Richard Ernest Childress was born to Luther Ernest Childress (deceased) and Anna Marie Childress (of Hiawatha KS). He is one of 5 siblings. He was born on March 23rd, 1948 in Aberdeen Washington and lived his early childhood years in Hoquiam Washington. The family later moved to southern California where they spent their childhoods living in various parts of the Orange County area where he remained into his 20s.&nbsp;

Richard served his country in the US army as an E6 Staff Sergeant and was wounded in action during his 2 year tour of duty in Vietnam. He received an army commendation medal for his meritorious service and acts of heroism! &nbsp;

After returning from Vietnam he met and married Debbie and the two settled in Hiawatha KS where they raised a family. Richard continued to live in Hiawatha until he passed away on the evening of Sunday November 17th. 2024.

Richard was a born again Christian saved by grace and his loved ones find comfort in knowing that he is in the presence of God enjoying perfect health and peace!&nbsp;

Joseph Lawrence Pflugradt, 82, of Gower, MO passed away November 19, 2024.

He was born on September 13, 1942, to Andrew William and Lillie Mae (Simpson) Pflugradt in St. Joseph, MO where he grew up and attended Benton High School. Joe joined the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class during his first enlistment. He served on the USS North Hampton CC-1 known as the “Floating White House” and was part of the naval blockade for the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable discharge he returned to the St. Joseph area.

On November 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Calloway. After their marriage they lived in Easton, MO for 27 years. In 1990 they moved to Gower, MO where he made his “Mountain on the Hilltop” home.

Joe worked for General Motors in Fairfax he built homes and later retired as a boiler operator from St. Joseph Light and Power after 42 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid East Buchanan Sports fan, especially the Lady Bulldogs Softball Team. He was known for his many walks around the Gower area. Most of all he loved his family and being “PaPa Joe”.

Joe was preceded in death his parents Andy and Lillie; and his siblings Lillian Stevens, Andy Jr. Pflugradt, Henry Pflugradt, Sr., Dorothy Seevers, Larry Pflugradt and Mike Pflugradt; and his son Joseph “Little Joe” Pflugradt.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Pflugradt; daughter Cindy Gordan, Jody (Deron) Adkins and Andrea (Randy) Reiley; grandchildren Jarrod, Erica, Ashley, Hunter (Alex), Hannah Jo (Taylor), Nick (Kasey) and Kinna (Kyle); great- Theodore, Cassius, Logan Joseph, Vivian and Nolan; numerous nieces and nephews including Jay Pflugradt, other relatives and many friends.

Military Honors with Funeral Service 3:00 p.m. with visitation following the service until 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 22nd at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.

Dolores Jean Wood, born December 4, 1931, in Atchison, KS, to Carl F. and Rose M. (Enzbrenner) Wagner, passed away on November 17, 2024, at the age of 92.&nbsp;

She attended Mooney Creek elementary school and the Mount St. Scholastica Academy for three years before graduating from Atchison High in 1949. Growing up during the World War II era, she was forced to grow up fast, leaving home in her early teens to care for elderly family members. At the age of 19, she married her husband of 56 years, "Bud" Lawrence Wood, on May 20, 1950, at Sacred Heart Parish where they were both parishioners until its closing. Together, they built a life on their farm, raising livestock, selling eggs and tending a large garden each year while also working full time jobs in town.

In 1967, after her children started high school, she began working at Mullin's Brothers Hardware Store, later transitioning to Rockwell/Atchison Casting, where she dedicated over 20 years. Dolores and Bud enjoyed hosting gatherings at their home for holidays and seasonal parties such as Octoberfest, traveling to Branson, supporting charitable causes, spending time with grandchildren and devoting much of their free time to caring for elderly family members.

Family members remember her as a left-handed, feisty, funny, independent, smart and hardworking family-oriented woman who was amazing with numbers, encouraged education, hard work and the pursuit of goals. With beautiful handwriting she enjoyed sending letters and cards to friends and family. Having a green thumb, she knew all sorts of tips and tricks for growing better fruits and vegetables. She was an amazing cook and would always send you home with a “care-package”. She will be greatly missed by her family.&nbsp;

She remained in her home after her husband's passing in 2006, living there until her own death.

