Janis June Allen, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 25, 2025.

She was born on November 10, 1937, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, to former Fire Chief Lawrence Jessee and Mazie Jessee (Saunders). Janis graduated from Benton High School in Saint Joseph and began working at Green Hills Grocery in 1957. It was there she met the love of her life, Roger Lee Allen. The two were married on October 31, 1969, and shared 46 wonderful years together.

In 1977, Janis and Roger purchased Green Hills Grocery on Saint Joseph Avenue, where she remained a dedicated owner until her retirement in March 2020. Her work ethic and commitment to her community left a lasting legacy.

Janis had a deep love for travel, especially to Hawaii. She was an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Kansas men’s basketball team. She also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved dog Riley and cats Fig and Luna.

She is survived by her children: Lori Snyder (Mark), Steven Allen, Jennifer Headding (Jason), and Samantha Lee (Tim); her grandchildren: Chad Reno (West) and Holly Miller (John); and her great-grandchildren: Quentin Miller and Cadence Miller.

Janis was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Allen; her parents, Lawrence and Mazie Jessee; her siblings, Donald Jessee and Helen Rowan; and her grandson, Ryan Reno (West).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Janis’ memory to the Saint Joseph Animal Shelter.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Barbara Jean "Dolly" (Smith) Scarbrough&nbsp;passed away on July 24th, 2025 at Tiffany Care Center in Mound City surrounded by her loving family. &nbsp;

Dolly was born July 17th, 1932 in rural Atchison County to William and Selma Smith. &nbsp;She was born at 3 lbs and was the &nbsp;baby of 15 children. Hence, where the nickname, Dolly, came from. &nbsp;Prior to starting school, the family moved to Mound City where she remained for the rest of her life.

Dolly attended elementary at Bagby Country School and attended High School at Mound City. &nbsp;It was in the school where she met her husband, Frankie Scarbrough. &nbsp;They were married on September 10th, 1949. &nbsp;Together they raised three children: Gary Lee, Selma Kay and Marc Alan.

Dolly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother where she prided herself in keeping a tidy house. &nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking her famous banana bread and apple dumplings for her family.

Dolly was happiest when her family was gathered around her table to share a homemade meal. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death her parents and 13 siblings (Erma, Ruby, Mildred, Dorothy, Joe David, Eldon, Miriam, Wilma, Wayne, Herschel, Wiley, Raymond, Mary Lea); her husband, Frankie Scarbrough; and daughter-in-law, Judi Scarbrough. &nbsp;

She is survived by her children, Gary Scarbrough, Kay (Mark) Sitherwood, and Marc (Dana) Scarbrough; sister, Helen Derr; grandchildren, Jason Scarbrough, Jodi Pecora (Mike), Kasey Miles (Korey), Jeremy Sitherwood (Stephani), Mitchell Scarbrough and Jamie Short (Ben); great grandchildren, Reese, Andrew, Abigail, Frankee, Ryder, Jaeger , Jonas, &nbsp;Landon and River; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas R. Moreno, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025.

He was born April 17, 1961 in Berlin, Germany, to Zachary and Margot (Tollner) Moreno. Thomas grew up in St. Joseph, where he was a 1979 graduate of Central High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Thomas worked for several companies as a computer analyst, the last of which was Boehringer Ingelheim.

He was active in the Allied Arts Council, both as a volunteer and actor in productions.

Thomas was known as a very kind man, who liked to spend time with his family, especially Sunday dinners, and took care of his mother in her last years.

Survivors include brother, Steven Moreno; step-mother, Linda Moreno; step-sister, Meredith Colson (Jeremy); nieces and nephews, Aaron (Caitlyn), Sadie (David), Daniel, and Andrew (Katie); five great-nieces; other extended family and friends.

Thomas Moreno April 17, 1961-July 26, 2025

William "Bill" Slentz, 81, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri and as of 2020 to present resided in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Bill was a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School in 1962 and went on to continue his education and earn his bachelor’s degree of science in business administration from Missouri Western State University.

On April 8, 1967, Bill married the love of his life, Diane, whom they had one child William "Billy" in 1980.

Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus from 1986 to present.

Bill had a love for cars and started a career in sales, then went on to work for Vektek for 25 years where he also retired from in 2019.

In 2014 another great joy came into Bill's life, his grandson Liam whom he loved so much. One of Bill's greatest joys was watching Liam play soccer and loved attending Liam's soccer games. An avid bird lover, Bill could name almost any bird he saw and would be able to quote facts about those birds. He enjoyed feeding and watching them daily while reading his newspaper. Another one of Bill's most favorite things to do was to bbq; he was a charcoal grill kind-of-guy and always grilled on his Weber charcoal grill. He had binders of BBQ meat and rub recipes he had collected and some he created himself. BBQing was a passion of Bill's and he truly elevated BBQ to an art form.

