LIVINGSTON COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 6:30a.m. Monday in Livingston County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2022 Ford F350 driven by a 26-year-old man from Chula was westbound on Highway V at LIV 251 two miles east of Chillicothe.

The pickup struck the drivers side of a southbound 2005 Buick LeSabre driven by an 18-year-old Chillicothe man who failed to yield when crossing Highway V.

Chillicothe EMS transported the teen to Truman Medical Center. The pickup driver was not injured. The teen was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Missouri teen injured after pickup, car crash

The Kansas City Chiefs needed overtime to get the job done, but remained the lone unbeaten team in the NFL and set the franchise record for the most consecutive wins, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-24 at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night.&nbsp;

The 14 consecutive wins date back to last year.&nbsp; Previously the longest winning streak was 13 games, back between 2019 to 2020, when Kansas City made the first Super Bowl run in 50 years.&nbsp;

After both teams traded punts to open the game, it was Harrison Butker that got the Chiefs on the board first, late into the first quarter, hitting a 40 yard field goal.&nbsp; Following that, the Buccaneers put together an 11 play drive that carried into the second quarter, ending with a seven yard touchdown run by Rachaad White, who grew up in Kansas City and attended Center High School.

An 11 play drive by the Chiefs on the ensuing drive consumed over six minutes of clock, and for the first time since he joined Kansas City after being traded last week, Deandre Hopkins found the endzone on a one yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes.&nbsp; The Chiefs wound up leading 10-7 at the halftime break.&nbsp;

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield put together a nice drive to take the lead back at the start of the second half, driving down the field and finding tight end Cade Otton for a go ahead touchdown.&nbsp; The lead was extended later in the quarter, Chase McLaughlin knocking through a 47 yard field goal, putting Tampa Bay up 17-10 going into the final quarter of regulation.&nbsp;

With the Buccaneers leading, Kansas City put together another long drive, 12 plays using up the final minutes of the third quarter and finding the endzone early in the fourth, Mahomes connecting with Samaje Perine for a seven yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; Following the play though, the entirety of Chiefs Kingdom collectively held their breath.

While scrambling to find Perine on the play, Mahomes appeared to tweak an existing ankle injury, and was helped off the field by trainers and into the blue injury tent on the sideline, while backup Carson Wentz began warming up in case he was needed.&nbsp; Following a Tampa Bay punt though, the crowd was loud, as Mahomes trotted back onto the field.

Even hobbled, Mahomes showed he was an MVP caliber quarterback, putting together a 15 play drive that ended with the welcome party for Hopkins continuing, as Mahomes again found the 12 year veteran in the endzone for a five yard touchdown pass, giving the Chiefs the lead back for the first time since halftime.&nbsp;

Both teams went on to trade punts, setting Tampa Bay up for one last drive to tie up the game, which Mayfield orchestrated over 15 plays, leaving just 27 seconds on the clock as Ryan Miller caught a one yard touchdown pass.&nbsp; With some question if head coach Todd Bowles would go for two, it was McLaughlin that marched on the field to knock through the extra point and leave the game tied.

The Chiefs made an attempt to get down the field, having three timeouts remaining, but were forced to punt and send the game to overtime.&nbsp; Kansas City won the toss, and chose to receive.&nbsp; Overtime wins and the Kansas City Chiefs, they go together like peanut butter and jelly, having not lost an overtime matchup since the 2021 AFC Conference Championship against the Cincinnati Bengals.

A 10 play drive for the Chiefs ended the game, as Kareem Hunt plunged into the endzone from two yards out, one play after Travis Kelce nearly found the endzone on a quick pass from Mahomes, advancing the Chiefs to an 8-0 record.&nbsp;

Mahomes put together his best game of the season thus far, going 34 of 44 passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions, the first this season Mahomes had no turnovers.&nbsp; Hunt rushed 27 times for 106 yards and a score.&nbsp; Kelce had 14 catches for 100 yards, while Hopkins had eight catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chiefs will stay in Kansas City next week for their first AFC West rivalry matchup at Arrowhead Stadium, after traveling to the Chargers and Raiders, taking on the Denver Broncos in Week 10.&nbsp; Kickoff is at noon with pregame at 11am on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM) and Q Country 92.7

Chiefs win franchise record 14th consecutive game, beat Buccaneers 30-24 in OT

New representation in Congress will be decided by voters in
Kansas’ Second Congressional District on Tuesday.

