Sue Baublit, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023.

She was born January 12, 1932 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma to William and Audrey (Hawks) Herron.

Sue married Monroe B. Baublit on June 26, 1947 and were married for 51 years before his passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, all of her siblings, and multiple grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, George Baublit, Pam Manson (Bill), Monty Baublit (Debbie); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

John M. Weber, 71, beloved family man and friend to many, passed away after a brief battle with brain cancer, on Friday, August 25, 2023. Born on August 8, 1952, in St. Joseph, MO, John was a cherished son to the late Martin and Stephanie (Mihelich) Weber.

John leaves behind a beautiful family including his wife, Vada Leanne Weber; children, Brook Weber, Laura Blackmore, and Shane Weber (Wendy Le); grandchildren, Judah and Hazel. His sister, Stephanie Heater, his three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his loss.

A proud alumnus of Christian Brothers class of 1970, John devoted 42 years of his life to the Albaugh Chemical Company, rising to the position of Production Manager. His professional commitment was matched by his love for the life he built outside of work.

John was an avid golfer and an unwavering Chiefs and Royals fan. He had a penchant for road trips and derived immense pleasure in planning and implementing them. His love for his home saw him build three family homes and maintain a beautiful yard. His green thumb had a magic touch, making gardens bloom and flourish.

Described as lovingly mischievous, John was known for his quick wit which got him out of many tricky situations. His grandchildren were his prized treasures.

Acknowledged as a beacon of love, wisdom, and joy by all who knew him, John M. Weber will be profoundly missed.

Billie “Bill” Ray Patton, a loving husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023, at his home after a short battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Eula Patton.

Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon; his son, Brett (Gena) of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Debra (Dustin) Patrick of O’Fallon, Missouri; granddaughter, Taylor Patton of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson, Bennett Patton of Columbia, Missouri; sister, Marilyn (Frank) Power of St. Joseph, Missouri; nephew, Brad Power (Lori) of St. Joseph; many special friends he thought of as family; cousins; and granddogs, Verzi and Merle.

Bill graduated from Lafayette High School in 1961 and Northwest Missouri State University, and was employed by American Family Mutual Insurance Company for 39 years.

He spent many happy hours on a ballpark bench being a very proud Grandpa, watching softball and baseball. Bill enjoyed golfing with his many buddies at Moila.

As a member of a small group at Brookdale Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed sharing God’s love and support. His church family was an important part of his life.

Hayley June McKinney, 35, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

She was born on September 5, 1987, to Danny McKinney and Geraldine Hillebrand in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Hayley worked for Reece-Nichols Ide Capital Realty, LLC for several years.

Hayley was well known for her dedication to serving those in her community, as she volunteered for several organizations, including the Christmas Cheer Program for Kids during the holidays.

She earned the Newcomer of the Year award and the KQZ Person of the Year award.

Hayley enjoyed working outside in her garden and she was especially fond of gerbera daisies. She loved to cook meals for her family and dedicated spending time with her loved ones. She was very involved in her sons extracurricular activities through school and was their biggest fan.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Gerald and June Vaughn; grandmother, Sheila Owens; aunts, Ruth Gross, Christine Coleman, Mary Owens, and Debbie Huff; and cousins, Christie Bennett, Shane Williams and Christopher Ringot.

Survivors include her significant other of seven years, Brandon Kelley; children, Jackson Compton, Braxton Kelley, and Leah Wilhite; sister, Jessica McKinney (Bill Graebe); brother, Jacob McKinney; mother and stepfather, Geraldine and Mark Hillebrand, father and stepmother, Danny and Maria McKinney; grandfather, Oliver Owens; nephew, Kevin Whetsell; niece, Danica Whetsell, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Forest William "Junior" Woolsey was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on June 11, 1929. He was one of four children of Forest W. and Philomena "Minnie" (Genise) Woolsey.&nbsp;

After living in Nebraska and Iowa, Junior moved to Missouri in 1951. He entered the United States Army in 1954. Upon discharge, he logged and operated a sawmill and worked as a commercial fisherman. He was a commercial master gardener, raising and selling thousands of watermelons. Junior was also known as a storyteller.&nbsp;

He married Margaret White. They later divorced. Margaret passed away in 2007.

