Shirley Jean Taylor, 91, of Weston, Missouri passed peacefully on August 5th, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital. Mrs. Taylor was born in Orrick, Missouri and married James R Taylor on April 11th, 1951. 

They moved to Weston, Missouri in 1955. She was employed several years as a PBX operator at the Marriott hotel at the KCI airport. She loved spending time in the garden, quilting, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James R Taylor, her parents; Edger and Ethel Dorton and her brother John Ed Dorton. 

She is survived by her brother, Tom Dorton, her sister Linda Enderson, her children; Sam Taylor, Bill {Nan} Taylor and Betty Taylor, grandchildren Mackenzie Taylor Schrick, Whitney Taylor Roark, Mariah Taylor, Kara Taylor, Krista Traylor and three great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at the Graceland Cemetery, Weston, Missouri, on Saturday August 10th , 2024 at 10:30 am.

George  Pyles 69, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, formerly of St. Joseph, MO., passed away Friday July 19, 2024 in Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was born October 11, 1954 in St. Joseph, Missouri son of the late Georgetta &amp; Ernest Pyles. 

He graduated from DeKalb High School, worked at Quaker Oats for 27 years, and Missouri Department of Corrections for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, and family gatherings. 

  George was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ernest Pyles.

Robert "Bob" Lee Brushwood 91, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 in St. Joseph, MO. He was born December 29, 1932 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Annie and William Brushwood. 

He was the owner operator of B&amp;B Machine Shop and a talented inventor. He also enjoyed performing in his Country Music Band. 

Bob is survived by daughters, Shirley Brushwood and Annette Ramsey of Saint Joseph, MO, grandsons, Gary Brushwood Jr., Andy Actin, Randy Actin, Marcy Huming, and Donnie Stone, seven great grandchildren total, 2 great great grandchildren, as well as several other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Gary Brushwood Sr. grandson Toby Stone. He also had six brothers, Minor, Arley Raymond, Franklin, Cecil, Chesley, and Wallace Brushwood, three half brothers; Emmett, Floyd, and Paul Auxier, and five sisters: Sylvia Brushwood, Nellie Angold, Eleanor Blazinski, Annabelle Hanway, and June Brock.

He will be greeted by his parents, Kennard and Gerry Mooney, his wife, Patty Deloris (Nocks) Mooney, and three of their four children; Terri, who died as an infant, Paula in 2021, and Tom Jr. in 2023. It will be a joyous reunion.

Tom is survived by children Timmy and Michael Mooney, Christopher and Nicholas Munden, and Tara Nicholson. He leaves behind one brother, Kenny Mooney; three sisters, Janice (Gary) Strueby, Patricia Westcott, and Barbara Mooney; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Tom lived a simple life, working most all of his life for one company in St. Joseph, which changed its name a few times, the last name being "Express Pet Foods".

He was a hard worker with a good work ethic, always trying to do right for his family. He was loved by his family and friends who will all miss him immensely.

She was born May 20, 1939 in Mound City, Kansas, to John and Nellie (Douthit) Myers. She graduated from Mound City High School.

Jennie married William C. “Gable” McKay on May 17, 1958. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2021.

She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Jayco Camping Club, PTA, and Cub Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Gable; brothers, JC and Keith Myers; and sisters, Mary Morton, Barbara Panis, and Kate Prock.

Lorene Austin passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2024, at the remarkable age of 101.

Born July 10, 1923, third of six children to Carl and Elda (Krey) Felts, Lorene grew up in rural Robinson, graduating with the Cardinal class of 1941. Following the United States’ entry into WWII, she and a friend traveled by train to California to aid in the war effort. She spent the duration of the war years as a real life “Rosie the Riveter”, assembling P-51 Mustang fighter plans. She was united in marriage to Emery Austin, Jr. in September of 1946. Together they made their home in Robinson until moving to Topeka in 1957 for his job with the National Guard. During their 57 married years, they enjoyed traveling throughout the country, attending many of his military reunions. He passed away on October 16, 2003. In 2018, Lorene sold her long-time home on Twiss Street and relocated to Hiawatha to be closer to family. She remained active and self-reliant well into her late nineties.

Known for her assertive personality, independence, and kind heart, she will be remembered and dearly missed by all.

In addition to Emery, she was preceded in death by her parent, brothers Dwight and Lloyd Felts, and sisters Dorothy Steele and Ruth Schuetz.

Lorene is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Hathaway of Raymore, MO and a number of nieces and nephews.

At her request, no public service is planned. Private inurnment in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson will occur at a later date.

