Diane Edith Rogers Vap, 78, of Atwood, passed away on August 21, 2022, 
in North Platte, surrounded by her family. She was born March 20, 1944, 
in Bell, CA on the corner of Atlantic and Gage to Alden and Edith 
(Kersenbrock) Rogers, she just couldn't wait to get started on this 
amazing life. After WWII was over, Alden, Edith and Diane came back to 
Atwood to live on the Rogers farm. 

Diane attended the Atwood schools, 
graduating from high school in 1962. She then went on to Wesley School 
of Nursing where she earned her RN license in 1965. On August 28, 1965, 
she married her high school sweetheart, John F Vap, at Travis AFB, CA, 
where he was stationed. To this union two daughters, Nancy and 
Stephanie, were born. Diane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, 
sister, and friend to all. 
Diane's passion for nursing went beyond the clinics and hospitals where 
she was employed. She would care for anyone at any time where a nurse 
was needed, touching many hearts and lives of the people she knew, loved
 and cared for. Their lives were better for having had her care. Diane 
touched the lives of so many people, patients, and their families during
 her nursing career. She worked all areas of nursing, from OB to 
Hospice, even the occasional farm nursing when Nancy or Steph got hurt 
or needed that extra band-aid. She loved going to the cabin in Red 
Feather Lakes, CO, and fishing at the lakes.

She enjoyed spending 
holidays with family, baking goodies (especially cookies) for grandkids 
and making sure John was eating the right veggies for his health. She 
enjoyed playing bridge, hosting card parties, and visiting friends. She 
loved to sew, making formals and wedding dresses for her daughters (only
 one for Steph, more for Nancy). She loved to watch sports, cheering for
 her kids and grandkids in whatever they participated in. She loved to 
watch KU basketball, college football, golf, volleyball, swimming, and 
baseball. If she had a kid or grandkid in the game, she was there 
cheering them on whenever possible. She loved sunflowers, Christmas, 
reading historical fiction, collecting angels and her sisters. 
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Alden and Edith Rogers. She 
is survived by her husband John, of Atwood; daughters Nancy (Larry 
Tien), of Prairie View KS and Stephanie (Sean) Walsh, of Aurora CO; 
grandchildren, Alexandria Walker, Padraic and Ronan Walsh and Ilyana 
Walker (great); sisters Donna (Bill) Roe, of Atchison KS, Darlene 
(Lloyd) Irwin, of Albuquerque NM, Joyce (Russ) Shreves, Wichita KS and 
Joann Luedke Lenexa KS; many nieces, nephews, and friends. 
Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2022, at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, Atwood, with burial in Sts. Cyril and Methodius 
Cemetery, rural Rawlins County, KS.

Richard Lee Blanton, 63, of Troy, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at his home.&nbsp;

Richard was born on June 16, 1959, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Floyd and Betty (Wineinger) Blanton, Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;He moved to Troy in 1980 from St. Joseph.&nbsp;&nbsp;Richard worked for Doniphan County as the courthouse custodian for over 20 years, retiring in June of 2022.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Wathena, Kansas&nbsp;

Richard married Sue Taylor on October 2, 1982, in Troy.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives of the home.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his mother.&nbsp;

2022, in Scott County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on June 28, 2004, in Scott 
City, Kansas, the son of Micheal Dale Redburn and Loreena Stephanie 
Johnson.&nbsp; Issac was born in Scott City and moved to Haviland, Kansas at 
an early age until June of 2022 when he moved back to Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was a Clerk and Cook at Casey’s General Store.

Issac was a member of the Friends Chapel in Haviland, Kansas, and was
 a past member of the FFA.&nbsp; Issac was a Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Donald E. Grayson, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022.

He was born November 17, 1938 in Plattsburg, Missouri to Elton and Nannie (Sylvie) Grayson. He grew up in Plattsburg, where he was a star football player at Plattsburg High School, graduating in 1956.

Donnie married Margaret Pennel on May 7, 1960, and they shared 62 years of marriage. She survives of the home.