Junior was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Woolsey; two brothers, David and Benny; and an infant sister, Charmayne.

He is survived by his children, John “Bow” Steedley of Hamburg, Iowa, Robert (Shelley) Frakes of Big Lake, Missouri, Ed (Patsy) Woolsey of Forest City, Missouri, and Gina (Ron) Grimes of Oregon, Missouri; his significant other, Pauline Kurtz, of the home; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Family visitation: Sunday, August 27, 2023, 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with services at 10:30 am on Monday, all at the Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Interment with military honors: Forest City Union Cemetery. Memorials: Forest City Union Cemetery.

Nathen Scott Taylor Jr. 18, of Saint Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in Saint Joseph, MO. He was born January 30, 2005 in St. Joseph, MO, and attended Webster Elementary School and Lafayette High School. &nbsp;

He started his own business the T &amp; B Home and Lawn Services. Nathen enjoyed fishing, camping, karate, football, fireworks, going to festivals, and he loved cars, he loved people, was a very hard working, a giving, sharing, selfless person, who portrayed a lot of self confidence. 

Nathen was preceded in death by father, Nathen Scott Taylor Sr., maternal great grandmother, Bernice Goforth, paternal great grandfather, Harold Merritt, and paternal great grandmother, Patricia Gabbert. 

Survivors include: mother, Jennifer McCarthy, paternal grandparents, Patricia (Mickey) Harrison, brother, Alexander Campbell, sisters; Sydney and Felicia Campbell, maternal grandparents, Terri &amp; Manuel Romero, companion, Brianna Behymer of Saint Joseph, MO, maternal great grandmother, Emma Louise Sutton, aunt, Tina (Amy) Taylor, and uncle, Mike Harrison, as well as numerous, cousins &amp; &nbsp;friends.&nbsp;

Lester Hatfield, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

He was born June 2, 1949 in Trenton, Missouri to Loren and Doris (Keuhn) Hatfield. Lester grew up in Trenton, graduating from Trenton High School in 1968. After graduation, he worked for John Deere for several years.

Lester married Brenda Romesburg on April 20, 1974. The couple moved from Trenton to Olathe, Kansas, where Lester worked at Holman Enterprises in Kansas City, Missouri, as a quality control inspector for 20 years.

Lester loved fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking. He made several electric guitars, which he sold. He liked to repair and rebuild golf carts as well.

Lester was a quiet, reserved presence for his family, who will greatly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Brenda; sons, Aaron Hatfield and Eric Hatfield (Natasha); grandchildren, Clayton (Cassie), Kristopher and Aubriana Hatfield; brother, Larry Hatfield (Cathy), other extended family and friends.

Lester Hatfield 1949 - 2023

Betty Lou Jeannin passed away on August 22, 2023 at the age of 91.

She was born on November 1, 1931 to Waldo and Lucy Slapper in Benton County, MO.

She attended Leavenworth Public Schools. Betty worked various jobs in the Leavenworth area including the downtown movie theater, Homer’s Restaurant and most notably as a machine operator for Hallmark Cards. She married Harold Jeannin on July 24, 1971 and they built a home together and shared many years of motorcycle riding.

She took great pleasure in growing flowers and tomatoes. She spent many hours bird watching on her back porch with her beloved dogs. Later in life, she found a special place in the Fortress of Faith Community.

Her greatest pride and joy was in visiting with her family and special friends. She is survived by three children: Cindy McCurren of Grain Valley, Missouri, Martha Villarreal (Roy) of Leavenworth, KS; and Robert E. Windham of Leavenworth, KS. She loved her fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She often visited with her siblings; Dorothy Woods, Bill Slapper, Larry Slapper and Kathy Price all of Leavenworth, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Lucy Slapper, her husband, Harold Jeannin, her sister, Faye Arck, and her great-grandsons, Logan and Austin Jackson.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Fortress of Faith Church.