Gayle Jones, 77, of St. Joseph, MO formerly of Claycomo, MO passed away, August 7, 2024.

She was born on February 14, 1947 to Enoch William and Anita Jeanne (Parry) Perry in Kansas City, MO. Gayle grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Park Hill High School.

On November 7, 1970 she was united in marriage to Clarence Jones. After their marriage they lived in Claycomo, MO where they made their home. Her husband, Clarence, preceded her in death in 2013.

Gayle retired from Ryerson Steel in North Kansas City after several years.

She was an avid quilter and attended Sew Inspired sewing group at the Gower Baptist Church where they made quilts for the Pregnancy Resource Center in St. Joseph.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her son, Matt Jones; Elizabethtown, IN; two grandchildren, Georgia Jones and Mattie Jones; sister, Annie (Ralph) Nelson; brothers, John (Sandy) Perry and David (Arlene) Perry; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Linda especially loved her children and bossing her husband around. 

Linda married Tom Miller on May 20, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church, he survives of the home. She is also survived by her mother Roma Jordan, AR, a daughter Jyssica and Kenny Tull, Jr., Atchison, KS, sons, Clarence and Megan Warman, Olathe, KS, Nathan Warman, Lee’s Summit, MO, Matthew Miller, Atchison, KS, two brothers, Rod Orr, Atchison, KS, Jay Barker, Leavenworth, KS, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Gregory Allen Goodman (61) of Savannah Missouri passed suddenly at home Aug 5, 2024.

&nbsp;He was born February 11, 1963 to Donald L. and Glenna K. Goodman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his brother Donald Goodman Jr. (Donna), nieces Rachel Goodman, Jennifer (Boi) Khin, Andrea (Mark) Wascher, nephews Nick (Jami) Cecchettini, Eric Cecchettini, Joseph Irvin, Jason (Gwen) Irvin, with 11 great-nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Frosty.

&nbsp;He attended Savannah High School and was part of the Band playing saxophone and tuba. He loved his family and especially his role as "Unc". He worked for his brother doing HVAC for 35+ years. He was kind and generous to all.

Goodman.He is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his brother Donald Goodman Jr. (Donna), nieces Rachel Goodman, Jennifer (Boi) Khin, Andrea (Mark) Wascher, nephews Nick (Jami) Cecchettini, Eric Cecchettini, Joseph Irvin, Jason (Gwen) Irvin, with 11 great-nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Frosty.&nbsp;He attended Savannah High School and was part of the Band playing saxophone and tuba. He loved his family and especially his role as "Unc". He worked for his brother doing HVAC for 35+ years. Sharon Vaughn Neal 73, St Joseph MO, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born December 17, 1950 in St. Joseph MO to Harold and Colleen Coker. Sharon graduated from Central High School in 1969 and then attended Platt College.

Sharon married Michael Neal on October 9, 1976 at the First Assembly of God in St Joseph MO.

She owned an in-home daycare for over 34 years. &nbsp;Over the course of her career, she provided care to over 60 children and loved to make up stories for the kids which they of course believed.

Sharon was an avid Chiefs fan and spent many Sundays and a couple Christmas’s having everyone over at her house to watch the games. &nbsp;She was also very proud to be the oldest of 10 kids and loved spending time talking with her family over a glass of wine.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Harold and Collen Coker.

Survivors include – Husband – Michael Neal of St. Joseph MO. Her children- Jamie Bascue of Kansas City MO; Corey Neal wife Camilla of Olathe, KS; Krisit Pointer husband Chris of St. Joseph MO. &nbsp;Six grandchildren: Jake McDowell, Devin McDowell, Zooey Neal, Hadley Neal, Ryan Pointer, and Randy Pointer and numerous great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Sisters - Teresa Evans husband Don of Wathena KS; Sue Francis husband Harry of Savannah MO; Joni Hutchins husband Brett of Raymond MS. &nbsp;Brothers - Mark Coker wife Michele of St. Joseph MO. She was born on June 30, 1962 to Art and Norma (Fletchall) Thorburn in King City, Missouri.

Jennifer graduated from Lafayette High School.

After starting her family, Jennifer dedicated her life to providing for and raising her children, Jannessa and Derick.

Jennifer had a genuine nature and was always there to lend a hand to anyone.

Shirley Barnett, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

She was born January 27, 1941 in Elwood, Kansas to John and Frances (Howard) Morris. Shirley grew up in the St. Joseph area.

Shirley married Larry Leroy Barnett on September 4, 1960, and they made their home in St. Joseph. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2020.