He worked at Stetson Hats for over 50 years, starting out as a laborer and retiring as a supervisor. He owned thousands of hats, one of which he designed himself. After retirement, he drove for OATS for five years. Donnie loved the Lord. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Elwood, Kansas, where he was a Deacon. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and also was a member of the Tes Trams Club. He was known for his sense of humor, always making his family laugh. Most of all, Donnie was a wonderful husband and great father.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Alicia Janae’a; two sisters, Margaret Anderson and Barbara Bingham; and three brothers, Farris, Harold and Delbert Grayson.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Pam and Bari Grayson; grandchildren, Austen, David and Aalayha; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Carl Grayson (Dorothy), Wille Lee Grayson (Charlene), and Wilmenta Grayson; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

James J. Wilson, 100, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022.

He was born April 17, 1922 in Atchison, Kansas to James and Frankie (Brassfield) Wilson. He grew up in Atchison, where he worked in CC Camps during the Depression and later on as a landscaper for Hilligoss Greenhouse.

James was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in the Pacific during World War II. After his service he held many jobs, including landscaping in California, construction work in Minnesota, working as an over-the-road truck driver, working in a foundry in Atchison, and then in maintenance for many years at Armour &amp; Co. until retirement. James married Josephine Lankford on November 29, 1973. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2017.

He was a longtime member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon.

James loved to fish and take on DIY projects as well as spend time with family, who appreciated his sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; his parents; sister, Helen Haworth; and brothers, George and Theodore Wilson.

He is survived by his children, Helen Wilson, Carla Wilson Daniel (Herbert), Calista Pinkney (Nolan), Earl Walker (Carmen), Clint Walker, Comezell Walker, Jamie Lira and Glen Hamilton; grandchildren, Chonté, Ania, James, Joseph, Joshua and Michaela; numerous great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.

James J. Wilson 1922 - 2022

Donald Raymond Trout passed from this life August 16, 2022, at age 95.

Born on a farm south of Amity, Missouri, on September 18, 1926, to Raymond C. and Ethel M. (Akey) Trout, he attended Amity Public Schools, graduating in 1944. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served as a gunner’s mate on the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Bremerton, operating in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, where he met his future wife, Margaret Mae Putnam. They were married in the Methodist Church in Bedford, Iowa June 26, 1948. They had two sons, Robert Lynn and James Donald. Margaret died in March, 2013.

Upon graduation, Don taught school in Galt and Osborn, Missouri before coming to the St. Joseph Public School system, where he served on the faculties of Hillyard Technical, Floyd Elementary, Central High School, Lafayette High School, and became Assistant Superintendent for Business and served as Secretary of the Board of Education.

Don was very active in Lions Club International, first in the Amity, MO., club, and then in the St. Joseph Host Club, where he served as President and District Governor. He was a life member of Charity Zeredath Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Moila Shrine Temple. He was a longtime member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served on various boards, sang in the chancel choir, and was a member of the Guy Harden Sunday School class.

He married Sue Horvath in August, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son, James; and sisters, Shirley Trout and Lillian Bottorf.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; son, Robert (Marie) Trout, of Grain Valley, Missouri; grandchildren, Stacie (Casey) Willett, of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Cristi (Todd) Goforth, of Overland Park, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Brody Goforth and Lexi Goforth; and brother-in-law, Howard (Kris) Putnam, of Sparks, Nevada.

Donald Raymond Trout passed from this life August 16, 2022, at age 95. Born on a farm south of Amity, Missouri, on September 18, 1926, to Raymond C. and Ethel M. (Akey) Trout, he attended Amity Public Schools, graduating in 1944. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served as a gunner’s mate on the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Bremerton, operating in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, where he met his future wife, Margaret Mae Putnam. They were married in the Methodist Church in Bedford, Iowa June 26, 1948. They had two sons, Robert Lynn and James Donald. Margaret died in March, 2013. Dixie (Forbes) Paden, 90, of Wathena, Kansas passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at Corby Place in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp;

Dixie was born on March 19, 1932 in Elwood, Kansas to Russell and Edith (Wilson) Forbes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dixie Graduated from Elwood High School and attended Platt Business College in St. Joseph, Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dixie and her husband Bill opened and managed The Dairy Barn in Wathena for 20 years.&nbsp;

She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Wathena, Marantha Class and UMW of the church, also a member of the Happy Valley Club.&nbsp;