She is survived by three children: Cindy McCurren of Grain Valley, Missouri, Martha Villarreal (Roy) of Leavenworth, KS; and Robert E. Windham of Leavenworth, KS. She loved her fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She often visited with her siblings; Dorothy Woods, Bill Slapper, Larry Slapper and Kathy Price all of Leavenworth, KS.She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Lucy Slapper, her husband, Harold Jeannin, her sister, Faye Arck, and her great-grandsons, Logan and Austin Jackson.Memorial Contributions can be made to the Fortress of Faith Church.Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 4 to 6 P.M. and funeral services on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 10 A.M. at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas. Rosetta Mae Jones, 90, of Platte City, MO passed away August 22, 2022, at the Gower Convalescent Center, Gower, MO. She was born June 7, 1933, in Leavenworth, Kansas to Edward and Bertha Stratemeyer (Brooksher). Rosetta married Donald P. Jones on December 18, 1959 in rural Platte County, MO. 

She graduated from West Platte High School in 1951. She earned her Certification as an x-ray tech from General Hospital in Kansas City, she moved to California for a short time utilizing her certification as an x-ray tech. She returned to Platte City and worked for Dr. Parker for 14 years. She then worked 16 years for Medical Arts and finished her career At Cushing’s Hospital, Leavenworth, KS. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos, painting ceramics and just spending time with her family and her animals. She loved animals and was an avid supporter of Wayside Waifs. She was a lifetime member of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Farley, MO. 

Rosetta was preceded in death by her Parents, Brother John Stratemeyer (Kay), and a Daughter, Donna Jones. 

She is survived by her husband, Donald P. Jones, Son Scott Jones, Granddaughter Hannah Jones (Andrew), Great granddaughter Parker Stahl. 

A visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, August 25, 2023, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO. Graveside services will be held 10am, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Platte City Cemetery. Interment following.

William “Bill” Seager, age 66, of Atchison, Kansas, passed peacefully at his home on August 24, 2023, with family by his side.&nbsp;

Bill’s life will be celebrated on Monday, August 28, 2023, with a visitation from 6-7:30 pm at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Cremation care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Atchison Humane Society or the Atchison Salvation Army.

Bill was born on July 31, 1957, in Atchison, KS, the son of the late William H. Seager and Thelma L. (Walker) Seager. He attended schools in Atchison and graduated from AHS in 1975.&nbsp;

Bill was always a skilled carpenter and worked for construction companies and also for himself; he even built a few houses over the years. He worked for the railroad for a short time until he moved to Omaha where he joined a volunteer fire department. When he returned to Atchison, Bill joined the Atchison Fire Department where he served as an EMT and Firefighter for over twenty years until his retirement in September of 2014. He always had a quick wit and a sarcastic comment waiting to spur good conversations. He enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his RZR and spending time with friends and family.&nbsp;

Left to cherish Bill’s memory include his wife, Debra (Page) Seager, who he married on June 1, 2011, in Eureka Springs, AR. He is also survived by two sons, Jason and Justin Seager; and three daughters, Carey Keling, Heather (Vic) Brelsford, Amanda (Bryson) Reed; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren; and a nephew, Kurtis Page.

Donald L. Ryland, 81, of Hiawatha, formerly of Fairview, died Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023, at Maple Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hiawatha where he had been a resident for a year.

Don was born on the family farm November 27, 1941 near Greenleaf in Washington County, Kansas, one of four children of Thomas and Luzena Orpha Ryland and lived with his family there attending country school prior to moving to Sabetha. He graduated from Sabetha High School with the class of 1959.

