Valerie E. Blacketer, 63, Faucett, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

She was born May 7, 1960 to Louis Lee and Betty Jo (Palmer) Hendrix in Los Angeles, California.

She married Terry Duane Blacketer on June 4, 1993. She was a devoted spouse and never left Terry’s side.

Valerie enjoyed playing the keyboard as well as baking. She loved her cats and rabbits.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Rick Hendrix.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Melony Jones and Dawn Mechelle Jones (Jason); stepchildren, Dawn D. Hoffman, Tia Blacketer, and Shawn D. Blacketer; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel Hendrix; nephews, Brian, Billy, and Shawn M. Hendrix.

Wallis “Wally” Kay Winter was born on March 24,1940 in Tracy, Minnesota to Waldo and Evelyn Winter of rural Currie, Minnesota. She died August 19, 2023 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Wally grew up as a farmer’s daughter. She was an accomplished student, played the piano and flute, and was a church organist. She graduated from Westbrook High School (Westbrook, MN) in 1958. After obtaining a teaching certificate from Wartburg College (Waverly, IA), Wally earned a Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College (Rock Island, IL) and Master’s degree from Marycrest College (Davenport, IA), both in Education. She also earned many credit hours toward her doctorate.

Wally’s Christian faith was important to her. She found solace in prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with others. She sought to deepen her understanding of the Word and her relationship with the Lord.

Wally was a resource teacher for elementary and junior high school students with learning differences for many years in Davenport, IA. She had a special gift for identifying and encouraging each student’s strengths and talents and celebrating their achievements. Upon retiring, she moved to St. Joseph and volunteered at MidCity Excellence and Bartlett Center educating at risk youth. She also served as the MidCity Excellence board secretary for many years.

Wally also had a love and compassion for animals. She had an extraordinary devotion to her feline friends (Sydney, Princess and Noble) who brought her immense joy and comfort.

Wally is survived by her former husband, Elroy Gertner, and their son, Jonathan Gertner(Dana), daughter, Bethany Kent (Trey); granddaughters Madison Gertner, Mallory Gertner, Makayla Gertner, Lauren Kent, and Meghan Kent; sisters Betty Brown, Sue Wolff (David); and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Evelyn {Rolston} Winter; sister and brother-in-law Leah and Philip Grotte; nephew Jason Wolff, brother-in-law Tim Brown.

The family will gather for a Graveside Service &amp; Inurnment at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26th, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Connie Carla Wedel (Aunt Con), daughter of Delton and Sylvia Wedel, was born February 22, 1959, in Moundridge, KS. Her earthly journey ended on August 21, 2023, in Sabetha, KS, reaching the age of 64 years after battling cancer for nearly ten years.

She spent most of her childhood years in Copeland KS with 3 years being spent in Mexico. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 8, 1970, by Minister Cecil Unruh at Copeland, KS. She was faithful to her vows until the end. Miss Wedel began her teaching career at age 20 and taught at nine different locations for 26 years, touching many lives. She had an exceptional way of helping her students, forming many lasting relationships.

Detroit, Texas, was home for numerous years. In 2005, she moved to Hiawatha, KS, to be close to her sister Donna and her family. She became part of the Hiawatha Mennonite Congregation, taking an interest in and always enjoying visiting with her church family. She was thankful for their support throughout her cancer journey.

Her survivors include her parents, Delton and Sylvia; sister Donna (Steve Schmidt) Hiawatha, KS; brother Ross Phoenix, AZ; brother Tim (Patsy) Basin, WY; sister Jill Willey Roxton, TX; brother Marlo Koehn; sister Lois Villegas, sister Anita (Michael Beasley), numerous nieces and nephews, and two special friends, Aunt Loraine Valdez and Angela Holdeman.

Preceding her in death were three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday August 25, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha, KS. Elmo Eugene Batman, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away June 2023.

