Keith Culley, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024.&nbsp;

He was born July 16, 1945 in Maysville, Missouri to Leslie and Ada (House) Culley. He graduated from Maysville High School, then served his country in the U.S. Navy.

After the service, a pretty little girl named Marcella caught Keith’s eye while he was playing with his band, the Midnight Cowboys. Keith and Marcella Kay Palmer were married on June 27, 1971.&nbsp;

The couple settled down on a farm near Maysville, where they raised three daughters, Monica, Lisa and Melissa.

Keith was a top grain bin salesman for Modern Farm Systems (MFS), and traveled the country installing grain elevators. He later owned and operated Keith Culley Crane Rental.

After retirement, Keith became an avid collector of knives, guitars, guns, and classic cars. He also took up karaoke, showcasing his wonderful voice with family and friends.

Most of all, Keith was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He leaves a lasting legacy of love, a strong work ethic and music for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joyce Ann Custer.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 53 years, Marcella; daughters, Monica Coats (Steven), Lisa Benedict (Rickie Benedict Jr.), and Melissa Looker (Dar); grandchildren, Trevor, Mason, Ashley, Preston, Leaetta, Tyce, Teagan, and Taryn; brother, Wayne L. Culley (Patty); Marcella’s brothers and sisters; and several other extended family members and friends.

Keith Culley 1945 - 2024

Emmett A. Flora, a man of remarkable resilience and redemption, passed away on April 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of transformation, faith and perseverance.&nbsp;

Born on January 9, 1949, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Willie A. and Dorothy Cline Flora, Emmett grew up in Faucett, MO amongst challenging circumstances facing more than his fair share of hardships. He was extremely close to his grandparents Chuck and Maude Cline from Dearborn and lived with them during his high school years where he attended North Platte High School. His athleticism and determination were evident on the football field, foreshadowing the strength of character that would define his life.

At the tender age of 18, Emmett answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His service took him to the front lines of the Vietnam War, where he displayed remarkable courage and resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship. He served two tours of duty and rose to the rank of Sergeant. His time in the Marines left an indelible mark on him, shaping his character and instilling in him a sense of duty and honor that would guide him throughout his life.

Returning home from war, like many of his fellow soldiers, Emmett battled with alcoholism. Yet, in a testament to his unwavering spirit, he embarked on a journey of recovery and renewal. With determination and the support of loved ones, he emerged from the depth of addiction and commenced on a path of sobriety that would span over four decades.&nbsp;

Emmett also dedicated 40 years of his life to Wire Rope Corporation in St. Joseph, MO, before retiring in 2014. He excelled in his field, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and management alike. His integrity and work ethic served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

During that time, Emmett found love and companionship with Diana Lynn Davis, whom he married on February 21, 1986. Together, they shared 38 years of love, laughter, and unwavering support.

His transformation was nothing short of remarkable. He embraced a life of sobriety with fervor and dedication which included membership at the Wyatt Park Baptist Church for 31 years where he served as a deacon and on the facilities committee.&nbsp;

In his leisure time, he and Diana enjoyed traveling and found joy and camaraderie among fellow Harley-Davidson enthusiasts. He also enjoyed playing softball in his younger years.

Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes, demonstrating the power of resilience, faith, and the human capacity for change. Throughout his life, Emmett's faith remained a constant source of strength and guidance. His deep spiritual convictions provided him with solace and comfort during times of struggle and doubt, and his quiet devotion served as a beacon of light for those around him.

Emmett's legacy extends beyond his own triumphs to the cherished relationships he cultivated throughout his life. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Cindy Mae Flora, and a beloved grandfather to Brandy Tolson and Cheyenne Miller, as well as a doting great-grandfather to Ryker, Draxton, Hank and Rowen.

Emmett is preceded in death by his parents, Willie A. and Dorthy Cline Flora, his step-mother Maxine Flora, his brother Roger Flora, and his half-sister Rose Maulzoski.&nbsp;

In addition to his wife, daughter, and grandchildren, Emmett is survived by his brothers, Kenneth (Marcia) Flora of LaVista, NE, and Jimmy (Doreen) Flora of Council Bluffs, IA, as well as his half-siblings: Nina (Ed) Reedy of Conway, SC, Sherry (Danny) Jones of Halls, MO, Jackie of Council Bluffs, IA and Rick (Lynn Ann) Flora of Faucett, MO.

He is also survived by step-siblings: Jenny Lou Donalson of Atchison, KS, Rhodine Arnold, of Alaska, Bob (Rhonda) Everett of Stewartsville, MO, and Bill (Theresa) Smith of Faucett, MO, along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.

