Lydia Jeanne Smith, 80, Agency, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at her home.

She was born on December 6, 1943, to James H. and Lillian L. (Funk) Hand in South Bend, Indiana.

Jeanne attended Kansas State University and earned her bachelor's degree in education and physical education. She worked as a dedicated elementary teacher in West Chicago, Illinois and in Sioux City, Iowa. During the summer, she worked as a Campfire Girls counselor. Another accomplishment she achieved was having her pilot’s license.

On August 30th, 1964, she married James D. Smith. For nearly 60 years, they embarked on many adventures together.

She was a member of the Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church in St. Joseph. She was also a former member of the Christian Women’s Club in Sioux City and was active with Pivotal Point and Mid-City Excellence in St. Joseph. Jeanne served as a mentor for fellow Christian women as she helped them navigate life’s challenges.

Jeanne was an avid gardener who also enjoyed riding motorcycles and going for horseback trail rides with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, James D. Smith; children, Allyn Smith (Pamela) and Amy Papageorges (Pete); six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

John Henry Hayse, 85, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024. He was born October 25, 1938, to John Edward and Minnie (Nabower) Hayse, in Grand Island, NE, and grew up on the family farm in Wood River, NE.

John had a great sense of humor and loved life, making the most of every day. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed fishing, traveling, snow skiing, and playing cards with family. He was an avid sports fan who never missed a Cornhuskers or Chiefs game.

He was a man of many skills and worked in various trades including carpentry and construction.

He made long lasting friendships and enjoyed daily walks with his friend, Ivan.

Survivors include Monica Tilley, his companion of 25 years and his children: John Scott Hayse of Denver, CO; Cristy (Jeff) Lockwood of Knoxville, TN; Kim (Gary) Burgess of St. Joseph; Eric Schlundt-Bodien of Casper, WY; Meredith (Jeremy) Colson of Savannah, MO; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and sister Mary Reinhardt of PA. Kathryn Gayle Clary, 88, of Troy, Kansas passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at her home.

Kathryn was born on September 15, 1935, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Raymond and Nellie (McComb) Kerns.&nbsp;

She attended Gower high School and was a homemaker.

Kathryn married Harold Lloyd “Pete” Clary on September 6, 1957, in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Cathy Jenkins, five brothers and two sisters.

Friends remember her as Drum Majorette in the Atchison High School Band in 1947, 1948,1949. &nbsp;After graduation she was employed by Kansas Power and Light CO. for approximately nine years, later worked at the Exchange National Bank for a short time, Kansas State Grain Inspection Office part time and was a Real Estate saleswoman for Harmon Realty until retiring in 1994. Ruth Ann was a member the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post #1175, Humane Society and a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, working in her home and yard.

She and Edwin Sinclair were married at the First Baptist Church on September 23, 1951. Edwin passed away August 26, 2002. Ruth is survived by a son, Scott and Karen Sinclair, Warrensburg, MO, a daughter, Julie and Bob Hanf, Atchison, KS, a daughter in law Tina Sinclair, Lawrence, KS, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was also preceded by her parents, a son Jeff Sinclair, and a sister Beverly Sutter.

(Angela) Scherer, Atchison, KS., a brother, Richard King, Falls City, NE, and two sisters, Barbara Wolters, Atchison, KS and Debbie King, Hiawatha, KS, eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Stewartsville, Missouri… Ann Elizabeth Kerns (Mikkelson), age 52, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Monday, April 8, 2024, at her Stewartsville, Missouri home after a long battle with liver disease.

Ann was born July 8, 1971, in Arlington Heights, Illinois to Dean Willard Mikkelson and the late Linda Rae Umberger (Flo).

She graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1990 in Mountain Grove, Missouri and Vatterott College with a cosmetology degree in 1999 in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

On October 23, 2007, Ann was joined in marriage with Rocky Lee Kerns. They built a home in Stewartsville, Missouri where they would raise their family together.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ann worked as a cosmetologist and cosmetic saleswoman before becoming a stay-at-home mother to her children.

