Charles S. Pinzino, 76, Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024.
He was born September 25, 1947 in St. Joseph to Charles and Margaret (Bono) Pinzino.
Charlie attended Cathedral grade school and graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1965. He earned a BA in Theology from Christian Brothers University in Memphis and an A.C.S. certified BS in Chemistry from Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
He was a retired research chemist (MRIGlobal, Kansas City, where he was awarded eight U.S. Government patents) and co-authored articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He previously taught high school in Memphis and in Omaha, worked in pharmacology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and as a water chemist in Texas.
Charlie was also a folk guitarist and musician. He studied classical technique with Anthony Glise of St. Joseph and taught guitar lessons at Eshelman Music and Bowman Music in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He has performed and recorded extensively with hammer dulcimer player and Missouri Music Hall of Fame member Esther Kreek and accompanied her and fellow guitarist Jerry Faier for several years at the St. Joseph Museum’s Prairie View Festival (1980-1990).
Charlie was a published poet and member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Omecene (Ed) of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers, Frank Pinzino of St. Joseph, James Pinzino (Nancy) of Dallas, Texas, John Pinzino (Nadine) of Kansas City, Missouri, Anthony Pinzino (Bonnie) of St. Joseph, and Michael Pinzino of St. Joseph; nieces and nephews, Beth, Chad, Andrea, Matt, Kristen, Scott, Karla and Kaitlyn; many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Saturday, St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Inurnment Mount Olivet Cemetery. Parish Rosary 5:00 P.M.