Incumbent Republican Jake LaTurner decided not to run for a
third term.

The decision surprised Republican Derek Schmidt of
Independence, the former state Attorney General, and motivated him to get in
the race.

“He made the unexpected decision not to seek re-election and
that presented really a choice,” Schmidt tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. “I think
our country has some serious challenges. We need serious people who want to get
in and try to fix some things.”

Schmidt says he wants to address inflation, illegal
immigration, and intrusion of big government if elected to Congress.

As for Democrat Nancy Boyda of rural Baldwin City, she decided
to run for the office she once held, because, as she puts it, she couldn’t sit
by and watch what is going on in the country.

“Like health care, like immigration, like the price of
housing. All of that can be addressed by a Congress,” Boyda tells KFEQ/St.
Joseph Post. “The lack of being able to even function in Congress that has
brought our country to this place that we are today.”

Boyda won the second district seat in 2006 and served for one
term. Boyda also served in the Pentagon.

Illegal immigration is a big topic this election, especially
in the race for the White House. It is big in the Second Congressional District
of Kansas race as well.

Boyda says Congress has failed to address illegal immigration,
which she says could have been resolved 16 years ago, when Congress considered bipartisan
immigration legislation.

“The Democrats didn’t want to do this bill to start off,
because they thought it would look like anti-immigrant. And the Republicans said
it’ll look like an amnesty bill,” according to Boyda. “So, both sides dug their
heels in and we’ve done nothing.”

Schmidt says the issue has grown much worse over the years.

“But in the last three-and-a-half years, there have been
nearly three times as many illegal aliens enter the United States as there are
people total in the state of Kansas; three times our state’s population,”
Schmidt asserts. “This is not just more of the same. Something’s different
today.”

Schmidt says he has talked to LaTurner about the office.

“So, he’s been very encouraging in this race,” Schmidt says. “I’m
very optimistic about the outcome, but we’re working hard all the way through Tuesday.”

Boyda feels confident about her chances, though the district
is heavily Republican.

“We’ve actually engaged the voters in a real conversation about
our democracy, instead of just throwing stones at each other,” Boyda says. “And
I think it will make a difference.”

The Second Congressional District of Kansas includes northeast
Kansas. It runs from the Nebraska border to the Oklahoma border with a carve
out for the greater Kansas City area.

2nd Congressional District of Kansas set to choose new representation

The never-ending threat of scam calls is again affecting Buchanan County using the name of the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.  

Sheriff Bill Puett says these con artists are using the name of his office to call and intimidate citizens, and Puett wants residents to be aware of the threat. 

"We don't call and demand money, we don't call and threaten people wtih arrest, we don't do that, but unfortunately these unscrupulous people will call and threaten our citizens and try to force them into giving them gift cards and all those things," Puett tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. 

Three different variations of scam calls using the name of the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office have been prevalent within the community since last week.  

Puett says it's unclear whether the groups are working together, but says each call revolves around the same type of theme 

"It all circles back around to hey you're in trouble, you've done something wrong, you've missed jury duty, you have an arrest warrant, you have whatever, please go out and give us gift cards and we will take care of your warrant so you won't have to appear," Puett explains. 

Puett says the best thing to do if you’re concerned of this after one of these calls, is to hang up and contact his office, and you should never give personal information or debit or credit card numbers over the phone 

"We don't take debit or credit cards over the phone, we don't accept gift cards, we don't accept any of that stuff, and so those should be really, really big red flags for people if somebody is saying hey I'm deputy x, or I'm Seargeant or captain or whatever, because they really like to invoke the power of the Sheriff's office to threaten people," Puett says. 