Ann loved to cut hair, try fun makeup looks, craft flower arrangements, and plant flowers. She also had a love for fashion and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her son, Chance; mother, Linda Umberger (Flo); father, Donald Umberger; mother, Cheri Mikkelson; paternal grandfather &amp; grandmother, Curtis &amp; Doris Mikkelson; and maternal grandfather &amp; grandmother, Arlo &amp; Hilma Flo.

She is survived by her husband, Rocky Kerns; 4 children, Jake Kerns, Charity Page, River Page, and Emma Kerns; father, Dean Mikkelson; siblings, Clark (Renee) and Bill Mikkelson, Erika (Mike) Kane-Sexton; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

 Frank was born on March 23, 1941, in Cummings, KS., the son of Jess and Mary (Rhodes) Lassen. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1958 and joined the United States Navy. Mr. Lassen served in the Navy for over 20 years aboard several carriers and served as a P-3 Orion Flight Engineer, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in August 1979. Frank then worked as the Plant Maintenance Supervisor for the Kansas State Prison in Lansing, KS for several years. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Lillian, AL, and formerly a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the Board of Directors, as an Elder, taught Sunday School for the middle school students for over 30 years and was a Kennedy Caller. Frank also taught Bible Studies at Vintage Park, Trinity Place, Medicalodge and Senior Village. He was a member of Kiwanis, Optimist Club, the V.F.W. Post # 1175, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Fleet Reserve Association. Frank, a devout Christian, was always eager to talk about Jesus and building a relationship with God. Frank loved family and friends, he enjoyed visiting around the kitchen table, playing cards, hunting, fishing and eating out.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was married to Loretta J. Boatright on Aug. 11, 1984, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She survives at the home in Winthrop, MO. Additional survivors include a son John (Gracette) Lassen, Pensacola, FL, daughters Judith Lassen and Barry McCullers, Golden Valley, AZ, Leilani (Sonny) Vincent, Bailey MS, Jennifer Lassen, Pensacola, FL, a brother Don (Cindy) Lassen, Cumings, KS, sister in law Shirley Lassen, Cummings, KS, numerous nieces and nephews, eleven grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jess (Mary) Lassen, brothers Elmer, Henry, Roy, and Harold Lassen.

Mary L. Pullen, 92, Savannah, MO passed away Wednesday April 10, 2024 at Oregon Care Center in Oregon, MO. She was born August 17, 1931 in Oregon, MO to Kenneth &amp; Pauline (Caroll) Hanner. She married Donald Pullen in Oregon, MO on October 17, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 2019.&nbsp;

Our Mom especially loved her Lord Jesus Christ and serving Him for most of her life. She also pursued to be the homemaker; wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, while enjoying special moments with her best of friends. Gardening, plants, flowers, fruit trees and canning were her delight. She was an excellent seamstress, loved to read books and did lots of antiquing. She often volunteered at her church, local hospital and care facilities. She played the organ some and loved to cook. No one could beat her wits at crossword puzzles. Mary Louise Pullen was our Mom and she will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

Gary Leland Heinrichs 74, of Easton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at his home. He was born September 7, 1949 in King City, MO, son of Crystal and Eugene Heinrichs. He graduated from the last class held at Easton High School in 1968, and he also attended 1 year of computer courses. In 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served 4 years, and was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK, being Honorably Discharged as a SGT. Gary married Peggy Rhodes on February 14, 1972 in Topeka, KS. He worked for 45 years with the same company, which began as Missouri Chemical COOP, and Retired as a Master Operator from Land of Lakes. 

Gary enjoyed fishing and wood working. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was a member of the American Legion Post 393, and Freeman Chapel Church. 

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Heinrichs, and sister, Twila Ellington. 

