Deborah Lois Mategorin, 77, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away and entered heaven on April 15, 2025, after courageously fighting state 4 cancer for over a decade.
She was born August 30, 1947, in Stamford, Connecticut to Williams and Beatrice (Raine) Hunt. Debbie spent most of her childhood in that area and New Jersey until moving to Missouri then California and finally returning to Missouri.
Debbie had spent most of her work in the retail fields in various stores. However, she also definitely had a wide range of experiences of work. She once helped repo a vehicle for a bank she worked for at a younger age and after she retired, she chose to go work as a school lunch lady just so she could see her grandsons a little bit more.
Debbie and her daughter Barbara were inseparable, where you found one you would find the other. Debbie would sometimes say it was them against the world, that is until her two grandsons, Michael and Gabriel came into her world. From that moment on they became her entire existence. Some of Debbie's fondest memories are walking the zoos and animal attractions enjoying the animals Gabe loved so much or watching Nascar with Michael and watching his rock band play shows. Whatever her grandson's showed interest in, it became her interest too. As her grandsons grew, all of their friends found out quickly that they were always welcomed by her, and she soon became "Grandma" to all of them.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her daughter and best friend, Barbara Werner (Jeff); grandsons Michael and Gabriel Werner; sister, Bea Pavelko (Al); brother William Hunt, Jr; nephews, Neil Pavelko and Glenn Pavelko (Kelly) and many other extended family and friends/
Memorial Mass will be Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
