Doug Ray, 59, passed away on August 18, 2023. Doug was born March 30, 1964 in Dighton, KS to A. Elroy Ray and Betty (Moody) Kupfersmith.

He Graduated from Marysville High School in 1982. In the past he worked for Beattie Co-op, Union Pacific Railroad, Wertenberger Trucking and K-State Facilities.

Doug was best known for his quiet nature and his mischievous grin. Doug was a jack-of-all trades that enjoyed tinkering with mechanical and carpentry projects and everything in between. He was also an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and spend time outside with his dogs. Most of all Doug enjoyed spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews whom “Uncle Doug” patiently taught many a life lesson. Doug’s selfless dedication to his family and his mischievous grin will be dearly missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Betty and Fred Kupfersmith and Jackie Ray; brother-in-law Ed Miller.

He is survived by his father, Elroy, St. Joe, MO; Sisters: Debbie Miller, Marysville, Dorothy (Jerome) Watson, Apple Valley, CA; Diana (Steve) Shropshire, Cartersville, GA and Dodie (Wayne) Ray of Wamego.

Nephews, Dusty, (Jessy); Chris (Dewy); David; Stewart (AnnaMarie). Nieces: Jennifer (Chris), Jessica (Anthony) and Jackie; and several Great Nieces and Nephews.

Doug will be inurned on November 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Holton Cemetery, with his parents, Betty and Fred.

Tamara Lorraine (Roberts) Avalos 55, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday August 30, 2023 in St. Joseph. She was born May 25, 1968 in Iowa City, Iowa daughter of late Peggy &amp; Frank Roberts. 

Tamara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Brian Roberts, a step-brother, and a step-sister. 

She is survived by sons: Caleb McArthur, and and Jason Roberts, two granddaughters, two grandsons, four sisters, and 3 step-sisters. The family has no scheduled services at this time. 

She will be cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Robert E. Gann, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at his home. He was born January 31, 1933 in St. Joseph, son of Elva and Virgil Gann. 

He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1952. On April 8, 1960, he married Virginia &nbsp;Brunner in St. Joseph . He served in the US Navy and is a Veteran of the Korean War. &nbsp;Bob was a Union Painter with Local 98 in St. Joseph, working with Pearl Brewing Company, later Goetz Brewery and EM Gann Painting company alongside his brother, Dale. Bob could often be found working in his yard and tinkering in the garage. He enjoyed working puzzles, and was often reciting old limericks and telling life stories. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Gann in 2022, his parents, brother, Dale Gann, sisters, Lois Burnett, Dorothy Burnett and Sara Peck. 

Survivors include daughters, Juanita (Mike) O'Callaghan and Diane Kline of St. Joseph, sisters, Betty Hovey, Glenrose Seward, Elizabeth McVicker, Judith Goban, grandchildren, Courtney (Clint) Moran, Heather (Brad) Taylor, Brett (Jennifer) Kline, and Erin (Justin) Jones, great-grandchildren, Clareece, Gage, Hunter, Chloe, Maylee, Presley, Wyatt, and Elliott, and his cat, Tommy. As Bob would say, see you later, Alligator.

Terry Williams, 56, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023.

He was born March 9, 1967 in Raytown, Missouri to Robert and Barbara (Rathke) Williams. He was a graduate of Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

Terry proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 13 years.

He loved reading, especially about history, military/war and fantasy. In his younger years he enjoyed camping.

Howard Lynn Carder 72 of Plattsburg Missouri died Tuesday August 29, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St Joseph Missouri. Born on September 15, 1950, in Gallatin Missouri to Howard G. and Opal I. (Roland) Carder.

Howard Lynn Carder 1950 - 2023

With his cherished wife Linda, four children and many grandchildren gathered around his bedside, Howard L. Miller breathed his last breath on August 30, 2023. It was a peaceful and sacred passing after a well-lived life.