Survivors include: mother, Crystal Heinrichs of Easton, wife of 52 years, Peggy Heinrichs of the home, children, Jimmy (Traci) Heinrichs of Agency, Johnny (Kristen) Heinrichs of Easton, Jason &nbsp;Heinrichs of Helena, and Jennifer (Keith) Kline of Osborn, brothers, Dale Heinrichs of Easton and Guy (Stella) Heinrichs of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Jonathon (Alanna), Alexander, Eric, Nikita, Hunter, Drake, McKenna, Kevin, and Cody, great-grandchildren, Emily, Tyler, Marshal, Bentlee, Andrew, Scarlett, and James.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jean Anne Rausin, &nbsp;81, a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, MO passed away peacefully on Monday April 8, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born on October 5, 1942 in St. Joseph, MO., to her parents Nora (Jackson) and John Rausin. Jean Anne was preceded in death by both her parents and her God Son, Cody Harter.&nbsp;

She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1960 and began work soon after for the Missouri National Guard. Jean Anne worked as a civilian worker for 41 years as an Administrative Assistant for the Wing Commander at the 139th Airlift Wing in St. Joseph, MO. Her job allowed her to travel, receive numerous awards, and recognition for her dedication and hard work.&nbsp;

When Jean Anne retired they honored her by naming the auditorium in the Administrative Building, Rausin Auditorium. She acquired numerous friends and colleagues that turned into family during her time at the base. She continued to meet with many of them after her retirement for monthly lunches. After retiring she enjoyed her part-time positions at Rod’s Hallmark and Kirkland’s.

Jean Anne was an avid animal lover and had numerous dogs over the years that were her children. Over the years she made many donations to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter and to Friends of the St. Joseph Animal Shelter. Jean Anne loved watching old western movies, especially ones with John Wayne, and going out for ice cream. &nbsp;

A memorial visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 PM, on Wednesday evening , April 24, 2024 &nbsp;at the Heaton Bowman Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel.

Glenn A. Butts, 76, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer on April 11, 2024. &nbsp;Glenn was born February 24, 1948 in Kansas City, KS, to Glenn Angus and Wilma J. (Higgins) Butts.

&nbsp;Glenn was a graduate of North Platte High School in Dearborn, MO, and served his &nbsp;country honorably as Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. &nbsp;Glenn retired from Johnson Controls after 28 years of service.

He married Karen K. Salzman on June 24, 1967 at First Baptist Church in Platte City, MO., and she survives. &nbsp;Also surviving are a son John C. Butts; daughter Mendy Stephens (Shane); grandchildren, Nick, Jaxson, Bailey, Karley, Jaeson, and Jacob Butts, Cassidy Routh, Luke and Jake Stephens; sister-in-law Melanie Waldroff (Robert); nephew Shawn &nbsp;Waldroff (Crystal); niece Stacy Anderson (Chris); other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother and sister-in-law Richard and Judith Butts.

He attended Grace Calvary Chapel. &nbsp;Glenn enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Ronald Alan Wethered, 61, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024.

He was born February 2, 1963, in Kansas City, Kansas to Jim and Lois (Spencer) Wethered.

He was a correctional officer at the Western Correctional Center in Cameron, Missouri.

His hobbies included crafting beautiful custom chainmail jewelry, investing himself in nostalgic video games, and enjoying a bountiful genre array of music. He held high interest in history, space, and Irish/folk customs and culture. He frequented the renaissance and enjoyed immersing himself in role play and fantasy. Imagination was in his nature.

Ron was known for his extroverted personality, commanding energy, and expressive laughter. He used his natural sense of humor as a sense of purpose to bring joy and a smile to anyone he met.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Rhonda; his son, Austin Wethered; his parents; siblings, Rebecca Wethered, Brenda Wethered, Dale Wethered, and Cathy Norgard; and his beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