He was born on February 27, 1944, to Ralph Ermin and Martha Frances (Brown) Batman in Great Bend, KS where he grew up and attended school. Elmo served a short stent with the National Guard.&nbsp;

He played music his entire life from the age of 13. In 1969, Elmo moved to Kansas City, MO and continued his music career in the area playing with several different groups. Elmo also played with several different county music stars including Freddie Fender, Grandpa Jones, and String Bean.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Martha Batman; his sisters LaWanda Mae Farrell and Frieda Ilene Orr and brother Ralph Eldon Batman.

Elmo is survived by his brother Charles Lynn Batman; close friend Glenda “the Farmer” and childhood and life long best friend whom he played music with his entire life, Fred Juergensen; nieces, nephews, and many other friends.&nbsp;

 She attended Central High School. She was a Homemaker who loved hunting, trap shooting, horses, gardening, going to auctions, and gun shows, and she loved her 2 Collies, Misty and Colt. 

Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, and a great grandchild, Kayden Crosley. 

Survivors include: her husband of 49 years, Ed Crosley Jr of the home, &nbsp;sons, Joe Edward and Eddie Crosley Jr. II of Rosendale, MO, daughters, Vicki Lynn (Gary) Stanley, Marti (Rob) Hollars, and Cyndi (Larry) Roe, a brother, Randall Reiley of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Rickey, Ariel, Bryce, Ashley, Chelsea, &nbsp;Dalton, Maddison, Dylan, Gaige, Chance, and Savannah, great grandchildren, Maggie, Karlie, Brody, Brayden, Dayton, Eastyn, Rylynn, Phynlee, Jett, Ryllan, and Addilyn.

Roger Lawrence, 90, of Easton, MO, passed away August 21, 2023. &nbsp;Roger was born December 21, 1932 in St. Joseph to Merle and Dorothy Lawrence.

Prior to retirement he worked at Meadow Gold. &nbsp;

He married Judy Egger on September 3, 1976 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; and she survives. Also surviving are a son David Lawrence and wife Tracy, daughter Laurie Boles and husband Luke; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, four children infants Billy and Sharon, two sons, Roger, Jr., Albert; four brothers Lewis, Lyle, Gene, Ralph; three sisters Shirley, Margaret, and Annabelle.

He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and the Missouri Bowlers Hall of Fame. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, and fishing.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00 am at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, in Hurlingen. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Tiffany Proctor 44, of Savannah, MO, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was born January 25, 1979 in St. Joseph, daughter of Diana and Charles Proctor. 

She graduated from Savannah High School, class of 1999. Tiffany worked various jobs, most recently at the Missouri Western State University Dining Hall. Her hobbies included making decorative wreaths, crafting, and listening to her music. She enjoyed watching the KC Chiefs, and she was a fan of Marilyn Monroe. 

Tiffany was preceded in death by her grandparents. 

Survivors: her parents, Charlie and Diana Proctor of Savannah, MO, brother, Tim (Lisa) Proctor of St. Joseph, nephew, Andrew Proctor, niece, Lauren Redfield, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jay D. Shifflett, II 37, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at his home. He was born November 9, 1985 in St. Joseph, son of Stephanie and Jay Shifflett. 

Jay graduated from Benton High School, class of 2004. He was a member of Faith United Baptist Church. Jay worked at Clarios, and was a member of IUE-CWA, Local Union 86116. He enjoyed sports, especially football and basketball, and kid's sports. Jay was a very caring man and will be remembered for his humor and contagious smile. 

Jay was preceded in death by father, Jay Shifflett. 

Survivors include: &nbsp;mother, Stephanie Shifflett of St. Joseph, sisters, Kristen (Jeremy) Martin of St. Joseph and Falynn (Adam) Patterson, of St. Joseph, sons, Jayden, Brody, and Brick Shifflett and their mother, Nicole Hayes of St. Joseph, his nieces and nephews, Trinity, Treyton, Matthew, Devon, Jaysen, Taylor, Austin, and Jax.