She attended Sparta United Methodist Church and then Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the women’s group.

In her younger years, Shirley enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially growing her Christmas cactus. Later in life she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She always had a box of toys ready for the grandkids when they came to visit, toys that are keepsakes for them today. Shirley also loved Tweety Bird.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Larry; her parents; two brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include her children, Roy Barnett, Kim Pflugradt (Matt), Jennifer Pflugradt (Jay), and Paul Barnett (Christine); grandchildren, Ryan Pflugradt (Hannah), Taylor Pflugradt, Chris Pflugradt, Jason Pflugradt (Linsey), Katie Pflugradt (Matt), Scotty Pflugradt, Elizabeth Barnett (Raul), and Anessia Barnett; great-grandchildren, Ava, Evan, Andrew, and Caroline, with one on the way; sister, Pat Karr (Danny); and several nieces and nephews.

G. Deon Jensen, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024.

He was born July 23, 1935 in St. Joseph to George and Lora (Curd) Jensen. He grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from Central High School in 1953. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

Deon then embarked on a 30-year career of teaching instrumental music in the St. Joseph School District, spending 10 of those years at Benton High School. He also gave private music lessons.

He was a founding member of the St. Joseph Kicks Band, and a member of Ray Alburn’s Band, the Bill Geha Dance Band, Krug Park Bowl Municipal Band, and Platte County Community Band. He had served as president of the St. Joseph Musicians Union.

Deon married Karen Logbeck on August 1, 1987. She survives of the home.

He enjoyed books and antiques, woodworking, carving, gardening, and landscaping. He loved all of his dogs, and was known for his wicked sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Jensen; and beloved dog, Harley.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Karen; children, Debbie Ruhmann (Robert), Eric Jensen (Amie), and Nanette Piercefield (Robert); the mother of his children, Carol Bressler; stepchildren, Robert Logbeck (Jennifer) and Michael Logbeck (Lesley); grandchildren, Emily, Sara, Claire, Kelsey, Grahm Ruhmann, Jordan, Garrett Jensen and Hayden Jensen; step-grandchildren, Ryan, Brett, Asher, and Nate Logbeck; and eight great-grandchildren.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 16, First Lutheran Church. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 27 years, John Boos of Hiawatha, KS: her daughter Ashley Morrow (D.J. Cattrell, Jr.) of Falls City, NE, their children Daly Martin, Ashton Martin, Eli Cattrell, Kaydence Cattrell, and Orion Cattrell: and her son Michael Fleming of Oakland, CA.

Shirley Jean Taylor, 91, of Weston, Missouri passed peacefully on August 5th, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Orrick, Missouri and married James R Taylor on April 11th, 1951. They moved to Weston, Missouri in 1955. She was employed several years as a PBX operator at the Marriott hotel at the KCI airport. She loved spending time in the garden, quilting, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James R Taylor, her parents; Edger and Ethel Dorton and her brother John Ed Dorton. She is survived by her brother, Tom Dorton, her sister Linda Enderson, her children; Sam Taylor, Bill {Nan} Taylor and Betty Taylor, grandchildren Mackenzie Taylor Schrick, Whitney Taylor Roark, Mariah Taylor, Kara Taylor, Krista Traylor and three great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at the Graceland Cemetery, Weston, Missouri, on Saturday August 10th, 2024 at 10:30 am.

Della Dolores Terry (Farr), age 91, was born July 30th, 1933 in Clyde, MO., the daughter of Charles Farr and Mazzie Farr (Sybert). Della was the eldest of their 11 children.

Della passed away peacefully August 6th, 2024, while living in the Pleasant Valley Manor Care Center, where her husband Nathan of nearly 70 years had also resided. For many many years, Della was cared for dearly in her Home, by her three children; daughters Diana Dolores Odehnal and Linda Joy Burlison, and son Daniel Eugene Terry.

In 1951, Della graduated (Valedictorian) from Conception High School in Clyde, MO., where the family lived for many years. &nbsp;During this time, she learned how to raise a family – helping her mother with a large family and ornery brothers. She gained her values for Family during these years and never forgot them.

After high school, Della went to work at various jobs in Kansas City – her first job was at the Kansas City Stock Exchange. &nbsp;She stayed with family while working there, but rushed home on weekends as she missed her Family so much! &nbsp;In 1954, Della met Nathan at the Kansas City Baptist Temple, while Nathan was on leave from the U.S. Army. They married In Stewartsville on July 24, 1954. She moved to El Paso, Texas until Nathan was discharged and soon moved to Omaha in 1955, where Nathan attended Grace Bible Institute, and started a family. After he graduated in 1960, the family moved back to the Kansas City area, where we’ve all lived since.

