John David Davis, beloved father, son, brother, and educator, passed away on July 30, 2025 at the age of 59. Born to Charles B. and Kay (Christian) Davis, John was raised in a home filled with love and strong family values. Though his father, Charles Bedford Davis, preceded him on death, John remained devoted to his mother, Kay, whom he cherished deeply.

A proud graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School, John returned to his calling to give back as an educator. John recieved his Bachelor degree at MWSU, his Master's and Specialist degrees from NWMSU, and his Doctrate from St. Louis University.  He spent many years shaping young lives as a teacher and coach in the St. Joseph School District and later served as a Vice Principal at Lafayette High School and also at Bode Middle School. His dedication to his students was shown in the many stories told to him later from former students.

John's greatest pride and joy were his children, Rowan and Sloane.  He lit up when talking about them and tried to never miss an opportunity to watch them play the sports they loved. He was their biggest fan on and off the court.

He enjoyed coaching his son's basketball team and watching and rooting for his daughter during tennis matches. John was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and the Mizzou Tigers. He had such a passion for history (the subject he taught at Benton High School), especially the Civil War era.

John shared a close bond with his sister, Dara Alsbury. The two grew up not only as siblings but as best friends, surrounded by a community of shared friends who became like extended family.  He also adored his nieces and nephew playing an active and loving role in their lives

John will be remembered for his deep love for his family and the countless lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by all.

John was preceded in death by father, Charles Bedford Davis (2014), half brother, Mike Davis, great nephew, Skylar Powell, and niece Jessica Alsbury.

He is survived by his children, Rowan Davis and Sloane Portman; loving mother, Kay Davis of the home; his sister, Dara (Butch) Alsbury of St. Joseph, MO; half sisters, Kathy (Bill) Ratliffe, Brenda (Bryan) Campbell, and Linda (Jarrod) Mickler; his nieces and nephews: Tommy John Powell, Rachel Kay Powell, Sarah McKinley Alsbury, Summer (Jonny) Phinney, Josh (Tiffany) Alsbury, and uncle David (Guila) Christian of Warrior, AL, as well as several other beloved great nieces, nephews, cousins and a wide circle of friends.

The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 PM on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment following at the Highland Cemetery, Highland, KS. Pastor Rob Diamond officiating. Memorials are requested to the John Davis Memorial fund in care of the Rupp Funeral Home.
