Kenneth "Kenny" Dean Sherlock 65, of Dearborn, MO, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 in a St. Joseph, MO hospital. He was born June 3, 1958 in Maryville, Missouri, son of the late Margaret &amp; Howard Sherlock Sr. He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1976, and was a lifelong farmer. Kenny married Jeanan Swoboda on November 2, 1979, and she survives of the home.  He enjoyed gardening, messing with his cows, tinkering in his shop, spending time with his family and friends, letting his grandkids beat him in cards, and the T.V. show Yellowstone. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kent Sherlock, and sister, Rebecca Sherlock, and a nephew, Kyle Juhl. He grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and was in St. Joseph for over the last twenty plus years. &nbsp;After retirement he worked as a security guard.

He enjoyed music, rock collecting, and played guitar.

Survivors include his children; Leanne Bata, Jerry Kelly, Jr., Mary Millard, Adam Kelly, Kelly Anderson, Jojo Kelly, Sarah Kelly, Jordan Kelly, Nancy Kelly; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Herman Kelly, Jr.

Jerry Lee Kelly 1941 - 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we remember the life and legacy of Jerry Arnold, who departed this world on September 16, 2023. Born on August 9, 1930. Jerry lived a full and exemplary life characterized by dedication, service, and faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susanne on August 25th, 2023, with whom he shared an incredible journey spanning 70 years of companionship and devotion.

Jerry's love and care extended to his children: Tim (Tammy) Arnold of St. Joseph, MO; Joseph Arnold (Cynthia) of Indianapolis, IN; Jon Arnold of St. Joseph, MO; and preceded in death by his beloved daughter Shelly Scott, who remains cherished in our memory. His legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, a testament to the beautiful family he loved over the years. He was preceded in death by his grandchild Ella Reece Scott.

He participated in Boy Scouts as he was growing up, earning the Eagle Scout award, the highest honor in scouting. Later, he attended Platte College, where he successfully completed his studies and earned a degree in accounting.

Jerry served as a computer programmer at St. Joseph Light and Power for 15 years. He was among the pioneers of one of the first accounting computer systems operating in the state.

A new chapter began in 1972, as he and Susanne embarked on the adventure of Arnold's Grocery in Clarksdale Mo, a grocery store that became a part of the community &nbsp;for 15 remarkable years and a part of their lives together for which they are fondly remembered. During this time Jerry taught himself various skills through self-study, including the tools of the trade for being a butcher.

He dedicated 30 years of his life to Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate as a Realtor, aiding families in finding their dream homes. He also served on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Missouri Realtors and was voted Realtor of the Year in 2003, retiring at age 87.

Proudly, Jerry often recalled his time with the Navy during the Korean War. He was honored to be a part of the crew of The USS Corporal (SS-346) Submarine, requiring courage and dedication.

His passion for his Christian faith was reflected in his many roles: from leading as the President of the St. Joseph Baptist Association to serving as a Deacon at the Clarksdale Baptist Church. He also served as a Buchanan County Mo Chaplain, where he was part of an outreach ministry to inmates. In a testament to his faith, Jerry learned Spanish, becoming a part of a ministry to the local Hispanic population.

He took community leadership in several different roles. Serving with dedication, he was the esteemed Master of both the Saxton Lodge of St. Joseph and the Clarksdale Masonic Lodge.&nbsp;

Furthermore, his unwavering commitment to the community was also evident in his role as the Mayor of Clarksdale, MO.

Jerry also generously gave his time volunteering at the Jesse James Museum. Jerry told tales from the days of Jesse James, bringing out little known details about the outlaw's life.

Jerry's boundless curiosity and love for knowledge was evident in his eclectic interests. He was a talented painter and carver, a practitioner of Tai Chi, and was always eager to explore many forms of exercise. His thirst for knowledge led him to become an avid reader.

One of the most cherished memories that stands out is the twinkle in his eyes whenever he was around his grandchildren. His playful spirit came alive during those moments, filling the room with laughter and joy. Whether it was a game, a story, a joke or simply a smile, Jerry had a special way of connecting with his grandchildren, making every moment count.

