Rosalee Ann (Shannon) Pigg, 90, of St. Joseph passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Rosalee &nbsp;was born March 29, 1933 near Grant City, MO. &nbsp;On September 9, 1951, she married Warren Pigg of Worth, MO. They were married at the Gentry Baptist Church in Gentry, MO. They were married for 67 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Basil and Zora Shannon; husband Warren; brother Jim Shannon; half-brother Ralph Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Nora Schindler.

Survivors include daughters and their spouses, LaDonna (Jim) Miljavac, Rebecca (Jim) Deatherage, Carolyn (Bruce) Schindler, Leisa Pigg; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister Minola Hise and brother-in-law Edward Pigg; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Frederick Blvd. Baptist Church family.

Ronald Wayne Taylor, 84, went to heaven on Friday, July 21, 2023, in Wathena KS. Ronald was born in Hiawatha, KS, to the late Herman L. Taylor and Helen L (Thomas) Taylor of White Cloud KS on August 27, 1938.&nbsp;

Ronnie (as many called him) graduated from White Cloud High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and other sports. Ron joined the Navy and was stationed at the US Navy base in Jacksonville, Florida. It was on a blind double date that Ron met and immediately fell in love with Eula Lee Bell. They were married on October 15, 1960, and they enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage until her death on June 24, 2019.&nbsp;

After leaving the Navy, Ron worked in sales enjoying several successful years with Kirby Vacuum Cleaners in both Florida and Missouri. In 1970, &nbsp;Ron moved his family back to Kansas to join the family business in farming. He and Lee enjoyed 38 years of farming outside of White Cloud, KS until they retired in 2008 and moved to St Joseph, MO. &nbsp;

The most significant impact that Ron and Lee left as a couple was their deep love and relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. They were committed to their church and served in many capacities, especially in the nursery, &nbsp;greeters, and prayer ministry. They loved worshiping and praying together with others and sharing their faith was their priority. Their final desire for their lives and their obituaries is to point others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include: daughter, Dawn (Michael) Streit, Topeka, KS, daughter, Lori (Dan) Shows, Johnston, IA, &nbsp;son, Cory (Mary) Taylor, Lee Summit, MO. &nbsp;Grandchildren: Emily (Brian) Hess, &nbsp;Benjamin (Megan) Brockhoff, Jay (Brenna) Stroup, Mitch (Justice) Stroup, Morgan (Cody) Walker. Great Grandchildren: Caden, Austyn, AnnaLeigh, Ethan, Barrett, and Grayson, as well as several nieces and nephews surviving.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers: Marvin Taylor and Daryl Taylor, and a sister, Gladys Albers, and grandson, Ryan Taylor.

The family would like to thank all of Dad's many caregivers and staff at Fruedenthals, Mosaic, Living Community, Wathena Rehabilitation Center, and Traditions Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness shown to both Dad and the family over the last 6 months when he needed lots of care and attention.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon July 30th, 2023 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel, St Joseph Missouri. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Monday, July 31st at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas at 11 am. All are welcome to attend both.

Joseph Todd Sollars, 57, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, July 24, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born to Joseph L. and Gayle (Grimm) Sollars on December 20, 1965.

Todd graduated from Central High School in 1984 and attended DeVry University. He was an over-the-road driver for Matthews Transportation for 26 years.

He enjoyed trap and skeet shooting, woodworking, gaming, photography, RC racing, riding motorcycles, drag racing and being with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gig and Bee Grimm and John and Viola Sollars.

He is survived by his parents; uncles and aunts, Michael and Frieda Grimm, Henry Sollars, Susie and Jerry Gentry, all of St. Joseph; numerous cousins; and his best bud, his furry friend Ozzie.

Thank you to Mosaic Hospice and especially Jason, and caregivers Christina and Theresa. Thank you to Kevin Matthews and Joe Redmond for their many kindnesses. Ronald Dean Beaman, 83, passed away Wednesday. July 19, 2023 at Lansing Care and Rehab, Leavenworth, Kansas. He is survived at the home by his wife Virginia Kay Beaman.

Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, Ron served in the Air Force.

Ron attended Washburn University and Clark School of Business in Topeka, Kansas and worked as an accountant for a number of years.

In 1978 Ron and Kay became Roller Skating Rink operators in Sedalia, Missouri and in 1986, in Leavenworth, The Wheel Thing Skate Center, from which they retired in 2018.