Puett says his office would never threaten anyone in the first place but unfortunately when people are confronted with losing their freedom, they get scared and want to make things right

Buchanan County Sheriff warns of more scams

A 61-year-old inmate at the women’s prison in Chillicothe has
died of apparent natural causes.

Officials with the Chillicothe Correctional Center report
Sheila Phillips died Sunday morning.

Phillips was sentenced to prison in March of 2024, serving a
six-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter, armed criminal action, and
tampering with physical evidence from Stone County. Phillips was also serving
time for abandonment of a corpse from Dade County.

The pickup traveled off the road and struck the left rear side of a 2013 Mack Truck that was stationary on the east shoulder of the highway. After impact, the pickup traveled off the road and overturned down an embankment.&nbsp;

Holt County EMS transported the teen driver and a 19-year-old passenger from Plattsburg to Mosaic Life Care.&nbsp; The truck driver from Oklahoma was not injured. All three were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Two hospitalized in St. Joe after rear-end crash

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2010 GMC Sierra driven by a 34-year-old from Lathrop was eastbound and attempted to make a left turn onto MO 33 two miles east of Lathrop.

The GMC pulled into the path of a northbound 2003 Dodge 2500 driven by a 35-year-old Plattsburg man.&nbsp; The Dodge struck the drivers side of the GMC.

Tri-County EMS transported an 8-year-old boy in the Dodge to Children's Mercy. The drivers were not injured. All three were properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Bearcats stay on top of Riverhawks in back and forth battle

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats and Northeastern State Riverhawks traded blows at Bearcat Stadium on Saturday, but an early first half lead by Northwest was to much to overcome in a 44-26 victory for the Bearcats.&nbsp;

Northwest took the lead in the first quarter on their second offensive drive of the game, using a three play drive to find the endzone on a 27 yard rushing touchdown by Jadon Brady up the middle.&nbsp; Northeastern State narrowed the deficit through their two offensive drives, with field goals by kicker Troy Nguey of 33 and 23 yards respectively.&nbsp; The drive that led to the 23 yard field goal began after Northwest returner Dominic Myers fumbled the kickoff return.&nbsp;

The Bearcats pulled even farther ahead in the second quarter with touchdown passes by Chris Ruhnke, the first early in the quarter a six yard strike to Tyce Hoover, and another near the end of the frame a nine yard score to John Giagiari. But with 12 seconds remaining in the half, the Riverhawks narrowed the lead back to one score on an 11 yard touchdown pass by&nbsp;Dereun Dortch to Ramon McKinney Jr, leaving Northwest with a 21-13 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;

Opening the second half on offense, the Bearcats defense forced a three and out by the Riverhawks, and on the ensuing punt Myers made up for his special teams fumble earlier in the game, returning the punt 50 yards for a touchdown.&nbsp; But midway through the quarter, Northeastern State cut the lead to one score again as Dortch and McKinney Jr connected again for a 28 yard touchdown.&nbsp;

The Bearcats wound up unable to answer the Riverhawks score on their next drive and punted, but after a three and out by Northeastern State the Northwest special teams got the Bearcats on the board again with a safety, leaving Northwest with a 10 point lead heading into the final quarter of action.&nbsp;

Neither team was able to do much through the early minutes of the quarter, and it wasn't until midway through that Northwest would score again on another touchdown pass from Ruhnke, this time to Eric Richardson for 32 yards.&nbsp; The Bearcats put the game away with just over two minutes remaining in the game, Brady rushing for a one yard touchdown.&nbsp;

Dortch threw his final touchdown of the game with 50 seconds remaining for the final score, an 18 yard touchdown pass to Dedrick Taylor Akins.