Jerry's legacy is one of unwavering commitment, unending curiosity, and unparalleled service. As we remember him, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, the institutions he shaped, and the community he loved. Rest in peace, Jerry Arnold. Your life was a beacon of dedication and love.&nbsp;

Jerry Arnold 1930 - 2023

Yvonne Marie Pfleiderer, aged 88, of Easton, Missouri, peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday, October 28, 2023. She was born on April 9, 1935, to Gilbert and Letha Wiedmaier (Cooper), and was the second eldest of 12 children. Yvonne attended and graduated from Clarksdale High School. Not long after, she met and married the love of her life, William E. Pfleiderer, on October 17, 1958. They spent 44 wonderful years together before his passing in 2002.

Yvonne is survived by her son, Martin Pfleiderer, and his wife, Andrea, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Madison and Alec Pfleiderer. She is also survived by her siblings: Nancy Garton, Robert Wiedmaier, Ronald Wiedmaier, Gilbert Wiedmaier Jr., Diane Crouse, and Donald Wiedmaier. Preceding her in death was her husband, William Pfleiderer, her parents, as well as her brothers James, Francis, Edwin, and Wilfred Wiedmaier, and her sister, Janet Haverkamp.  

Funeral services will be held at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2023, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Blakely Cemetery after the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Blakely Cemetery.  Yvonne was a member of the Garden Club and Blakley Cemetery board. She had a deep passion for sewing, gardening, and playing dominos. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carol Strong, 90, of St. Joseph, Missouri; passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at a local hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born on June 16, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Emil and Irene (Grimes) Roeder. &nbsp;She was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph and attended St. Francis Xavier School and Sacred Heart High School.

Mrs. Strong was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to caring for her family, she retired as a librarian after working at McKinley and Parkway Schools.&nbsp;

Carol was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Altar Society.

Carol married Jerry A. Strong on June 5, 1954 . &nbsp;They celebrated 61 years of marriage, until his passing on May 19, 2015.

Survivors included four sons, Jerry Michael (Karen), Jerry Kirby (Karen), Jerry Shawn (Jody), Jerry Robert (Rhonda); a daughter, Mary Cynthia Barker (Robin); twelve grandchildren, Brandon, Jason, Andrea, Kyle, Konor, Eric, Katie, Justin, Gracie, Trevor, Ashley and Danielle; numerous great-grandchildren and additional family, Terry Strong.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Strong was preceded in death by her infant son, Jerry Shane Strong, infant sister, JoAnn; three sisters, Shirley Lehman, Sandy Smith and Sharon Roeder; &nbsp;two brothers-in-law, Skip Lehman and William Smith and several aunts and uncles, and two nephews.

Larry D. Bryson, 75, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023.

He was born November 14, 1947 to George Lloyd and Florence Georgia (Turpen) Bryson in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Larry married Paula Kay Montgomery on April 20, 1969 and were married for 53 years before she passed in 2022.

He enjoyed watching westerns as well as spending time with his granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; daughter, Kimberly Bryson; and brother, David Bryson.

Survivors include his children, Steven, Gregory, and Amy Bryson; granddaughter, Kaylynne.

Larry D. Bryson 1947 - 2023

David K. White, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully October 26, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born to Merlin and Betty (Spurgin) White on August 18, 1952, in Sabetha, KS.

He leaves behind his beloved mother, Betty Aeschliman (Kenny); wife, Lillia Theresa; children, Peter (Sheila) and Jared White (Shana Kelly); grandchildren, Holly Cheatum (Billy), Eric Wingo (Kailey), Ian White, Peter Alexander White, Jacob White; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Paul (Lori), Mike (Tammy), and Tim White (Jennifer); sister, Gail Woodward (Stan); stepsister, Julie Bradley Newberry; stepmother, Shirley White; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father, Merlin White; brother, Peter White; and his grandparents.

