Nancy Sue Collar Sexton, 94, Maysville, died March 14, 2025 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at the United Methodist Church in Maysville, MO. Funeral services will follow at Noon.
Sue was born August 17, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, to Linus Royal Collar and Lillian Martha (Swatek) Collar. She lived in Chicago, Cicero, and Western Springs, Illinois, until 1941 when the family moved to Burbank, California. After graduation from Burbank High School, Sue moved to Mexico City, Mexico with her family.
Sue came to Columbia, Missouri, where she graduated from Stephens College with an Associate Arts degree in 1949. She received a BS in Elementary Education degree from Missouri Western State College in 1971, and an MS in Education degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1976. She later earned certification from the State of Missouri as Special Education Director and Elementary Principal. Sue taught in the Maysville R-1 School District from 1971 until she retired in 2003. She cared deeply for all of her students.
While attending Stephens College, Sue met the love of her life, Wayne Sexton. They were married in Mexico City, Mexico on December 15, 1950. Wayne and Sue then moved to Maysville, MO where they resided for the remainder of their lives.
Wayne and Sue were blessed to have three children, Randy, Sherry, and Scott. She was involved in their activities, serving as Sunday school teacher at the Maysville United Methodist Church, Cub Scout den mother, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader and PTA room mother, and president. She served as DeKalb County Heart Fund chairman, and area Girl Scout Cookie chairman.
Sue was an active member of the Maysville United Methodist Church since 1950. Sue was initiated into Chapter DV of P.E.O. in Maysville in 1955. She was a proud member of P.E.O. for the rest of her life. Sue loved playing bridge. She played with a lot of different people over the many years, but it was always a good day when she had “good cards”. Sue’s days usually began with her completing the daily crossword. As a perfectionist by nature, Sue was a master knitter and made heirloom pieces which are treasured by family and friends.
She is survived by her family: Randall Lane Sexton (Joanna), Sheryll Lynn Sexton Modeer (Victor), and Scott Wayne Sexton (Shirley). Grandchildren are: Matthew Sexton (Grace), Sarah Sexton, Michael Modeer (Hanna), Kathryn Modeer, and Conner Sexton. Sue is further survived by four great-grandchildren: Vivian Modeer, Jack Modeer, Elliott Sexton, and Zachary Sexton.
Sue’s family would like to thank Twila, all of Sue’s friends, the members of her church and members of the community for their friendship and care and for “looking out” for Sue in her quest to remain independent in her golden years.
Memorials in memory of Sue may be made to Maysville United Methodist Women, Chapter DV of P.E.O. or the Cameron Regional Medical Center Foundation.