Della was a devout and life-long Christian, and deeply devoted to studying and understanding The Scriptures. &nbsp;After “us kids” were out of the house, she went to college, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical &amp; Ancient History. Della was a life-long learner, and one of her last wishes was “to be able to go back to school”.

Della was eventually led to join and teach within the Christian Women’s Club [Stonecroft Ministries] for over 20 years, as well as share the teachings of Christ with all that wanted to listen and learn. &nbsp;She was also involved in child evangelism. But undoubtedly her greatest testimony was how she lived her life; a life of sharing, caring, loving unconditionally, sacrificing,……..always available to help others grieve, or to rejoice, or to encourage, or to reconcile, or to just listen,……..as the consummate counselor and confidante. &nbsp; Did we mention her wisdom……. &nbsp;And, only God knows the countless lives that she has touched.

Della also had her passion with the piano; learning, playing, and eventually teaching…….and played the piano for the youth services. &nbsp;And so, The Home was always filled with music, good food, and family time, …..a Home that was filled with love, understanding, and fun – which was perpetuated throughout her Children’s lives, and her Grandchildren’s lives as well! &nbsp;Della was always positive, the warmth and sunshine of any setting, and with all her friends and family alike.

Della was only recently preceded in death by her husband Nathan of nearly 70 years. &nbsp;Of her 10 siblings – &nbsp;Elbert Farr, Thomas Farr, and Charles Farr have preceded her in death, while she leaves behind brothers Ronnie Farr, Jim Farr, Robert Farr, Billy Rex Farr, and Dave Farr……and her sisters Juanita Hovenga (Farr) and Mary Kay Shoemaker (Farr).

She leaves behind her three children; Daniel Terry (Rheta), Linda Joy Burlison, and Diana Odehnal, and 4 grandchildren; Amanda Bauman (Brad), Christopher Odehnal (Payton), Emily Floyd (Tim), Jackson Burlison (Sarah), and 8 great grandchildren. &nbsp;She was Aunt and Great Aunt to 125 nieces and nephews.

Let us lift our broken hearts to Rejoice her Life.

But undoubtedly her greatest testimony was how she lived her life; a life of sharing, caring, loving unconditionally, sacrificing,……..always available to help others grieve, or to rejoice, or to encourage, or to reconcile, or to just listen,……..as the consummate counselor and confidante. &nbsp; Did we mention her wisdom……. &nbsp;And, only God knows the countless lives that she has touched.Della also had her passion with the piano; learning, playing, and eventually teaching…….and played the piano for the youth services. &nbsp;And so, The Home was always filled with music, good food, and family time, …..a Home that was filled with love, understanding, and fun – which was perpetuated throughout her Children’s lives, and her Grandchildren’s lives as well! &nbsp;Della was always positive, the warmth and sunshine of any setting, and with all her friends and family alike.Della was only recently preceded in death by her husband Nathan of nearly 70 years. &nbsp;Of her 10 siblings – &nbsp;Elbert Farr, Thomas Farr, and Charles Farr have preceded her in death, while she leaves behind brothers Ronnie Farr, Jim Farr, Robert Farr, Billy Rex Farr, and Dave Farr……and her sisters Juanita Hovenga (Farr) and Mary Kay Shoemaker (Farr).She leaves behind her three children; Daniel Terry (Rheta), Linda Joy Burlison, and Diana Odehnal, and 4 grandchildren; Amanda Bauman (Brad), Christopher Odehnal (Payton), Emily Floyd (Tim), Jackson Burlison (Sarah), and 8 great grandchildren. &nbsp;She was Aunt and Great Aunt to 125 nieces and nephews.Let us lift our broken hearts to Rejoice her Life.<figure>

Colcord, Oklahoma (formerly of King City,&nbsp;Missouri)…Charles Lester Shipp, age 93, was called home by his Lord and Savior on August 1,&nbsp;2024. He was born August 2, 1930, in Fairport, Missouri, the son of Lawrence Fredrick and Lovie Laverne (Lile) Shipp.

Charles graduated from Maysville High School in 1947, and then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Lova on August 12, 1951, at the First Baptist Church in King City, MO., and to this union four children were born. Charles and&nbsp;Lova spent 68 wonderful years together before her passing.