David was an alumnus of Central High school, class of 1970 and later graduated from Missouri Western State College. He was a proud serviceman in the United States Army. He tied the knot with his wife Lillia on May 27, 1977. Their bond of love and understanding remained strong and inspiring throughout their life together.

David was an active member of the St. Francis Parish where he also lent his voice as a bass singer in the choir. He also enjoyed spending time playing the guitar.

David K. White, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully October 26, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born to Merlin and Betty (Spurgin) White on August 18, 1952, in Sabetha, KS.He leaves behind his beloved mother, Betty Aeschliman (Kenny); wife, Lillia Theresa; children, Peter (Sheila) and Jared White (Shana Kelly); grandchildren, Holly Cheatum (Billy), Eric Wingo (Kailey), Ian White, Peter Alexander White, Jacob White; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Paul (Lori), Mike (Tammy), and Tim White (Jennifer); sister, Gail Woodward (Stan); stepsister, Julie Bradley Newberry; stepmother, Shirley White; and many beloved nieces and nephews.David was preceded in death by his father, Merlin White; brother, Peter White; and his grandparents.David was an alumnus of Central High school, class of 1970 and later graduated from Missouri Western State College. He was a proud serviceman in the United States Army. He tied the knot with his wife Lillia on May 27, 1977. Their bond of love and understanding remained strong and inspiring throughout their life together.David was an active member of the St. Francis Parish where he also lent his voice as a bass singer in the choir. David K. White 1952 - 2023

Janice Long was born on September 3, 1946 to Walter and Lylas Hamilton. She graduated from Ritenour High School in St. Louis, and then worked until she enrolled in Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. It was there that she met John Long. They were married on March 25, 1967, and became parents of two daughters.

Jan later returned to school and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1999.&nbsp;

Jan was a rural housewife, cooking and bringing food to the field and working on their Mound City farm. She volunteered at the United Methodist Church and at the Mound City school where her daughters attended. She was an Avon district manager for four years. Jan was a head daycare teacher in St. Louis for two years, and a head daycare teacher at La Petite in St. Joseph. She later worked at Mound City Thriftway for 11 years. She was currently working at Amazonia Elementary School as a paraprofessional.&nbsp;

She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog, shopping, decorating her home, and helping her daughters decorate theirs. She enjoyed vacations with her close friends and family. Jan enjoyed the annual Christmas shopping trip with her daughters and grandchildren, family games of BINGO, and celebrating birthdays with her family. When she was younger she enjoyed playing cards. Jan also enjoyed working outside in her yard. She was loved by her Savannah co-workers and the children she taught. Jan enjoyed dancing and spending time with her friends at The Klub.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her children, Jennifer (Brian) Kelly of Rock Port and Mandy (Jacob) Crider of &nbsp;Mound City; brothers, Jerry (Carolyn) Hamilton of Athens, Texas, and Greg (Linda) Hamilton of Wright City, Missouri; grandchildren, Lauren, Brecken, and Landrey Kelly, Emma Long and Maycee Crider; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Betty Jean Reynolds, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

She was born January 8, 1937 in St. Joseph to Glen and Bessie (Walker) Woods. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1955.

Betty married Neil Ellis Reynolds on June 29, 1956. He survives of the home.

She was a secretary for the Missouri State Welfare Office in the Division of Family Services for many years.

Betty was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed reading, beautiful sunsets and decorating the house for the seasons. Betty was a wonderful cook known for her coffee cake, cheese grits and her world-famous chocolate chip cookies.

Betty loved her family very much and was always “up for anything.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Deanna Gibson.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Neil; children, Kirk Reynolds and Kathy Blair (Brian); six grandchildren, Audrie and Gracie Blair, Michael Wilson, Tyler Sisk, Kylie Reynolds (Joe), and Chase Reynolds; sister, Pat Borkowski; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Mark Alan Munsell 1956 - 2023

Ali Wray, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 25, 2023, at the age of 79. She was born to Wanda (Ball) and Robert F. Keatley on March 21, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri. The family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri where Ali attended Edison Grade School and Central High School. Upon graduating, she pursued higher education by attending William Jewel College. However, she met the love of her life, John Wray, at her first job as a life guard at Noyes Pool and transferred to Southwest Missouri State University where John attended college.&nbsp;

John and Ali married in 1963, they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Ali loved being with her family and planning holidays with them. She also enjoyed needlepoint, working out, reading, traveling, word puzzles and enjoying God’s creations!