Dixie married Bill Paden on May 24, 1952 in Elwood, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on April 3, 2018.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Russell “Eddie” Forbes, sisters; Virginia Sheridan and June Handley. &nbsp;

Stephen Aid Feurt, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14. Steve was born June 17, 1934 on a farm in Jameson, Missouri, the only child of Boyd and Genevieve Feurt. Steve graduated from Jameson High School and Northwest Missouri State University where he majored in Business. After graduating from NWMSU Steve moved to St. Joseph where he began his career in Sales. Steve spent the majority of his 30+ year career at Hillyard, Inc. in St. Joseph. His customers always said they knew he was coming because he was known to whistle wherever he went. On October 9, 1959 he married the love of his life Mary Alice Lindley. They spent their marriage of 47 years in St. Joseph, Missouri. They were active for many years in the Moila Cyclist Unit where they made lots of memories with friends in the unit. Mary preceded Steve in death in 2006. Over the past 50 years, in addition to his career at Hillyards, Steve had a passion for acquiring and renovating rental properties in the St. Joseph area. Through the years he provided housing for numerous tenants and had a heart for serving those in need. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Genevieve Feurt. Survivors include his daughter Julie Riggs of St. Joseph and grandson Dylan Riggs of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter Pam Wheeler and her husband Frank Wheeler of Blue Springs, Missouri and grandsons Jordan Jameson Wheeler and fiancé Sydney Gooch of Waldo, Missouri and grandson Brooks Stephen Wheeler of Blue Springs, Missouri. Gerald E. Clark, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Gerald was born May 9, 1931 to Emmett and Dollie Clark in St. Joseph. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, Class of 1949. He was a member of the Lampion Honor Society and the ROTC.

Gerald enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served as a pilot.

Gerald was united in marriage to Peggy Jean Cooper on June 16, 1962. They celebrated their 60th anniversary. Two children were born to them: Carolynn Jean Sollars and Gary Allen Clark. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.He retired from the Missouri State Highway department after 41 years of employment. He was the Office Manager of District One, St. Joseph.

Gerald was a pianist who played for many occasions. He traveled to Gallatin, MO to play at McDonald’s Tea Room once a week for several years. He had over 300 songs that he played the most frequently. Gerald loved airplanes and everything about flying. He took family, relatives and friends on airplane rides, some for their first time. He flew for several photographers. He piloted planeloads of kids on “Penny a Pound” Day at Rosecrans, and many flights over Kansas City to see the Plaza lights at Christmas time. Gerald was thrilled to see Peggy learn to fly and earn her private pilot license. He shared his love of flying and was instrumental in seeing his grandson Jacob learn to fly and solo at the age of 16. He was a lifetime member of the Airline History Museum and traveled to Kansas City to work on the preservation of the Constellation “Connie.” Along with flying real planes, he built and flew control line model airplanes. One was built to fly a Barbie doll in. His latest hobby has been constructing rubber-band airplanes, which he donates to Noyes Home, Specialty Industries, YWCA, Bartlett Center, and AFL-CIO. He was the owner of two 1932 Chevrolet coupes that were used in the filming of “Paper Moon.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Dollie Clark.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Peggy; daughter Carolynn Jean Sollars (Mike); son, Gary A. Clark (Michelle); four grandchildren, Jacob Sollars (Ashley), Kimber Rock (Cody), Kelsey Sollars and Bethanee Clark; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Vernitia Clark of Port St. Lucie, FL; nephews, Todd Cooper, Steve Brewer, and James Appleton; nieces, Stephanie Dale, Rhonda Shook and Lynn Wilkinson; and numerous cousins.

Cameron, Missouri… Patricia Ann “Pat” (McCrea) Bromley, 82, of Rural Cameron, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Cameron Nursing and Rehab.

Pat was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri to Ralph and Rowena (Haley) McCrea on April15, 1940.

She went to High School in Maysville, and graduated in 1958. On December 17, 1960, Pat and Bob Bromley were united in marriage at the Christian Church in Maysville. Pat worked as a devoted wife, mom, and grandma. A tireless farm wife, and homemaker, she was well known for her delicious cooking. Especially her Angel Food Cakes. Pat was an avid “card sender” always remembering everyone’s birthday and anniversary. She faithfully would visit those who were ill or in hospital. Pat was a member of the Weatherby/ Bethel UMC in Weatherby, Missouri.