Jay Dean Shifflett II 1985 - 2023

Corby M. Smith, 59, passed away on August 18, 2023. Born on January 13, 1964, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Corby embodied the spirit of love and care all her life. 

Grieved by her loving husband Richard, devoted children Penny, Julia, and Jason (Ashley), brother Glenn, and nephew John, she was a beacon of warmth. In her lifetime, she brought joy to her six beloved grandchildren and was deeply loved by her children. Not forgetting, she was preceded in her journey by her beloved parents, George and Shirley.

Among her cherished memories is her marriage to Richard in 1978. A devout Christian, she professed love and grace. Corby’s exemplary character will forever resonate in the hearts she touched.

Sandy Jacobs, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023.

She was born August 13, 1944 in Denver, Colorado.

She was a teller for several local banks.

Sandy had been a Sunday School teacher at Hyde Park Foursquare Church and formerly attended the Evangelistic Temple. She was a caregiver to Rev. Evelyn Taylor for five years.

She enjoyed going to Pizza Ranch for the chicken and loved turkey legs and stuffing at holiday meals.

Sandy considered her longtime caregiver Marsha Jenkins to be family along with Marsha’s children and grandchildren. Sandy also had many friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her mother; Marsha’s grandson, Bryton Bohon; and several cousins.

Survivors include her longtime caregiver, Marsha Jenkins; Marsha’s daughters, Rayne Harper and Chrystal Szuba and their children, Jenica and Dalton; and friends, Ron and Sandy Nickols, and Marilyn Shanks.

Clayton W. “Clay” Cooper, passed into glory on August 17th, 2023, at his home at the age of 82. Clayton was born in Tulia, Texas to Harold Cooper and Fay Embry. He was raised in West Los Angeles, CA, moving to Anchorage, AK in 1955. He attended Anchorage High School meeting his future wife, Donna Biffle. They graduated in 1958, prior to Alaska becoming a state. They were married in Anchorage in 1960 and moved to California to attended college.&nbsp;

Clayton joined the Army in 1963, graduating from Fort Rucker as a helicopter pilot and served in Korea, flying the H37. He served two tours in Vietnam flying Huey gunships and as a maintenance officer. Clay was an instructor pilot at Ft. Wolters, Texas. He completed his BS in Economics from the University of Tampa in 1972, his master’s in management from Webster University in 1989. He was stationed in Ethiopia and later, Germany. He attended the Command and General Staff College, class of 1979/80. He remained as a logistics instructor, retiring from active duty in 1983. He flew helicopters for PHI in the Gulf of Mexico, later flew the air ambulance for Research Medical Center. He was a military analyst for CALL, retiring with 37 years of government service. His hobbies included carving, golfing, playing chess, riding motorcycles, hunting and he was an avid Dodgers fan. Clay and Donna enjoyed traveling extensively and were privileged to visit all seven continents.

Clayton is survived by Donna, daughter Kelle Cooper, daughter-in-law Shanda Wieburg-Cooper, grandsons, Ashton (Becca) Cooper, Colby (Elizabeth) Cooper and Jansen Cooper and great-grandson, Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig. Clayton W. Cooper 1940 - 2023

Sonja K. Tollefson (Soyland) passed away peacefully at the age of 83, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at The Pines of Hiawatha, after a courageous battle with dementia.

She was born on February 26, 1940, in Horton, Kansas the daughter of Norman and Cleo Soyland. She graduated from Horton High School with the class of 1958. After graduation, she worked at Hamel’s Department store in Horton.

She married Kenneth Tollefson, September 13, 1959. Kenneth and Sonja were blessed with two children, Daniel and Laura. Kenneth and Sonja were married until his death in January of 1989.

Sonja’s father was a recovering alcoholic and relapsed at one time. He was able to get back into recovery with the help of the Valley Hope Treatment Center in Norton, Kansas. This inspired her to do fundraising for Valley Hope. She wrote a song about the treatment center and recorded it on an album, Sonja Sings. My Valley Hope &amp; Bright New Day, along with her other favorite gospel songs were on the album. Sonja also sang along with her brother, Mike Soyland, at multiple venues.

