, and a great-grandson.

Ernest liked riding his motorcycle, fishing, and having coffee with his buddies in the morning. He also enjoyed watching Netflix and “Sons of Anarchy” as well as scrolling through TikTok and watching YouTube videos.

He was definitely a man of his word who would help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Hilery Coon; his parents; father-in-law, Charles Brown; and mother-in-law, Clara Brown.

He was born October 5, 1931, south of Onaga, the son of Carl and Edna McCloughan Kocher. &nbsp;He graduated from Onaga High School in 1949 and from auctioneer school in 1950. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jim was a farmer and stockman, but his true avocation was being an auctioneer. &nbsp;He also drove a school bus for the Onaga schools.

He married Leta Grace Holt on December 24, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Onaga. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2005.

Jim was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Dale Kocher, a daughter, Janet George, a grandson, Joshua Kocher, and a sister, Zona Marcella Erass.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Kocher and wife Ann, Onaga, six grandchildren, J.C., Jena, Keyanna, Branson, Amy and Matthew, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and one on the way.

He was born May 11, 1935 at Leroy, KS, the son of Arthur and Martha Hively Hunter. &nbsp;He graduated from Leroy High School in 1953. &nbsp;

Clayton owned and operated Hunter’s Home Improvement, working in the Topeka and Hoyt area.

He married Verla Parsons on May 28, 1955 in Topeka. &nbsp;She survives, of the home.&nbsp;

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Karen Hunter, a brother, Gerald Hunter, and his sisters, Beulah Markley, Opal Bradley and Juanita Godsey.

Other survivors include two sons, Chris Hunter, Pensacola, Florida and Kirk Hunter, Augusta; two daughters, Connie Schafer (Gary), Mayetta and Nevaeh Grubb, Lawrence; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Sharon was born December 31, 1949 to parents Albert “Curly” and Letha Mae (Bahler) Gordon. Sharon graduated from South Holt High School. She married Larry Stone; they later divorced.

Sharon worked for Light &amp; Power in Mound City and in St. Joseph. She also owned grocery stores in Forest City and Mound City. Sharon baked cakes and catered weddings for many years. She was also an agent for Bankers Life Insurance and lived in St. Joseph, Missouri. She later moved to Omaha, Nebraska.

Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her daughter, Melanie Redinbaugh and grandson Roran, both of Omaha; siblings, Larry (Kathy) Gordon of Mound City, Lila (Wayne) Atkins of Oregon, Rosemary Gordon of Sidney, Iowa, and Roger (Susie) Gordon of Kansas City, Missouri; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

His battle with Parkinson’s is over and the Crown of Life is won! The last several months he often expressed his desire to go home to Jesus. John was born in Uniontown, Ohio, on Aril 1, 1943, to Rudy and Fannie Byler Sommers. On September 18, 1964, he married Caroline Sommers and they shared 59 blessed years together.

Loving father to Tim and wife Keturah, Weatherby, MO, Wanda and husband Jonas Schrock, Litchfield, CA, Marion and wife Rhoda, Hindsville, AR, Paul and wife Faith, Bangor, CA, Marcus and wife Anita, Wolfe City, TX, Roseanna and husband Nathaniel Graber, LaRussell, MO, Stephen and wife Twyla, Weatherby, MO, Martha and husband Urie Kanagy, Accident, MD, Titus and wife Rose, Hindsville, AR, Sharon and husband Ben Stoltzfus, Knob Knoster, MO.

He is also survived by 51 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, 39 step-great-grandchildren. One brother Henry and Lydiann, three sisters, Nancy Troyer, Miriam and Lester Otto, Sadie and Albert Marner. In-laws Paul and Ruth Miller, Bill and Katherine Sommers, Ed Sommers, Ray and Marty Troyer, Renee Sommers, Nelson and Becky Sommers, Sharon Lam, Gaylon and Melody Sommers, Laverne and Leona Sommers, Dave and Melodie Sommers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, two brothers Seth and Wally, one sister, Vera Miller, 3 brothers-in-law, Eli Miller, Phil Lam, Floyd Sommers, one sister-in-law, Miriam Sommers.

John and Caroline began their married life in Hartville, Ohio. They then moved to Minerva, Ohio where they began farming. They spent several years in Tennessee before moving to Fairview, Missouri in 1982. They were sent to Weatherby as part of an outreach from the Fairview congregation and lived there until his death.

John was a dairy farmer for 25 years before moving to Weatherby where he was co-owner of North Country Truss until he retired. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida for the last 10 years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011. He always enjoyed traveling and continued to do so even though it became more difficult. He took his last trip on earth July 27-29, 2023, just before he lost his ability to walk. He would often pray for healing from his Parkinson’s and God has answered that prayer.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Maysville Christian Fellowship Weatherby, Missouri.&nbsp;Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Maysville Fellowship with burial immediately following at Maysville Fellowship Cemetery.