Ali is known for her volunteerism and commitment to her community. She served on the boards of United Way (and was the Allocation Chairman for 6 years), President of Allied Arts Council, Chairwoman of Trails West and of the Trails West Steering committee for 10 years, the board of Samaritan Center, Family Guidance Center, Pony Express Museum (where she served as Chairman of the Pumpkin Fest), The Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri. She also served as a cook at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, was appointed by Governor Mel Carnahan to serve on the Missouri Arts Council and carried the torch for the Olympics when it passed through St. Joseph. She and Sherry Hausman founded Project COPE with the Pony Express Boy Scouts of America which is now known as the high adventure course.

Ali was also very active in Wyatt Park Christian church, serving as deacon, elder and moderator.

Ali is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Wanda Keatley, her brother Bob Keatley, an infant son, and brother-in-law David Morgan.

Ali is survived by her husband John Wray, their children Bob (Brenda) Wray, Stacy (Shon) Petitt, Debbie (Chad) Cotter, and Jenny Wray. Six grandchildren: Caitlin (Kasey) Wray Skala, Skyler Petitt, Boston (Rachele) Wray, Samantha (D’Angelo) McDougal, Keatley Cotter and Jenna Cotter. Five great-grandchildren: Nia McDougal, Margot Skala, Addison Skala, Niko McDougal and Kienan Wray. A sister, Barbara Morgan, sister-in-law Jo Keatley, and step-siblings Kathy Newman, John Parker and Bob Parker and one niece and five nephews.&nbsp;

James R. Moynagh, 90, of Hiawatha, KS, died at Amberwell Hiawatha Hospital on October 24, 2023 with his family by his side. &nbsp;He was born on June 10, 1933 to John Edward and Marie (Mueting) Moynagh in Sabetha, KS. &nbsp;

After farming in Nemaha County, he and his family moved to Brown County in 1949 to farm and raise livestock. &nbsp;He graduated from Powhattan High School in 1952 and joined his father in the farming operation. &nbsp;James had a life-long passion for farming and shared that love with his family. &nbsp;Many memories were made showing cattle and being active in 4-H with his daughter. &nbsp;

He married Marilyn Bougher in 1967 in St. Joseph, MO and celebrated their 56th anniversary this year. &nbsp;They had one daughter, Teresa (Moynagh) Tosh. &nbsp;

While he loved the farm, James’ favorite role was that of Grandpa. &nbsp;He treasured time with his two grandchildren and loved sharing stories and time with them, never failing to find an adventure for them. &nbsp;They loved spending time in the summer on the farm and attending the county fair.

James was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Ann (Moynagh) Brune of Ankeny, IA, and Elizabeth (Moynagh) Playfair of Happy Valley, OR, and his brother-in-law, Harold Brune of Ankeny, IA. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Bougher) Moynagh, his daughter, Teresa (Moynagh) Tosh and husband Carl Tosh of El Dorado, KS, and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Tosh) Brod and husband Nicholas Brod of Tampa, FL, and Noah Tosh and wife Haylie (Schweitzer) Tosh, of Goddard, KS, brother, Dr. Pat Moynagh and wife Jane (Isch) Moynagh, Krum, TX, brother-in-law, Brian Playfair of Happy Valley, OR, and multiple nieces and nephews.