Howard was born on May 6, 1942, in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Ethel and Howard J. Miller and joined sister, DonaFay. The Miller family soon moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, where Howard became a fixture on the north side of St. Joseph and made friends that remained until his last days. Howard was a star basketball player for Lafayette High School, then played for the University of Missouri, Kirksville College and St. Joseph Junior College. Howard worked for Hillyard Industries, then started Bethany Falls Transit Company and in 1995, founded Spirit Miller Trucking. He was generous and kind with his success, and quietly took care of many people in need.

On October 15, 1966, Howard married Linda Liddle, who survives of the home. Together they had four children: Mike (Melissa) Miller, Joey Austin, Kris (Tim) Larson and Casey (Grant) Smith. Howard became “Papa” to his twelve grandchildren, whom he adored: Blake, Katie and Nick Miller; Matt, Will and Annie Austin; Grace Drost (Jeb), Ellie and TJ Larson, and Carly, Addison and Reese Smith. One of his greatest accomplishments was making sure his children and grandchildren knew the love of Jesus Christ. Because he was such a wonderful father and grandfather, he made it easy for his family to trust the Heavenly Father.

Howard loved Brookdale Church and was a faithful and dedicated member for decades. He volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, was on the session and finance committees, and counseled many leaders through difficult times. He served throughout the community on many boards and committees, and his motto was, “If I’ve got a nickel, you’ve got 2 ½ cents.” He made the best chicken noodle soup which cured many ailments and could fix any problem or issue with a phone call to “a guy he knew.” While many thought he had the gift of hospitality, he really only wanted to spend time with his family, his lifelong friends, but most of all, his sweetheart Linda by his side (especially with a cup of coffee on the patio).

While we mourn here on earth, we know Howard is experiencing the greatest joy that C.S. Lewis captured perfectly in The Last Battle: “All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page; now at least they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read; which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”

Ruth E. Reinhart, age 84, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully Saturday, August 26, 2023, at her residence in Atchison, KS.&nbsp;

Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 10:30 am at St. Benedict Church, Atchison, KS. She will be laid to rest at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, CO. Cremation care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Ruth was born in Manhaska, KS, on October 28, 1938, the daughter of Lester Edgett and Mildred M. (Tidyman) Edgett. She attended schools in Alameda, CO.&nbsp;

Ruth was most importantly a mother and homemaker. She enjoyed playing bridge, travelling, golfing and line dancing but she loved the time spent with her family, close friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Carolyn Marie Russell 84, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday August 28, 2023 in St. Joseph. She was born February 15, 1939 in St. Joseph, MO.,  daughter of the late Katherine &amp; George Davis. 

She served in the United States Army. Carolyn worked at area nursing homes as a Nurse. She enjoyed taking care of people, playing bingo and scrabble, and spending time with her family. 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and eleven brothers and sisters and three grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Clarence Russell of the home. daughters, Amy (Tina) Coats, Sandy Coats, and Mary Caw all of Saint Joseph, MO, son, Jeff (Marti) Coats, a sister, Glenda Barnes, seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.

William "Bill" Andrew Caw 59, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at his home. He was born May 20, 1964 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Theresa and Frank Caw Sr.

 He married Emma on &nbsp;September 4, 2021 and she survives of the home. &nbsp;He retired from L. J. Mueller Construction after many years of service. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the shooting range, working on hot rods, and mushroom hunting. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Franklin Caw Jr., 

Survivors include wife, Emma Caw of the home, two sons, Stephen Kerns and Craig Kerns of St. Joseph, MO.

William 'Bill' Andrew Caw 1964 - 2023

David Guy passed away on August 29, 2023. His wife and children surrounded him and prayed over him as he took his final steps towards his eternal home with the Lord.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rose Anna (Smith) Guy. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Fisher) Guy and their children, Tad Blanton (Taby), Amanda Guy Skinner (Scott), Mindy Ritchie (Ame), Brandi Grier (Chris), Zachery Guy (Jessica); his best friend and brother Michael Guy (Robbin), and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. David is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he loved so deeply, Madelyn (18), Kalyn (15), Jacelyn (12), Jaxton (7), Tallan (1), Morgan (21), Cassidy (18), Scout Lilian (11), Eulalia (2), Phoenix (6), Tanner (10), Charlee (4), Blake (2 months), Zander (11), Zaydence (8), Parker (7) and Carter (1).