In 1978, Sonja began working for Brown County Court Services and taught the Alcohol Information School. She also enrolled at Highland Community College at this time and obtained her Associate’s Degree. She then served as a Probation Officer for 18 years and later became a Child Custody Mediator/Conciliator, both for the 22nd Judicial Court District. She retired in 2009.

After retirement, Sonja was able to pursue her beloved hobbies, which included antiquing and refinishing furniture. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for her friends and family.

Survivors include; daughter Laura (Heidi) Tollefson of Hiawatha, daughter-in-law Susan Tollefson of Frisco, Texas, granddaughter Erin (David) Oberschlake of Prosper, Texas, grandsons Bradley Tollefson and Chase Tollefson of Frisco, Texas. Two great-grandchildren, Zeva and Ty Oberschlake. Brothers Harold Soyland of Hiawatha, and Mike (Deb) Soyland of Sabetha. Brother-in-law Phillip (Ingrid) Tollefson of Wichita, Kansas and her niece and nephews.

Besides her husband Kenneth, she was preceded in death by her son Daniel, her parents Norman and Cleo, and her husband’s parents Henry and Henrietta Tollefson of Horton, Kansas.

Sonja will lie in state at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023. Visitation will be held that evening from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Hiawatha at 11:00 am. The funeral will be live streamed on the Chapel Oaks website. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha.&nbsp;

Sonja Kay Tollefson 1940 - 2023

Lois Ilene Burge was born on March 27, 1927 in rural Holt County near Forest City, Missouri. She was one of three children of&nbsp; Seth T. and Gladys L. (Dozier) Buckles. Lois graduated from Mound City High School in May of 1944.

On February 7, 1959 she married Albert "Ducky" Burge at the Mound City United Methodist Church.

Lois worked at St. Joseph Light and Power for eight years, and then worked at the Mound City school cafeteria for 15 years until her retirement. Lois was a member of the First Christian Church of Mound City.

Albert passed away in 1992. Lois passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at a Mound City care center at the age of 96.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Freeman Buckles; and sister, Lena Elizabeth Buckles.

Survivors include her son, Rusty Burge and his wife Krista of Mound City; two grandchildren, Garrett Burge and his wife Nicole, and Morgan and her husband David Luna; two great grandchildren, Jayce and Kyah; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: Wednesday, August 23, 2023, 10:00 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Private family interment: Mount Hope Cemetery.

Lois I. Burge 1927 - 2023

Bertie was born January 6, 1941, at Hamburg, Iowa, and passed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ on August 16, 2023, at the age of 82.&nbsp;

When Bertie was born, her parents, Albert and Ethel (Morgan) Herron, lived on a farm northwest of Rock Port, Missouri. Bertie attended Lone Cedar School and Rock Port R-II High School, graduating in 1959. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University.

Bertie moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, in 1960 and worked for both Montgomery Ward and Henry Field. She and Rita Garst Vance shared an apartment during those early years and a lot of cherished memories were made with both Rita and their friend Judy Bradley. Bertie then moved to Clarinda, Iowa, and worked for the Clarinda Company, a book publisher, and Creston, Iowa, before marrying Marvin Stoaks in April 1964. Their daughter Lisa was born the next year. The family moved to Maryville, Missouri, in 1968, and Bertie worked for the Maryville R-II school district for seven years. She and Marvin divorced in 1972.

In 1975, Bertie married Bert Pierson and moved to Smithville, Missouri. There she worked for Superior Bowen Asphalt Company for 20 years and, during her time in Smithville, she served on the Smithville R-II Board of Education and the Northwest Missouri regional executive committee of the Missouri School Boards Association. After divorcing Bert in 1994 and retiring from Superior Bowen in 2011, Bertie moved back to Rock Port and became active in the Linden Christian Church community.