As we bid farewell to Emmett, let us remember him not for the hardships he endured, but for the strength, courage, and faith that defined his life. He truly lived what he believed and though he may be gone, his memory will live on.&nbsp;

May he rest in peace, knowing that his journey has left a permanent mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Cheryl L. Utterback, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024.

She was born on November 15, 1947, to Robert D. and Helen K. (Cashatt) Gastineau in Rock Port, Missouri.

Cheryl married Carey B. Utterback on July 23, 1965. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2021.

She worked as a waitress for many years, and then later on worked as a security guard for DFS.

Cheryl loved her dog, Elizabeth, and enjoyed taking her along with her. She enjoyed mushroom hunting and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Curtiss Utterback; and brothers, Rick and Brian Gastineau.

Survivors include daughter, Michelle Brant (Utterback); grandchildren, Kattie Tyes (Je’Neal) and Courtney Ross; great-grandchildren, Jayden and Nevaeh Sansone, Devin and Whitney, Amanda, Curtis, Jeremy, Emily and Carli Utterback; sister, Kim Rose (Bob); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Verne A. Ratcliff, 82, of Onaga, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Via Christi Village Nursing Center in Manhattan. &nbsp;

He was born February 17, 1942 at Onaga, the son of Ralph and Florence Perrussel Ratcliff. &nbsp;He graduated from Onaga High School.

Verne worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Union Pacific Railroad for thirty years. &nbsp;After retiring from the railroad, he drove a school bus for the Onaga schools for twenty years and was a Foster Grandparent with NEKCAP for ten years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC in Onaga, a Life Member of the Onaga Jaycees, was a volunteer firefighter for the Onaga Fire Department for fifty years.

Verne married Patricia Ann Lauby on March 2, 1974 in Onaga. &nbsp;She preceded him in death on May 7, 2013.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gene Ratcliff and Duane Ratcliff.

Survivors include three daughters, Machelle Kleinjan (Richard), Kearney, NE, and Crystal Kelly (Steve) and Staci Ratcliff (Susie), all of Neosho, MO, a son, Bill Kelly (Tonya), Wamego, one brother, Leon Ratcliff (Lois), Onaga, six grandchildren, Tyson and Samantha Kleinjan, Derreck Kelly (Jayna), Sarah Kelly, Lane Boe and Maegen “Pumpkin” Lightner, and six great grandchildren, Raine Kleinjan, Skyler, Lliam and Arthur, and Claire and Beck Kelly.

Anna Lee Knouft, 94, of Holton, passed away Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at Vintage Park of Holton. She was born January 23rd, 1930 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Emily and Manuel Fritts. She had been married to Harold Knouft, for 73 years when he passed away in May of 2023.&nbsp;

Anna Lee began her career as a telephone operator in 1957 at the local United Telephone Company. “When she began working at the telephone office dial service had not yet come to Holton. All calls, toll and local, had to be rung by an operator. &nbsp;In 1959, when the Holton Exchange was converted to dial operation, responsibility for handling toll calls still remained with the operator. With the conversion to direct long-distance dialing in December of 1979, the end of the line became apparent for the local operators and she was the last operator to sign off.” &nbsp;Holton Recorder 1979 &nbsp;

She went on to work the switchboard at the Menninger Foundation until she found a position closer to home at Ron’s IGA, from where she finally retired.&nbsp;

Anna Lee was an incredible person with a passion for both gardening and caring for animals. Her dedication to her yards and landscaping on both Idaho and Oak Ridge Drive showed off her commitment to beauty and creation, while the love of her dogs (Shorty, Heidi, and Emmy) demonstrated her nurturing and compassionate nature. She found so much joy in her hobbies and the memories she created with her furry companions. She truly left a legacy of hard work, love and devotion.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mildred Fritts, who died in infancy, and Barbara Cook.

Anna Lee Fritts married Harold Eugene Knouft in 1950, and they had three children together. Survivors include her children, Carolyn Bartlett (husband Scott) of Holton, Terry Taul (husband Bobby) of Holton, and Charles Knouft of Jasper, TX, six grandchildren, Heather DeBusk (husband Troy), Abbey Althof (husband Wyatt), Summer Wedermyer (husband Nate), John D’Orvilliers (wife Taylor), Tanner Taul (wife Kimberli) and Nathan Knouft, seven great grandchildren, and a sister, Betty Lou Smith, of Holton.&nbsp;

Jim was born May 31, 1947 to Gerald Joseph and Janice Margaret (Cooper) Maynes in Lincoln, NE. He grew up in Omaha, NE and graduated high school from Mt. Michael Benedictine Abby in Elk Horn, NE in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Creighton University.&nbsp;

On August 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to Vicki K. Stranathan in Council Bluffs, IA. After marriage they lived in Omaha before moving to Trimble, MO in 1976 where they made their home.&nbsp;

Jim was a railroad man for 37 years, starting his career with Chicago Northwestern and retiring from Union Pacific in 2011. He was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Division 491. He was an avid KC Royals fan, enjoyed gardening and bicycling, but most enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters who brought him so much joy.&nbsp;

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Gerry and Janice Maynes; sister Mary Maynes; brother Tim Maynes and granddaughter Éowyn Maynes; brother-in-law Ted Randolph.

Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vicki Maynes; son K.C. Maynes and wife Amanda; granddaughters Rhiannon, Delainy and Avery; brother Joe Maynes and wife Sue; sisters Kathy Randolph and Margaret Craig and husband Dick; sister-in-law Karen Cowan; brother-in-law Daniel Stranathan; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

Tommy Ray Pendergrast, 76, of Weston, MO passed away, April 16, 2024.

He was born on June 22, 1947, to Lawrence Allen and Wilma Lorene (Callaway) Pendergrast in Smithville, MO. Tommy grew up and attended school in Lawson and Liberty and he graduated from Liberty High School in 1965. He served his country in the United States Army as a SPC 4 during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Tommy returned to Liberty and in 1977 he moved to Weston where he made his home.&nbsp;

While in Weston, Tommy worked as a city letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, which he retired from in 1995. He was a member and past Post Commander of the VFW Post 324 in Weston. He was also a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, and had been a friend of Bill W. and Doctor Bob since January 1985.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Pendergrast; his brother-in-law, Jack Looney and his nephew, Johnny Allen Pendergrast.

He is survived by his special and life-long friend, Darlene Johnston; his sisters, W. Kay Looney and Wanda Jean Hollaway and husband Tom; his nephews, Thomas Pendergrast and Scot Pendergrast; his dog, Lucy; other relatives and many friends.&nbsp;

He was born on January 3, 1932 to William F. and Marion (Grogan) Collins in Higginsville, MO. Russell grew up in Higginsville where he attended school. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.&nbsp;

On December 1, 1953 he was united in marriage to Zora McKinney. After their marriage they lived in Kansas City where they made their home.

Russell was a member of the Edgerton Christian Church. He was also a member of the VFW.

He was a Fire Apparatus Operator for the Kansas City Fire Department for 34 years.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Collins; and sister, Beverly Cornelison.

He is survived by his wife, Zora, of the home; children, Susan (Terry) Burns, Mickey (Sherry) Collins; grandchildren, Michelle Collins, Halley Collins, Teagan (Jimmy) Slosson, and Kelsey Burns; great-granddaughter, Ava Belle; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Carl Robert Jones, 80, of Smithville, MO passed away April 15, 2024.

Carl was born July 22, 1943, to Maurice and Wilma (Baker) Jones in Claycomo, Missouri. Carl grew up in Smithville, Missouri and attended Smithville schools, graduating in 1961. He started working at Corn Products/National Starch at the age of 18 and retired after 49 years as a machinist. Carl was a soldier in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. Carl was a passionate member of the Steelworkers Union (USW) and devoted many years working to improve the lives of his fellow members.&nbsp;

On March 27, 1986, he was united in marriage to Betty Annette Foster. They made their home in Smithville, where they raised their children and were very involved in the community. Betty passed away December 5, 2015.&nbsp;

Carl was well known around all of Clay County as an ornery jokester. He always made sure everyone had a clean shirt and that all kids wore shoes while riding a bicycle. He valued hard work, helping others, and finding joy in the little things; including things like driving around the lake, to socializing at the grocery store, and even admiring the wildlife activity from near and afar.&nbsp;

Carl loved his family dearly. He was a devoted husband who wore many hats, including personal chef, chauffeur, and he was a Betty Jones task specialist. Every inquiry was met with nothing short of a “yes dear “. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her.&nbsp;

Carl had such a loving relationship with his kids. Samantha and Andrew were the light of his life and everyone knew how proud Carl was of them. His pride was rivaled when he earned the title of “Wawa”, after he became a grandfather. He had four little loves and eventually an entire community that referred to him by his earned name.&nbsp;

Friends meant so much to Carl. In fact, he has so many friends because he never knew a stranger. People often comment that they never saw him without a smile, but his true gift was that he always brought smiles to others.&nbsp;

Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; granddaughter, Macklyn; parents, Maurice and Wilma Jones; sisters, Charlotte and Carol; brothers, Gene, Ronnie, and Donnie and brother-in-law Eugene Shipley.&nbsp;

Carl is survived by his daughter, Samantha; son, Andrew (Hadleigh); three grandchildren Carly, Georgia and Henry; brother, Earl (Janet) Jones; sister-in-law Linda Jones; sister-in-law, Barbara Shipley, and brother-in-law, Bob (Cindy) Foster as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.&nbsp;

Visitation: 1:00-4:00 p.m. with Funeral Services at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21st at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born on August 5, 1975, in Smithville, MO. David attended grade school in Edgerton, MO and graduated from Platte County High School in 1993.