He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, St. Joseph, Missouri, Doniphan County Historical Society, Robinson Lions Club and the Melodrama. David worked for Atchison Casting (Bradken) as a maintenance mechanic.

David loved his family. When asked what he was most proud of, he responded “my children who gave me grandchildren.” He could always be found holding a baby, swinging with the kids on a swing or helping them light firecrackers on the 4th of July. David worked for Atchison Casting (Bradken) as a maintenance mechanic.David loved his family. When asked what he was most proud of, he responded “my children who gave me grandchildren.” He could always be found holding a baby, swinging with the kids on a swing or helping them light firecrackers on the 4th of July. David E. Guy 1964 - 2023

Roger D. Griggs Sr., 49, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in St. Joseph. He was born September 5, 1973 in St. Joseph, son of Sharron and Gerald Griggs. 

Roger enjoyed fishing and watching football. 

He was preceded in death by parents, brothers, Rex Sr., Randy, Bobby and Roy Griggs.

Betty A. Huston, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023.

She was born in Osborn, Missouri (Dekalb County) to Cleo Albert and Evelyn Marie (Hess) Anderson on December 25, 1940.

After graduating from Lafayette High School in north St. Joseph, MO in 1959, Betty married Larry Lee Huston on May 5, 1960. Betty and Larry enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Larry passed in 2014.

Family was always the most important thing to Betty, and she very much loved any and all visits from her 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

She rarely had a harsh word for anyone and loved to have all the family gatherings at her house when possible.

Betty also had a cherished group of childhood and high school friends that she would meet for lunch on a regular basis throughout the years. Again, she had the most fun when she would host at her house.

A great cook, Betty was especially known for her holiday peanut brittle when she would spend hour upon hour stretching the brittle so that she could share it with family and friends. Nobody left Betty’s house hungry!

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, William D. “Bill” and Leonard A. Anderson.

Survivors include son, Rodney Huston (Christie) of Glendale, AZ; daughters, Rebecca Gach and Patricia Cope, both of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Kristina Fowler (Josh) of Olathe, KS, Kyle Gach (Katie) of Boulder, CO, Tyson Gach (Kristen) of Nashville, TN, and Kaleigh Shoemaker (Andrew) of Olathe, KS; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Heidebrecht, Greenville, SC, and brother, Mark Anderson (Penny), Owasso, OK; sister-in-law, Carol Anderson of Effingham, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Warren Walter Plamann, 73, formerly of rural Hiawatha, died June 27, 2023 at a care facility at Barrington, Illinois. He was 73.

Warren was born at Horton, KS September 27, 1949, one of three children born to Walter and Norma Morgan Plamann. He grew up near Hiawatha where he attended school and graduated high school with the class of 1967. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor of science in Hospital Administration.

Growing up on a farm, he was involved with 4H where he showed cattle. &nbsp;In later years, he loved his Great Danes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Warren served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years &nbsp;advancing to Chief Petty Officer as a hospital corpsman. After the Navy he began another career as a CT Tech for 16 years at Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington. After retiring Warren loved going to movies and enjoyed doing planted pots with his favorite flowers. His love and devotion was this family.