Bertie is survived by her daughter Lisa Long and Lisa's husband Marc of Yankton, South Dakota, and their children, Alex Long (wife Haley Canaday) of Englewood, Colorado, and Andrew Long of Hallsville, Missouri. In addition, Bertie is survived by her sister Martha Walter (husband John) of Grandview, Missouri, and niece Julie Walter Davis of Kansas City and grandnephews Adam Davis (wife Courtney) of Chicago, Illinois, and Ben Davis (wife Mandi) and their sons Hunter, Carter and John Parker of Kansas City, Missouri. She also appreciated the warmth of many cousins and friends after moving to Rock Port.

Bertie would like to be remembered for being a good friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Linden Christian Church or the Bertie Stephens Educational Trust at Citizens Bank and Trust in Rock Port.

Katherine Kay Remmers, 82 years old, of Warsaw, Missouri, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at the Benedictine Living Community – St. Joseph, Missouri.

Kay was born on December 11th, 1940, in Columbus, Nebraska to Walter and Emily (Shotkoski) Phillips.

She graduated from Auburn High School in 1958.

Kay married Tom Remmers on September 6th, 1958, in Auburn, Nebraska.

She was a member of the St Ann’s Catholic Church in Warsaw, Missouri. Kay was an avid card player, she enjoyed playing with friends, family, card leagues, tournaments (won the Wathena Card tournament several years with teammate Virginia Shaw). She hiked the Grand Canyon twice and rode the rapids down the Grand Canyon and this was all done in her sixties.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tommy Lee Remmers, son, Jerry Lee Remmers, grandson, Kanton Remmers.

Survivors – Kim Manthe (Ray), St. Joseph, Missouri, Pam Whetstine (Roger), Troy, Kansas, Sue Remmers, St. Joseph, Missouri. Grandchildren – Kriston (Manthe) &amp; Brett Goodwin, Joe &amp; Britani Manthe, Dayton Remmers, Dru &amp; Laura Whetstine, Cole &amp; Kia Whetstine, Riley Whetstine, Garrett Meng, Tanna (Meng) &amp; Daniel Kuhnert, Kassi Meng. 12 great-grandchildren

Katherine Kay Remmers, 82 years old, of Warsaw, Missouri, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at the Benedictine Living Community – St. Joseph, Missouri.Kay was born on December 11th, 1940, in Columbus, Nebraska to Walter and Emily (Shotkoski) Phillips.She graduated from Auburn High School in 1958.Kay married Tom Remmers on September 6th, 1958, in Auburn, Nebraska.She was a member of the St Ann’s Catholic Church in Warsaw, Missouri. Kay was an avid card player, she enjoyed playing with friends, family, card leagues, tournaments (won the Wathena Card tournament several years with teammate Virginia Shaw). She hiked the Grand Canyon twice and rode the rapids down the Grand Canyon and this was all done in her sixties.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tommy Lee Remmers, son, Jerry Lee Remmers, grandson, Kanton Remmers.Survivors – Kim Manthe (Ray), St. Joseph, Missouri, Pam Whetstine (Roger), Troy, Kansas, Sue Remmers, St. Joseph, Missouri. Anna Marie Banks, 96, of Atchison, Kansas died peacefully on August 20, 2023 at Atchison Senior Village surrounded by her family.

Anna’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with a visitation at 10 am followed by a rosary and funeral service at 11 am with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A lunch will be served at St. Joseph Church following the burial. Memorials may be left for Mass Intentions, Mt. Anna Marie Strathman was born in Seneca, Kansas on May 11, 1927, the daughter of John and Barbara (Weber) Strathman. &nbsp;She was a mother and housewife for twenty-six years before accepting employment at Atchison High School in the cafeteria in 1978. &nbsp;She worked 13.5 years before retiring in 1992.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish, Atchison, Kansas. Anna enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening and especially enjoyed going for rides to the river and area lakes with her husband, seeking out wildlife, visiting with friends and sunshine and blue skies, but most of all, she loved to be warm, cozy and quiet. Her 9 children were her world. She was always anxious to tell anyone who would listen about them.

