Stephen Charles Otte, age 69, of Atchison, Kansas, passed on November 10, 2023, at the Atchison Medicalodge.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Stephen’s life will be on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the Atchison Library or St. Croix Hospice in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Steve was born July 6, 1954, in Atchison, KS, the son of Edwin John Otte and Helen (Lovegren) Otte. He attended Atchison public schools, graduated from Atchison High School and earned his Medical Office Assistant from NEK Technical College. He was employed as a CNA at the Atchison Hospital for over twenty years and at Thomas Residential in St. Joseph, MO, for five years; he was also a salesman and assistant manager at Rudolph’s in Atchison for thirteen years.&nbsp;

Steve was very active in the First Christian Church as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader for Troop #53 and Cub Scout Troop #54 and a lifetime masonic member at Active Lodge #158. &nbsp;He truly loved his dog, peekapoo.

Larry “Max” Pray, 79, of Savannah, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his loved ones.&nbsp;

Max was born on May 25, 1944, in St. Joseph to the late Violet Marcy (Glover) Bisig and Lloyd Charles Pray. He was raised by his mother Violet and step-father Dave Bisig. Max married the late Peggy Ann (Briner) Pray on June 17, 1967. They were married for 41 years and lived in Savannah, MO.&nbsp;

Max was co-owner of Max &amp; Bill’s Starters and Generators in Savannah and well known in the farming community. &nbsp;He was a hard worker, known for his dedication and strong work ethic. &nbsp;He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking and loved his Koi pond! &nbsp;Max had a stubborn nature, which served him well and his family all agreed that he was hard on the outside and a big softy on the inside. They will miss him deeply.

Max leaves behind his sons, Micheal Pray (Cindy), of Chesapeake, VA and Jeremy Pray (Melissa); granddaughters Madison Pray, of Chesapeake, VA and Riley Spicer (Allen) of Wilmington, NC; grandsons Sheldon Pray and Jordan Huggins (Melissa) of Raleigh, NC and one great-grandson Leo Spicer; sister, Lee (Pray) Wren (Mike) of Fairfield, PA and brother, Randy Bisig of Jefferson City, MO. He is also survived by his loving companion of 8 years, JoAnn.&nbsp;

He enjoyed  fishing, playing cards and horseshoes, coloring, going camping and spending time with his family. John C. Johnston, 83, of St. Joseph, passed away November 14, 2023. &nbsp;John was born December 19, 1939, in Kansas City, MO.

He was a 1958 graduate of Benton High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University. &nbsp;He graduated from Missouri Western State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration. &nbsp;Prior to retirement he worked as a CPA for Del Wood CPA in St. Joseph.

He served in the Missouri Air Guard for six years and was &nbsp;a former salon owner of The Ritz. &nbsp;He was a Life Master of Bridge, and loved playing bridge at the senior center, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

John married Judy Graham in Las Vegas, NV on February 11, 1978, and she survives. &nbsp;Also surviving are a daughter Katie Imlay (John); two step-sons Scott Holcomb, Shawn Holcomb (Elizabeth); eleven grandchildren; sister Sylvia Marquardt; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son John Sullivan Johnston; brother Patrick Johnston; and sister Sandra Grant.

The family would like to express their gratitude to John's Bridge friends at the Senior Center and to his longtime best friends Edson and Phyllis Marsh.

arol T. (Andres) Johnson, 72, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully Monday, November 13, 2023.

Carol was born on October 4, 1951, to Robert W. and Helen V. (Rogers) Andres. &nbsp;She attended St. Patrick's Grade School and Bishop LeBlond High School.

She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Carol married Donald Johnson on July 24, 1976. &nbsp;Carol worked at SST before retiring. &nbsp;She enjoyed reading, gardening, and her animals. &nbsp;She would take care of any and all animals that crossed her path.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eddie and Roger Andres; brother-in-law Angelo Scalisi; and nephew Michael Gilley.