King City, MO: Miles Everett Rhoad, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center due to complications from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Known by everyone as Everett, he was born October 10, 1937, to Edgar Clark “Bud” and Laura Pearl (Price) Rhoad at their home in DeKalb County. He attended King City High School where he met his future wife Ruthann Rainey and graduated in 1955.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Everett and Ruthann were married on November 30, 1957, at the home of Ruthann’s parents’ east of King City with family and friends attending. During the first two years of marriage, they made their home in St Joseph where both were employed, before returning to King City where they remained.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruthann; their three children, Kimberly Ann (Larry) Gonzalez, Platte City, Scott Eric (Emily) Rhoad, Higginsville, and Jill Diane (Chris) Rhoad-Cook, Smithville, five grandchildren, Hannah (Kevin) Sartin, Knob Noster, Elijah Rhoad, St. Louis, Rebekah Rhoad, Boise, Idaho, Michaela and Jackson Rhoad-Cook, Smithville, and four great-grandchildren, Noah, Sarah, Isaac and Isaiah Sartin, Knob Noster.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Everett is also survived by four sisters: Mary Lou (Bob) Riney, Aurora, IL, Joyce English, St. Joseph, Linda (Jim) Mason, Maysville, and Laura (Steve) Gerdes Elwood, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, five brothers, Roy Gene, Earl Dean, Gisty Lee, Clarence Edgar, Warren Dee, two infant sisters, Ellen Louise and Betty Jo, and twin infant grandchildren Theresa Mariah and Fredrick Malachi Rhoad in 1993.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Everett was a Christian man and a longtime member of the Hammer Memorial United Methodist Church serving on various committees over the years including church board President.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Everett was a carpenter. He started his own construction company in the mid-1960s and built pole barns for many years before retiring in 2002. You could often find him puttering around in his shop working on various things. He also farmed and raised cattle for many years.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He fulfilled many thankless jobs in the King City community by serving on the school board, New Haven Apartments board, and the King City Cemetery board where he most recently served as President. He also served two terms as Mayor.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; When the first wind farm came to the area, he became fascinated with the process of erecting a windmill and spent a lot of time watching and learning about them, making many friends along the way.  He felt that there needed to be a place to view the windmills and to learn about alternative energies, so he and Lois Reynolds went to work to create what is now known as the Tri-County Alternative Energy Education &amp; Visitor Center.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In keeping with his giving spirit, he was an organ donor including his pacemaker.&nbsp;

Black Friday the stock market crashed, and The Great Depression began.

87 days later, on January 21st, 1930 in Denver, Colorado. Blessing Maag and Hugh Doan Watson welcomed their first surviving son, John Dudley Watson. John was a child of the depression. Seven years later a baby sister Dorothy Jeanne was born. The family of four then moved into a new home built especially for them. This home stayed in the family for 80 years, through four generations.

John attended and graduated, with honors, from Denver’s East High School in 1948. It was there he became a clarinet player and occupied the first chair in The Denver Youth Symphony. After graduation it was on to Oberlin College and then Yale Divinity School.&nbsp;

John married Diane McClintock just before his senior year at Yale. Before they left to serve his first congregation in Troy, NY they welcomed twin sons Hugh Dudley and William John (Bill). The family of four was completed with the arrival of Kathryn Elizabeth (Kate) while John was serving as the Associate Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield, IL. The family made one more stop in Glendale, OH before finally settling down in St. Joseph, Mo.&nbsp;

In February of 1970 John was called to serve as pastor at First Presbyterian Church at 301 N. Seventh Street. He went to work establishing a vital church and building a congregation committed to serving the Christian faith with the spoken word and magnificent music lead by Jerry Anderson. In 1982 he received his Doctorate of Ministry from McCormick seminary in Chicago. His concern for the Christian mission involved serving all of God’s children.

John headed the committee that saved the Social Welfare Board when one of our mayors decided it was not the responsibility of the city to maintain health or dental care for those who could not afford it. Need a ride to work or the hospital? When it was decided it was no longer profitable to run city buses, John headed the committee that put together our current transit system.

Hungry? The Open Door Food Kitchen was the brain child that developed as he watched folks coming to the downtown churches asking for money for food.

Music is for the soul. John loved beautiful music and attended the Kansas City Symphony and Opera. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Symphony board.

As an avid reader he lined his home with books and served on the St. Joseph Public Library board.

