The Missouri Department of Conservation is seeking public comment from hunters across the region as they make moves to balance regulations for out of state hunting.

During a meeting May 29th, MDC lowered the bag limit for non-Missouri residents from two to one antlered buck a year.

The commission also giving initial approval to a new Nonresident Public Land Deer Hunting permit, with a cost of $16, beginning with the 2027 season.

According to MDC, nonresident hunting in the Show-Me State has increased considerably in recent years, with Missouri hunters expressing concern over how their own hunts are being affected. In 2005, 20,000 non-residents hunted in Missouri. By 2025, that number has more than doubled, to 42,000, totaling nearly 9% of the state hunting population.

MDC Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle said in a release, “We’re thankful for the input from our resident hunters on this issue and certainly appreciate their concerns. The proposed changes to nonresident deer hunting are designed to address those concerns and help alleviate the increasing nonresident deer hunting pressure in our state.”