Survivors include husband Don and two children, John (Kim) Hontz, Virginia Johnson (Brian), former daughter-in-law Jeanette Hontz; four grandchildren, Joshua Hontz, Victoria Johnson, Jenna Hontz, Braeden Brushwood; great-granddaughter Charlee-Ann Brushwood; siblings, Bobby (Lola) Andres, &nbsp;Helen Jo (Fred)Gilley, Sheila Scalisi; sister-in-law Manuela Andres; &nbsp;several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many childhood friends who became family to her.&nbsp;

Barbara "Marcella" Berry, 88, St. Joseph, Mo., went home to the Lord on Thursday, November the 9th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born on September 30th, 1935 to the late Raymond and Clara Stock.

Barbara married Donald Berry on June of 1952. Together they raised eight children and celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. She enjoyed cooking for her family, she was a seamstress for Nelly Don, worked at Whitaker Cable and was a Dept. Manager at Venture.

Barbara loved to make dolls, and dresses, music and antiques.

Preceded in death were her sister Luna Jean Stephens, and brothers Paul Stock, Robert "Bob" Stock, and Raymond Stock.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Steve Berry (Tammy), Mark Berry, and Eric (Kara) Berry. Her daughters, Barbara (Byron) Weed, Debbie Griffith, Julia Hollars, Mary "Charlene" Berry, and Christine Fitzpatrick, along with many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchild and great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 10:00 - 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM, followed by a prayer service at 11:30 AM also at our chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Michael E. Dattilo, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023.

He was born February 13, 1949, to Philip J. and Lena A. (Stone) Dattilo in St. Joseph, Missouri. Michael attended Christian Brothers High School and Central High School, and shortly thereafter joined the Navy on July 16, 1968.

Michael served during the Vietnam War aboard the Minesweeper USS Engage as a sonar technician. After his honorable discharge, Michael worked as a private contracted carpenter for many years, including for the Fort Leavenworth maintenance department.

He was an intensely private person, if he let you into his life, you knew that you were loved by him. He was an excellent friend and a very giving person who would do anything to help those that he cared for. He was an avid cat lover and will be dearly missed by his fur baby.

Michael never missed the opportunity to bring home leftovers from his sister Mary Ann’s cooking during the holidays. He was very close with Mary Ann and best friends with her husband, Gary. He had a close relationship with his numerous nieces and nephews.

In death, Michael gave the gift of sight as an organ donor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Ann Podrasky (Gary) and Robin Lau (Doug); nieces, Jessica Little (Bill Reckner), Lauren Bucksath (Cody), Sarah Podrasky and Kaylie Tyler (Dion); Melissa Wright, nephew, Chris Podrasky; four great nephews, four great nieces, his best friend, Mike Guthals; and cousins, Linda Hundley and Michael Dattilo; and sister, Nancy Wilson (Michael),.

Michael E. Dattilo 1949 - 2023

n November 8, 2023, Ken Bailey lost his battle with cancer at home with his sister, Melinda Brown, at his side. Born to Billy Mac Bailey and Wilma Jean Wray Bailey Leone. "Bailey," as most people knew him, grew up loving the same things his dad did: working on cars, racing cars, driving trucks, and chasing women.

Graduating from the school of hard knocks, Bailey went on to have a successful career driving trucks. Bailey got his first set of wheels at the young age of 3. He drove that car a million miles and wore the rubber off the wheels! That spawned a love of all things driveable. He was a long-time beer distributor for PBR and Schlitz and then to over the road for Sadler trucking and others. There wasn't anything Bailey couldn't fix, drive, or charm.

Bailey was married once to Debbie Dyche, Bailey never had any natural children that we know of, but that certainly didn't stop him. In Bailey's early days of living in KC, he met Nit, who grew into a lifelong friend. When Nit had Paula, she stole Bailey's heart. He unofficially adopted her, and she was forever his girl. Bailey's best friend, Jimmy Baumli, had JJ and he went everywhere with the two best friends. When Jimmy died, JJ was like a son to Bailey. JJ and his wife Jena were instrumental in helping Bailey during his last days.