In retirement his joy was planning another trip. Mexico, England, France, Italy, Israel, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, and a cruise on the Mediterranean.&nbsp;

He was granted a lifetime membership in the Downtown Rotary. He also served on United Way selection teams and the Arts Council. He was an active member of the Heartland Presbytery serving as a moderator, an interim presbytery executive and delegate to General Assembly three times and was chair of multiple committees.&nbsp;

In retirement he served churches in: Hiawatha, Ks; Prairie Village, Ks.; North Kansas City, Mo.; Liberty, Mo.; as well as Hope Church in Cosby, Mo.

John’s life was a life of service to his loving God, the church of Jesus Christ, to the community, and to his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Diane, sons Hugh Watson (Sallie Tulchin), Bill Watson, daughter Kate McAllen, granddaughters Sarah McAllen Hicks (Craig), Cassandra McAllen, and great granddaughters Chloe Hicks and Elizabeth Cline, nieces Susan Usherwood, Sandi Pauhlke and nephew Ted Denson.

She was born November 16, 1943 to Francis A. and Evelyn R. (Heath) Crown in Chicago, Illinois.

Barbara married Charles “Tony” A. Haley on July 6, 1991. They shared 32 years of marriage before his passing on July 6, 2023.

She attended nursing school in St. Joseph and worked in the area following her graduation.

Barbara enjoyed playing her baby grand piano and feeding and watching the birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles.

Barbara J. Haley 1943 - 2024

Todd Lee Wood, 58, of Wheatland, MO passed away April 5, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospice House with family by his side.

He was born December 31, 1965, at home in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents William E. Wood, Sr. and Norma Jean (Bickelhaupt) Wood lived in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Bean Lake, MO when Todd was 14. He attended West Platte High School in Weston, MO. While living in Kansas City, he played baseball in the North Kansas City League. He was a center fielder with an arm like a rocket. He set a record and hit a home run at 504 Feet. Todd tried out for the Royals when he was 17 years old. He finished his baseball career at West Platte High School and helped coach youth leagues in the summer. 

Todd worked for his father and brother in residential painting for several years. He worked as a plate department lead at Lifetouch Publishing for 25 years, where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed fishing at Smithville Lake, but his favorite fishing spot was Pomme de Terre lake near his home in Wheatland. Todd also enjoyed hunting, camping, and flying RC airplanes.

Todd was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Tovey G. McRill, and Tammy Pemberton, and his brother Frederick W. Wood. He is survived by his sons, Christopher D. Wood and John Jacob “Jake” (Whitney) Wood; his grandchildren Tyler Wood, Layla Wood, Tristan Wood, and Blakeley Wood, his sister Tina K. (Mitch) Raney, his brother William E. Wood, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Following cremation, a visitation will be held 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Platte City, MO; followed by a celebration of life ceremony at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be given to: First Baptist Church Platte City, 17385 Hwy. 371, Platte City, MO 64079.

While living in Kansas City, he played baseball in the North Kansas City League. He was a center fielder with an arm like a rocket. He set a record and hit a home run at 504 Feet. Todd tried out for the Royals when he was 17 years old. He finished his baseball career at West Platte High School and helped coach youth leagues in the summer. Todd worked for his father and brother in residential painting for several years. He worked as a plate department lead at Lifetouch Publishing for 25 years, where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed fishing at Smithville Lake, but his favorite fishing spot was Pomme de Terre lake near his home in Wheatland. Todd also enjoyed hunting, camping, and flying RC airplanes.Todd was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Tovey G. McRill, and Tammy Pemberton, and his brother Frederick W. Wood. He is survived by his sons, Christopher D. Wood and John Jacob “Jake” (Whitney) Wood; his grandchildren Tyler Wood, Layla Wood, Tristan Wood, and Blakeley Wood, his sister Tina K. (Mitch) Raney, his brother William E. Eulah Jane “Pud” Taylor, 83, of Dearborn, MO passed away, March 17, 2024.

She was born on July 29, 1940 to Euel “Did” and Maggie “Janie” (Logston) Sellars in Dearborn, MO where she grew up. Eulah graduated from North Platte High School.&nbsp;

On July 7, 1972 she was united in marriage to Silas Taylor. After their marriage they lived in Dearborn where they made their home.