He married &nbsp;Dawn Patricia January 21, 1990. Warren and Dawn were blessed with a son Michael Joseph, and dear brother to Diana Stark and Teresa Allen.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, he was cremated with private services held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha where he was interred on the family lot. Pastor Michael Dunaway officiated. Military honors were a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Les passed away on Monday May 1, 2023 at his home in Spaulding Illinois, Les was the eldest grandson of F. Keith and Ethel M. (Erickson) Straub, the son of Loyd A. and Annalouise (Christy) Straub. Les was born on January 13, 1961 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Les was preceded in death by his grand-parents, parents, one grandson (Keith Straub) and wife Teresa “Terri” L. Straub, who passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

&nbsp;Les and Terri were married on April 8th 1989, and would have celebrated 34 years together. They met while both working at Jewel- Osco in Springfield Il, in 1988. They raised three children and lived in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. As well as raising their children they have been strong and loving influences for several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. &nbsp;

Les was a 1979 graduate of Mahomet-Seymour High School in Mahomet Il. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University. Through the years Les served as a district manager for Osco Drug and Meijer Inc. most recently worked for Quicksilver Mailing Services. Les was a member and secretary of Joe’s Slovak Club, he was an accomplished trout fisherman, enjoyed golf, Illinois football and basketball as well as a dedicated Kansas City Royals and Indianapolis Colts fan. Les was a loving husband, brother and proud father and uncle, and even prouder grandfather.

Terri graduated from Williamsville High School in 1977. Terri was a loving wife, sister and daughter. She had a unique sense of humor and infectious laugh. With her warm and welcoming heart she wrapped each family members and particularly her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews in a blanket of love and support to last a lifetime.

&nbsp;They are survived by son Shawn (Lindsay) Turner of Colorado, Maria Straub of Indiana and Eva Straub of Illinois. Les’s sister Barb Straub (Ron Hucke) of Nebraska, Terri’s father Jim Stevens of Illinois, Terri’s sister Gail (Nick)Lemmo of Indiana. They have six granddaughters, Juliet Straub, Esme Rock, Katlin and Kendall Cruze, and Margaret and Violet Turner, two grandsons Toby Straub and Kaiden Garrett. Nieces Amy (Ben) Scamehorn: great-nephews Drake and Jackson, and Suzy (Josh) Richardson: great-niece Ashlynn, and many more.

Graveside committal services for Teri and Les is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 4, 2023 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha (along the NE part of cemetery).

Ron Johnson, 79, of rural Hiawatha, died Friday morning, August 25, 2023, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha where he had been a resident a short time.

Ron was born at Norwich, CT, September 22, 1943, the only child of Margareta Johnson. When he lived at Groton, CT, he worked with General Dynamics building submarines until 1998 when he and his wife Donna moved to the country near Powhattan, KS.

He enjoyed working as a blackjack dealer at Sac &amp; Fox Casino from 1999 until 2011 when he retired.

Ron enjoyed hunnting and fishing in his earlier years. In Connecticut, he had a red sailboat “The Pan” that he loved to sail.

Survivors include his wife Donna Pfister Johnson, two daughters: Ronna (Mike) Keith, Lynn (Rick) Darragh; two grandchildren: Katherine Darragh and William Keith.

At his request, he was cremated with no services planned at this time.

Ronald Chester Johnson 1943 - 2023

James F. "Jim" Broker was born June 15, 1939 in Oregon, Missouri, and graduated from Mound City High School in 1958.&nbsp;

On September 2, 1958 Jim married Mary Jane Dwyre. To this union two daughters were born. Jim worked construction early in their marriage. In July 1965 he began working for the CB&amp;Q Railroad as a telegraph operator. The CB&amp;Q merged with Burlington Northern Railroad and Jim worked as a railroad agent until his retirement in 1988.

After retirement he worked for the local Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge (now Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge) near Mound City at the front desk, and assisted the refuge naturalist and park ranger in teaching young people about wildlife, the environment and refuge management.&nbsp;

Jim worked as a deputy for the Mound City police department. This inspired his creation of a digital book published in 2014 called, "The Last Marshall." Jim and Mary also owned and operated a real estate agency in Mound City in the 1980's.&nbsp;

Jim was an avid writer and photographer. Over the years Jim wrote and published "Evening Light," a Christian newsletter. He also wrote articles for the St. Joseph News Press and for various magazines. While living in Union, Mississippi in 2001 and 2002 he wrote and edited a weekly column for the Union Appeal newspaper. Jim also had a photography studio in Forest City in the 1970's. Among his many other interests were reloading, archery, leather work, ham radio operator, and target practice.