Ron enjoyed riding and racing motorcycles and in latter years they would meet friends in Colorado where the men would trail ride in the Rocky Mountains. Ron and Kay traveled over much of the States camping along the way.

Ron is survived by his widow, V. Kay of Leavenworth: a brother Leroy Beaman and Dwan Beaman, inlaws P.K. Witty and Susan E. Witty: nephew Jason P. Witty and Tina M. Witty, and nephew Jeremy J.

Witty and Julie L. Witty; niece Cammie Arrington and David Arring grandnephews Maxwell P. Witty, Jakob T. Witty, Andrew C. Witty grandniece Sage R. Witty, Olivia Arrington.

Doris M. Grayson 69 of Plattsburg Missouri died Monday July 24, 2023, at a Liberty Missouri hospital. Born on July 4, 1954, to Robert Donald and Joan (Smith) Grayson. Doris was a graduate of Plattsburg High School and worked at Uni-Tog a garment factory in Plattsburg and later was a cook for the Clinton County R-lll School District. Doris was a huge sports fan, attending football and baseball games that her son Tyrone played. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by parents, daughter Dawn Grayson; infant brother Robert E. Grayson; brother Anthony Grayson; sister Gloria Mays; niece Jacqueline Mays and nephew Jason Mays. &nbsp;

Survivors include her son Tyrone Grayson of Edgerton Missouri; two grandchildren Tyra Grayson and Rayden Freeman; Brother in law Robert Mays; niece Angela Grayson Harman; nephews Cedric Mays, Anthony and Andrew Grayson; and several great nephews. &nbsp;

Betty E. McQueen, RN, of Hiawatha, died peacefully surrounded by family Monday afternoon, July 24, 2023 at Vintage Park Assisting Living where she had been a resident for a year and a half. She previously had resided at Maple Grove Senior Apartments. She was 90.

Betty was born on the family farm, northeast of Hiawatha, April 22, 1933, one of four children born to Lorimer George “Shorty” and Myrtle Mize Mauslein. Betty has been a lifelong resident of Brown County where she grew up north of town and attended country school prior to graduating from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1951. Her calling in life was to be a nurse so she attended Sisters of Charity Nursing School in St. Joseph, Missouri from 1951 through the fall of 1953 to obtain her nursing degree.

She married her high school sweetheart James C. McQueen “Jim”, December 5, 1953 at Hiawatha. They lived all of their married life in Hiawatha where they raised three children: Pamela, Michael &amp; Brian. &nbsp;Betty started working as a registered nurse for Hiawatha Community Hospital shortly after it opened in the early 1950’s until retiring in approximately 2000. Nursing at the hospital during the day consisted of going whereever and doing whatever needed to be done: working the floor, surgery, ER, OB, even going on house calls with the doctors. After retiring, she worked through the Hiawatha clinic assisting people who couldn’t afford prescriptions working directly with the drug companies, probably doing this for 20 years. Then she enjoyed taking care of children in the community for a few years.

Church was an important part of Betty’s life. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Hiawatha and various ladies organizations of the Church; also served as Deaconess and Elder. In her ‘spare’ time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, baking being best known for her homemade dinner rolls. Anyone that knew Betty knew these things: &nbsp;she always had to have the last word, never said goodbye when talking on the phone, and always wanted to know the ‘latest’ that was going around town! You always knew where you stood with her….no gray area….and no filter!

Betty was preceded in death by her parents: “Shorty” July 7, 1987, Myrtle December 31, 1980, husband Jim exactly 4 years to the day July 24, 2019, daughter in law Kim McQueen August 10, 2019, two brothers Neal Mauslein November 23, 1985 and Donnie Mauslein &nbsp;November 7, 2018.

Survivors include her three children: Pamela Meis (Joe) of Elgin, Nebraska, Michael McQueen (Alice) of Lansing, Kansas, Brian McQueen of Hiawatha; her sister Karen Davenport (Darrell) of Canyon City, Colorado; grandchildren: Brandon and Desiree McQueen, Aaron and Allison McQueen, Alan and Jamie McQueen, Tiffany and Jason Boyce, Michele and John Schilling; great-grandchildren: Kevin Lock, Austin and Ashlynn Hasenohr, Ethan Schilling, &nbsp;Anna and Lillian Scates, Ryan, Charli, Teague and Nora McQueen.