He married Marjean Neff May 6, 1966, at Atchison, Kansas. They made their home mostly in Sabetha, and Fairview and Maple Grove Apartments in Hiawatha in recent years. Don served his country in a couple capacities: 2 BN 130th FA Kansas Army National Guard in Hiawatha from 1966-68 before being activated to the Army where he served as Captain during the Vietnam War from 1968-73. He returned to the National Guard in 1986 and served until 2001 discharged at rank of sergeant. In addition to the Guard, he was a trucker at heart: working in the office of Koch Truck Line for many years before going on the road. There wasn’t anything Don couldn’t fix!! Marjean passed away April 26, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Ruth Painter, Dorothy Evans, and Arlene Fry.

Survivors include his children: Ronnie (Lisa) Huddleston of Falls City, NE, Beverly (Steve) Chambers of Topeka, KS, Dean Huddleston, Eddie (Sherry) Huddleston, both of Falls City, Amanda (Darren) Allen of Oneida, KS, Donna Green of Hiawatha, 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Don’s eternal life is planned for 10 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2023, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Cheryl Mishler will officiate. Burial will follow at Isely Cemetery with military honors.

He graduated from Lafayette High School. He was the owner and operator of  Harrison Construction, and co-founder with wife Barbara of Country Cookies. Ron enjoyed the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tina Sue (Lake) Zbierski, 51, passed away on August 22, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of her loving family. Born on October 19, 1971, in St. Joseph, MO, to Liz Russell (Ivan) and Michael Lake (Deana), Tina was a beacon of love and care throughout her life.

She completed her education from Benton High School in 1990 and embraced the joys of love as she married her soulmate, Harold Leo "J.R." Zbierski, Jr., on May 22, 1992. She was an inspiring mother to her children, Jay Zbierski (Kortnee), Guy Zbierski, and Tyson Hicks (Bree), and was a beloved grandmother to Camden, Creed, and Azariah.

Tina's siblings, including Missy Palmer (David), Randy Russell (Tina), Chad Russell (Jennie), and Angie Fuller (Chad), shared a special bond with her. She was known for being compassionate and specifically enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. One of her prime interests was taking care of her dear grandchildren, who were her heart's eternal joy. She’s also survived by mother-in-law, Fern Hill, several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Loving – that is the word that best describes Tina. Everyone who knew her experienced her love, and her caring spirit was like a breath of fresh air in their lives. Charles L. Payne, 90, Carrollton, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

He was born on July 24, 1933, to Alek and Gladys (Parker) Payne in Hatti, Missouri.

On July 2, 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Cochell. They shared 60 years together before her passing in 2015.

Charles owned and operated his own business for 40 years with help from his sons, Steve and Joe. Charles was an accomplished diesel mechanic and enjoyed working on big diesel engines. He used this talent to repair many prize-winning cars. He also used his love of music to provide a musical influence on his sons, especially Joe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, and daughter, Cheryl Eden.

Survivors include his sons, Steven Payne and Joe Payne, grandchildren, Ellie Payne and Jo Catherine Prisby, and great-granddaughter, Vivian Prisby.

Collin Robert Sager, born on April 9, 2003 in Maryville, passed away in Missouri on August 21, 2023. Known for his kind spirited nature, Collin was a beacon of light to his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

Collin is survived by his loving parents Rob and Marci, of the home; sister, Madilyn Sager of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandparents, Milton and Janet Sager and Randy and Barb Adcock, all of Stanberry, Missouri; aunt, Julie Neuhalfen of Glenwood, Iowa; and his cousins, Matt, Luke and Allie Neuhalfen. Collin also leaves behind his uncle Joey (Kathleen) Adcock of Stanberry, Missouri, as well as cousins, Cooper, Kynzee and Jase. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Patrick Neuhalfen.

An exceptional athlete, Collin left a memorable mark in the sports community. His athletic prowess was evident in football, basketball and golf. Not only did he score over 1,000 points during high school, but he also was honored as All-State in all three sports. Further stretching his athletic abilities, he played basketball at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, concurrently studying to become an electrician.