Most important to Jim was the work of the Lord. He served as pastor at Benton Church in Forest City and later in Gentryville, Missouri, Urich, Missouri, and then Union, Mississippi. He held various revivals all over many states.

Jim felt most called as an evangelist. He traveled through Mexico, Belize, and British Honduras on foot with good friend and fellow minister James Huskey. Jim later traveled to Hawaii, Australia, and New Zealand in the late 1980's spreading the word of God.

Jim faithfully read his Bible every night from a young age due to the influence of his grandparents Ezra and Ida Martin, whom he lived with during his formative years.&nbsp;

Jim and Mary celebrated 60 years of marriage before Mary passed away on February 18, 2019. Jim passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at a St. Joseph, Missouri care center. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Survivors include his daughters, Catherine Elizabeth Younger of Mound City, Missouri and Mary Ann (Gus) Pardo of Big Lake Village; four grandchildren, Joshua (Sirena) Younger, Katie Leach, Jason (Falisha) Leach, and Austin Leach; six great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters. Jim and Mary's biggest request was for all the family to make Heaven their home.&nbsp;

He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Dearle was born during a blizzard in January 1948, at the home of the local doctor. He was the son of Eunice and Daniel Wamsley, and grew up on a farm in Whiting, Kansas, learning the importance of hard work and the love of family. Dearle graduated High School in 1966 and then joined the United States Air Force. A small-town man at heart, he was thrust out to explore more of the world during his time stationed at Hickam Air Force base in Hawaii and Yokota Air Force Base in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to Nebraska and married his high school sweetheart, Charlene.&nbsp;

After the family moved to Kansas City, he completed his education as an aircraft mechanic and excelled in his field. Dearle enjoyed a long career with Trans World Airlines where he worked from 1974 until his retirement. He was a mechanic to his core, whether it be car or plane engines. His skills carried over from his profession, and he went above and beyond in every task to ensure they were completed with such quality they would pass any inspection. This profession ignited the true passion he had for flying - a passion that continued through to the end of his life.

He passed along these interests to his children, starting with them bringing him tools to holding the flashlight from the time they were toddlers and could barely walk. During their teenage years, you were most likely to find them sitting in an engine compartment or lying on their backs under a car with their heads next to their dad’s. They have continued to share his love of cars, being able to fix most any problem and restoring classic Chargers and MOPARs for their own enjoyment.

He was never interested in taking the quickest route from one point to another, always finding the most scenic back roads, coasting over the hills, looking out for wildlife, and the next story to tell when he finally arrived at his destination.

Dearle never met a stranger and would strike up conversations wherever he went. He always wanted to know more about the people he met, and they recognized the pure kindness of his spirit and the genuine interest he had in their lives.

In retirement, he was able to spend even more time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed talking to his many friends in Smithville and Nebraska, discussing cars, farming, collecting various one of a kind items, and occasionally sharing stories over a few cuss words and a cold Busch beer. He was a passionate gardener, which allowed him to spend time tending to his family’s land and appreciate the beauty that nature provided. His love for the outdoors brought out his gentle free spirit, but he was the happiest in the company of his family and friends.&nbsp;

Nothing brought more joy to his face and sparkle to his eyes than the pride he felt for his children and grandchildren. He would never take credit for the qualities they portrayed, giving credit for their intelligence and good grades to Charlene, their accomplishments to his children, and not realizing much of the gentleness and honesty they demonstrated were a reflection of himself.

