Tyrus R. “Tykie” Kurth, Jr., 79, formerly of Atchison, KS died Sat. July 13th, 2024, at the Medicalodge of Leavenworth, KS.

Visitation with the family will be held 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Cremation services will follow, and burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in the Doniphan Cemetery. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1963. Ty served in the United States Army for 3 ½ years, including in South Vietnam for 13 months, and as first cook for the 1st Inf. Division from 1965-1966. He worked as a truck driver for Peeler Oil Company, in Kansas City, MO. He later worked as a sergeant in charge of nighttime security at Iatan Power Plant, until bad health forced his retirement in 1995. 

Ty was a member of the American Legion Post # 6, and the VFW Post # 1175 both of Atchison, KS and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing for catfish and playing cards with family and friends.

He was married to Annette C. Peck on March 20, 2015. She survives at home in Leavenworth. KS. Additional survivors include a brother John Wolters, Atchison KS, a sister Janace Kurth, St. Joseph, MO, a granddaughter Gina Kurth, and great granddaughter Alannah Cairo and several nieces and nephews. His parents, daughter Tegan Hipsher, and brother Pat Wolters preceded him in death.

Arlena “Faye” Aborn, 83 of Savannah, MO went to be with the Lord and Savior on Tuesday July 16, 2024 at Abundant Acres (formerly Shady Lawn) in Savannah. She was born April 29, 1941 in Arispie, IA to George &amp; Arelene (Jones) Kimble. She married Virgil (Corky) Aborn in Flag Springs, MO on August 24,1958 and he preceded her in death in 2021. Jason Scott Johnson, 45, of St Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at Mosaic Life Care. He was born July 14, 1979 in St. Joseph, son of Glenda and Donald Johnson. 

He attended Lafayette High School. Jason enjoyed taking walks and living life to the fullest.

 Jason was preceded in death by his parents.

Heather Renae Mace 52, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away peacefully Monday July 15, 2024 at her home in St Joseph surrounded by loved ones. She was born April 16, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of Betty &amp; Robert "Pete" Mace. 

She attended Benton High School. She loved the simple things in life: humming birds, plants, fishing, reading, and being outside. She was crazy about her “grand-babies” and enjoyed her role as their “Maw”. 

Heather was preceded in death by her father, Robert "Pete" Earl Mace. 

She is survived by mother, Betty Mace (Jerry Logston), daughters, Audrey (Daniel) Hansen, Wathena, KS, and Ashley (Colton) Garton, St. Joseph, MO, her long-time companion, Scott Davidson of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Liam, Lyla, Lincoln, Leroy and Wyatt, siblings: Penny (Bryon) Grable, Jennifer (Dave) Trammell, Pavla Mace, Darren Mace, Rodney Mace, Robert (Regina) Mace, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brandy spent 30 years residing in California before embarking on a journey across the United States, eventually establishing her home in St. Joseph, Missouri, alongside her beloved son, Cory.

She was known for her profound affection for her pets, including her cherished cats, Simon and Peaches, and her devoted dog, Snowball. She had a passion for watching movies and was particularly fond of true crime television series.

A talented cook, Brandy took great pleasure in preparing meals for her family and friends. Her intelligence and generosity were hallmarks of her character, and she was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. Brandy’s unwavering commitment to doing her best for others will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Eva Tschaun.

Shelby Lee Ragsdale, 32, Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024.

He was born on April 20, 1992, to Tracy D. and Victoria L. (Larue) Ragsdale in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Survivors include his parents; his children, William Terry Lee Ragsdale, Marlee Faye Ragsdale, and Brentlee Lasher; his adopted son, Jayce Connor Bancroft; and his brother, Brandon Ragsdale.

Harold Bowling, of Plattsburg, MO passed away, July 15, 2024.

He was born on September 12, 1943 to Leonard Leon and Mabel Clymena (Wilson) Bowling in Galena, MO. Harold grew up in Galena and graduated from Galena High School.

Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Burk on December 29, 1961. They lived in Smithville where they raised their children. On July 28, 1992 he was united in marriage to Viola (Zewalk) Cannon. After their marriage they lived in Plattsburg where they made their home.

Harold worked for General Motors for 30 years. He built custom cabinets, loved to fish, cut wood, drive his tractors, going to get ice cream and Burger King.

