James C. Cormier peacefully departed this world, family and friends on November 15th, 2023 in Columbia, Missouri.
James was born on August 3, 1931 to Albert and Elizabeth Cormier in Jennings, Louisiana. He was the youngest of eight children- six brothers and one sister.
He graduated from Minnesota Bible College in in 1954 and also attended Ozark Bible College the following year began his more than 60 year career of preaching at Gentry Christian Church in Arkansas and then throughout the Midwest until his final position in Tipton, Missouri. Here he retired with his loving wife of 71 years, Lucy Mae Tevis ( Cormier).
They had two children- Kevin precedes him in death at the age of 39, and Matthew has two children, Carson and Calissa and is married to Miranda. He is also survived by Kevin’s three daughters- Kristen, Stephanie, Danielle, and three great-grand children - Christopher, Noah, and Hudson.
He loved preaching the word of God, calling on families in their homes and attending to the spiritual needs of hospitalized church members. He always had a smile on his face and never knew a stranger. When he wasn’t preparing a sermon, he was always reading or working odd jobs, helping his sons practice their sports, gardening, and working on the cars.
Gravside services and interment will be held at 2 pm, November 21 at the Agency Cemetery in Agency, MO. Cards and memorials may sent to the funeral home in care of the family.
He will be dearly missed by all that knew him well and he goes to a better place now.