William "Bill" Slentz was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill is survived by his wife Diane Slentz of 58 yrs; son, William "Billy" Slentz (Sarah); grandson, Liam Patrick Slentz; and other loving family members to include Kelly Horn (Allison) and children.

Bill made such a lasting impression and impacted so many others in a way that he will never be forgotten; A selfless cherished soul, deeply loved by family and countless friends who will be greatly missed.

He was born September 16, 1965 to Harold W. and Carol M. (Anthony) Crockett in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Tom graduated from Benton High School in 1985 and then earned his bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering at Missouri Western State University.

Tom married Christine Ann Lingerfelt on June 20, 1992.

He worked for Nestle Purina as a supervisor for many years.

Tom enjoyed spending his time fishing and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Chris; siblings, Patricia Crockett, Harold Wayne Crockett (Stacy), Scott Crockett (Melissa), and Mandy Jo Crockett; nephews, Scott and Chance Saliger; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was born June 15, 1928 to John and Gladys (Pistole) Morris.

Vivian attended Northwest, MO State Teachers College. She taught school before becoming a full-time wife and mother.

On April 16, 1949, she married Gerald Harris. To this union 6 children were born.

Her husband Gerald passed away February 22, 2021.

She is survived by her children, Judy Harris, Jerry (Kathy) Harris, Mark (Lin) Harris, Greg (Tricia) Harris, Scott (Suzanne) Harris. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. One sister Louise White and 2 sisters-in-law.

Preceding Vivian in death was her husband, Gerald, a daughter Sheila, and her 3 brothers.

A private inurnment will be held along with her late husband and daughter. Inurnment Whispering Pines Cremation Garden at St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary Colette Hull passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Hiawatha, Kansas. Mary was born in Saint Rose Hospital, Great Bend, KS, to Evelyn and Byron Hull in 1952. &nbsp;

Mary earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Communications in 1974 from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS, and her Master of Arts in Speech Communication in 1993 from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp;

As she was earning her undergraduate degree, Mary worked as costume designer for the college theatre department and appeared in many of the college’s theatre productions. Upon graduation, Mary was on the faculty of Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, Wichita, KS. &nbsp;She enjoyed her time there, producing the school’s main stage theatre productions and teaching classes in speech and theatre. Mary went on to work for the University of Missouri (KC) in its costume design area, as an assistant to noted designer Vincent Scassellati. Both Scassellati and department head Dr. Patricia McIlrath praised Mary’s dedication.&nbsp;

Mary was a teacher, a musician, and a writer. &nbsp;She had an immense passion for the theatre. She pursued singing as a pastime throughout her life, and she enjoyed hiking and camping in the Flint Hills of Kansas.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of many years (Steven Birdsey Klacsmann), brother Christopher N. Hull, and sister Julia Hull McCurry. She is survived by two sisters and four brothers.

Before her death, Mary Colette identified the following organizations for charitable contributions in her name: Freedom from Religion Foundation (ffrf.org) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (peta.org).

Mary Colette Hull was laid to rest in a private ceremony on July 19, 2025.

Charles Francis “Charlie” Hopp, passed peacefully into his heavenly home Friday, July 25, 2025, at Twin Oaks Health &amp; Rehab in Lansing, Kansas. &nbsp;He was 98.

Charlie as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was born in Maryville, Missouri, September 10, 1926, one of eight children born to Clarence Abraham and Ada Belle Ray. &nbsp;He grew up on a farm in near Hiawatha, Kansas and Falls City, Nebraska areas where he attended country schools.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a true patriot! &nbsp;Being a devoted husband and father, his philosophy was “God, Family, Country”

He met and fell in love with the love of his life, Maxine May Beaman. &nbsp;They were united in marriage on September 27th, 1949, and were blessed with 70 years of marriage. &nbsp;They lived nearly all of their married life in Highland where they raised their family.

Maxine preceded him in death on September 15, 2019. &nbsp;Charlie is also preceded in death by an infant daughter Tony Kay, his parents; seven brothers and sisters.

Growing up on a farm, he knew the value of dedicated work. &nbsp;Charlie spent most of his working life owning and operating a tractor trailer, delivering freight all across the United States. &nbsp;When he retired from trucking, he was the maintenance supervisor for USD#429 of Troy for a number of years.

