Robert “Bob” Knechtenhofer, 94, Savannah, Missouri; passed away Tuesday, October 24,2023 at a local health care facility with his family by his side.
Bob was born on January 12, 1929 in Andrew County, Missouri to the late William and Hazel (Talbot) Knechtenhofer. He was a 1947 graduate of Savannah High School.
Mr. Knechtenhofer proudly served his country in US Army during the Korean Conflict, earning numerous service medals and a bronze star.
In addition to being a proud American, Bob was extremely proud of his Swiss heritage, making numerous trips to his native country.
Mr. Knechtenhofer retired from the Home Bank after twenty-eight years and previously worked for Seaman & Schuske Metal Works and Roofing for thirty years.
Bob was an active member of the American Legion Post 287, Moila Shriners and the Swiss Lodge. Bob could always strike up a conversation with anyone and never knew a stranger. He will be missed by many.
Bob married Beverly I. Peek on March 2, 1955 at the Savannah First Christian Church. They celebrated 61 years of marriage and together raised their four children. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2016.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Steven; sister, Doris Schneider and brother, William Knechtenhofer.
Survivors include his three children, Donald Knechtenhofer (Karin), Savannah, MO; Jan Knechtenhofer, Savannah, MO; John Knechtenhofer (Glenda Williams), Mission, KS; six grandchildren, Erien Lee Knechtenhofer (Kerri), Katlin Connell (Steven Gripka), Sarah Knechtenhofer, Kelsey Wynes (Tucker), Sam Knechtenhofer (Alessia) and Jakob Knechtenhofer (Kali Wade), and five great-grandchildren, Bree and Aiden Knechtenhofer, Brecken and Jaxson Wynes and Greta Gripka.
Services 2:00 PM Monday, October 30, 2023 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment St. John's Cemetery, Amazonia, Missouri.