Charles enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards or horseshoes and to tell some of his great stories. He loved music, the Lord and church, his Lova’s cooking, and his beloved&nbsp;family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lova; sister, Helen Mitchell; two grandchildren, Cammie Reed and John Micheal Shipp.&nbsp;

He is survived by his children, Patricia “Patsy” Hartman of Colcord, OK, Robin (Delvon) Hannah of Bolckow, MO, Chuck (Susie) Shipp of Goessel, KS, and Donnie (Anita) Shipp of Ft. Worth, TX; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and&nbsp;other relatives and a multitude of friends. &nbsp;

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in King City, MO, with burial immediately following at the King City Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Opal Marie Reeves, 95, of Independence, MO passed away August 5, 2024.

She was born on April 28, 1929, to Peter Morgan and Martha Elizabeth (Wilson) Boyles in Appleton City, MO. Opal grew up and attended school in Garden City, MO.

On May 11, 1968, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Edison Reeves in Smithville, MO. After their marriage they lived in Independence. In 1974, they moved near Smithville and in 1993, they returned to Independence where they made their home. Her husband, Lawrence, passed away on March 23, 1998.

Opal worked for Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence and Spelman Hospital in Smithville.

She was member of the Salvation Army Church in Independence, MO and was previously a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church near Smithville. Opal also enjoyed embroidering and quilting.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Reeves; her sons Clarence “J.R.” LaQuet and Lawrence Wayne “Larry” Reeves; her parents Pete and Martha Boyles, her sister Hazel (Boyles) Bogart; her brother Charles Boyles.

She is survived by her son James Cornell, Lee’s Summit, MO; daughters Shirley Stroud and husband, Jim, Independence, MO, and Linda Reeves, Clinton, MO; eight grandchildren including Sean Reeves, who was raised by Opal and Lawrence; numerous great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be held at Community of Smithville Memorial Cemetery, Smithville, MO.

Nicholas “Nick” L. Miller Sr., 96, of Wathena, Kansas passed away August 1, 2024, at the Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Nick was born on December 6, 1927, in Troy, Kansas to Robert E. and Emma (Shalz) Miller.

He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post #161 and VFW Post#5531, Wathena, Kansas. Nick worked for Seitz’s Packing Company as a butcher for 34 years.

Nick married Mary Ann Begesse on March 4, 1955, in Troy, Kansas. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Mary Louise Miller, Martha Barclay, son, Dennis Miller, siblings, Francis Miller, Ed Miller, Paul Miller, Armilda Dawe, Bertha Uhlrig, Marcelline Plumlee and Leona Morrison.

Survivors include sons, Nick Miller Jr., Wathena, Kansas. Roger Miller (Carla), St. Joseph, Missouri. Robert Miller (Gloria), Wathena, Kansas. Daniel Miller, Kansas City, Missouri. Daughter, Barbara Ryan (Jack), Tempe, Arizona. Lisa Jo Gilbert, 64, of Country Club, MO passed away Saturday August 3, 2024 at her home in Country Club. She was born in St. Joseph on February 22, 1960 to Jerry and Virginia (Crowley) Shortle. She married Michael L. Gilbert on September 23, 1977 in St. Joseph and he survives of the home.

Lisa loved her family fiercely and enjoyed watching her grandsons play sports, camping, traveling, painting, crafts, and the Kansas City Chiefs. &nbsp;If you were in her heart then you were family. &nbsp;

Shannon Lee Chandler, 77 of Fillmore, MO passed away at his home on August 2, 2024. &nbsp;Shannon was born on November 7, 1946 in St Joseph, MO to Noah &amp; Thelma (Brewer) Chandler. He graduated from Fillmore High School in 1964. He married Loura Hiney in St. Joseph, MO on February 5, 1971 and she survives of the home.

Shannon worked many years for St Joe Fuel and Oil, while running the family farm, and most recently for CP Mining. Shannon enjoyed running a dozer, planting his garden and tinkering in his shed. He had many passions including farming, hunting, fishing and enjoying the hunting cabin with his friends. Shannon was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Branson for family vacations and Texas for a few months in the winter.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; daughters, Heather (David) Roberts of Fillmore and Teri (Darryl) Howard of Rosendale, and beloved dog, Libby; grandchildren, Courtney (Justin) Moore, Sammy Joe Howard, Joel (Gailynn) Roberts, and Atheah (Brayton) Erickson; great grandchildren, Adi Crist, Liam and Finley Moore, Chandler and Kohen Roberts, and one on the way. Brother and sister in laws, extended family, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his great grandson Porter Moore.&nbsp;