Harold was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Plattsburg where he was the representative for the church at the community food pantry. Harold also helped with the community dinners hosted by the Broadway United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer for Home Delivery Meals, and he and Vi made sleeping mats for the homeless.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny Bowling, and his daughter Denise Banks.

Harold is survived by his wife, Vi, of the home; daughter, Taresia (Scott) Foster; step-daughters, Stephanie Cannon and Valisa (Manuel) Jackson; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Foster, Kelley Foster (Jenna Owens), Glenn Devin Banks (Morgan), Brittany Ellis, Brandi Ellis, Aaliyah (Jose) Vargas, Joseph Peery, and Chico Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Jackson, Chase, Cruz, Ryder, and Axel; sister, Alice June Pulliam; other relatives and many friends.

Harold Bowling 1943 - 2024

David, L Roberts, 77, St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024. He was born November 21, 1946 in Saint Joseph to Russell and Mabel (Lidgett) Roberts. 

After graduating from Benton high school in 1965, he served his country as a 3rd Marine Division corpsman in the Viet Nam war (1965-1968) He had received extensive training at the US Naval medical school in San Diego, California. He received 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star and the combat “V” for valor. He had been wounded twice. Using a ballpoint pen and cigarette lighter, wounded himself the 2nd time, David saved the life of a fallen Marine by performing an emergency tracheotomy on him. 

After returning from the war he lived in California and Oregon. There he worked as a respiratory therapist. He retired in 2005 and moved back to St. Joseph in 2007. He loved to camp, fish and do a little photography. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister. He has 3 children who reside in California; Shon Tate, Joani Tate and Kelly Tate-Aguirre. With numerous grandchildren. 

Also surviving is James Roberts, Gerry Roberts and Susan Dudley.

Graveside memorial services and United States Navy honors will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Charles Francis Venneman, 87, passed away July 14, 2024 at home with family.

Charles was born March 10, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Anthony John and Helen Mabel Venneman.

Charles met his wife Lotte in Germany while he was an engineer in the Army post WWII. They married in Germany on February 22, 1958 and moved back to St. Joseph where they raised 5 children. He continued his engineering background in concrete construction until he retired.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Anthony John and Helen Mabel Venneman, wife Lotte Anne, son Michael Anthony, and siblings John Anthony, Rita Marie, Clara Jane and Gary Lee Chaney.

He is survived by sons Eddie with one child, Mark with two children, Charlie and wife Julie with 3 children and 8 grandchildren, daughter Diane and husband Kennith with two daughters and five grandchildren.

Stanberry, MO:  Lorraine Helm-Higgins, 83, of Stanberry, MO (formerly of Lenox, Iowa) passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at a St. Joseph, MO hospital.

     She was born November 24, 1940 in Adams County, Iowa the daughter of Lowell Rush and Margaret (Spring) Wilson.

     On October 8, 1961, she married Fred Helm in Lenox, Iowa.  They moved to Stanberry in 1988.  He preceded her in death on September 21, 2007.  Then on October 24, 2010, she married Joseph Higgins.  

     Lorraine worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Stanberry, MO.  Lorraine was also a member of P.E.O. and Order of Eastern Star.  She was very talented in crocheting, making homemade pies and especially making candy platters at Christmas.

     In addition to her first husband, Fred, she was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leland Wilson.

      Survivors include her husband, Joe, of the home; her children, Scott (Darla) Helm, Creston, IA, Doug (Vicky) Helm, Mt. She was born on June 14, 1955 to Ewell Jackson and Mary Lee (Ray) Settle in St. Joseph, MO. Penny grew up in Camden Point, MO and graduated from North Platte High School.

Penny lived all her life in Camden Point. She was artistic and enjoyed coloring, watching TV and most importantly spending time with her cat, Dusty, and her dog, Ginger.

She was a member of the Camden Point Christian Church.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James Lynn “Butch” Settle, and brother-law, Terry Edlin.

Kenneth V. Daly, 80, Gladstone, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Notorre in Liberty, Missouri.

He was born November 6, 1943 in St. Joseph to Thomas Vincent and Rose Marie (Conner) Daly. Kenneth grew up in St. Joseph, where he graduated from Christian Brothers High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church

Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Navy, then was a firefighter for the St. Joseph Fire Department for 30 years. He was not afraid of heights, which really served him well as a firefighter.