Bailey's best trait was that he truly cared for the people in his life. He was born with his mother's heart and his family grew daily. If you knew Bailey, and he knew you needed him, he would be there for you with a helping hand, a solution, or an ornery smile and ice-cold beer. Many of these people were there for him when he needed them, and the family is forever grateful. Thank you all.

He was proceeded in death by his father Bill Bailey; mother, Wilma Leone; brother Jerry Bailey and sister Teresa Brown.

He leaves behind his daughter, Paula (Anthony) Story; JJ (Jena) Baumli; sisters, Martha Bailey; Melinda Brown; and Caren (JR) Hankins; his brothers, Gerry (Donna) Bailey; Terry (Sue) Carr; Larry (Janine) Leone; Joe (Janet) Leone; half-sisters, Deborah Bailey and Linda Molina; and too many nieces and nephews, and people he gathered along the way, to name.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 1-4 PM at Eagle's, 29997 US Hwy 71 in Maryville, Missouri. Bailey has taken Hillbilly Tech Racing to the big dirt track in the sky; running hot laps and taking checkered flags again. He will be truly missed.

He was born with his mother's heart and his family grew daily. If you knew Bailey, and he knew you needed him, he would be there for you with a helping hand, a solution, or an ornery smile and ice-cold beer. Many of these people were there for him when he needed them, and the family is forever grateful. Tyler married Brandy K. Trammell on June 25, 2004. She survives him.

Tyler enjoyed watching sports, especially football and cheering for his beloved Denver Broncos. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his children and grandson.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ryan Frost.

Betty Jean Rockhold was blessed with living 92 beautiful years on this earth before meeting her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 5, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a small-town girl from Lineville, Iowa. On August 12, 1931, her parents, Bryan and Bessie (Nickel) Shockey happily brought her to their country home in Lineville. She was welcomed by her siblings, Violet, Carl, Velora and Leona. Her brothers, Billy and Bobby were born and that completed the Shockey family. Leona passed away before Billy was born and Bobby was with them just shy of two years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; When Betty was nine years old, her appendix burst and they thought they lost her. It was evident at this early age; Betty was a fighter as she was ready to tackle any storm. She spent her childhood helping her mother and father on the farm collecting eggs from chickens and helping her mom make clothing for her siblings. They were a tight group of kids who went to a country school named White Oak which was located in their community. The siblings and their cousins had to walk a mile or more (as we were told) “uphill” in the snow and back to school every day. She grew into a lovely young woman attending Lineville high school and working at the Street Car Café for extra spending money. She graduated in 1949 and worked at the bank her senior year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 After a few years of heavy chasing, she gave in to Jerry Dean Rockhold, Sr and took his hand in marriage on January 1, 1951 in Lineville, Iowa. Betty and Jerry planted their roots in Lineville and loved the community. On June 7, 1952, they welcomed their eldest son, Jerry Dean Rockhold, Jr into the world. Soon after that their middle son, Gregory Wayne Rockhold was born on December 4, 1953. As if two boys weren’t enough excitement for them, they welcomed their youngest son, Douglas Lee Rockhold, on October 29, 1957.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The years passed and the boys grew into men. Throughout their childhood, Betty and Jerry lived in the river bottoms and then bought a farm north of town. In 1978, they built a home which happily welcomed their future generations.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty and Jerry were strong in their faith at the Lineville Assembly of God church. They served many positions within the church and prayed for many people along the way. They were viewed by friends and family as pillars of the community by representing family, faith, and friendship. They shared many close relationships such as those with the Judd family. Chester and Cecil Judd, along with their children were very close with them.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty worked as a home health aide, school aid, and continued to devote her life to her family and community. As she always stated, she was most happy when she had her grandchildren with her. Betty (and Jerry) took on the role in having a hand to raise the grandchildren. Her lessons to all will leave a legacy of love, laughter, and a spirit of faith which will live for a lifetime.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Betty will always be remembered as a true Superwoman. She was the person everyone called to inform of any issues and would take charge to pray for them to automatically take their fears away. Her passion for her children and grandchildren to be successful was inspiring and uplifting. It was nothing for the phone to ring during a family dinner. Betty would answer it and the cord extended past all of us over the rolls, green beans and mashed potatoes. She prepared many wonderful meals for her family, and many laughs were shared at the dinner table. She was always taking care of someone and expected nothing in return. The grandchildren remember her beating them at triominoes and her dedication to watching Wheel of Fortune.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, Jerry, her son, Douglas, and grandson, Caleb.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty is survived by her sons, Jerry Dean Jr (Lineville, IA) and Greg (Smithville, MO), Ex-wife (Carolyn). Grandchildren include: Lacey Rockhold (Brandon Douglas), April Rockhold (Johnson), Jeremy Johnson, Alexis Rockhold, and Chad Barker (Sherri).&nbsp; Great-grandchildren include: Malika Douglas, Boston Douglas, Charleigh Douglas, Zoey Johnson, Kane Barker (Hayley), Cayley Barker, Emily Sample, and Austin Nix. Great-great grandchildren include: Fayola Renee Jean White, Kyler and Mallory Barker. She is also survived by many lovely nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