A man of various interests, Collin passionately pursued hunting, fishing, and golfing. He found solace and joy in these activities. The company of friends was something that Collin genuinely cherished, with his laughter and kindness often being the highlight of their gatherings.

Collin Robert Sager will be fondly remembered and severely missed. He was a big man with a big heart, who gave great hugs and was a mama’s boy. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the light of his life will always shine bright in our hearts.

James Allen Hintz, Sr. 1938 - 2023

Ricky L. Montemayor, 75, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at a Kansas City, KS Hospital. He was born February 6, 1948 in St. Joseph, son of Mary and Charlie Montemayor. 

He graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1966, and he served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. On January 14, 1972, he married Lou Ella Young. He worked at Western Missouri Correctional Center, retiring in 2013,  and he also worked many years owning his Floor Covering Business. Rick enjoyed fishing, morel mushroom hunting, and taking trips to Table Rock Lake. He was a member of Word of Life Church. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, David Montemayor. 

Survivors include: wife of 51 years, Lou Ella Montemayor of the home, sons, Courtney (Tammy) Schweder of Hamilton, MO, and Brook Montemayor of Cameron, MO, brother, Duane (Glenda) Montemayor of Tampa, FL, sisters, Jennifer Montemayor-Evans of St. Joseph, and Rachelle (Tom) Pflugradt of St. Joseph, grandsons, Tyler Schweder of Benicia, CA, Kolby Schweder of Tucson, AZ, and Caleb Schweder of Hamilton, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ricky L. Montemayor, 75, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at a Kansas City, KS Hospital. He was born February 6, 1948 in St. Joseph, son of Mary and Charlie Montemayor. He graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1966, and he served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. On January 14, 1972, he married Lou Ella Young. He worked at Western Missouri Correctional Center, retiring in 2013, and he also worked many years owning his Floor Covering Business. Rick enjoyed fishing, morel mushroom hunting, and taking trips to Table Rock Lake. He was a member of Word of Life Church. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, David Montemayor. Survivors include: wife of 51 years, Lou Ella Montemayor of the home, sons, Courtney (Tammy) Schweder of Hamilton, MO, and Brook Montemayor of Cameron, MO, brother, Duane (Glenda) Montemayor of Tampa, FL, sisters, Jennifer Montemayor-Evans of St. Joseph, and Rachelle (Tom) Pflugradt of St. Joseph, grandsons, Tyler Schweder of Benicia, CA, Kolby Schweder of Tucson, AZ, and Caleb Schweder of Hamilton, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral Services and public live stream will be 2:00 pm, Monday, August 28, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home with Interment and Military Honors following at Mount Olivet Cemetery.<figure>

Valerie E. Blacketer, 63, Faucett, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

She was born May 7, 1960 to Louis Lee and Betty Jo (Palmer) Hendrix in Los Angeles, California.

She married Terry Duane Blacketer on June 4, 1993. She was a devoted spouse and never left Terry’s side.

Valerie enjoyed playing the keyboard as well as baking. She loved her cats and rabbits.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Rick Hendrix.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Melony Jones and Dawn Mechelle Jones (Jason); stepchildren, Dawn D. Hoffman, Tia Blacketer, and Shawn D. Blacketer; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel Hendrix; nephews, Brian, Billy, and Shawn M. Hendrix.

He was born on October 17, 1956, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Robert and Eldora (Tibbits) Willis.

Bobby was an independent truck driver for over 20 years.

He enjoyed NASCAR races, drag racing and communicating with his buddies over CB radio.

Survivors include Susie Willis of the home; his children, Shane Smith (Mica), Brandi Eckes, and Tommy Stogdill; grandchildren, Kiah, Alysha, Carsten, Kristina, Daytona and Arizona; great-granddaughter, Layla.

