Kenneth Roy Bowland 1931 - 2025

Kenneth Roy Bowland passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 12, 2025 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was 93 years old.

Born November 8, 1931 on the family farm in Maitland, Missouri, he was the youngest of nine children of Oye and Elsie (Prussman) Bowland.

Kenneth graduated from Mound City High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956, during the Korean War.

He married Rachel Miller January 16, 1954 and they were blessed with four children: Susan, Cynthia, Virginia and Wesley. Rachel preceded him in death October 18, 2001.

Kenneth was a Christian man who lived out his faith. He was a Bible student and a member of the Skidmore Christian Church where he frequently taught Bible study classes.

He lived most of his adult life on his farm near Skidmore, Missouri, farming and ranching. He was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed his horses and “cowboying” with his friends and neighbors.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his siblings, Alice Baxter, Lee Bowland, Lorene Davison, Maurice Bowland, Glenn Bowland, Lynn Bowland, Donna Mae Heck and Lucille Boswell.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Greg) Wilson, Cynthia (Mike) Wankum, Virginia (Ron) Jones and a son, Merritt Wesley (Jennifer) Bowland; grandchildren Brian Wilson, Justin (Susan) Wilson, Rachel Wankum, Leah (Steven) Spears, Marie (Jacob) Rine, Emilie (Ryan) Yates, and Samantha Bowland; great-grandchildren Luke, Eric and Alice Wilson; Emma and Mina Spears; Will Yates; and several nieces and nephews.

Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Skidmore Christian Church. Interment Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