Dolores was preceded in death by her brothers Wilbur, Melvin and Gerald Wagner; grandson Thomas Wood; and son-in-law Charles Noll. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Noll of Nortonville, and son, Stephen Wood (Deanna) of Atchison; her sister, Mary Newell of Oskaloosa; along with 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial to celebrate the life of Dolores will be on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Atchison. A rosary will begin on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. followed by visitation at the church. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Christa Wilson 56, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024 in Kansas City, KS. She was born October 25, 1968 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of Tama and Leslie Auten. 

She graduated from Benton High School Class of 1986, &nbsp;and went on to get her BSN at Missouri Western State University. Christa worked at several area nursing homes and hospice facilities, including Kendallwood, Three Rivers Hospice and Saxton Care Chateau. She was a very talented vocalist who loved to perform and was apart of many ensembles including Benton Singers and the plays, as well as the Missouri Western Community Choir. Christa was also member of Abundant Faith Church of God. 

Christa was preceded in death by father, Leslie Albert Auten, and husband, Jimmy Wilson. 

Survivors include mother, Tama Auten of St. Joseph, MO, sister, Dana (Jon) Haywood of Caruthersville, MO, son, Chandler (Emily) Green of Saint Joseph, MO, and Larry Laroy Sample of Chattanooga, TN, nephews, Spencer (Lauren), Casey (Amanda), and Taylor (Brittany) Haywood.

Robin Ann (Munn) Longoria was born January 25, 1969, to Ross and Janice (Long) Munn in York NE. Robin was baptized at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, Nebraska, and was confirmed on June 5, 1983 at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Edward, Nebraska. She attended Eagle Elementary and St. Edward Public Schools, graduating with the St. Edward High School class of 1987. Robin went on to UNL and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

On August 20,1999, Robin married Arnie Longoria and they made their home in Lincoln with their two children, Megan and Benito. In 2007, the family moved to St. Joseph MO where they have resided for the past 17 years. Robin worked as a dental assistant for Affordable Dentures and a caregiver for Choices of St. Joseph.

Robin passed away on November 15, 2024, following a long and difficult struggle with depression. Robin was a kind, generous and selfless person. She would give anyone the shirt off her back, always putting others before herself. She had an incredible spirit and touched so many lives. It is hard to imagine life without her.

Robin is survived by her husband Arnie, her children, Megan (Ryan Koberstein) and Benito, her mother and step-father Janice and Jim Lightner of St. Edward NE, and parents-in-law Arnold and Doris Longoria of Lincoln NE. Adam Kent Hass, 29, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024.

He was born August 4, 1995 to Frankie Hass Jr. and Shelly Carolus in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He was a graduate from Lafayette High School. He worked as a production tech at Heartland AG.

A certified mechanic by trade, Adam found solace and satisfaction in restoring and working on cars. His adventurous spirit shined brightest when he rode his motorcycle, a pursuit that granted him freedom and an unbreakable connection to the road and the world around him.

He enjoyed being a father, cherishing every moment with his children and Candace. The bond he shared with his brother and father was strong, built on mutual respect and countless shared experiences that defined their close-knit relationship.

On September 23, 1961, Linda married Richard “Barney” Holt in Cameron, Missouri, and to this union five children were born.

Martha Sara Heflin Moldaver, 73, Maryville, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024.

She was born November 10, 1951 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Earl and Serina (Weinshank) Moldaver.

Martha married Paul James Heflin on June 12, 2010. He survives of the home.

She enjoyed expressing her creativity as an artist at Hallmark for 25 years, where she designed cards and Christmas ornament packaging, among many other things.

After retiring from Hallmark, she earned her CNA certificate and worked at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for two years. After marrying Paul, she focused on her longtime volunteer work with hospice and the Maryville Garden Club.

Martha was an avid gardener and antique collector. She also was a longtime member of Ohev Shalom in Prairie Village, Kansas.

