David passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his family.
David lived his entire life in St. Joseph, with the exception of a short time in Independence, MO. He had extensive knowledge of St. Joseph history, which he loved to share.
He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1955. He then attended St. Joseph Junior College, after which he graduated from Northwest Missouri College in 1961.
He met Nancy (Caley) Bridenstine and they married in 1962. She preceded him in death in 2000. He was also preceded in death by his mother Margaret (Daly) Hiatt.
He worked at Hertz Rent A Car, while also working part time at the Missouri Air National Guard. David then joined the Guard full time in 1972. Eventually, he became a recruiter from which he retired after 40 years of service.
After retiring, he worked at OATS Transportation for 20 years.
Survivors include his three children; son George (Tom) and Stacy of St. Cloud, MN; daughter Nina and Mark Hill of Hamilton; son Paul and Jody of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren; (Tom & Stacy) Majia (Angelo), Rael (Sergio), Tiana, Marissa (Randy), Ammon, Myleen, Esther, Aaleyah. (Nina & Mark) Destiny; (Paul & Jody), Andrew (Briana), Alex, and Aaron; seven great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and other family; brothers Richard (Susie) Hiatt of Huntsville, AL and Robert (Linda) Hiatt of Edgar Springs, MO.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Second Harvest Food Bank, Mount Mora Cemetery Association, or the Leukemia Society.
David was one of the good ones and will be missed beyond measure.
Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Services will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mount Mora Cemetery.
