Ronald “Ron” Eugene Meinert, age 84, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was born on May 24, 1941, in Easton, Kansas, to Albert and Edith Meinert. He graduated from Easton High School, then honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963, achieving the rank of E-4 Specialist. Ron fought in the Vietnam War and received several honors for his dedicated service. Following his military career, Ron worked proudly as a truck driver, retiring in 1999. He was a hardworking man who cherished the simple joys in life and was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church.
Ron married Marie Massmann in 1965, and together they had two children. In 1988, he married Linda Lyons, and together they built a beautiful blended family filled with love and lasting memories.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife Linda, and their family: Belinda Shade, Bart and Michelle Meinert, Kelly Crowder, and Karena and MikeMcFarlin, Several grandchildren and great grandchildren all of Leavenworth, Kansas. He is also survived by his sister, Selma Harmon of Leavenworth, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Albert Meinert; his sisters Nellie Meinert and Charlene McCullough; and his brother Lester Meinert. Ron will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his gift for storytelling, and his ability to make every conversation meaningful. He found great joy in spending time with his friends and family, sharing laughter and wisdom alike.
The Meinert family would like to express their deep gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, especially Ciji Pina and her team, Reverend Carolin Morrison (Chaplain), Elizabeth Goff (Social Worker), and Brook Black (RN) for their compassionate care and support during Ron’s finaldays.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to Ron’s heart.Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. At Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048Per Ron’s wishes, cremation will follow. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Ron’s legacy of kindness, humor, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