Most of all, Martha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who leaves a legacy of love and creativity for all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcie Sitron; brother-in-law, David Heflin; and step-son-in-law, Brian Halley.

Jess E. Ribelin, 87, of Mayetta, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024 at his home near Mayetta.&nbsp;

He was born July 27, 1937 at Dover, the son of Willie and Rosie Morand Ribelin. He graduated from Dover High School in 1955. He served four years in the U.S. Navy on several different ships, including a supply ship, an aircraft carrier and the U.S.S. Dixie.

Jess was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hoyt. He loved hunting and fishing and all things outdoors. He also loved a good western.

He had worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka for 32 ½ years, and was a farmer and a rancher.

He married Lorendia Williamson on October 17, 1959 in Tulare, California. She survives, of the home.&nbsp;

Jess was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Joseph Ribelin, Karl Ribelin and Robert Ribelin, and one sister, Anna Mae Brown.

Other survivors include four sons, Ken Ribelin, Bryan Ribelin (Donna) and Cary Ribelin (Jamie), all of Mayetta, and Alan Ribelin (Julie), Meriden, two brothers, Steve Ribelin (Darlene), Topeka and Richard Ribelin (Jan), Osage City, a sister-in-law, Mary Ribelin, Oklahoma City, OK, thirteen grandchildren, twenty- four great grandchildren, with two on the way, and many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed reading, playing Bingo, Skip-Bo, and watching game shows. Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune were her favorites. Joyce loved going out to lunch with her children to grab a slice of pizza and Mountain Dew. She was also a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

 She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting and sewing by hand, her Miller Light, and was always with her dogs, she had several throughout her life that she adored.

Marvin Lee Huey, 88, of Elwood, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. He was born August 24, 1936 in Richmond, MO, son of Stella and Thomas Huey. 

He graduated from Lafayette High School. Following high school, he enlisted into the United States Army and served from 1954-1958. &nbsp;On January 3, 1989, he married Hortencia "Tangie" Flores. Marvin spent many years working as a Union Laborer, proudly working on many projects in the area. He was a member of Labors Union Local 579, where he served as a past board member, and member of the VFW Post 6760. He enjoyed spending time at his local pub hangouts and at Big Lake. 

Marvin was preceded in death by wife, Hortencia "Tangie" Huey, his parents, bonus children, Rick Allen and Rebecca Gann, siblings, Myrtle Harper, Tom Huey, and Dale Huey, granddaughter, Amber, and great-grandson, Storm.

Marvin Lee Huey, 88, of Elwood, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. He was born August 24, 1936 in Richmond, MO, son of Stella and Thomas Huey. He graduated from Lafayette High School. Following high school, he enlisted into the United States Army and served from 1954-1958. &nbsp;On January 3, 1989, he married Hortencia "Tangie" Flores. Marvin spent many years working as a Union Laborer, proudly working on many projects in the area. He was a member of Labors Union Local 579, where he served as a past board member, and member of the VFW Post 6760. He enjoyed spending time at his local pub hangouts and at Big Lake. Marvin was preceded in death by wife, Hortencia "Tangie" Huey, his parents, bonus children, Rick Allen and Rebecca Gann, siblings, Myrtle Harper, Tom Huey, and Dale Huey, granddaughter, Amber, and great-grandson, Storm. Michael Brian Buczek 60, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in a St. Joseph, MO Hospital. He was born September 14, 1964 in St. Joseph, Missouri, son of the late Margaret &amp; Benjamin Buczek. 

He graduated from DeKalb High School, and worked 35 years at Nestle Purina. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, coon hunting, working and training bird dogs, and riding motorcycles.

Roger Lee Carson, 90, Savannah, MO; passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 29, 1934 to Melvin and Mary (Kurtz) Carson with twin brother, Roland, outside of Oregon, Missouri.

