Marvin “Leroy” Groce, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026.
Born July 24, 1951, Leroy was known for his quick humor, hardworking spirit, and love of a cold beer shared with good company. Leroy proudly served in the US Army after high school and was awarded the Army Commendation medal for his “exceptionally meritorious” service. He worked over 20 years at ACME Vending and alongside his beloved Rosie, operated the Long Branch Tavern for many years building lifelong friendships and memories.
He was preceded in death by partner, Rose Marie Masterson, his children, Heather Groce, Bobby Masterson, Mark Masterson, and Debbie Schneider; grandchildren, Jeremy Nickols and Kristin Schneider, and siblings, Edward Groce, Sr., Larry Crump and Phillip Haynes.
He is survived by his children Jerry Masterson (Kimmi), Tina Masterson(Timmy), along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Steven Haynes, Elizabeth Haynes, Lisa Haynes, Vern Haynes and Mack Haynes.
Leroy’s laughter, stories and strong presence will live on in everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.
Graveside Services 3:00 PM Saturday, February 28, 2026, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO. Celebration of Life at a later date. Cremation under the direction of Simplify Cremations & Funerals.