Eulah worked for Hallmark Cards for 36 years in Leavenworth, KS.She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Jeanie and Galen and Arnold.

Eulah is survived by her daughter, Jane Ann Cowan and husband, Jim; nephew, Brian (Rachelle) Arnold; and great-niece, Mariah Arnold.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice.

Teri Lynn May, 75, of Smithville, MO passed away April 8, 2024.

She was born on March 3, 1949, to Leslie Robert and Doris F. (Dean) Anderson in Long Beach, California. Growing up in a Navy family, she lived in several areas including Honolulu, HI, Bethesda, MD and Ridgecrest, CA. Teri attended high school in Ridgecrest, CA.

On July 29, 1967, she was united in marriage to Peter Paul May, III at the All Faith Chapel on China Lake Naval Station. After their marriage they lived in Gladstone, MO, Diamond Bar, CA, and Carlsbad, CA. In 1993, Pete and Teri established their family home in Smithville, MO.&nbsp;

Teri worked in the family business as an office manager, retiring in 1999. After her retirement, she volunteered for local animal rescue organizations and she fostered numerous dogs. Teri took a lot of pride in her family, house and dogs. She worked hard to be a central safe place for everyone. Teri’s joys in life were people, pets and plants.&nbsp;

She won several dog shows with her award winning Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs. Teri was an avid genealogist and documented the family’s history. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, crafts, her horses and most of all being with her family.&nbsp;

Teri was preceded in death by her parents Les and Doris Anderson and sister-in-law Diane Simpson.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pete May; her children Peter P. (Kerryn) May IV, Mary (Mary Leahy) May and Paula Mercer; grandchildren Jasmine Mercer, Megan Mercer, Thomas Mercer, Madilynn May, and Elijah May; sister Carol Apt and Patti (Bill) Tongate; sisters-in-law Barbara (Jim) McCroskie, Jan (Bob) Turner, and Laurie Allen; brother-in-law John May; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13th at Vineyard Church, 12300 Arrowhead Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64165

Patsy Valliant, age 70, of Atchison, KS, died peacefully on March 15, 2024, at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Patsy Valliant, age 70, of Atchison, KS, died peacefully on March 15, 2024, at the Atchison Medicalodge.Patsy was born on April 13, 1953, in Concordia, Kansas, the daughter of the late Lila (Revell) Patterson and LeRoy Patterson. She attended Concordia Public Schools and graduated from Concordia High School in 1971. She continued her education at Cloud County Junior College and earned her bachelor degree in Business Administration and Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS, in 1975. Patsy was always a hard worker from a very young age. After graduating from college, she began with a credit union in Norton, KS, as a loan officer and then transferred to the Norton State Hospital as the business manager until moving to Atchison, KS, in 1988. She found her true passion of employment in Atchison, serving as an Eligibility Determination Specialist, Case Manager and Case Worker for SRS. She was very passionate about helping those in need through her role and made a difference in countless peoples’ lives until her retirement in 2013.Patsy was a people person and would always find someone to enjoy conversation with, whether it was her neighbors on her daily walk with her dog, Bandit, or a stranger throughout her day, she loved conversing with others. She enjoyed caring for her favorite plants, African Violets, at her home and reading romance novels.She met Terry Valliant in August of 1971, and they were married on August 19, 1973, at the Methodist Church in Concordia, KS. They began their family and have two sons, Alex Valliant (Sabrina Burge) and Tim Valliant (Amanda), and now have four grandchildren, Lani Valliant, Alex Valliant, Zaryah Burge and Kensi Valliant. Patsy has one surviving brother, Gary (Kathy) Patterson, Oklahoma City, OK, also surviving are nieces and nephews and many family friends.Patsy loved making memories with her family, and she never missed a sporting event of her children growing up, whether it was the countless hours in the gym during wrestling matches, watching baseball games or cheering during the cross country meets. She would not have traded those times for anything. She loved camping and fishing, and even had her boys trained to bait her hook and retrieve her caught fish. Patsy and Terry travelled the world together to visit their son and grandchildren at every chance they could and all their free time was preferred to be spent with their family.
