Fern Winkler, 92, of Smithville, MO passed away, March 27, 2025.
She was born on March 27, 1933 to James Albert and Dessie Arden (Honaker) Sestak near Russellville, MO. Fern grew up in Russellville and graduated from Russellville High School in 1950.
On April 7, 1951 she was united in marriage to Walter Winkler. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Russellville, MO and later Kansas City, MO. In 1964 they moved to Smithville where they made their home. Her husband, Walter, preceded her in death on September 28, 2005.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Smithville where she taught Sunday School, was in the choir for many years, was very involved with the Christmas Toy Drive and in many other capacities. Fern loved her flowers, the farm, watching her children and grandchildren’s activities, and hosting family gatherings.
Fern was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Joseph Sestak, Virgina Spencer, Bert Sestak, and two infant sisters.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Stephen) Prout, Randy (Lisa) Winkler, and Larry Winkler; grandchildren, Luke (Ginger), Matthew (Lauren), Kristin (Matt), Eric (Bree), Joshua (Gwen), Tifnie (Don), Jessica (Reed), Wade (Janie), Keith (Danielle), Janelle (William), John; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Clara (David) Inglish; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1st at the First Christian Church in Smithville, MO. Private Family Burial at Terrace Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