Marva Kay Stuart, 86, of Smithville, MO passed away, November 8, 2023.

She was born on March 20, 1937, to Amos Melvin and Goldie Ethel (Chapman) Wolf in Guilford, MO where she grew up and graduated from South Nodaway High School.

On September 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Truman Stuart. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph, MO, Kansas City, MO and in 1973 they moved to Smithville where they made their home. Her husband, Jim, passed away on May 27, 2010.

Marva loved playing softball, bowling, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending Opry Shows. She always stayed busy working on her house or outside in her yard and garden. Most of all she loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with her family.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; her parents Amos and Goldie Wolf; and five brothers and sisters Violet Gorsuch, Junior Wolf, Wilmer Wolf, Mabel Throckmorton, and Hilda Carney.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Cheryl) Stuart, Shari (John) Godfrey and Jeff (Jody) Stuart; grandchildren, Tricia (Wade) Hecker, Amanda Godfrey, Johnny (Lindsey) Godfrey, Connor Stuart and Chloe Stuart; six great-grandchildren, Julian, Karson, Addison, Lucien, Lincoln, and Laynee; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was born on June 26, 1957, to Chester Willard and Helen Doris (Lash) Shipley in Liberty, MO. Debbie grew up in Smithville and attended Smithville High School.&nbsp;

Debbie was a hard worker, had a huge heart, was willing to help whenever she could and wasn’t afraid to tell you how it was. She was a wonderful mother to her son Mickey and the best GaGa to her grandson Marcus.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Helen Shipley and her brother Eugene Shipley.&nbsp;

Richard was an only child but shared an extraordinary bond with his first cousins, including Gary, Robert, Jamie Rosenthal, Don Kaufman, Elaine Kaufman Kranitz, and Harriet Rosenthal Gross. He was particularly close to his special aunt and uncle, Molly and Barney Burnett, who treated him as their own son. For most of his adult life, he also enjoyed a special “older brother” in Herb Gross, Richard’s friend and neighbor.

A proud graduate of St Joseph Central High in 1950, Richard was an exceptional athlete, serving as the starting shortstop for the Central High school baseball team during his senior year. He continued his academic journey at the University of Missouri, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1954. At the university, he held the esteemed position of President in his college fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau.

After marrying his childhood sweetheart, Sarilee Herman, Richard embarked on a new chapter of life, moving to Texas in 1954, where he served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force at Kelly AFB in San Antonio. Following his military service, he joined the family business, Joe Optican Jewelry Company, in 1957. Starting as Secretary, he became President. His downtown store at 7th and Felix became a landmark in the city until his retirement in 1991. Richard also established a second store as a cornerstone tenant in the newly constructed East Hills Mall in St Joseph in 1965.

Richard was a prominent figure in the community, dedicating his time and efforts to various organizations. He served as the former President of Temple Adath Joseph and Temple Adath Joseph Brotherhood. Additionally, he held board positions at St Joseph Hospital (later Heartland Hospital), the Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, United Jewish Appeal, Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art Museum, the St. Joseph Symphony, the St. Joseph School District Foundation, and North American Savings Association.