Moynagh, 90, of Hiawatha, KS, died at Amberwell Hiawatha Hospital on October 24, 2023 with his family by his side. &nbsp;He was born on June 10, 1933 to John Edward and Marie (Mueting) Moynagh in Sabetha, KS. &nbsp;After farming in Nemaha County, he and his family moved to Brown County in 1949 to farm and raise livestock. &nbsp;He graduated from Powhattan High School in 1952 and joined his father in the farming operation. &nbsp;James had a life-long passion for farming and shared that love with his family. &nbsp;Many memories were made showing cattle and being active in 4-H with his daughter. &nbsp;He married Marilyn Bougher in 1967 in St. Joseph, MO and celebrated their 56th anniversary this year. &nbsp;They had one daughter, Teresa (Moynagh) Tosh. &nbsp;While he loved the farm, James’ favorite role was that of Grandpa. &nbsp;He treasured time with his two grandchildren and loved sharing stories and time with them, never failing to find an adventure for them. &nbsp;They loved spending time in the summer on the farm and attending the county fair.James was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Ann (Moynagh) Brune of Ankeny, IA, and Elizabeth (Moynagh) Playfair of Happy Valley, OR, and his brother-in-law, Harold Brune of Ankeny, IA. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Bougher) Moynagh, his daughter, Teresa (Moynagh) Tosh and husband Carl Tosh of El Dorado, KS, and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Tosh) Brod and husband Nicholas Brod of Tampa, FL, and Noah Tosh and wife Haylie (Schweitzer) Tosh, of Goddard, KS, brother, Dr. Pat Moynagh and wife Jane (Isch) Moynagh, Krum, TX, brother-in-law, Brian Playfair of Happy Valley, OR, and multiple nieces and nephews.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31st at St. Ann Catholic Church. &nbsp;Father Dan Gardner will be the celebrant. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. &nbsp;A Rosary will be prayed on Monday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m. at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S. 7th, Hiawatha, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m.&nbsp;Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:00 Monday, October 30th.Memorials may be made to the 4-H Clubs of Brown County, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S. 7th, Hiawatha, KS &nbsp;66434, or of your choice.<figure>

Blue Springs, Missouri…&nbsp;Barbara Lee Neil, age 95, passed away on October 22nd, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 29th, 1927, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Harry H. and Lula Opal (Cogdill) Stansch.

Barbara married the love of her life, Donnie Neil, on March 23, 1947, in Maysville, Missouri, and to this union a daughter was born.

She worked in the office at Northwest State University in Maryville while her husband, Donnie attended school there. After they moved to the Blue Springs area, she worked at the Blue Springs Bank. She then worked as a secretary in an elementary school in the Blue Springs School District and also in the central office at the Blue Springs School District for 29 years.

Barbara loved music, her piano, snow skiing in Colorado, traveling to Hawaii, and she especially loved her family and her dogs!

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband with whom she shared 75 years together; her brother, Herschel; and great-granddaughter, Miley.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Walsh, grandson, Neil Walsh; six great-grandchildren, Riyder, Eayston, Jaxon, Noah, Stella, and Patsy.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Turner Family Funeral Home in Maysville, with burial immediately following at Butler Cemetery.Family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Barbara Lee Neil 1927 - 2023

Nathan Wayne Bigelow, born on August 22, 1979, in St. Joseph, Missouri, peacefully departed this world on October 25, 2023, in the comfort of his home in St. Joseph. He was 44 years old.

Nathan is survived by a loving and devoted family, including his cherished mother, Barbara (Nichols) Bigelow, and his caring father, Wayne Bigelow (Jeannie Scott). Nathan's memory lives on through his four beloved daughters, Lanie Colleen (Hochenauer) (21), Annalynn Elizabeth (10), Katherine Norah (7), and Addison James (5); step-brothers Bill and Walter; step-sisters Kelley and Christina; cousins Brian, Chrissy, Anthony, and Nicholas; "The Cousins" Angel, Bobbie Jo, Catherine, Victoria, and Ashley; his best friend Bacon Bigelow, and especially his significant other, Tessa Lund. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and countless cousins who held a special place in their hearts for him. His many friends and neighbors, who became like family to him, will forever remember his kindness and camaraderie. (A special thank you to Mark and Zara for your kindness and spiritual support for Nathan and the family during this difficult time.)