Ruhnke was 15 of 22 passing for 177 yards with three touchdowns. Tank Young was the leading rusher with 17 carries for 82 yards, while Brady rushed seven times for 58 yards with two scores.&nbsp; Giagiari had three catches for 38 yards with a touchdown.&nbsp;

Northwest will next be on the road for a trip to St. Joseph and a rivalry matchup with Missouri Western.&nbsp; Kickoff from Spratt Memorial Stadium will be at 2pm.&nbsp;

#7 Benedictine falls just short in battle with #12 MidAmerica Nazarene

In a game that had a lot on the line, the #7 Benedictine Ravens fell just short of #12 MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers, falling 48-47 at the&nbsp;Olathe District Actives Center in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp;

A win in the matchup secured a foothold on the Heart South Championship and the conference's automatic berth into the 2024 NAIA Football Championship Series.&nbsp;Benedictine had won 7 of the last 10 meetings with MidAmerica Nazarene, but the Pioneers have held the series lead over the Ravens since 2005.

After the Pioneers opened the scoring in the first quarter, a 17 yard passing touchdown from Adrian Parsons to Myles Hymes, the Ravens stormed back to take the lead scoring on back to back drives, first getting a 50 yard field goal from Harry Balke, before Jackson Dooley threw a 12 yard passing touchdown to Tyler Watson.&nbsp;

MidAmerica Nazarene knotted the game up at 10 early into the second quarter, a 23 yard field goal by Trevor Highley, but again Benedictine took the lead back Dooley needing just two plays to find one of his favorite targets, Jacob Gathright, for a 56 yard passing score.&nbsp; That began a back and forth affair for the Ravens and Pioneers, with scores coming on the next three drives.&nbsp;

The Pioneers answered the Ravens two play drive with a two play drive of their own first, a 36 yard touchdown pass from Parsons to EJ Rogers to tie the game again, then just over three minutes later Benedictine took the lead back, Dooley with a 31 yard scoring pass to&nbsp;Joseph Lagafuaina.&nbsp; The score ended up tied at halftime, after Parsons again connected with Rogers to end an 11 play drive with a 17 yard score, the game going to halftime tied 24-24.&nbsp;

Neither team scored through much of the third quarter, until MidAmerica Nazarene grabbed the lead back with over four minutes left in the quarter, a 25 yard field goal from Highley giving the Pioneers a 27-24 lead going into the final quarter.&nbsp;

With everything on the line, both teams again began trading blows in the final frame of action, starting with the Ravens taking the lead back on another long touchdown pass from Dooley, this time 55 yards to JaShawn Todd.&nbsp; But the Pioneers scored on back to back drives following that, starting with a 24 yard touchdown ass from Parsons to Gaven Krans, the third different receiver to score.&nbsp;

MidAmerica Nazarene pulled out some trickery on the ensuing kickoff and went for an onside kick, ending up recovering it, and going on to push their lead to 10 points on a four yard rushing score from Cameron Finley.&nbsp;

But again the Ravens went on to tie up the game, first getting a 53 yard field goal from Balke with 3:30 remaining, and then after a defensive stand Dooley used just two plays to find Tanner Zimmerman on a 28 yard touchdown pass, leaving just 1:53 seconds left in the game, which was just enough time for the Pioneers to drive eight plays, using 1:34 seconds, and taking the lead back as Parsons found Krans again with a 17 yard strike.&nbsp;

Trailing 48-41 with 19 seconds left on the clock, the Ravens got some heroics from their kick return unit, as Todd returned the kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, leaving Benedictine with a decision to go for the win, or force overtime. Coach&nbsp;Joel Osborn opted to go for the win, and Dooley's pass attempt would fall incomplete leaving just seven seconds remaining.&nbsp;

After a failed onside kick by Benedictine, the Pioneers knelt out the remaining time for the victory.&nbsp;

Dooley was 20 of 32 passing for 413 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.&nbsp; Dalton Witherspoon was the leading rusher with 14 carries for 90 yards.&nbsp; Gathright (five catches, 137 yards, 1TD), Todd (five catches 118 yards, 1TD), and Zimmerman (five catches, 104 yards, 1TD) were the leading receivers.

Benedictine will next return to Atchison for Senior Day at Larry Wilcox Stadium, hosting Central Methodist.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 1pm.