 She is survived by her beloved husband of over 61years, Bob Bromley, son David Bromley, grandchildren Broc (Ricki) Bromley, Reid (Sarah) Bromley, great grandchild Ella, and  many close relatives and friends.

Pat was proceeded in death by her parents, half brothers James McCrea, Stanley McCrea, and half sister Maxine (McCrea) Melvin.

On January 14, 1945, he was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Leland and Tamela (Guyer) Gann.

He married Janice Marie Jenkins on May 1, 1970. She precedes him in death.

Danny enjoyed fishing and playing pool. For many years he worked at Farmland Industries, then Omnium.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Larry Gann.

On April 23, 1946 he was born in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Reba (Pence) Dull.

He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Courter, on December 9, 1964. Gary and Patricia met in the 5th grade and grew up as neighbors. She survives of the home.

For more than 40 years, Gary was a professional Santa Claus at various malls, schools, and events in Kansas City and surrounding areas. Gary never met a stranger and loved to tell stories to anyone willing to listen. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and playing the guitar. He was a retired Kansas City Fire Investigator. After retirement he enjoyed meeting other retired law enforcement for coffee on a monthly basis.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Mackenzie Cook; and sister, Marge McKee.

Gary L. Dull 1946 - 2022

Mignon Goetz DeShon, daughter of the late Michael Karl Goetz, Jr. and Nancy Russell Goetz Ryan, wife of Richard N. DeShon and mother of Darcy, Andy and Ridge, passed from this life at her home on Monday, August 8, 2022. She was 85 years old.

Born in St. Joseph, Missouri on October 7, 1936. Mignon attended Noyes Elementary, The Barstow School in Kansas City and Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington D.C. On June 15, 1956, she married Richard Neil (Dick) DeShon.

As descendants of immigrant pioneers, the Goetz family took great interest in St. Joseph’s early history. Mignon’s Uncle Will Goetz helped procure the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion for the St. Joseph Museum and return the Harry George Native American Collection to St. Joseph. Mignon’s father was instrumental in the restoration of the Pony Express Stables and organization of a museum on that site. After his untimely death in 1960, Mignon and Dick carried on the Goetz Family legacy, providing inspiring leadership and resources necessary for the establishment of the Pony Express National Memorial in 1991, which now covers an entire city block. In 1997, Mignon founded the annual “Pumpkinfest” fundraiser.

Mignon co-chaired the Albrecht-Kemper “Pot of Gold” Auction in 1994, and participated in several fundraising campaigns for Missouri Western State University, and most recently, the St. Joseph Museums. She was a member of the Junior League. For her volunteerism in support of the city’s museums, arts and less fortunate, Mignon was recognized as a “Woman of Excellence” by the YWCA in 2015.

A gracious, relaxed hostess, and a gentle, supportive wife and mother, Mignon shared compassionate advice with anyone who sought it, touching many people throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling with Dick and taking care of their Miniature Schnauzers.

She is survived by Dick, her beloved husband of 66 years; children, Darcy DeShon Carpenter (David) of Nebraska City, NE, Janet Taylor (Michael), St. Joseph, Andy DeShon (Lorrie) of Fort Worth, TX, and Ridge DeShon of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Elyse McBride Mohr (Clint), Max McBride, Blair McBride, Gray Carpenter, Kailee DeShon Smith (Mike), Kyle Taylor, Logan Taylor, Megan DeShon Runge (Ben), Morgan DeShon, Chesney DeShon, Carson DeShon, Samantha DeShon; great grandchildren, Elise, Talia, Sophia, Amelia, Harrison, Thomas and Henry; nieces, nephews, extended Family, friends and Candy. Marvin Lloyd Leeson, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 15, 1932 in St. Joseph to Carl and Anna (Gill) Leeson. 

Lloyd left high school to work on the family farm.

Lloyd married Doris Carpenter on November 27, 1951. Theirs was a true love story that started when she was a senior in high school and lasted through 70 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2021.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Cpl. After the military service, he worked for his father’s tree service. Lloyd began a career as a healthy truck driver for Consolidated Freightways in 1967, retiring after 26 years and 2 million-plus miles of accident-free driving.