Anna married Donald I. Banks on February 26, 1952 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fidelity, Kansas with Father Vincent Kongs officiating their wedding. They were blessed with 71 years of marriage spending each and every day together. They began their married life in Sabetha, Kansas then later moved to the Cummings, Kansas area and finally to Atchison.

Anna is survived by her husband, Donald, 9 children, Lynn (Evelyn) Banks, St. Joseph, MO; Gerald (Terri)Banks; Galen (Donna) Banks, Lyle (Lindra) Banks, Linda (Gary) Lee; Cathy (the late Kenneth Scholz; Arthur (Brenda) Banks and Lisa (John) Foster, all of Atchison; Donna (Johnny) Martin, Effingham, KS; twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Barbara Strathman; three brothers, Leonard, Carl and Ben Strathman; three sisters, Henrietta Carpenter; Rosalia Becker and Rita Rettele; son-in-law, Kenneth Scholz; great grandson, Max Banks and great granddaughter, Presley Lee.

Gage Helton 26, of Maryville, MO, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Maryville, MO. He was born June 25, 1997 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Samantha and James Helton Sr. 

He graduated from Benton High School. He worked at ABC trash service. 

Gage is survived by his parents, daughter, Avah Helton, Avah's mother, Kayla Vandever of St. Joseph, MO, brothers, James Helton Jr. and Dakota Slagle, and paternal grandfather, Thomas Helton Sr.

Gage Lynn Helton 1997 - 2023

Roland (Ron) was called home August 17, 2023 at 10:30 am, after a long battle with cancer. Roland was born to Francis and Mary Lou (Cannon) Bayer. 

Ron and his wife Carolyn, of 40 years, created his greatest pride and joy, his family. Roland worked for Tyson Foods for 16 years, before retiring in 2020. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering with this and that. He had many, many hobbies going to the races, old cars, monster trucks, and camping. 

Roland was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Brandy Watts. 

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, of the home, two sons, Brian (Andrea) Bayer, and Ernest (Melissa) Bayer, two daughters, Charlotte (Dean) Berry, and Rosemary (Jeremy) Murphy, five brothers, James Bayer, William Bayer, David (Mary) Bayer, Charles Bayer, and Marvin (Lisa) Bayer, two sisters, Tonya (Joy) Bayer and Star (Mark) Wascher, aunts, Madeline Herring and Mary Wohlgmuth, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins and extended family. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home, funeral services and public live stream following at 2:00 pm. He will be cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Roland Eugene Bayer 1953 - 2023

Minnie Louisa (Babcock) Miller-Zimmerman-Ray went to her Lord and Savior at 8:19 pm on Friday, August 18, 2023 surrounded by many of her family members.

Minnie Lou was born November 25, 1928 in Agency, Missouri, daughter of Nancy P. (Deatherage) and Roy E. Babcock. She was Student Body President and graduated from Agency High School as valedictorian. She grew up in a large, loving family who enjoyed music and gathered around the piano to sing as she or her mother played. They sang at school, church and in the community.

She married Jack H. Miller at the home of Rev. Floyd B. Taylor in St. Joseph on December 25, 1947. They had three children, Patricia Ann, Connie Jean and David Alan Miller. &nbsp;After 40 wonderful years together, Jack died on June 24, 1987. She then was married to Waldo E. Zimmerman seven years, and Richard G. Ray thirteen years. Minnie Lou felt she was blessed to have married three special men (all WWII veterans). Each was unique, kind and thoughtful with loving families for which she was very grateful. Waldo's niece said she meant so much to them and their families as she was able to incorporate all their memories and their families together. Instead of just “moving on,” she expanded and drew them all in. &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was baptized at age 11 at Wyatt Park Christian Church, the same day as her brother, Homer 13. At the time they were members of Agency Christian Church, Agency, MO, but the baptistry there was not working. &nbsp;A member of Wyatt Park Christian Church since December 11, 1955, she was very involved in church activities, was a Deacon, then Elder, member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, youth leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, sang many years in the choir, and received a Life Service Award from her church July 7, 1996. She sang with Mother Singers, Sweet Adelines, St. Joseph Community Chorus, and Early American Singers. &nbsp;She was happy that her children and grandchildren shared a love for music as well. At times three generations sang together in the church choir.&nbsp;