Nathan served as an unofficial auditor for the St. Joseph School District, where he dedicated his efforts to making a positive impact on the education of the local community. Nathan attended Bishop LeBlond, Central, Benton, and Lafayette High Schools, eventually earning his GED. His tenacity and commitment to his education were qualities that inspired those around him.

Nathan started his professional career in the Restaurant Industry. He worked in/managed many restaurants in the area, most notably, Applebees, Bandannas, CiCi's Pizza, Houlihan's, and 54th Street. Many in the area also knew Nathan as the friendly face of the local FedEx delivery service. He was a dedicated courier who went above and beyond to ensure that packages reached their destinations, even braving the elements, as evidenced by his memorable appearance on the cover page of the Kansas City Star, pushing through a mountain of snow to ensure Christmas packages were delivered. Rumor has it that he also made a memorable appearance as the FedEx man (with Opie) during St. Joseph's Dancing with the Stars, adding an element of joy and laughter to the community.&nbsp;

Nathan's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by family, friends, and neighbors who were touched by his warmth, dedication, and sense of humor. We will remember him for his love of family, his commitment to his community, and his ability to bring joy to those around him.

William Leroy Caldwell, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023.&nbsp;

He was born March 14, 1934 in Altamont, Missouri to William and Irene (Drummond) Caldwell. He was a graduate of Maysville High School.

Leroy married Alma Lucille “Billie” Crowley on April 21, 1956. She survives of the home.

Leroy worked for the railroad and St. Joseph Stockyards before working as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, where he retired after 20-plus years.

Leroy also owned and operated Norty’s Bar and Grill for 20-plus years, where many locals made lasting memories.

He loved to take care of his yard and go boating and fishing, especially at Lake Viking. He was known for making enchiladas, beans and “cold chili.”

Leroy was very loyal to his family, who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Caldwell; his parents; and brother-in-law Chuck Culver.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Billie; children, Vickie Kanatzar and Steve Kanatzar (Jodi); grandchildren, Brandon Kanatzar (Jalaina), Nicole Montgomery (Michael), Deana Lee (Joe), Brooke Cortez (Robert), and Gabrielle Caldwell; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Culver; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family members, including special cousin, Gordon Wilson.

Janet L. Shackelford, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 73. She was born on September 17, 1950, to the late John Leslie and Elizabeth Claudine (Miller) Daniel in Gentryville, Missouri.

Janet graduated from Stanberry High School in 1968. She married Rickey Joe Shackelford on October 26, 1968 and were married for 50 years before his passing in 2019.

She dedicated a remarkable 55 years of her life to the American Angus Association, where she was deeply appreciated for her love and friendly nature by colleagues.

Janet was a beloved family member and friend. She is survived by her sister, Linda Bentley; brother-in-law, Roger Shackelford; nieces and nephews, Susan Buttress (Jamie), Doug Bentley, and Derick Shackelford (Shelley); numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, and many workplace friends.

Edward "Ed" Harlan Stalder was born December 1st, 1954, in Fort Meade, Maryland, to his loving parents, Harlan Ray Stalder &amp; Cynthia Catherine Stalder.&nbsp;

Ed’s father, Harlan, was a Sergeant First Class E-7 in the U.S. Army and in 1955, they moved over to Kaiserslautern Germany Landstuhl Air Base, where his sister Cindy was born in 1957. His father Harlan eventually retired in 1969 and moved his family back to Smithville, Missouri. Ed’s father, Harlan, passed away at the very young age of 39.&nbsp;

Ed was a very stubborn and feisty young man and his mom, Cynthia, sent him to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri in 1970. Cynthia Catherine remarried in 1971 to Donald “Pulley” West Pulliam and his brother Justin “Ryan” Pulliam was born in 1974. Ed met his future wife, Ellen Elizabeth Sellars when he moved back home to attend North Platte High School in Dearborn, Missouri. Ed and Ellen got married their senior of high school, on Ed’s birthday, December 1st, 1972. Shortly thereafter they had their first son, Daniel Ray Stalder on July 5th, 1973.