Survivors include a son Rick Hopp (Kathy) of St. Joseph, Missouri, a daughter Debbie Zlab (Dave) of Lansing, Kansas, seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; with many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

Due to the hot weather, graveside services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, August 1, at the Highland Christian Church. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery. &nbsp;Military honors a courtesy of Dillion Bales American Legion and Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 12 noon until 5 p.m. Thursday to sign the register book. &nbsp; The family will meet with friends a half hour before service at Church.

Donald Ray Barnett, a devoted family man and outdoorsman, passed away on July 22, 2025 at the age of 87. Born in Plattsburgh, Missouri to Paul and Myrtle Barnett, Donald was raised by his loving grandparents, Charley and Sarah Barnett.

Donald spent his life working hard and pursuing his passions. He was known for selling rabbits and squirrels to many residents in Plattsburg, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. He worked tirelessly for the East Buchanan C-1 school and later for the City of Saint Joseph as a bricklayer for the sewer department.

Donald's love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies of fishing and hunting. He shared these passions with his children and many others, teaching them the joys of the great outdoors.

Donald's family was his greatest treasure. He is survived by his children, Barry Barnett, Paul Davis, Cassandra (Allen) Henley, and Sean (Melynda) Barnett; his siblings, Dalvin (Lavetta) Barnett, Marie Pugh, and John Barnett; his ex-wife Sabrina (Dick) Campbell; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his brother Clifford, sister Dorothy Maupin, parents, grandparents, and grandson Gabriel.

Donald's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created with his loved ones.

Sonny was born on August 6, 1942, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of John and Mary (Balsom) Cairo. After graduating from Atchison High School in 1960, Sonny joined the Army and was enlisted until 1969. Sonny worked at Bradken doing moulding until his retirement. Sonny married Lenora Welch on June 28, 1986. They were married thirty-five years before Lenora passed away in 2022. Sonny was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and listened to the Bible on his CD player daily. He enjoyed playing pitch, watching deer and eagles, mushroom hunting, target shooting with his children and grandchildren, watching his favorite show Gunsmoke, and listening to Cher. He was a big Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan.

Sonny is survived by sons Aaron (Kylee) Cairo, Atchison, KS, Joshua (Jennifer Hernandez) Cairo, Atchison, KS, Rick (Rhonda) Cairo, Atchison, KS, and Mike (Roberta) Cairo, Horton, KS, daughters Angie (Keith) Cairo-Clemens, Atchison, KS, Meredith Scherer, Atchison, KS, Christy (Derek) Noll, Horton, KS, Tina (J.R.) Wanda spent most of her youth in the Kansas City area, and attended Northeast High School. On March 22, 1947, she married Thomas Stufflebean in Paola, KS. She worked as a Seamstress for Sun Garment and H.D. Lee, and later worked a few years at Peachtree Door. She enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful cook. She will especially be remembered for her pies. Wanda was a member of the former Hyde Valley UMC and now Evolution UMC, where she was a member of the Quilting Circle.

Wanda was preceded in death by mother, Byrda Baker, father, Byron Lamb, husband, Thomas Stufflebean, sister, Donna Staggs, brother, Charles Lamb, and grandson, Timothy Stufflebean. Survivors include: her sons, Ronald (Teresa) Stufflebean and Thomas Stufflebean, all of St. Joseph, granddaughters, Leeanne Stufflebean and Cari Shuster, great-grandsons, Carson, Cyson, Gage, and Dreykin, 2 great-great granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born on September 22, 1971, to Greg and Rhonda Wright in her hometown St. Joseph, Missouri.

Growing up in St. Joseph, Michelle attended Lafayette High School, where her early love for history and collectibles began to shine. Her keen eye for beauty and the past would pave the way for her future. Michelle spent over 20 years as an esteemed antique dealer.

She found joy in the art of reselling, giving new life to forgotten treasures, and cooking, where she lovingly prepared meals that gathered friends and family around the table. However, Michelle's true fulfillment came from the happiness she provided to her loved ones.

She is survived by her mother and her siblings, Susan Parker, Jamie Sanchez, and Amanda Auxier. Although her father and her sibling Greg Wright Jr. preceded her in passing, the legacy of love they shared as a family will continue to resonate.

Michelle leaves behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Helen was born Sept. 8, 1937, to Rollin and Ina Brooks, and attended Weston schools. She was united in marriage to Ed Gwinn in 1962, spending 51 years together until his passing in 2013. An Avid Country music fan, Helen was a regular attendee at Cline Opry House in Weston. She was a five-year resident of Weston Senor Housing where she enjoyed chatting with her friends and neighbors. Helen was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church of Weston, MO.

