Joan Hughes, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away with her loving family by her side, April 4, 2026.
She was born July 21, 1933 to Lester and Ada (Martindale) Mathews. Joan was raised in St. Joseph and graduated from Benton High School. She married Lee Hughes and celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.
She was very involved with her children and grandchildren. As a mother of five children, she was the taxi driver to school, scouting, vacation bible school, and fun trips.
She worked at Mosaic Hospital in the mail room and she also volunteered at the hospital.
She loved her family and her favorite brother.
Survivors include her children Kerry Hughes, Trudie Hoerath (Steve), Stuart Hughes (Chrissy), Betsy Allison (Derek); 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother Jerry Mathews (Faye).
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Pamela Finley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Calvary Church, or charity of the donor's choice
Services will be Friday, April 10, 2026 at 11:00 am at Grace Calvary Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 am at the church.