Ed joined the Chicago Northwestern Railroad on June 1, 1973, as a conductor/ brakeman in Kansas City, Missouri. He was soon promoted to yardmaster, making him the youngest yard master in the country during that time.&nbsp;

Their second son, Zachary Todd Stalder, was born in Smithville, Missouri on October 21st, 1978. During this time, Ed was also a volunteer member of the Edgerton Fire Department from 1978-1981.&nbsp;

Ed and Ellen had their only daughter Megan LeeAnn (Stalder) Tollefson on June 10, 1983, in Smithville, MO. Shortly thereafter, the Kansas City Railroad yard shut down, and Ed relocated his whole family to Omaha, NE.&nbsp;

Chicago Northwestern was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1995. Ed served various roles, always prioritizing his role and schedule, to accommodate his family. He never missed a single practice or game of his 3 kids, whether it was wrestling, football, baseball, softball, or track. He retired from his epic 43-year tenure with the railroad to do what he always wanted to do, which was to be a grandpa to his grandbabies.

Ed Stalder was a loyal, faithful, and proud grandpa “Papa”. His devotion to his 7 grandchildren went unmatched. He poured his knowledge and experiences into Tucker Niles (15), Cade Harlan (12), David Samuel (9) [Megan and David Tollefson’s sons], Emerson Elizabeth (7) [ Zach and Tiffany Stalder’s daughter], and Jordyn Payge (22), Morgan Elizabeth (15) and Meagan Marjorie (11) [Dan and Sasha Stalder’s daughters].

Even after being diagnosed with stage 4 Esophageal Cancer, he continued to fight valiantly to spend as much time with his family as possible. Ed invested his time and energy in his grandbabies’ activities, including school functions and sporting events. Time spent at Grandpa’s house meant eating junk food, sneaking Mountain Dew and Kit Kats, using tools, gardening, sanding, swimming in the pool, and starting a lot of bonfires. Beyond his time spent with his grandbabies, Ed was a die-hard Raiders fan (along with any other team his son-in-law David played for in the NFL) Whether it was attending the 2011 Super Bowl game, numerous wrestling meets, and softball tournaments he was a sports enthusiast and kids/grandkids biggest supporter. He was always in the middle of a never-ending project or idea he found scrolling on Pinterest. He was a true believer in Big Foot. Ed loved to “EXCESSIVELY” tinker in the garage on his Harley Davidson Road King. He also poured his talents into woodworking and building furniture for family and friends. Ed’s backyard was his own Oasis constantly under construction. With the best of intentions, Ed’s projects often extended to other people’s properties and shrubbery, not always with their permission, but would be offended if they were not appreciative.&nbsp;

Whether Ed was your husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, friend, or foe, those who knew Ed, know that he loved hard and fought hard for those he loved to the very end!!