Griffons fall to #13 Central Oklahoma after massive second half rally

Missouri Western rallied back from 13 points down in the second half against #13 Central Oklahoma, but fell after the Bronchos forced overtime and kicked a field goal to win 37-34 on Saturday at Spratt Memorial Stadium.&nbsp;

The matchup favored Central Oklahoma from the get go as they jumped ahead 14-0, a two yard rushing score by Andrew Carney in the first quarter, and a 37 yard passing touchdown from quarterback Jett Huff to Terrill Davis early in the second quarter.&nbsp; But the Griffons were able to narrow the lead back to a touchdown, quarterback Branden Berwald scrambling for a nine yard touchdown run, sending both teams to the halftime break with Missouri Western trailing 14-7.&nbsp;

To start the third quarter, the Griffons did for a Bronchos punt, but on the ensuing drive Berwald was intercepted by Kobey Stephens and off the interception Central Oklahoma extended the lead with an 11 yard rushing touchdown by Huff.&nbsp; From there, the Griffons began a rally of 27 unanswered points.&nbsp;

Running a no huddle offense Missouri Western was able to get into field goal range for kicker Cody Watson to knock through a 35 yard field goal, then after forcing another punt by the Bronchos, got within three points again running that no huddle hurry up offense, Berwald finding Jake Berrey in the endzone for a 17 yard touchdown pass.

The Griffons defense played lights out during the rally, again forcing a Central OKlahoma punt early in the final quarter of action, the offense drove down the field again to get into field goal range for Watson to tie up the game hitting a 40 yard field goal.&nbsp; &nbsp;Missouri Western forced another punt, but Berwald threw an interception, then after getting the ball back again took their first lead of the game on a 15 yard rushing touchdown by Marrell Fountain.

It was the defense that extended the lead for Missouri Western, the final score of the rally, with the Brochos running their own hurry up offense, Huff was intercepted by Cameron Powell who took the interception 35 yards to the endzone to put the Griffons up 34-20 with 5:36 left in the game.&nbsp;

The defensive touchdown for Missouri Western was the first of the season for the Griffons.&nbsp; The rally ended up being all four naught however, as from there it was all Central Oklahoma.&nbsp;

After a turnover on downs by Bronchos, Missouri Western was forced to punt, and Stephens, who had the interception earlier, took the punt back 92 yards for a touchdown narrowing the lead to one score. The Griffons turned the ball over on downs the next drive, giving Central Oklahoma the ball back with 1:49 remaining, and the Bronchos used almost the entire clock to drive the field, scoring a game tying touchdown with 13 seconds in regulation, a one yard run into the endzone by Dawson Herl.

A turnover on downs ended the Griffons first drive of the overtime period, allowing Central Oklahoma to send Nicky&nbsp;Quevedo out to attempt a 47 yard field goal, which he put through the uprights for a game winning field goal.&nbsp;

Berwald was 15 of 34 passing for 171 yards with one touchdown and one interception, also rushing 19 times for 116 yards and a score. Fountain rushed 13 times for 42 yards and a touchdown, while Jonas Bennett was the leading receiver with six catches for 74 yards.&nbsp;

Missouri Western will continue their final homestand to wrap up the season in the Battle of Highway 71 at Spratt Memorial Stadium on Saturday, a rivalry matchup with Northwest Missouri State.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 2pm

#17 Wildcats see lead slip away late against Houston after weather delay

Lightning kept the game from kicking off for almost an hour, but once it did the #17 Kansas State Wildcats battled hard with the Houston Cougars, but saw a lead slip away in the fourth quarter falling 24-19 at&nbsp;TDECU Stadium on Saturday.&nbsp;

The win was Houston’s first win over a ranked team since beating #19 SMU 44-37 on Oct. 30, 2021.

Once the game did get started, Kansas State was the first to get on the board putting together a long drive that used up nearly seven minutes of clock, but could only manage a field goal for the lone points of the first quarter, a 23 yard field goal by Chris Tennant.