During our time of grief, it has brought us some comfort watching Dearle continuing to experience the things he loved the most. He was able to spend quality time at Roosterville Airport and taking evening flights with his grandson who has developed his love of flying. And just a couple of weeks before he passed, Dearle was able to attend a tractor show with his family and demonstrate the knowledge and interest he had in tractors and old steam engines. Despite being in poor condition, he never wore out or became fatigued while pointing out features and continuing to share his interests.&nbsp;

Dearle’s lasting legacy will always be his profound desire to help and love everyone he met.&nbsp;

JoAnne (Jody) Bruggen, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on Sat. Aug. 26th, 2023, at her home in Kansas City, MO, surrounded by family.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, Oct. 7th, 2023, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Atchison, Kansas with Fr. Jon Hullinger, Rector, officiating. 

A private interment will be in the Trinity Episcopal Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, the Atchison Children's Library, or Crossroads Hospice, and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Jody was born on July 12, 1929, in Rochelle, IL, the daughter of Lloyd A. and Margaret (Shear) Koritz. She graduated Salutatorian from Rochelle Township High School, Rochelle IL. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development and Family Relations. 

Jody worked as Director/Teacher of the Atchison YMCA Preschool and the Neenah, WI YMCA Preschool. She was President of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was a member of the Panhellenic Council. She was elected to the Sigma Chi Sweetheart Court. Jody enjoyed sports in her youth and swam competitively. Mrs. Bruggen was a past President, Vice President, Secretary and Director of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, a past Vice President and Secretary of the Atchison Library Board of Trustees, a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Bellevue Country Club, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Kansas and traveled to the United Kingdom to participate in their founders’ activities. She served as Secretary for the Atchison Art Association, publicity chairman for the Riverbend Art Fair, Chairman for the National Endowment for Performing Arts 3rd Grade Art Pilot Project, Board member of the Atchison Community Theatre, Publicity Chairman for the United Way Drive &amp; Hospital Auxiliary Follies. 

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church where she served as a former Sunday School Teacher and on the Altar Guild, Flower Ministry, and member of the St. Martha’s Guild. Jody was a loving wife, mother, and doting grandmother. She had a terrific sense of humor. She made us and all who cared for her laugh and had a way of making life feel lighter even up until the end. However, her life’s most enduring legacy is the incomparable and ceaseless love she gave her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. From her warm hugs to the delicious meals and desserts she prepared, she nourished her family in countless ways. No accomplishment by her children or grandchildren was too small to celebrate. To her family’s irritation at times, she endlessly documented her loves ones’ lives and times spent together with photographs and scrapbooks that will be a treasured testament to the deep love she gave. Jody was a super nurturer who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was a voracious reader, supporter of many charities, genealogist researcher, avid KU fan, and lover of life. She enjoyed family vacations spent in Cabo San Lucas, Baja and the family lake home in Park Rapids, MN. When we think of Jody, we like to picture her here with a good book, laying out and enjoying the sun, on a perfect blue-sky day. Jody was married to her college sweetheart, Richard J. “Dick” Bruggen on June 30, 1951, in Rochelle, IL. 

Mr. Bruggen preceded her in death on June 30, 2007. 

She is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Jack) Ferguson, Lee’s Summit, MO, and Margaret “Meg” (William) Zahner, Kansas City, MO, and son Dr. Joel T. (Shannon) Bruggen, Winston Salem, NC, seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Joel) Lyngar, John Ferguson, Ellie (David) Filston, Ben Bruggen, Katy (Matt) Castilleja, Claire and Liam Zahner, and five great grandchildren, James, Luke &amp; Noah Lyngar, Kalliope Garcia, Wren Castilleja ; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mary Jane Greenwood and brother Dr. L. Thomas Koritz.

Natasha Lynea Scott 38, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 in St. Joseph. She was born October 30, 1984 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of Coral &amp; Randy Phillippe. 

She attended Lafayette High School,  and she was a home health care Caretaker. She enjoyed taking care of people, she loved music, like the under ground Memphis rap, and her cat baby Bat. 