Deeply rooted in his faith, Lloyd was a longtime member and generous supporter of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Lloyd loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; and siblings, Betty Mollus, Robert Leeson, and Dannie Leeson.

He is survived by his children, Cathie Marshall, Sandra Bibb (Henry), Michael Leeson (Carol), and Cheryl Wormington; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Ronald J. (RJ) Blakley, 77 of rural Rushville, MO passed peacefully at home on August 9, 2022 surrounded by family. Ron was born in St. Joseph, eldest son of James O. and Lila L. (Scroggins) Blakley. 

He spent the majority of his youth living on the family farm with his grandparents, Charles (CW) and Goldie (Trosper) Blakley. He attended the Buchanan County R-IV schools graduating from DeKalb High School in 1963. After graduation, he attended the University of Missouri and Northwest Missouri State University until being drafted into the Navy. Following an honorable discharge, he finished his undergraduate degree in education at Missouri Western State University, then acquired his Masters in Industrial Safety and Hygiene from Central Missouri State University.

Ron was a man with many interests and valued education. His love for the construction industry led him to his position as the Safety Director for Massman Construction Company in Kansas City. He then followed his entrepreneurial spirit to become the owner/operator of Farmers Equipment Company for several years before finally settling into his first love farming, establishing Blakley Family Farms, LLC. Throughout his journey, Ron raised registered Angus cattle, worked at Z&amp;G International in St Joseph, MO and B&amp;D Equipment in Atchison, KS selling farm machinery, taught college courses, obtained his real estate brokers license, and became a producer/investor in Lifeline Foods. Ron retired in 2016.

Ron had a passionate interest in all activities associated with the Missouri River. He served on the Missouri Levee and Drainage District Association Board of Directors for 20 years from 2001-2021. He also was a member of the Missouri-Arkansas River Basin Association (MO-ARK) board for many years. He helped shape Missouri River policy as he worked with these organizations, the US Army Corp of Engineers, the Missouri Dept of Natural Resources and other state and federal agencies to make improvements for flood control, navigation, and flood recovery. In 2009, Ron was one of only two civilians selected by the US Army Corp of Engineers to collaborate and streamline efforts to get levees repaired following flood events. Ron’s leadership made him well respected across Missouri. With his blunt and plain-spoken honesty, he could explain complicated river policy in every-day language. Ron tended to local river issues by serving on the Halls Levee Board for many years. Ron took a great deal of pride in serving as the Vice-Chair of the St. Joseph Regional Port Authority from its inception before retiring his position in 2020. Ron worked tirelessly, along with other board members, for many years to see their vision become a reality when the new port was constructed.

MWSU Center for Entrepreneurship in the Craig School of Business was started in 2014. Ron was one of the original advisory council members who identified the important need in our community. He was a strong advocate in launching the program to support small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. His passion and dedication to the effort has resulted in the success of the CFE supporting over 900 entrepreneurs. Through the years, Ron was a member of the Buchanan County R-IV School District school board, Charity Lodge, Moila Temple Legion of Honor &amp; Wrecking Crew, and the Rushville Lions Club.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, James Oliver Blakley and Lila (Scroggins) Blakley; and a brother, Donald L. Blakley

Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leslie (Thompson) Blakley; two children, a son, Brian J. Blakley of Rushville, MO and a daughter, Jennifer A. (Brian) Brown of St. Joseph, Missouri; three grandsons who were his pride and joy, Tyler Brown, Bryson Brown, and Colton Blakley. Other survivors include his sister, Kathy (Larry) Whisenand and brother, Robert (Connie) Blakley both of St. Joseph, Missouri; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, whom he considered family.

Delmar Wayne Freemyer, 73, Conception Junction, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

He was born on May 12, 1949 to Elmer and Betty (Hutson) Freemyer in Maryville, Missouri. He married Lillian Nelson on November 29, 1968. She survives of the home.