The Cougars took the lead early in the second quarter, a one yard rushing touchdown by Donovan Smith, and scored on back to back offensive drives, following a Wildcats punt driving into field goal range for kicker&nbsp;Jack Martin to put a 22 yard field goal through the uprights for a 10-3 lead.&nbsp;

Kansas State again put together a long drive that again used much of the game clock, scoring a touchdown with 1:48 left in the half, a two yard rushing score by DJ Giddens, but on the extra point Houston blocked Tennant's kick attempt to leave the Wildcats trailing by one.&nbsp; A big defensive stand though gave Kansas State a chance to take the lead into the half, a fumbled recovered by linebacker Desmond Purnell, and they did end up with the lead quarterback Avery Johnson connecting with a diving Keagan Johnson from seven yards out, giving Kansas State a 16-10 lead at the halftime break.&nbsp;

With zeroes on the clock in the third quarter, Tennant knocked through the lone points of the quarter for Kansas State with a 47 yard field goal, ending the scoring for the Wildcats.&nbsp;

Early into the fourth quarter, the Cougars scored to get within one score Zeon Chriss throwing a one yard strike to receiver Maliq Carr.&nbsp; And after three consecutive punts, Houston scored the go ahead touchdown in just one play, a 41 yard rushing touchdown from Chriss to put Houston ahead 24-19.&nbsp; Avery Johnson threw an interception on the ensuing drive, but the Kansas State defense forced Houston to punt, however the game ended as Johnson was unable to complete a pass to finish a seven play drive that ended regulation.&nbsp;

Johnson was 23 of 39 passing for 238 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Giddens rushed 17 times for 50 yards and a score, while Jayce Brown was the leading receiver with three catches for 86 yards, while Keagan Johnson had six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown, his first of the season.&nbsp;

Next up for Kansas State will be a bye week.&nbsp; They'll next be in action on November 16th at home against Arizona State.&nbsp; The Big 12 conference has yet to announce a kickoff time.

Nebraska battles back late but fall short in loss against UCLA

The Nebraska Cornhuskers battled back from a 20 point deficit, but came up just short of the comeback falling 27-20 to the UCLA Bruins on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.&nbsp;

From the get go, the game was almost entirely in favor of the Bruins as the Cornhuskers managed just one first half score.&nbsp; UCLA got a 25 yard field goal from&nbsp;Mateen Bhaghani in the first quarter, before&nbsp;Ethan Garbers connected with&nbsp;Jalen Berger on a 10 yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter for a 10-0 lead.&nbsp;

Nebraska got onto the board and narrowed the lead to three on the ensuing drive following the Bruins touchdown, getting a four yard rushing score by Dante Dowdell, but UCLA answered the score with one of their own on the next drive, another field goal by Bhaghani, again from 25 yards out.&nbsp; The next three drives ended in punts for both teams before the Cornhuskers ran out of time and went to the locker room trailing 13-7 at halftime.&nbsp;

The Bruins defense extended the lead on the first play of the second half,&nbsp;Kain Medrano taking an interception back 38 yards for a score.&nbsp; After Nebraska turned the ball over on downs UCLA scored again on Garbers second passing touchdown of the day, 48 yards to&nbsp;Kwazi Gilmer, to push their lead to 27-7.&nbsp;

The rally for the Cornhuskers started on the very next drive, going 75 yards in seven plays, where freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola connected with Isaiah Neyor on an eight yard touchdown pass to cut into the deficit.

After a turnover on downs on their next offensive drive, Nebraska cut into the lead again late in the fourth quarter, Dowdell rushing in from one yard for his second touchdown of the day.&nbsp; With 3:57 left in the game UCLA got the ball back and was forced to punt, but their defense would secure the win, intercepting backup quarterback&nbsp;Heinrich Haarberg with 29 seconds left, going on to kneel out the remaining time.