His passion for sports stemmed from his early days as a bat boy for the Western Association St Joseph Cardinals. He remained a devoted fan of the St Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Royals, and Duke basketball. One of his other passions was Sunday golf, relishing the time spent with whatever foursome he could muster. He took pride in his 24 handicap, enjoying the sport and camaraderie it offered. He also enjoyed tennis, a sport he learned to play from his wife, Sarilee.&nbsp;

Alongside his passion for sports, he cherished annual family trips, especially family visits to the Elms in Excelsior Springs, Lake of the Ozarks, Colorado Springs, and their tradition of attending the summer Cardinals-Cubs weekend series. He and Sarilee also loved exploring Mexico with their good friends, Mary and John Thompson.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Sarilee, his parents, Joseph and Lillian Optican, and Sarilee’s parents, Marye and Louis Herman.

Richard is survived by his cherished family: daughters Julie Optican Mathes (husband Steve) of St Louis, Joan Optican Herman (partner Tommy Sight) of Prairie Village, KS, son Rob Optican (wife Luann) of Durham, NC; grandchildren Andy Mathes of Atlanta, Joe Mathes (wife Kaitlin) of St Louis, Kelsey Herman of Portland, OR, Brian Herman (wife Jessica) of Leawood, KS, Kaley Herman of Denver, Grant Optican of Denver, Grace Optican of Prairie Village, KS; great-grandchildren Catherine and Julia Mathes of St Louis, Mason and Charlie Herman of Leawood, KS; brother and sister-in-law Ed and Marsha Herman of Overland Park, KS; niece Cindy Sugar of Houston, TX; nephews, Gregg Herman of Westwood Hills, KS, and Jeff Herman of Overland Park, KS.

The family is deeply indebted to the exceptional caregivers who were a source of steadfast support and comfort during Richard's final years: Yirgalem Yemer, Solomon Abiel, Bereket "Beki" Nune, and Firealem "Faith" Demissie.

Richard's enduring legacy of love, unwavering dedication, and active community engagement will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have been touched by his presence. He will be profoundly missed, and his memory will be fondly cherished by all who were privileged to have called him a friend.

Instead of sending flowers, the family kindly asks that contributions be directed to one of the charitable organizations close to Richard's heart, such as the Sarilee Herman Optican Memorial Scholarship Fund within the St. Joseph School District Foundation, a cause he passionately supported during his lifetime.

Debbie Lee, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born on June 25, 1954, to Harold T. and Charlyne (Wells) Perry in Fairfax, Missouri.

Debbie worked as a medical transcriptionist for many years and was a member of the Heartland Troupe for over 15 years, raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Debbie’s family was her pride and joy. She loved getting the family together and creating interactive games for the family to enjoy together at gatherings and the holidays. Each summer, she hosted the “Backyard Olympics” with new games featured each year.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Harold and Evelyn Perry, and her mother and stepfather, Charlyne and Pete Anderson.

Survivors include her children, Nicole Poirier (Glenn), Dan Slawson, Ken Slawson (Jennifer Greub) and Bob Slawson, and her beloved grandchildren, Cooper, Chloe, Alexis, Isaiah, and Krystina.

Yulonda Haynes, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on August 14, 1934. Yulonda graduated from Benton High School in 1952, and later attended Vanderbilt University where she earned her master’s degree in psychology nursing.&nbsp;

On Valentine’s Day 1953, Yulonda was united in marriage to Hubert “Jack” B. Haynes. He preceded her in death.

Yulonda worked as a clinical nurse specialist, now known as a nurse practitioner, for many years. She worked at the VA Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she pursued her passion of helping veterans. Yulonda also worked as a traffic manager for Gray Manufacturing.&nbsp;

She was a longtime member and past president of Toastmasters International, member of the American Nurses Association, and proud alumni of Benton High School class of 1952, of which her classmates continued to meet for monthly luncheons.