Roger attended and graduated from New Point School in 1952. &nbsp;He attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville MO in 1953. &nbsp;He then joined the Army in 1954 and was stationed in South Korea, where he served in the 44th Engineering Battalion. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1956. After discharge, he pursued his education and graduated from Colorado State College in Greeley in 1959. &nbsp;

After graduation, Roger moved to Savannah, Mo and engaged in farming for sixty-five years. While refusing to slow down and retire from farming, he drove for Missouri Western, in St. Joseph and King of the Road from Topeka, KS tour busses for many years. He traveled over the U.S. and Canada including going to the Olympics in Salt Lake City in Utah and Washington D.C.

Roger was a member at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Country Club, MO. &nbsp;

Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Roland; sister, Marilyn Mitchell and daughter, Lu Ann (Steve) Ferguson

Roger married Barbara Rutherford in 1980. &nbsp;She survives of the home.

He is also survived by sons; Jon (Lynette) Carson; Cody (Allison Lee) Carson; daughters, Debbie (Tom) Brooke; Shelley (Alfredo) Morales Merritt and Brea Merritt; grandchildren include, Abbie (Shawn) Cun, BJ (Emmie) Ferguson, Kurt (Jennifer) Brooke, Chris Brooke, Hunter and Halle Carson; granddaughter, Alyka Zahnd and five great-grandchildren.

Thomas Taylor Coker, 27, Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Mound City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Taylor was born January 5, 1997, in Winter Haven, Florida to James and Lisa (Kerns) Coker.

Taylor, his mom, and brother Michael moved to Mound City in June 2005. He graduated as valedictorian of the Mound City High School Class of 2015. He then attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in December 2018, earning a Bachelor’s in Finance. Taylor joined Edward Jones in 2018, obtaining the position of financial advisor, where he was a trusted and thoughtful leader, whose notable spirit of caring and compassion for all clients and colleagues was matched only by his love for family and community.

Taylor married his high school sweetheart, Emily Ann Wedlock, June 8, 2024. Their union transcended many years of friendship and love. From childhood friends to lifelong partners, Taylor and Emily shared a bond that grew from playful laughter and shared memories, into a love that lasted a lifetime, proving that some connections are meant to endure through stages of life. Throughout their life together, Taylor lovingly called his wife “Meeley”, a nickname that brought a smile to her face every day, reminding us all of the deep affection and humor they shared in the years of their relationship.

While in Mound City, he devoted his extra free time to ensuring the care and needs of his Grandma J were met. He also developed his passions and hobbies, including all things waterfowl, fishing, and spending time with buddies. Those buddies, near and far, will all miss him dearly.

Taylor was preceded in death by his father, James Coker, maternal grandfather, James Kerns and paternal grandmother Barbara Ann Bennett. He will be missed dearly by all of his family, friends and community. Thomas Taylor Coker 1997 - 2024

Mary Ann Payne passed away at the age of 101 on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the Oregon Care Center. She was born on August 10, 2023 in Centralia, Kansas to Virgil Thomas Moore and Cecilia Sophia Koelzer Moore. She was the oldest of seven children. Mary Ann’s parents moved to Forest City, Missouri during her first year of school. There she attended grade school at Chambers, a one-room schoolhouse. After a year at Oregon high school, she worked for her room and board while attending high school at the Convent of Sacred Heart in Saint Joseph, Missouri, where she graduated from high school with honors.

Mary Ann married her childhood sweetheart, Godfrey Alfred Payne. They were married on August 26, 1941 and shared 65 years together. They resided in Holt County most of their lives. They enjoyed trips throughout the United States, trips to South America and numerous fishing trips to Soldotna, Alaska. For years, they wintered as snowbirds in Harlingen, Texas. They also enjoyed going out on Saturday night for dinner and dancing with their friends.

Mary Ann treasured her time with family and grandchildren and had a way of making family occasions extra special. Mary Ann described herself as having a career of being a “happy homemaker.” Family members will remember her delicious homemade apple pies and after school cinnamon rolls and donuts. She had a special talent of using ordinary spices to make everyday food taste gourmet. Whether it was a planned gathering or an impromptu visit, her home was always company ready to host family and friends.&nbsp;

Godfrey was a Navy veteran of World War II and Mary Ann was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of P.E.O., Chapter Z, Oregon, Missouri for over 60 years. Her faith was central to her life and she was a dedicated member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy of warmth, love, and community spirit that will be treasured by all who knew her.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Godfrey Alfred Payne; grandchild, David Roueche; and sisters, Rachel Cooper, Dorothy Peregrine and Mildred Uehlin.