A Celebration of Betty’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at the First Christian Church in Hiawatha. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Robert M. “Bob” Seute, LTC retired, United States Air Force, 82, Edmond, Oklahoma died Wednesday July 19, 2023 at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Kara Wilson officiating. &nbsp;Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Bob was born November 13, 1940 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Clarence and Arlene Pike Seute. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham, Kansas.

Bob served in the United States Air Force from 1963 until retiring in 1989 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He and Helen Benion were united in marriage on May 30, 1978 in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife Helen of the home in Edmond, Oklahoma; a son, Jeff Seute, Edmond, OK; a daughter, Susan Seute, Alexandria, VA.

David H. Green, 80, of St. Joseph, MO passed away &nbsp;Monday, July 24, 2023 at his home. He was born September 14, 1942 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Opal and Alvie Green. 

He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1960. He worked and retired from Seitz Packing Company. David answered to many names; son, brother, father, uncle, friend, and even to the name, "John Henry", which his aunt Elsie though he should be named. The name he cherished the most was "Daddy", when his daughter Stephanie was born. 

David was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald "Skeeter" Green and sister, Charlotte Greer.

Jack Lee Pierce 91, of DeKalb, MO, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at his home. He was born at home August 2, 1931 in Dekalb, MO, son of the late Naomi and Clarence "Jack" Pierce. 

He graduated from DeKalb High School and attended Missouri Western State College. He married Laveta Steele on November 8, 1952, and she survives of the home. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Jack was a life long farmer, and involved in many farming organizations. He was awarded the Platte County SWCD Soil Water Conservation District's Conservation Tobacco Farmer of the Year in 1988, &nbsp;Missouri Outstanding Tobacco Farmer award in 1991, Missouri State Fair Farm Family Award in 1973, and he was a member of the Missouri Farm Bureau for many years as well. 

He enjoyed his work on the DeKalb School Board, the 4H Club, and volunteering at the VA in Leavenworth in the Pharmacy on Friday's for 17 years. &nbsp;His passion was farming and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Jack was preceded in death by parents, son, Robert Craig Pierce, a granddaughter, Chevell Anna &nbsp;Pierce, a great grandson, Declan Lee Pierce, and brother, Bruce Edward Pierce.

God is Good. Shirl Eteeyan, 82, had that message not only written in the concrete of her home’s foundation, but more importantly, in the foundation of her life. 

As a middle child of three, born in 1941 and raised in Cameron, MO, she would become the mother of three of her own. 

As the world changed and opened up possibilities, Shirl became a true example of an independent woman. Single and already challenged with health issues, she put herself through both college and graduate school. Some might say she was stubborn. But when it’s truly understood what moved her–her love for Jesus, her family and always in the pursuit of good–one might choose the word formidable. And when ‘the most handsome man’ she had ever seen asked this middle-aged professor for tutoring, her life journey now included a partner, Bill. Their devotion to each other whether in good or bad times is a love story of peace, forgiveness and steadfastness. 

For those who called her mom, she was the best stain remover expert ever known, the best remember your special day with a card that always arrived on time and took genuine joy in your happiness. For those who called her grandma, craft projects, cheers from the sidelines and snacks to grab on the go told them that her hidden pain would never keep her from them. 

For those who called her friend and family, she was known to just be a phone call away, believed prayer changed things and would join them at Cracker Barrel any day. Shirl was ‘complicated’ to the doctors as she neared her home-going, but she believed, as she always said, tomorrow would be better. And as she now looks down from Heaven in that tomorrow, her message and legacy is one of child-like faith; Love one Another, for God has a plan for you and a better one than you could ever imagine.

Clayton Edward Loubey, 22, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023.

He was born November 22, 2000 in St. Joseph to Edward Jess Loubey, III and Lisa Marie (Fisher) Findley. Clayton grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from high school.

Clayton was a fence installer for All About Fencing.

He enjoyed many sports: baseball, where his Midwest Outlaws team won the USSSA Ring Championship, basketball, and shooting pool. He also was an excellent bowler, winning the Youth Classic at Belt Bowl and recently bowling his first 700 series. Motorcycles were another passion for him, whether it was riding them with family and friends or working on them with his brother. Clayton also loved hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting, where he was known as a world-class mushroom smasher, much to his family’s dismay. He also loved country music, dancing and a passion for singing.

Clayton had an infectious smile and a personality that lit up the room. He was extremely outgoing and never met a stranger with his caring and loving nature for babies and everyone.