David attended the Dearborn Christian Church in his youth. He was currently a salesman for McCray Lumber and Millwork where made many close friends who were like brothers. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and was an avid Raiders fan. Most of all David was a kind, loving person who would do anything for anyone.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Dorothy Hensley, Samuel Hensley, Fred Gardner and Elvena Crump; and uncles Bobby Hensley and Donald Hensley.

She was born October 7, 1929, to Peter J. and Anna E. (Wrobliski) Klein in Helena, Nebraska. Lorraine grew up in Hamburg, IA and graduated from Hamburg High School.&nbsp;

&nbsp;On December 24 she was united in marriage to James Clark Lytle. After their marriage they lived in Hamburg, IA, Burlington, IA and made their home in Kansas City, MO. Jim passed away November 2, 1999.&nbsp;

Lorraine enjoyed jig saw puzzles, coloring, feeding the birds and squirrels and most of all being with family.

Brenda married Clarence Wilder and they made their home in Edgerton. She enjoyed planting flowers and tomato plants and going to her brother John’s farms. She loved hanging out with her mom and sister Karen at the café, thrift shopping with her sister Karen, family gatherings and most of all spending time with her nieces and nephews who she called her kids.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Wilder; her father Billy Harmer; grandparents Carrel and Martha Harmer and Bill and Eileen Teeple and special friend Dale Jones.

She was a strong little girl who fought for one month in the NICU getting to come home on her one-month milestone. Lydia was able to be a part of the KC Chiefs Super Bowl win, go to the aquarium, attend a KC Royals game win and see an eclipse. She also got to celebrate Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter with her family. In Lydia’s short life, she had a huge impact on all those around her and will forever be in our hearts.&nbsp;

Harriet Jean (Moore) Aldridge, age 86, of Atchison, KS, passed peacefully on April 18, 2024, at the Medicalodge of Atchison.

Her life will be celebrated and remembered with a funeral service on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Watkins as officiant. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens. A visitation with the family will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Atchison Humane Society or Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.

She was born on April 15, 1938, to Leonard Otto Moore and Emilie (Liepold) Moore in Atchison, KS. She attended Atchison High School and NEKA – Vocational Technical School.

She loved caring for others and worked as an in-home attendant for several years. She also worked as an advocate for Dove’s Women’s Shelter.

Harriet had a love for bowling, bingo, fishing, gardening, cooking and mostly for her family. She was a “mom” to more than her own children. She, along with Charles helped so many others. And somehow always had enough food for anyone who came through the door.

She was married to Robert Burgoon and Samuel Hale previously. However, on November 18, 1977, she married the love of her life Charles L. Aldridge, who helped her raise her six children. Mr. Aldridge was devoted to Harriet until his death on November 6, 2020.

She leaves behind her six children; three sons, Robert “Bob” Burgoon, Atchison, KS, Gene (Solange) Burgoon, Lansing, KS, Samuel “Sammy” (Crystal) Hale, Atchison, KS, three daughters, Kimberly “Kim” Burgoon, Atchison, KS, Vickie Hale, Atchison, KS, Jeanette (Dale) Hale-Oden, Kearney, MO, a sister, Mary Lou (Pat) Cummins, Cummings, KS, seventeen grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Emilie Moore, husband, Charles Aldridge, a stillborn son, and three brothers, Robert Moore, Leonard “Sonny” Moore, Donald “Don” Moore and a very special great grandson, Victur Arthur Torres.&nbsp;

Katie Lee Baker 87, of Savannah, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at her home in Savannah. She was born July 14, 1936 in St. Joseph, daughter of Ann (Griffin) and Emory Slaybaugh. On February 20, 1958, she married Lewis Dale Baker. She worked as a Med Tech, retiring after 30+ years of service. Katie loved horses and dogs. Her hobbies included painting, gardening, and going camping. She was an active member of the Savannah Congregation of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. 