Mary Ann is survived by her five children: Carolyn Ann Sillman of Oregon, MO, Shirley Ann Roueche, St. Joseph, MO, Godfrey Allen (Lauren) Payne of Harlingen, TX, Cecilia Ann (Jerry) Fink of Oregon, MO, and Glenn Alfred (Teresa) Payne of Oregon, MO. She is also survived by two sisters: Alice McGiness of Skidmore, MO, Virginia Blunt of Effingham, KS, and brother, Gregory Moore of St. Joseph, MO. Other survivors include ten grandchildren: Will (Jayne) Sillman, Mary Ann (Mike) Pruitt, Stephanie (Robert) Haile, Nicolas (Catherine) Roueche, Christine Payne, Tara (Paul) Blaufuss, Brian Fink, Lindsay Payne, Carrie Gregoire, and Aaron (Julianna) Payne; nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Randy Holmes, 70, of Smithville, MO passed away peacefully at home with his family on November 16, 2024.

He was born on March 11, 1954 to Raymond Orvale and Jeraldine Patricia (Aten) Holmes in Eden, Oklahoma. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1973.;On April 21, 1978 he was united in marriage to Jenny Lee Eads. After their marriage they made their home in Smithville.

Randy worked at Tire Supply in Kansas City for 20 years. He then worked as a custodian for the Smithville School District for 16 years. He loved flowers and working in the yard. His hobby was tropical fish. Randy had many tanks and participated in many fish shows. Randy was a lifetime member of the Heart of American Aquarium Club and won many trophies, ribbons, and plaques at the shows.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smithville where he served as a deacon, currently known as Prevail Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Cindy Caraway.

Randy is survived by his wife, Jenny Lee of 46 years; daughter, Cathy (David) Alden; son-in-law, Jerry Caraway; grandchildren, Doety Wright, Alissa (Ben) Courtney, Jennifer Corless, Michele (Willie) Rodriquez, Kristy (Ryan) Seabaugh; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Ray (Eva) Holmes; niece, Erin (Brad) Dixson; grand-nephew; other relatives and many friends.

He was born on March 4, 1944, to Norma Hazen in Stockton, KS. At the age of 4, Dan was adopted by his step-dad Ward Hayes. Dan grew up on a farm and attended grade school and graduated from Palco High School in Palco, KS. After completion of high school, Dan attended trade school to become a mechanic.

Dan was in the U.S. Army in 1964 after trade school till he was discharged in 1967.

Dan married Marcia Hayes on November 12, 1967, in Ogallah, KS. They were married for 57 years. They raised 4 children and Dan worked as a mechanic until he retired.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Ogallah, KS and Smithville Chirstian Church in Smithville, MO.

Dan also enjoyed doing woodwork and made several “neat seats” for the grandkids and several other children. He also made cradles for the granddaughters and many other wooden projects, building everything with much love.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; son Glen Hayes, brother Steve Hayes and grandson Xavier Hayes.

He is survived by his wife Marcia Hayes of the home; children Karen (Phil) Vice of Smithville, MO, Anita Cook of Smithville, MO, Bobby (Crystal) Hayes of Wamego, KS; daughter-in-law Makenzie Hayes of Liberty, MO; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister Kathy (Jerry) Francisco of Birchwood, TN; brothers Doug (Tadhi) Hayes of Amarillo, TX, Greg (Brynda) Hayes of Ellsworth, KS and Mark (Debbie) Hayes of Eureka, KS; sister-in-law Peggy Hayes of Wichita, KS; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service with Military Honors will be at 5:00 p.m. with Visitation following the service until 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 22nd at Smithville Christian Church in Smithville, MO.

Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23rd at Ogallah Cemetery, Ogallah, KS.