He married Frances Beehler, and from this union two children were born, Regina and Daniel. Kenneth and Frances later divorced.

Kenneth enjoyed big family gatherings for holidays, weddings and special occasions. He loved to collect and assemble model airplanes and cars throughout his whole life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Kathleen Marie Daly, Thomas P. Daly, and John Francis Daly; and brother-in-law, Garland D. Houston.

Survivors include his children, Regina Sadoris and Daniel Daly (Latisha); five grandchildren; siblings, Michael E. Daly (Patty), Marie L. Houston, Janet A. Daly, Dennis J. Daly (Jerri Ann), and Margaret R. Turner (Frank); cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Larry graduated from West Platte High School in 1958, Central Missouri State University in 1960, and was a valued employee of General Motors, Fairfax, for 37 years.

Larry married the love of his life, Gertrude Kisker, on August 18,1962 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farley, Missouri. He was an active lifetime member at St. John's, singing in the choir and serving in many roles supporting the church.

Larry leaves behind his wife, Gertrude, of 61 years and their three children: Bryan Woodring, Melinda (Gregg) Heinrich, and Karla (Mark) Fredericks. He was a fun-loving Grandpa to Maxx (Emily) Woodring, Lucas Heinrich, Lauren (fiancé JD Walter) Heinrich, and Aaron Fredericks.

Memorial services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farley, on July 17 at 10 a.m.

Hiawatha, KS &nbsp; &nbsp;Darlene Covert, 85, longtime Hiawatha resident, died peacefully surrounded by family at Anew Health Care Center in Hiawatha. &nbsp;She was born in Humboldt, Nebraska, April 6, 1939, one of eight children born to Roy and Stella Krensel Bauer. &nbsp;

Like her siblings, she attended schools in the surrounding area before moving to Hiawatha where she lived most of her life and raised her family. &nbsp;Darlene was not afraid of work, often times held down two jobs at once as she was a ‘single mom’ and would do whatever was needed to be done to support her family. &nbsp;

Her first job was at Monarch Egg Plant in Hiawatha prior to working for Wilde Tool Company 30+ years, along with being a cook for Nakomis Restaurant and Cottonwood. Later years she spent working at a cook for BCDS (Brown County Developmental Services) along with being a nurse aide/CNA for Oak Ridge Acres Nursing Home, also in Hiawatha.

Darlene was a dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. &nbsp;She was all about sports, KU Basketball and Cardinals Baseball (as if she had a choice)! &nbsp;

Survivors include two daughters: &nbsp;Jackie Bianchi (Tim) of Hiawatha, Sandy Walker of Mountain Home, Arkansas, a son Charlie Covert of Lawrence, her twin brother Darrell Bauer (Sara) of Hiawatha, Arlan Bauer (Debbie) of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter, along with numerous nieces and nephews

Lorraine was a loving soul that loved to cut up and tease her family without a filter. She enjoyed a warm cup of coffee while cross stitching, playing cards or visiting with her family. Lorraine also had an adventurous side of riding motorcycles and going on poker runs.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Donald Annon Andersen and Larry Gundy; two children, Kevin E. Grundy and Roxanne M. Martin; one brother, James Lester Harrison; and grandson, Nicholas Zimmerman.

Survivors include two children, David “Butch” Andersen (Cheryl) and Wanda Sue Cashatt; two step children, Lori Gandara and Patty Zimmerman; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Maysville, Missouri…….James “Pat” Flannery, age 68, passed away on July 13, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family.

Pat was born on March 17, 1956, to Jim and Carol Flannery. After her marriage to Bob Wills, Carol and Bob raised Pat together as part of a family that included six children. Pat is the second eldest among them. He married the love of his life, Stacy Allwood, on October 20, 1979. Together, they raised four incredible sons: Ryan, Daniel, Kyle, and Logan.

Known as “Clippy” by his friends, Pat began his career at Herzog before purchasing The Redbarn in Maysville, where he and Stacy worked side by side for 20 years, building a life filled with hard work and community. He had a passion for old country music and cherished time spent with friends and family. His grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy.

Until his last moments, Pat’s humor and wit shone brightly. Though he may have seemed tough on the outside, he possessed a very gentle and forgiving heart.

Pat was preceded in death by Stacy in 2019.