Wallis “Wally” Kay Winter was born on March 24,1940 in Tracy, Minnesota to Waldo and Evelyn Winter of rural Currie, Minnesota. She died August 19, 2023 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Wally grew up as a farmer’s daughter. She was an accomplished student, played the piano and flute, and was a church organist. She graduated from Westbrook High School (Westbrook, MN) in 1958. After obtaining a teaching certificate from Wartburg College (Waverly, IA), Wally earned a Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College (Rock Island, IL) and Master’s degree from Marycrest College (Davenport, IA), both in Education. She also earned many credit hours toward her doctorate.

Wally’s Christian faith was important to her. She found solace in prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with others. She sought to deepen her understanding of the Word and her relationship with the Lord.

Wally was a resource teacher for elementary and junior high school students with learning differences for many years in Davenport, IA. She had a special gift for identifying and encouraging each student’s strengths and talents and celebrating their achievements. Upon retiring, she moved to St. Joseph and volunteered at MidCity Excellence and Bartlett Center educating at risk youth. She also served as the MidCity Excellence board secretary for many years.

Wally also had a love and compassion for animals. She had an extraordinary devotion to her feline friends (Sydney, Princess and Noble) who brought her immense joy and comfort.

Wally is survived by her former husband, Elroy Gertner, and their son, Jonathan Gertner(Dana), daughter, Bethany Kent (Trey); granddaughters Madison Gertner, Mallory Gertner, Makayla Gertner, Lauren Kent, and Meghan Kent; sisters Betty Brown, Sue Wolff (David); and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Evelyn {Rolston} Winter; sister and brother-in-law Leah and Philip Grotte; nephew Jason Wolff, brother-in-law Tim Brown.

The family will gather for a Graveside Service &amp; Inurnment at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26th, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Connie Carla Wedel (Aunt Con), daughter of Delton and Sylvia Wedel, was born February 22, 1959, in Moundridge, KS. Her earthly journey ended on August 21, 2023, in Sabetha, KS, reaching the age of 64 years after battling cancer for nearly ten years.

She spent most of her childhood years in Copeland KS with 3 years being spent in Mexico. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on December 8, 1970, by Minister Cecil Unruh at Copeland, KS. She was faithful to her vows until the end. Miss Wedel began her teaching career at age 20 and taught at nine different locations for 26 years, touching many lives. She had an exceptional way of helping her students, forming many lasting relationships.

Detroit, Texas, was home for numerous years. In 2005, she moved to Hiawatha, KS, to be close to her sister Donna and her family. She became part of the Hiawatha Mennonite Congregation, taking an interest in and always enjoying visiting with her church family. She was thankful for their support throughout her cancer journey.

Her survivors include her parents, Delton and Sylvia; sister Donna (Steve Schmidt) Hiawatha, KS; brother Ross Phoenix, AZ; brother Tim (Patsy) Basin, WY; sister Jill Willey Roxton, TX; brother Marlo Koehn; sister Lois Villegas, sister Anita (Michael Beasley), numerous nieces and nephews, and two special friends, Aunt Loraine Valdez and Angela Holdeman.

Preceding her in death were three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday August 25, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha, KS. Burial will follow at Hiawatha Mennonite Cemetery; Memories will be shared after lunch is served. Elmo Eugene Batman, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away June 2023.

He was born on February 27, 1944, to Ralph Ermin and Martha Frances (Brown) Batman in Great Bend, KS where he grew up and attended school. Elmo served a short stent with the National Guard.&nbsp;

He played music his entire life from the age of 13. In 1969, Elmo moved to Kansas City, MO and continued his music career in the area playing with several different groups. Elmo also played with several different county music stars including Freddie Fender, Grandpa Jones, and String Bean.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Martha Batman; his sisters LaWanda Mae Farrell and Frieda Ilene Orr and brother Ralph Eldon Batman.

Elmo is survived by his brother Charles Lynn Batman; close friend Glenda “the Farmer” and childhood and life long best friend whom he played music with his entire life, Fred Juergensen; nieces, nephews, and many other friends.&nbsp;