Clayton loved life and had big dreams. His impact was significant and his memory will continue to inspire us to love and be kind. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rylie Findley and Dakota Lawrence; cousin, Jeremy Wampler; uncles, Ronnie Fisher and Gary Fisher; grandmothers, Sandy Findley and Betty Dowden; and great-grandparents, Herbert Ritchie, Helen and Edward Loubey, Billy Matlock and Marie Fisher.

He was born on April 27, 1928, in Laclede, Missouri to Paul W. and Ethel G. (Tharp) Jennings.

Charles graduated from Laclede High School, and farmed for a short while, later spending several years as a truck driver for different companies until his retirement as an independent owner operator.

He enjoyed many different hobbies, including gardening, yardwork, woodworking, and tinkering. Charles was especially fond of birds, goats, and horses, and was a farmer at heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Dorothy Irene and Lois Lavern; first wife, June Allen, and second wife, Mary Shipley.

She was born on October 5, 1931, in Gentry County, Missouri the daughter of Avery Vernon and Frona (Messner) Johnson.

On May 26, 1950, she married Ralph Pierce in Maryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2019.

Waunitha was a member of the Alanthus Grove Church of Christ and later attended the Church of Christ Church in Albany. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and P.E.O. Sisterhood. She enjoyed quilting, tending to her flower gardens, crossword puzzles and researching family history.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Vernon Johnson.

Jeffery S. Elder 66, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at his home. He was born June 10, 1957 in St. Joseph, son of Bobbie and Robert Elder. 

He graduated from Fayetteville Tech School in GA. &nbsp;He married Jannett "Jan" McDowell on October 1, 1979 in St. Joseph. He served in the US Army. Jeff spent many years as a Manager in the retail Grocery Business. He loved fishing and spending time tinkering and crafting used materials into artwork. 

Jeffery was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Amanda Elder, and sisters, Darla Bailey and Vonda Elder. 

Survivors include wife, Jan Elder of the home, daughter, Tyan Elder, grandchildren, Ethan Elder and Shelby Lee, great-grandson, Shannon Ladish, sister, Regina Elder, and brother, Shawn Elder, all of St. Joseph.

Elaine Ruth Miller, 97, Savannah, Missouri, died Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Vintage Gardens in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Born in Avenue City, Missouri, on October 24, 1925 to Earl M. and Bessie L. (Moutray) Wise. She was a lifelong resident of the Savannah area and a graduate of Savannah High School.

Mrs. Miller was a secretary at Dr. Nichols Sanitorium, Savannah, MO, and at the Social Security Office and was Business Manager of St. Joseph Cablevision until retirement in 1995.

She was a former member of the Long Branch Christian Church and Sunday School teacher there. She later became a member of Central Christian Church.

She was a member of the Church Opals, American Legion Auxiliary Dick Munkres Post, News-Press Twenty-Five Year Club, Andrew County Museum and Historical Society, RSVP Volunteer, Senior Center Volunteer, former member Pony Express ABWA and an Andrew County 4-H Leader.

On June 20, 1944, she married Dorman Reid Miller in Rockville, Maryland. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2001.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister Beverly Farr of Gower, Mo.

Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce E. Colman and husband, Jim of Country Club, MO, and Mary Jane Weaver and husband, Dave of Gallatin, TN; one son, Wayne R. Miller and wife, Charlene of Savannah, MO; sister, Imogene L. Kenny passed away on July 19, 2023 at a Savannah, Missouri healthcare facility.

Patricia was born on November 13,1934 in Fortescue, Missouri, to Orville V. and Ina J. (McGuire) Lippold. She graduated from Oregon High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. The previous summer, her brother Orville had volunteered her to accompany his friend, Charles Watson, who was singing for the Bluegrass Queen Contest in Maitland, MO. They were married in 1952, making homes in California and Missouri where she continued to make beautiful music over the next seventy years as a solo artist at the Kansas City Club, with Charles in the duo “Chuck and Patty”, in the dance band “The Satin Sounds”, in church and with her family wherever they might gather.