Natasha was preceded in death by her father, Randy Lee Phillippe, and best friend, Brandon Randall. S

Loric Lippard, 48, of St. Joseph passed away August 28, 2023, at his home. Loric was born December 30, 1974 in Pontiac, Michigan to Clint and Mary (Good) Lippard.

He was a graduate of King City High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University. He worked at several organizations close to our hearts including Progressive Community Services, Silgan Containers and most recently, Nestle Purina.

Loric married the love of his life, Allison Saxton on October 8, 2011, in Oregon, MO. They lived in St. Joseph with their son Elijah, and their beloved dogs, Willow, and Pugsley. Surviving family members include Allison and Elijah, as well as his brothers Mike Lippard, Cliff Lippard (Elizabeth), and eleven nieces and nephews. He was so deeply loved.

He enjoyed throwing cards and cracking packs with his brother Cliff, storytelling with his friends and family around a campfire and most of all he loved to laugh.

Visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. Services will be Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gene was born on August 30, 1952, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Charles and Margaret (Alfers) Boeh. He was a lifelong resident of Troy where he farmed and was a mechanic.

He is a member of the Freedom of the Road Riders.

Shelly Annette (Rahm) Daffron 59, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 at her home in Saint Joseph, MO. She was born November 14, 1963 in St. Joseph, MO. 

She graduated from Central High School and worked as a bar tender at Hammer Heads for 15 hears, Nortys Bar and Grill for 5 years, and most recently at the Eagles Lodge. She married Dennis on June 20, 2012 and he survives of the home. She enjoyed traveling, shopping at Ross's, flowers and plants, and spending time with her children, grandkids, and friends. She also loved throwing parties, and was a member of the Eagles Lodge. 

Shelly was preceded in death by father, Dennis Rahn, and sister, Sharee Lynn Brandt. 

Survivors include husband, Dennis Daffron of the home, mother, Sherry Hovey (Chuck"Cowboy" Dubois, St. Joseph, MO, sons, Nathan (Tabatha) Brant and Bryson (Morgan) Brant of St. Joseph, MO, sister, Kelly (Paul) Robreau of Lake Ozark, MO, grandsons, Tatum Shelter, and Seth Shellito, granddaughter, Scarlett Brant, as well as several nieces &nbsp;&amp; nephews.

Melvin "Russ" Marrs, known as Russ, passed away on August 26, 2023, at the age of 86. Born on September 25, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, he lived a fulfilling and joyful life.

Russ was a proud veteran, serving his country valiantly in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958. He was a man of unwavering strength and courage. Post his military service, he married the love of his life, Rosemary Travis, sharing almost 50 years of marital bliss before her passing in 2005.

A loving father, Russ is survived by his children, Sean Marrs (Mandy), and Elizabeth West. He relished his role as a grandfather, cherishing his grandchildren, Hayden Marrs (Emily), Dylan Marrs, and Erica White. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Abel White and Jupiter Ingleheart. His sister Mildred Brooks; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Sally McIntyre, Janice McCormack, Martha Ideker (Ron), and Sam Creed, along with numerous nieces and nephews, also survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Mildred (Bolda) Marrs, his son, Troy Marrs, brothers Chuck (Donna) and Ronald (Virginia) Marrs, and his in-laws, Dorothy and Denzil Travis; brothers-and-sister-in-law, Sonny McCormack, Owen McIntyre, Ralph Travis, Jerry Travis, Linda Creed; nephew, Eric McIntyre.

Wesley Russell Yager, 63, of St. Joseph, MO passed away, August 24, 2023.

He was born August 23, 1960 to Monte Dee Sr and Pat Ruth (Lane) Yager in St. Joseph, MO. He grew up in St. Joseph and graduated Lafayette High School.&nbsp;

In 1984 he was united in marriage to Dina Nelson. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph and had two children.&nbsp;

Wes worked at Continental Screw Conveyor in St. Joseph for over 20 years and retired from Summit Truck Bodies in Wathena, KS. He was an avid outdoorsman and a car and truck enthusiast.