His father Harlan eventually retired in 1969 and moved his family back to Smithville, Missouri. Ed’s father, Harlan, passed away at the very young age of 39.&nbsp;Ed was a very stubborn and feisty young man and his mom, Cynthia, sent him to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri in 1970. Cynthia Catherine remarried in 1971 to Donald “Pulley” West Pulliam and his brother Justin “Ryan” Pulliam was born in 1974. Ed met his future wife, Ellen Elizabeth Sellars when he moved back home to attend North Platte High School in Dearborn, Missouri. Ed and Ellen got married their senior of high school, on Ed’s birthday, December 1st, 1972. Shortly thereafter they had their first son, Daniel Ray Stalder on July 5th, 1973.Ed joined the Chicago Northwestern Railroad on June 1, 1973, as a conductor/ brakeman in Kansas City, Missouri. He was soon promoted to yardmaster, making him the youngest yard master in the country during that time.&nbsp;Their second son, Zachary Todd Stalder, was born in Smithville, Missouri on October 21st, 1978. During this time, Ed was also a volunteer member of the Edgerton Fire Department from 1978-1981.&nbsp;Ed and Ellen had their only daughter Megan LeeAnn (Stalder) Tollefson on June 10, 1983, in Smithville, MO. Shortly thereafter, the Kansas City Railroad yard shut down, and Ed relocated his whole family to Omaha, NE.&nbsp;Chicago Northwestern was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1995. Ed served various roles, always prioritizing his role and schedule, to accommodate his family. He never missed a single practice or game of his 3 kids, whether it was wrestling, football, baseball, softball, or track. He retired from his epic 43-year tenure with the railroad to do what he always wanted to do, which was to be a grandpa to his grandbabies.Ed Stalder was a loyal, faithful, and proud grandpa “Papa”. His devotion to his 7 grandchildren went unmatched. He poured his knowledge and experiences into Tucker Niles (15), Cade Harlan (12), David Samuel (9) [Megan and David Tollefson’s sons], Emerson Elizabeth (7) [ Zach and Tiffany Stalder’s daughter], and Jordyn Payge (22), Morgan Elizabeth (15) and Meagan Marjorie (11) [Dan and Sasha Stalder’s daughters].Even after being diagnosed with stage 4 Esophageal Cancer, he continued to fight valiantly to spend as much time with his family as possible. Ed invested his time and energy in his grandbabies’ activities, including school functions and sporting events. Time spent at Grandpa’s house meant eating junk food, sneaking Mountain Dew and Kit Kats, using tools, gardening, sanding, swimming in the pool, and starting a lot of bonfires. Rodney VanSickle, 71, of Kansas City, MO passed away, October 21, 2023.

He was born on December 1, 1952 to William Dale and Mildred Ileane (Ponting) VanSickle in Kansas City, KS. Rod grew up in the Northland and graduated from Oak Park High School.&nbsp;

Rod made his home in Kansas City and loved hunting and fishing.

Rod is survived by his brothers, Chester (Joyce) VanSickle and James VanSickle (Deanna Zerr); two nephews, Tyler (Chelsea) VanSickle and Chandler (Christina) VanSickle; great nieces and great nephew, Rogan, Millie, Bella; other relatives and many friends.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4th at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1441 NE Englewood Rd Kansas City, MO.

David passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his family.

April 5, 1937 to October 24, 2023David passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his family.David lived his entire life in St. Joseph, with the exception of a short time in Independence, MO. &nbsp;He had extensive knowledge of St. Joseph history, which he loved to share.He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1955. &nbsp;He then attended St. Joseph Junior College, after which he graduated from Northwest Missouri College in 1961.He met Nancy (Caley) Bridenstine &nbsp;and they married in 1962. &nbsp;She preceded him in death in 2000. &nbsp;He was &nbsp;also preceded in death by his mother Margaret (Daly) Hiatt.He worked at Hertz Rent A Car, while also working &nbsp;part time at the Missouri Air National Guard. &nbsp;David &nbsp;then joined the Guard full time in 1972. &nbsp;Eventually, he became a recruiter from which he retired after 40 years of service.After retiring, &nbsp;he worked at OATS Transportation for 20 years.Survivors include his three children; son George (Tom) and Stacy of St. Cloud, MN; daughter Nina and Mark Hill of Hamilton; son Paul and Jody of St. Joseph, MO; &nbsp;grandchildren; (Tom &amp; Stacy) Majia (Angelo), Rael (Sergio), Tiana, Marissa (Randy), Ammon, Myleen, Esther, Aaleyah. &nbsp;(Nina &amp; Mark) Destiny; (Paul &amp; Jody), Andrew (Briana), Alex, and Aaron; seven great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and other family; brothers Richard (Susie) Hiatt of Huntsville, AL and Robert (Linda) Hiatt of Edgar Springs, MO.In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Second Harvest Food Bank, Mount Mora Cemetery Association, or the Leukemia Society.David was one of the good ones and will be missed beyond measure.Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. &nbsp;Services will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at the funeral home.