Helen was preceded in death by her siblings, Carl, Jim and Willard Brooks and sisters Mary Gibbs and May Brooks. Stephanie Renee Hall, age 47, of Topeka, KS, died unexpectedly on July 17, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1977, in Russell, KS, the daughter of Albert Brian Hall and Brenda (Ehrlich). She attended schools in Oregon, MO, growing up.&nbsp;

Stephanie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts and spending time with her family. She was the life of the party, the best party planner. She lit up every room she walked in. She will always be missed by her children, Chelsea Roberts of St. Joseph, MO, Nariah Fagins of Topeka, KS; step-children, Xavier Hazelton of Topeka, KS, Tyesha Hazelton of Arrington, KS; her mother, Brenda; a brother, Tommy Hall of Emporia, KS; sisters, Jennifer McDowell of Lawrence, KS, Carmen Mudd of Oregon, MO; her step-father, Bob Patterson of Oregon, MO; and six grandchildren. Stephanie Renee Hall, age 47, of Topeka, KS, died unexpectedly on July 17, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1977, in Russell, KS, the daughter of Albert Brian Hall and Brenda (Ehrlich). She attended schools in Oregon, MO, growing up.&nbsp;Stephanie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts and spending time with her family. She was the life of the party, the best party planner. She lit up every room she walked in. She will always be missed by her children, Chelsea Roberts of St. Joseph, MO, Nariah Fagins of Topeka, KS; step-children, Xavier Hazelton of Topeka, KS, Tyesha Hazelton of Arrington, KS; her mother, Brenda; a brother, Tommy Hall of Emporia, KS; sisters, Jennifer McDowell of Lawrence, KS, Carmen Mudd of Oregon, MO; her step-father, Bob Patterson of Oregon, MO; and six grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and her closest friend Jennifer Rhyne. She is preceded in death by her father, Albert Hall.&nbsp;Stephanie has been cremated and her life will be celebrated at a later time. Stephanie Hall October 16, 1977-July 17, 2025

Velma Rose Dudeck was born in Marion County, Kansas on April 24, 1928. She was one of two children of Arthur L. and Sarah (Miller) Popp. Velma’s father passed away when she was three, and her mother later married Gottlieb Arbeiter.

Velma graduated from York, Nebraska High School. On March 30, 1952 Velma married Paul E. Dudeck. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Velma was a typical farmwife of that generation, busy with helping on the farm, gardening, canning, and raising many chickens and their four children.

Velma was also preceded in death by infant triplets; son, George; grandson, Michael Dudeck; and her brother, Lowell Popp.&nbsp;

After Paul’s death, Velma continued to live on the farm until this past May. She passed away on July 22, 2025 at the Oregon Cere Center.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, David (Anne) Dudeck, Dan (Karen) Dudeck, and Ruth (Jayson) Johnson; grandchildren, Rob (Beth) Dudeck, Matthew (Elizabeth) Dudeck, Chris (Laura) Daniel, Ashli (Jim) Wiederholt, David (Sarah) Dudeck, Joshua Dudeck, Jessica Pavlisin, Brooke (Jess) Berkey, Brittany (Brandon) Walker, and Brett (Lexi) Johnson; great grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Jackson, and Kenton Dudeck; George, John, and Jacob Dudeck; Anna and Hank Daniel; Grayson, Elli, and William Wiederholt; Noah, Hadley, and Eliana Dudeck; Georgia and Amelia Dudeck; George, Charles, Adelaide and Ruby Pavlisin; William and Jack Burkey; and Eva Mae, Colin, and Meredith Walker.

Irma White, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

She was born April 24, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Steve and Florence (Bulger) Brown.

Irma married Raymond Koontz in 1965 and to this union three sons were born. After their marriage ended, Irma was a homemaker who raised her three boys. She married Donald W. White on July 28, 2001, who preceded her in death.

Irma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Koontz; and her husband, Donald.

Survivors include sons, James and Joel Koontz; grandchildren, Chris Koontz (Elizabeth) and Lacey Koontz’ great-granddaughters, Nova Jane and Ava Marie Koontz; and her beloved cat, Casper.

Having fought the good fight, and now having finished her race here on earth, Alexine Lee Blunt, age 35, of Atchison, KS, passed peacefully on July 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.&nbsp;

Alex was born on March 4, 1990, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Jerry and Karen (Regan) Blunt. She is a 2008 graduate of Atchison High School.&nbsp;

Alex lived life to the fullest, even though she battled numerous health obstacles. She was kind, caring, loving, generous and strong. She loved drawing, coloring, caring for her animals and listening to Christian music. Alex would always be joking around with her family and friends.