While she held other jobs and worked in education as a preschool teacher, in the beauty industry for Estée Lauder and in health care as a CNA and chiropractic assistant, her true passion was her family, and her love as a wife, a mother, and a grandmother knew no bounds. She was a fabulous cook and a gracious hostess, and for years, her home in Independence, Missouri was where family and friends celebrated many holidays together.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Col Orville V. Lippold, USMC, David R. Lippold and LtCol Roger H. Lippold, USMC; brother-in-law CAPT James R. Perdew, USN; sister-in-law June Lippold as well as nephews Dave Lippold and Steve Fisher. Robert Owen Wasson Sr., 73 of Savannah, passed away Tuesday, July 18th, 2020 at a local hospital in St. Joseph. He was born November 17th 1949 to Robert A. and Cora Ruth (Withrow) Wasson. He married Deeana Faye Bowland on October 17th, 1975 at the United Methodist Church in Savannah MO and she survives with a home. &nbsp;

Robert proudly served in the US Navy for four years during the Vietnam conflict. And two years in the reserves. He worked in drywall for over 30 years. He was an active member of the Amazonia VFW Post 12053, where he had many different jobs. &nbsp;&nbsp;

He was an active member of the Savannah United Methodist Church where he attended, most of his life.

Survivors include his wife; children, Robert (Lori) Wasson Jr. and Tom (Bonnie) Wasson all of Savannah; brother, Rev. William (Sharon) Wasson of St. Joseph; sister, Patricia (Jasper) Penland of Savannah; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

Loren Stanley Philliippe, 88, passed away from this life on Monday, July 17, 2023, at his home. Loren was born in Stanberry, MO on December 28, 1934 to Harley and Grace Phillippe.

Loren graduated from Stanberry High School in 1952, he married Marilyn Goforth on October 9, 1953 and then moved to St Joseph, they celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing on November 3, 2020. After moving to St Joseph he started working at Seitz Foods where he was employed for 47 years, retiring in 2000. He was also a veteran, joining the Naval Reserves in 1958.

In retirement he kept busy with his lifelong passion of hunting and fishing, the simple pleasure of mowing his lawn and gardening, along with helping to build house’s and projects that anyone needed a hand with, he was very generous with his time and loved helping others who could use his expertise in working on almost anything.

Survivors include: son, Randy Phillippe, Scottsdale, AZ ; daughter, Lisa Phillippe, Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Ryan &amp; Logan Phillippe, Zoe (Aaron), Mia &amp; Ava Masterpole; surviving siblings, Guy, Idalou, TX, James, Wolfforth, TX, George, Spanaway, WA, Tom (Karla), Helena, MO, Jerry, Portland, OR, Anna Beach, Oskaloosa, OK, Dolores (Scott) Darrach, Stanberry, MO, Julia Wood, Stanberry, MO, Charles (Linda),King City, MO, Steven, Spanaway, WA., sister in laws Mariam Goforth, Stanberry, MO, Dee Baker, DeSmet, SD, and Carol Weiderholdt, St Joseph, MO., along with several nieces and nephews.

Loren Phillippe 1934 - 2023

Riverside, Missouri - Craig Ryser, 38, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his home in Riverside, Missouri. Craig was born on August 27, 1984, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Bob and Pam (Petitt) Ryser. He was the proud father of two boys, Zakkary and Barrett.

Craig attended Wathena High School and graduated in 2003. He received a football scholarship to Benedictine College. Craig worked at White Cap as an inventory specialist, and he especially loved his security jobs, including Chiefs football games and Azura Amphitheater. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, and former member of the Wathena Volunteer Fire Department.

He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams included the Chiefs, Jayhawks, Huskers, Notre Dame, White Sox, and Penguins. He was also passionate about music. He loved going to as many concerts as possible and trying to learn to play the guitar. We will always think of him when we hear an AC/DC song.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charlie and Margaret Petitt, paternal grandparents, Bill and RoseMary Ryser, Uncles, Otto “Dick” Schultz, Charley Studer, Greg Bottorff, and cousin, Brad Liechti.

Survivors include his sons, Zakkary and Barrett Ryser, Father and Mother, Bob and Pam Ryser,

Sister, Blair Hartwig (Evan), Niece, Madison Hartwig and Nephew, Leo Hartwig, Uncle, Bill (Karen) Ryser, Aunts: Susie (John) Archer, Karen Bottorff, Deb Schultz, Judy Studer. Numerous cousins and friends.

Funeral mass Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wathena, Kansas. Visitation Monday, July 24, 2023, at the church, starting with rosary at 5:30 P.M. followed by visitation until 8 P.M. Friends may call after 12 noon Sunday at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena, Kansas.