He is survived by his sons and their families: Ryan and Sharee, Daniel and Jessica, Kyle and Gabi, and Logan and Allison, along with eight grandchildren—Ayden, Beckett, Laken, Nora, Witten, Pruitt, Lucca, and a granddaughter due in October. Blayne Brian Baldwin, 4, of Wathena, Kansas passed away July 10, 2024, at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Blayne was born on January 5, 2020, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Reagen Coker and Travis Baldwin.

Give us now the assurance that though Blayne has passed from our sight, he has not passed from your care. Draw near to us in our sadness, bring blessing out of grief, and help us in our tears and pain to know you standing alongside us and to experience your love and healing; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Blayne shared his father's love of trucks, especially monster trucks. He enjoyed playing soccer, hot-wheels, and being outside. His goal was to be just like his older brother, Braeden. Blayne was so excited to begin his adventure and to start preschool. Blayne loved his daycare family and Grandma’s so much. Blayney adored all types of bread, watermelon, and strawberries! Robert Dean Niebuhr, 87, of Savannah, MO passed from this life to his eternal home on Friday July 12, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home in Savannah. He was born September 30, 1936 &nbsp;in Burlington, IA to Albert and Martha (Peterman) Niebuhr. He married Sherry Steeby-Miller in Perry, IA on December 6, 1975 and she survives of the home.

Robert owned and operated Niebuhr Heating and Cooling for 45 years until his retirement in 2015. He was proud of his business and being able to work with his boys Tim and Bret for many years. He attended college at Iowa State. Bob was an avid sports fan, he loved the Kansas City Chiefs, the Royals and was always true to his Iowa State Hawkeyes.

Survivors include his wife; step-sons, Timothy Miller and Bret Miller both of Savannah; step-daughter, Deborah (Robert) Thorburn of Fillmore, MO; grandchildren, Shane (Melissa) Thorburn, Delynn (Tim) Kuykendall, Angel (Chris) Perez, Lacey (Bryan) Grooms, Austin Miller, Derek (Melanie) Miller, Kristin Miller, Thomas Bart Miller, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbert (Delaine) Niebuhr of Fort Wayne, IN, Donald Niebuhr of Prescott, AZ, and Delbert (Denise) Niebuhr of Perry, IA; sisters, Marilyn Albright and Marlyce Hollis both of Iowa City, IA. with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. &nbsp;

He was born on June 5, 1960 to Leonard and Donna (Gillenwater) Brock in Fairfax, Missouri.

He married the love of his life, Kerry Jo Webster, on December 14, 1979.

Mike worked for over 30 years doing electrical maintenance and served as a supervisor for Exide.

Mike loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed taking his grandsons fishing. He enjoyed working on cars and growing vegetables in his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Kerry; his children, Shane (Tara) Brock and Jodi (Rick) Estes; grandchildren, Ciaran, Liam, Dexter, and Ainsley Brock, and Kale, Keegan and Kyler Estes; and sisters, Karen Younger and Deb Hunzinger.

James Richard Fowler, born in 1939 in Kansas City, MO, to Nadine and LD (Larry Davis) Fowler, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 12, 2024 surrounded by his family. He grew up in Prairie Village, KS, attended Shawnee Mission (North) High School, and later graduated college from Baker University. He had a successful career in banking, founded Royal Coach, and later retired with Bank Midwest.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Jim raised his three daughters in Whispering Hills, filling life with excitement at every turn. Jim continued to grow his loving family when he met his wife, Judy. They were married in 2001 and began their life together in St. Joseph, Missouri where they spent many cherished years.

Jim was service minded, had a playful spirit, and was a faithful attendee of Grace Calvary Chapel Church. He was everyone’s biggest supporter and those close to him will continue to feel his support from Heaven.

Jim is survived by his wife Judy Fowler, children Kim Nofsinger (Tom Koch), Missy Welch (Whit), Amy Reece (Jeff), Kyle Phillips (Tia), and Cody Phillips (Lindsay), and siblings Shari Blevins, Debbie Courser, and David Sullivan. Affectionately known as Papo, he leaves behind grandchildren Dylan, Megan, Morgan, Haley, Maddie, Mackie, Mitchell, Gracie, Claire, Lily, Violet, Ella, and numerous nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was his pursuit of love, laughter, and adventure with his wife Judy and their loving family and friends.