Yulonda enjoyed travelling and spending time with her beloved family. Yulonda’s mission in life was to bring others to the Lord and encourage them to be saved. She dedicated her life to the Lord and her faith. She was a member of Grace Calvary Chapel, where she was very active in many church activities.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Hogan, husband, Hubert “Jack” B. Haynes, and granddaughter, Tiffaney Haynes.

Today we are gathered here to celebrate the life of Braxton Lee Catron, born to Makenzie Centeno and Dylan Catron. A beautiful baby boy whose sun rose January 5th of 2023 and set November 5th of 2023. Braxtons 10 months on earth were endlessly filled with showers of love and affection as well as dozens of kisses on his rosy chunky cheeks. Braxton will be preceded into the afterlife by his great grandparents David Fowler(2015), Jack Stewart(2012), and Betty Stewart(2019). Brax was a healthy baby boy who was full of life and taken away from us far too soon. 

Braxton loved to play with his big brother Liam no matter when or where, and God knew he would have been the best big brother to Evayden. Braxtons passing has left an empty hole the size of a thousand universes in our hearts and he will forever and always be missed. Brax departs this world leaving behind his parents Makenzie &amp; Dylan, Brothers Liam &amp; Evayden, grandparents Jackie &amp; Michael, great grandmother Barbara, Uncles Xavier, Michael and Shawn, Aunts Addisyn, Aftin, Jamarea, &amp; Maddison, his great cousin Ruby and many more hearts that were touched by our special boy.

Donna Brock was born May 12, 1930 to John and Norma (Morgan) Gillenwater at Noyes&nbsp;Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. Donna graduated from Forest City High School.

On October 2, 1949, she married Leonard Brock. They became parents of three children.&nbsp;She was a devoted wife and mother. She was active in her community as a member of the&nbsp;Adelphas, Homemakers, and Happy Homes clubs.&nbsp;

Her faith played an important part in her life and she had been a&nbsp;lifelong member of the Oregon United Methodist Church. In recent years she had attended the&nbsp;Nazarene Church in Craig, Missouri.

Donna passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at her home in Blue Eye, Missouri under the care of Haven Hospice. Donna was&nbsp;preceded in death by her husband and parents.&nbsp;

Donna was&nbsp;preceded in death by her husband and parents.&nbsp;Survivors include daughters Karen (Kirby) Younger and Debra (Ray) Hunziger, both of Blue Eye; son, Mike (Kerry) Brock of Oregon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Linda (Ralph) Bisig of Forbes, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Matt Younger of Weston, Missouri, Brad (Deavon) Younger of Oregon, Missouri, Alex (Ashley) Younger of Highlandville, Missouri, Shane (Tara) Brock of St. Joseph, Jodi (Rick) Estes of Kearney, Missouri, Sam (Jessica) Hunziger of South Mills, North Carolina, Molly (Troy) Daniels of Fair Play, Missouri, Jesse (Erica) Hunziger of Bellavista, Arkansas, and Dillon (Misty) Hunziger of Buffalo, Missouri; and 13 great grandchildren, Charleigh Younger, Ciaran, Liam, Dexter and Ainsley Brock, Kale, Keegan and Kyler Estes, Payton, Graisyn and Grady Hunziger, and Weston and Gage Hunziger.Services will be held on Saturday, Nov 11, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Chamberlain Funeral Home in Oregon. Agnes Marie Lohman, of Atchison, KS, who lived a long full life of 98 years, passed peacefully on November 7, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, November 13, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. A parish rosary will be Sunday, Nov. 12th at 4:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 5:30 at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorials may be left to St. Benedict Parish for Masses or St. Croix Hospice in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Agnes was born November 1, 1925, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Greub) Scholz. She graduated from Doniphan High School. She met the love of her life, August Lohman, at a dance in Atchison, KS, and they were united in marriage on February 13, 1945, at St. Benedict Church. They shared over sixty-nine years together until his passing on October 13, 2014.

She was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church, where she attended mass and participated in the church Altar Society. Her faith was very important to her; she was the family Prayer Warrior and prayed daily for her family.