Minnie Lou loved God and family dearly. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Always happy to have family together, she was supportive in all activities of the children and grandchildren, and very proud of all of them. She was a “people person,” always ready with a hug. She tried to set an example of faith, love and caring for others. &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was active in PTA at Hall Elementary, Bliss Junior High and Central High School, Girl Scout Leader, member of Pony Express Chapter of National Campers and Hikers Association, Good Joe Sams Camping Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She, like Jack, was an Amateur Radio Operator (Ham) and still maintained her license. She enjoyed family camping all over the U.S. and into Canada, bus trips, cruises, and traveled in several other countries - all things and places she expressed later that she couldn’t believe as a little girl from a tiny town that she got to do and see. She felt very blessed. Minnie Lou did extensive genealogy research, which the family appreciates.&nbsp;

Minnie Lou worked for Westab in St. Joseph, Kemper Insurance Company in Chicago, and retired as an Underwriter for American Family Insurance Company locally in 1986.

Minnie Lou loved BINGO, Wheel of Fortune, and watching her Royal’s baseball games right up to the end!&nbsp;

Minnie Lou was preceded in death by her three husbands; her parents; stepmother, Lillian Nelson Babcock; brothers Chester Ralph, Virgil Lee, Roy Dale, Homer, Gene, and sister Helen Joy Williams; beloved son David A. Miller; grandson Adam Lyndon Heard, son-in-law Joseph B. Prashak, Jr.; and step-granddaughter Emma Catherine Ray. &nbsp;

She is survived by two daughters Patricia Prashak, and Connie Heard (Roger); daughter-in-law Michelle Miller-Vandevort (Ted); and her beloved sister-in-law, Joan Miller of Bolivar, MO; stepsons William E. Zimmerman (Georgia), St. Louis, MO; and Richard F. Ray; stepdaughters Jennifer Wineinger and Peggy Tarpein (Dan); stepbrother Barry Nelson (Sonya); stepsisters Charlotte Brinton, and Phyllis Flinchpaugh who lives in Springfield, MO. Minnie has six grandchildren, Angela Prashak Neville (Bob); Brian Prashak (Amy); Brianna Miller Bottorff (Eric); Ashton Miller Cecil (Julian); Katie Heard Schweder (Clint); and Lane Heard (Janna). &nbsp;Minnie has eight great-grandchildren Liam, Adilyn and Ashlyn Schweder; Madelyn and Molly Sidwell; Max and Ivy Cecil; and Oliver Joseph Prashak; five step-grandchildren Amy Ellis (David); Matt Wenzel (Andrea); Megan Wenzel (Guy) Thevenot; Jordan and Caleb Ray; and step-great granddaughters Kylee Schweder Anderson (Jake); Rachel Neville; Morgan and Sami Ellis; Hannah, Chloe, Emma and Ella Wenzel; Emery Thevenot; and Joycelyn Bottorff; as well as and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She worked in retail at Venture and Westlake Hardware. Her passion was selling AVON and she did very well with that. She liked making quilts, loved animals, and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include son Russell Wayne Helton; brother Michael Holmes; and her significant other MIke Mackernan.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Melissa L. Gastineau.

Patsy has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith Chapel. &nbsp;

Patsy Lavon (Holmes) Goodlet 63 of Savannah, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away August 18, 2023. Patsy was born December 8, 1959 in Maryville, MO, to Archie and Glenda (Ashworth) Holmes.She worked in retail at Venture and Westlake Hardware.
