Edward Forest Steeby 1931 - 2024

Edward Forest Steeby was born in Savannah, Missouri on February 24, 1931. He was one of eight children of Ammon R. and Zelma F. (Palmer) Steeby.

Ed graduated from Savannah High School, and then was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. He was honorably discharged in March of 1954.

On April 18, 1954 he married Frankie Elaine Lillard, and they became parents of four children. Ed retired from the Mead Products Co. in St. Joseph, Missouri after 38 years of work.

Ed enjoyed coaching fast-pitch softball, farming, gardening, country music, and dancing. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. 

Ed peacefully passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by family, at Benedictine Living Community in St. Joseph, MO at the grand age of 92 (and 3/4).

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Frankie; brothers, William “Bill” Steeby and Floyd “Jake” Steeby; and sisters, Zelpha Steeby, Bernita Hughes, Mildred Johnston, and Donna Shreve.

Survivors include his children, Sharon (Don) Wells of St. Joseph, David (Diana) Steeby of Savannah, Trina (Tim) Spoonemore of Savannah, and Beth (Bill) Canole of Platte City, Missouri; sister, Faye Atkins of Savannah; eight grandchildren; Karri Chladek (Nathan), Eric Steeby (Jessica), Travis Wells (Jenna), Becky Millsap (Cass), Jodi Spoonemore (Tyler), Cory Steeby, Hunter Canole, and Kinsey Canole; seven great grandchildren; Lily, Cruz, Brett, Ben, Jolie, Tanner, and Allie; and many nieces and nephews.  

Graveside services and interment: 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Fillmore Cemetery. The family will host a Celebration of Life immediately following the graveside services at The Hall in Fillmore, where he loved to dance.

Memorials may be directed to the Fillmore Cemetery Association. Care entrusted to Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Missouri.