He served in the Army National Guard. Delmar received a Master’s degree in Education and taught at South Nodaway High School. Along with teaching Industrial Arts, he also worked as a school counselor and a football coach. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church and the American Legion Post 102. Delmar loved spending time with his family; they mattered most to him. Delmar enjoyed following his sons and grandchildren to all of their events. He loved farming and being outdoors. He looked forward to family gatherings, which always included his ice cream.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Delmar is survived by his wife; two sons, Doug (Sara) and Bryan (Carrie); grandchildren Shelby (Gary), Kameron, Tristan, Taylar (Kellie) and Tejay; great grandchildren, Taven, Ansley, Blayke and Blayne; brother, Gene (Sue); nieces, Stacey and Michelle; so many beloved friends and family.

He was employed as a diesel mechanic for Mammoth Sports Construction LLC, Meriden, KS. John enjoyed restoring and showing tractors; fixing pick-up trucks; fishing; riding his UTV, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors with his dogs and coon hunting. He was a member of the Kansas Federation of Houndsmen. John was preceded in death by his father Jason Pantle; Grandfather Richard L Pantle; and great-grandparents Carl and Norma Buddenbohm, Albert and June Ellerman, and John and Rose Faught.

Troy James Golden, 57, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.

On July 8, 1965 he was born in Oakland, California to James and Ranee (Stewart) Golden.

Troy was a caring, generous, giving soul. He would help anyone in need. He was a member of AA. He was a jokester and storyteller with an unforgettable laugh. He collected Coca-Cola memorabilia and loved nature, cruising, motorcycles and cars. Troy will be remembered as the best brother and the favorite uncle.

He is survived by his parents, James Golden, Ranee Hempler (Craig); siblings, Liza Havey, Tanya Ewing (Larry), Chris Golden (Stephanie), Brandy Caceres (Oscar), and Jessica Golden; nieces and nephews, Stephen, Faith, Zoey, Dustin, Amber, Breanna, Maleah, Daniel, Tynigha, Jazlyn, Mariah, Ace, Monte, Siah, Isaac, Zaybreal, Larry, Ryan, Hadley, Lucas, Jackson, Diego, Brandon, James, Olivia, Carson; extended family and friends.

Troy James Golden 1965 - 2022

Ruth was born February 10, 1919 in St. Joseph, MO to Harry and Cora (Bolden) Wilson, formerly of Weston, Missouri. She was the youngest child of the family of two brothers and a sister.

Her primary education began at the old Douglas School in St. Joseph, MO. She attended the Lincoln School of Elwood, KS and then graduated from Elwood High School. She worked at Swift’s and Co. for 25 years until the plant closed in 1971. At that time, she enrolled in a business course at Platt College, where she graduated and worked at the Belt National Bank, J.C. Penney’s and Sherwood Medical Company, where she retired in 1981. At a young age, she joined the First Baptist Church in Elwood, KS and at the age of 16 was baptized in the Missouri River along with several other candidates. At that time, none of the Baptist Churches had baptismal fonts and ponds, lakes or rivers were used. She was instrumental in helping organize the First Usher Board. She was selected by Rev. David Rogers and Deacon Evans to represent the Northeastern District in the state and national contest. Her love of church and dedication to being an usher won her the National Usher Queen USA at the National Baptist Convention in New Orleans, LA in 1989.

She was married to Thomas A. Mozee, Jr. June 30, 1940 by the Rev. Hamilton Brown in Elwood. They were married 64 years. Tommy and she both loved to travel. They traveled from coast to coast as Tommy sang with the Ennis Whalley Acappella Ensemble Choir.

She loved bowling and had the privilege of being in many state and national tournaments. She also enjoyed crafts, quilting and taking pictures of her many travels. 

Marie’s true love of family came from the many nieces and nephews that she and Tommy had the privilege to share their love. She was forever grateful to the McGaughy family for always including her in their gatherings.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tommy; a sister, Delia Wilson; and two brothers, Bolton and Floyd Leonard Wilson.

She is survived by five nieces, Vontella Dydell, Sharon Weston, Janice Lee, Kelly Trope, and Ann Hunter; eight nephews, Kenneth Dydell, Jimmy Dydell, Mike Dydell, Gary Dydell, Raymond Dydell, Mark Dydell, Roger Dydell, and Gilbert Gray; and extended family of great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; a foster son and nephew, Thomas Roach in Atlanta, Georgia, and one Godchild, Kizzie Marie Rowland.

Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Monday, First Baptist Church, Elwood, Kansas. Interment Ashland Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.

Philip Duane Beth, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022.

He was born November 25, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri to Duane and Esther (Hammond) Beth.

Phil married LaGena Gillespie on April 1, 1981. They later divorced.

He graduated from Rockhurst College and worked as a chemist for many years. He also dedicated 50 years of his life to his church. Phil was a lifelong learner who loved politics. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching Westerns and tinkering with electronics.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Monica Johnston.

He is survived by his daughters, Desiree Boatwright (Mitchell) and Amanda Surwillo (Sean); grandchildren, Gwendolyn Phelps, Justis Beth, Douglas Boatwright, Hailea Rayne Newton, Daemin Newton, Hermione Boatwright, Arkyn Surwillo; siblings, Sharon Brown, Steven Beth (Tami), Katrina Beth, and Nicole Ford; other extended family and friends.

Philip Duane Beth 1947 - 2022

Anna “Ann” Helene Nimtz, 99, of Wathena, Kansas passed away on August 8, 2022. Ann was born in Robinson, KS, on September 5, 1922, the oldest girl of Emil and Elise Dombrowe’s six children. 

A tough Kansas farm girl her whole life, she grew up helping take care of her younger sisters while constantly enduring the pestering of her brother Frank. After school, she started working outside the home at various jobs into her 20s. In 1947, she took on the role of wife in marrying Arthur Louis Nimtz, and in 1950 she began her favorite role of all as mother when their marriage was blessed with a son, Charles Richard Nimtz. The Nimtzs attended Christ Lutheran Church of Wathena and resided in Art’s childhood home, where they made a living raising row crops and cattle. Spending over 70 years in the Nimtz home, Ann was blessed to live within a few miles of her son and his family, as well as four of her siblings. Dombrowe traditions were very important to Ann; her mother and father were first generation German-Americans. Ann and her sisters were fond of speaking “low” German to each other on the phone, a likely cover to deter their English-speaking husbands and children from eavesdropping on their chit chat. 

Ann’s passion was making a home, and whereas she was always successful at her foremost priority of a tidy home, she had tremendous skill in most other areas of homemaking. Every year until well into her 90s she planted a garden, where she could nurture and grow literally anything. Most of that time, the garden spanned acres of her backyard and featured everything from apples to zinnias. She was known for her kitchen table, which served thousands of noon meals feeding farmhands and also, potlucks for birthday parties that hosted a large extended family. Quite often, her kitchen table featured popcorn, coloring books, and farm animal figurines or dominoes for her grandkids. She was also well-known for her work that is treasured today in the blankets, knick-knacks, décor, and more that she produced with her exemplary sewing, knitting, and crafting skills. Some of these items she was able to sell working at Homespun Crafts, a once gift shop in Wathena owned by her son and daughter-in-law. Ann was active in Mary Martha Circle at Christ Lutheran for many years, as well as the Cordonier School Club. She lived a life dedicated to family and church, with a willing hand always to be of service. For the past three years, Ann was blessed to live at the Willow in Wathena, making new friends until the end. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:30-31.

 Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, her son Charlie, her brother Frank Dombrowe, her sister Elsie Ruhnke, and her best friend Freda Lou Bahr. 

Survivors include: her daughter-in-law Joan Nimtz, and grandchildren J.R. Doney (Christi) of Meade, KS, Laura Benitz (Jake) and Karen Gaither (Chris), both of Wathena, KS, and Elise Keister (Justin) of Manhattan, KS. Great-grandchildren Davina Benitz, Maya Doney, Olivia Doney, Luke Benitz, Jude Gaither, Andy Benitz, Ella Doney, Cora Keister, and Charlie Gaither. Sisters Agnes Kiehnhoff, Elizabeth Bahr, both of Wathena, and Mary Howard (John) of Marysville, KS. Numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Saturday, August 13th at Christ Lutheran Lutheran in Wathena from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Harman-Rohde funeral home in Wathena on Friday after 9:00 a.m. Burial: Rosedale Cemetery, Wathena, KS.