Raiola was 14 of 27 passing for 177 yards with one touchdown and one interception.&nbsp; Dowdell rushed 17 times for 61 yards with two touchdowns. Neyor (four catches, 89 yards, 1 TD),&nbsp;Jacory Barney Jr. (four catches, 78 yards), and&nbsp;Thomas Fidone II (four catches, 16 yards) were the leading receivers.&nbsp;

Nebraska will have to wait one week to hope to snap a three game losing streak, with a bye coming in week 11.&nbsp; They'll be back in action on Nov. 16th at USC.&nbsp; Kickoff time has yet to be determined by the conference.&nbsp;

ATCHISON COUNTY, Mo. —One person was injured in an accident just before 10:30p.m. Saturday in Atchison County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Kia Sportage driven by a 65-year-old woman from Rock Port was northbound on U.S. 59 one half mile north of Fairfax.

The vehicle traveled off the east side of the road and struck a ditch. Atchison-Holt ambulance transported the driver to Community Hospital of Fairfax. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Missouri woman injured after SUV crash

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a confrontation with police.

Just before 1p.m. Thursday officers responded to a disturbance in the 100 Block South 8th Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

 Officers located a woman, later identified as 41-year-old Michema Laurent of Atchison, who had been involved in a disturbance. When&nbsp; confronted she threw a cup of liquid in a the police officer’s face. During the altercation with officers she kicked an officer in the face and chest and resisted arrest. Following her arrest she was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the County Jail.

&nbsp;Laurent is being held on requested charges of battery of a law enforcement officer, interference with law enforcement, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia..

Since no-excuse absentee voting began in Missouri on October 22nd, county clerks throughout the state have seen a spike in early voting.  

Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack Garvey says, as of Thursday, the voting at the courthouse has been picking up. 

"We're at 3,725 people who have come in to vote, and we're only at not even noon on Thursday, and we still have Friday, Saturday, and Monday for people to come in and vote," Baack-Garvey tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post 

Baack Garvey says the new period of no-excuse voting has increased the number of Buchanan County residents casting early ballots. 

"Yes, it is absolutely increased the turnout big time, because with the excuse voting we only had like 300 people come in, so it has totally been an advantage to our voters," Baack Garvey explains.  

Absentee voting remains open through Monday, with polls opening on Tuesday at 6am in Missouri.

The second annual Taste of Northwest Missouri Agriculture Market will take place November 16th in Maryville.

The event is a partnership between Northwest Missouri State University and the University of Missouri Extension.

Denice Ferguson, with MU Extension, says the goal is to work with ag entrepreneurs in the region. "We started the event to work with ag entrepeneurs to provide an environment where we do all the marketing. We've partnered with Northwest because its the culmination of their agricultural week, where they celebrate everything ag."

Ferguson adds the market is still looking for vendors to participate. She says it’s a good way for vendors to get feedback on their products. "We give the vendors a small compensation because we've asked them to do some sort of sampling. We want them to sample whatever their products are. Then we ask the attendees to fill out a very brief questionare to give the vendors feedback."

Ferguson goes on to say the market is especially in need of vendors who offer 'added-value' products. "Added-value is where you've taken something you've grown or produced and you do some sort of processing. It could be something as simple as vegatables where they are preserved or pickled."

As the grand finale to celebrate Agriculture Week, the market serves a way to highlight the rich diversity of regional farm and food ventures. The event is hosted by MAFFIC and the Northwest Missouri State University Agriculture Department.

The Doniphan County Health Department will hold the first ever Community Baby Shower this weekend to help out new and expecting mothers with a take  

Health Department Office Manager Wanda Moore says the idea for the shower came from a resident in Troy, and the Health Department worked with them and others in Troy to put the event together 

"So that we can make sure that our moms in the area, your younger moms, moms that aren't going to get a baby shower, we're wanting to make sure that they are going to have all the things that they need to begin once they bring that baby home," Moore tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post. 

The event will gift new and expecting mothers with gifts they might get at a traditional baby shower 

Moore says each vendor will also give away some education as well, such as the one of the hospitals who will show how to bathe a baby 

"And they're going to pick up something from each one of those tables," Moore explains. "Like at the baby bath one we might hand out a baby towel and wash cloth set, so they have the ability to learn something and yet take something away at each table as a gift from the community." 

