Charles L. Payne, 90, Carrollton, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
He was born on July 24, 1933, to Alek and Gladys (Parker) Payne in Hatti, Missouri.
On July 2, 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Cochell. They shared 60 years together before her passing in 2015.
Charles owned and operated his own business for 40 years with help from his sons, Steve and Joe. Charles was an accomplished diesel mechanic and enjoyed working on big diesel engines. He used this talent to repair many prize-winning cars. He also used his love of music to provide a musical influence on his sons, especially Joe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, and daughter, Cheryl Eden.
Survivors include his sons, Steven Payne and Joe Payne, grandchildren, Ellie Payne and Jo Catherine Prisby, and great-granddaughter, Vivian Prisby.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