Having wanted to always be a teacher because of her love of children, Alex was able to spend time at the AES kindergarten room with her aunt assisting with the kids. She cherished the time she could spend helping at the school. She attended the First Baptist Church and found great joy in their church youth group.&nbsp;

Alex's memory will forever live on and be cherished by her parents, Jerry and Karen Blunt; her brother, Tanner Blunt; and her aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Vincent &amp; Phyllis Regan and Carl and Barbara Blunt; an uncle, Tony Regan; and an aunt, Catherine “Cathy” (Regan) Gonzales.&nbsp;

Alex’s life will be celebrated on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Cooper officiating. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday evening, July 24th from 5:30-7:30 at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials in her honor may be made to the St. Benedict Catholic School Endowment to be designated to the Regan Family Memorial Scholarship or the First Baptist Church. Ruthanna Keimig, age 96, of Atchison, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 22, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a rosary to follow at 10:30 a.m. before mass. Ruthanna was born May 19, 1929, the daughter of Julius and Helena M. (Watowa) Handke. She attended Irish Point School.&nbsp;

On November 23, 1949, she and Louis William Keimig were married by Fr. Cosmos Schneider at St. Louis Church and they made their home on a farm north of Atchison their entire married life.

Ruthanna was a member of St. Louis Church and was active in the church Altar Society. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved music, playing the piano and in her younger years she liked to dance. Above all else, she loved her grandchildren and spending time making memories with them.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Judy) Keimig, Kansas City, MO, Donald (Rita) Keimig, Atchison, KS, a sister, Leona Busenbarrick, Atchison, KS, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, on October 15, 1983, and three brothers, Donald Handke, Eugene Handke and Leo Handke.&nbsp;

Ruthanna Keimig May 19, 1929-July 22, 2025

Bryce Lane Schoonover was born July 21, 1963, to James and Faire (Drewes) Schoonover of Mound City, Missouri.

On August 2, 1986, he married the love of his life, Patricia Lynn Hunziger, of Oregon, Missouri. They became the parents of three beautiful daughters, whom he loved and cherished. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Bryce enjoyed growing up working alongside his parents at Schoonover Oil Company, Inc., where he was the current owner/operator. He was an honest, upright and hard-working man who never met a stranger.

He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Mound City and a loyal soldier in the Lord’s army. The most important thing to him was his relationship with Jesus Christ. His main mission in life was to tell others about God’s plan of salvation through Him. “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:11-12 NIV)

Bryce passed away on his 62nd birthday, July 21, 2025 at a St. Joseph hospital after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke.

He was preceded in death by his father, James; brother-in-law, Tommy Quick, and an unborn child and grandchild.

In addition to his wife, Patty, he is survived by his daughters: Anna Statesel (James), Laura Lewis (Kolby) and Sarah Bridgman (Josh); mother, Faire; grandchildren: Evelynn Rose Statesel, Brylee Joy Lewis, and Henry Bryce and Ivy Louise Bridgman; siblings: Jon Schoonover (Kayla), Jill Asher (Dave) and Gay Quick (Allan Markt); numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and a great host of friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church in Mound City. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. The service will be live-streamed on the church’s Facebook page.

Bryce Schoonover July 21, 1963-July 21, 2025

Spencer Dean Brown, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on July 21, 2025, at the age of 88. &nbsp;He was born October 23, 1936, in Cameron, Missouri, to the late Harold Spencer and Thelma (Dwyer) Brown.

Spencer was a Benton graduate and over the road truck driver for 35 years. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of the 17th Street Community of Christ Church, where he served faithfully as an elder. &nbsp;He officiated weddings and baptisms and was a proud member of the church choir and a beloved member of the community.

Spencer had a lifelong passion for aviation. &nbsp;He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, spending countless hours perfecting his craft and sharing the hobby with others. &nbsp;He also had a love for racing, having completed in small-format race cars and following NASCAR with great enthusiasm.

Surviving are his wife Marilyn, four daughters, Debbie Burns (Mike), Deana Moran, Rogene Johnston (Steve), Cindy Martin; brother Lionel Brown (Karen); other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife Mary Davis; daughter Kathy Code; brother Don Brown; grandson, Justin Martin; great-grandson Cyler Matthews.

Spencer was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 17th Street Community of Christ Church of the St. Joseph Animal Shelter.