There will also be a raffle for attending mothers to put a ticket into for larger items such as play pens, strollers and car seats. 

Moore says on top of gifts and learning experiences, there will also be an opportunity for mothers to get some baby pictures taken during the event 

"Yeah, even pregnant moms love to have that baby bump picture, so we've gotten a photographer that will take that picture for them, and we'll get that to them," Moore says. "So, we have a little bit of everything that you would normally have at a baby shower, we're hoping to make this an annual event." 

The event will run from 9am until noon tomorrow at The Wildflower in Troy, located at 296 Highway 7.

Doniphan County gathers to throw first baby shower for expecting and new mothers

DAVIESS COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 5p.m. Thursday in Daviess County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Lincoln MKX driven by Sylvia J. Berry, 78, Gallatin, was eastbound on U.S. 69 at 122nd Street one mile east of Winston.

The SUV traveled off the south side of the road, struck a street sign, struck the ground, went airborne, struck the ground again and overturned. Community Ambulance transported her to Cameron Regional Medical Center. She was later air-lifted to Truman Medical Center. She was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.

Missouri woman air-lifted to hospital after violent SUV crash

Kansas City Chief Hall of Famer Christian Okoye
will be in St. Joseph this weekend, appearing at a Legends of the Game event at
the St. Jo Frontier Casino Sunday.

will be in St. Joseph this weekend, appearing at a Legends of the Game event at
the St. Jo Frontier Casino Sunday.Okoye has written a book, highlighting his time
with the Chiefs and in the NFL. Okoye says the book, The Nigerian Nightmare –
My Journey Out of Africa to the Kansas City Chiefs and Beyond, fleshes out his
story from his home country of Nigeria to success in a sport he knew nothing
about.Okoye came to America intending to train for the
1984 Olympics. When his home country of Nigeria refused to include him on their
Olympic team after a divisive civil war, friends at Azusa Pacific University in
the Los Angeles area encouraged him to take up football. Okoye knew soccer as
well as track and field. He had never even seen a game of football. Still, with
his Olympic dreams dashed, Okoye picked up football at Azusa.Okoye had success. The Chiefs drafted him in the
second round. He played for six seasons, leading the NFL in rushing in 1989.
Okoye says he hopes young people will learn from his story.“Sometimes you get thrown into a situation where
you are not very familiar and you know that that situation can be good for you
and those people around you; you never give up,” Okoye tells KFEQ/St. Joseph
Post. “You don’t give up on it. You just work on it even though it’s not your
thing, but that’s an opportunity to make some good.”The book also delves into the darker side of
football, primarily the injuries and the lack of health insurance for those who
have retired from the NFL.“Football is one of the sports that you will get
an injury,” Okoye says. “If you play football and leave football, you come out
with some type of injury that will last for a long time. We should have medical
care, but it’s not there.”Okoye and other NFL retirees have been
petitioning the NFL to provide medical insurance upon retirement. Okoye says
the NFL is the outlier with the NBA and Major League Baseball both providing
medical insurance for its former players.Okoye played six seasons for the Chiefs. He led
the NFL in rushing in 1989 with 1,480 yards. The Chiefs named Okoye their MVP
that season. Twice Okoye was selected for the Pro Bowl. He retired with 4,897
yards.The Chiefs had some success during the years
Okoye play, but nothing like now. Okoye never envisioned this current era.“Every time the Chiefs have won the Super Bowl in
the last few years – three Super Bowls now – I know that Lamar is up in Heaven,
smiling and just being content with what his son, Clark, is doing.”Okoye counts knowing the late Chiefs owner Lamar
Hunt as one of the fondest memories of his playing days.Okoye says he looks forward to appearing at the
St. Jo Frontier Casino Sunday.“Well, I love seeing Kansas City Chiefs fans,”
Okoye says, inviting fans to come to the St. Jo Frontier Casino Sunday afternoon to hear stories, take a photo, and get an autograph.Okoye will appear along with standout Chiefs