Agnes was very proud of her family and enjoyed being a farm wife. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed gardening and canning and was known for many of her meals, but especially home fried chicken for Sunday dinner with the family. Her grandchildren became her world; she loved playing with them, and she always had sugar cookies and brownies prepared for the grandkids to enjoy.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband; and her siblings, Maynard (Priscilla) Scholz, Leonard Scholz, Henry (Dorothy) Scholz, Rosaleen (George) Ramsey and Ethelreda (Leonard) Penning.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories are her children, Marlene (Dennis) Wagner, Larry (Trudy) Lohman, Gary (Patti) Lohman, Dan (Teresa) Lohman; thirteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Wanda Scholz.

Sharon A. McElfresh, of Atchison, Kansas, died November 3, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital at the age of 79.

Sharon was born on May 8, 1944, at her home in Troy, KS, the daughter of Howard Vance Ramsey and Etta Mae (Boatwright) Ramsey. She attended schools in Troy.

Sharon’s most important and favorite part of life was being a mother and grandmother. She loved being with her family and will always be remembered for her cooking and canning. After raising her children, she worked as a CNA at different nursing homes in Atchison. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, travelling to see the ocean and watching old westerns.

She will always be remembered by her children, Pamela Hudson (Jim) of Topeka, KS, Sherry McElfresh, of Lakeland, FL, Shelly Khan (Arif), of Lawrence, KS; her siblings, Jan Pukach of Topeka, KS, Gene Ramsey, of Topeka, KS; her seventeen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Teresa McElfresh and Stacy Scherer; and a brother, Danny Ramsey.

A service to celebrate her life will be Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Hansen as officiant.

Charlotte Lynn (Swartz) Rhodes passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2023. She was born December 28th, 1955 in Kansas City, KS, daughter to Charlene Swartz and the late Johnny Swartz. Charlotte moved to St. Joseph, MO in the 5th grade. Charlotte graduated from Benton High School in 1974 and married Denny Rhodes on July 26th, 1975. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician for over 30 years at K-Mart, Cub Foods and Heartland Hospital. She enjoyed going to the casino, loved helping others, couldn’t tell a person no, but nothing brought her more joy than being a mother, and a grandmother. Her family was the world to her, but now she is reunited with her best friend, her late husband Denny Rhodes. 

Charlotte is preceded in death by: her husband Denny, father Johnny Swartz; mother and father-in-law’s Joye &amp; Bob Rhodes, and sister-in-law Randi Rhodes. Survivors include sons Danny (Emily Peters) of Southington CT, son Dusty Rhodes of Kansas City, MO; mother Charlene Swartz of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren Lucas Rhodes, Benny &amp; Julia Swift; sisters Sue (Chuck Debenito), Terry Swartz; brother Dave Swartz; brother-in-law Fred Banker; sisters in law Jana Cook, Darla (Jim Hunt); and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, November 17, 2023 with memorials services and public livestream beginning at 7:00pm Friday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Rev. Rose B. (Johnson) White, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri; went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born on August 8, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, to the late James and Virna (Roberts) Johnson.

Rose married Richard A. "Dick" White, Sr. on June 30, 1962, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Together they raised their children and celebrated thirty-six years of marriage, until Dick preceded her in death on July 17, 1998.

Rose was a devoted wife and homemaker, and made many friends through her twenty-five years of bartending.

Rose was a Christian and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. &nbsp;She loved to play Bingo and cards and provided endless love and care to her children, grandchildren and pets.

In addition to her husband and parents, Rose was preceded in death by her step-son, Richard White, Jr.; two sons-in-law, Patrick Dunlap and Leon Rauch; four brothers, Ed, Roy, Ralph and Otis Johnson; three sisters, Dolly Johnson, Thelma Goin and Roxie Murphy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Gregory (Donald), Clarksdale, MO and Rose Dunlap, Easton, MO; two grandchildren, D.J. Gregory (Jessica), and Kelsey Dunlap; great-granddaughter, Hailey Ames (Clinton); step-grandchildren, Kenny Rauch, Penny Wheeler and Richard White III; beloved pets, Holly and Pepper, and numerous nieces and nephews.