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis Dale Baker in 1985, daughter, Jo Ann "Rose" Milbourn, and son, Paul Apadoca. Survivors include: children, Karma Kissick of St. Joseph, Sherry (Jim) Marshall of Savannah, Dianna (Nathan) Cox of Savannah, Ben Baker of Conway, AR, and Tina (Mike) Protzman of Savannah, granddaughters who she raised, Katiefaye (Patrick) Seelye and Kim (Daymon) Minor, and many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Ms. Baker has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. A Remembrance Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. May 1, 2024 at North Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with a gathering following at the Senior Center in Savannah. Phyllis June Hart 82, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at a local health care facility. She was born February 19, 1942 in St. Joseph, daughter of Virginia and Daniel Hart. She attended Benton High School. She worked at Bellas Hess and Noma Lites. Phyllis enjoyed crafting, painting, and playing bingo. She loved church and the Bible.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Daniel Hart, and sister, Darlene Dye. Survivors include: sister, Patricia Thompson of St. Joseph, nephews, Gary Dye, Terry Dye, and Josh Thompson, nieces, Debbie Rhodes, Dana Thompson, and Rebekah Thompson, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Carmen Marie Palma 90, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024. She was born July 15, 1933 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late, Jose &amp; Josefa (Garcia) Rivera. Carmen married Peter J. Palma on June 6, 1953 at Holy Rosary Church in St. Joseph, and they shared 70 years together. Carmen worked at Armour Meat Packers and Johnson Control, and supplied St. Joe with some of the best Wedding and Birthday cakes ever. Her favorite hobbies include being with family, horse races, and bingo, where she was the luckiest woman ever. Carmen was a member of St. Patrick Church Altar Society and Little United Nations, along with being a member at Saint Patrick Catholic Church.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, son, Peter Joseph Palma III, daughter, Elisha Palma, and siblings, Anthony, Lazaro, Paul, Aldolpho, John, Rosemary, Frank, Joseph, and Guadalupe. Survivors include: her husband Pete, who survives of the home, son, Rick (Lynn) Palma of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Brandi, Briana, Anthony, Bethany (Austin), Kayla, Cali (Justin), Jesse (Jolee), and Maddie, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, brothers, Lollie Rivera and Pat (Jackie) Rivera, and sister, Helen Thornton. She was born October 13, 1961 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Peggy Colboch and Robert Buller. She graduated from Benton High School class 1980, and worked at Easter Seals Midwest as a caretaker. She enjoyed flowers, collected Fenton glassware, and she was a Buffalo Bill fan.

 Laura was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Colboch, father, Robert J. Buller, an infant daughter, Jessica, and brother in law, Jim Flach Jr. &nbsp;Survivors include: her sister, Rhonda Flach of Savannah, MO, step father, David Colboch, nieces, Erinn (Jay) Gemmell, and Melissa Durrie, great-nieces, Addie and Miah, as well as numerous, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robin Gene DeSpain 62, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 at his home in St. Joseph. He was born November 26, 1961 in Hutchison, Kansas, son of the late Nelda &amp; Ronnie DeSpain. He graduated from  Lafayette High School, and worked at Friskies for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and canning vegatables, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, he was their true Hero. 

Robin was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: wife, Sally of the home, sons, Nathan Clay (Lindsay) DeSpain of Savannah, MO, and Kyle Gene DeSpain of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Braxton &amp; Audrina DeSpain, Jamie and Alexes, and his grand dog, Zailey, siblings:  Selena DeSpain, Bushnell, FL, Ronnie "Geno" (Shannon) DeSpain, Jr., of Kansas City, MO, Jackie Tullock, St. Joseph, MO, and Michael (Bobbie Jo) DeSpain of Old Hickery, TN. Dixie June McClellan, 91, Falls City, Nebraska, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024.

She was born September 16, 1932 in King City, Missouri to David and Cammie (Fry) Deaton.

Dixie married Charles Truman McClellan on October 5, 1952. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2002.

She owned and operated several restaurants, including The Tenderloin Restaurant in St. Joseph, and was a Kansas City Royals fan.

Dixie was a past member of First Christian Church and Woodson Chapel Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandchildren, Eric Church and Sarah Mozley; great-grandchild, Adryan Jones; and brother, Eldon Deaton.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Phillips (Carl) of Big Lake, MO, and Joyce Mozley (William) of Riverside, MO; stepdaughter, Sharon Hill (Phillip) of Diamond, MO; grandchildren, Christopher Phillips (Sherri), Big Lake, MO, Jessican Duncan (Jacob) of Lawson, MO, Danielle Gardner of Kansas City, MO, Candice Coit (Chris) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Megan Mozley of Kansas City, MO, and Ashley Lozano of Gregory, SD; great-grandchildren, Jake Duncan, Aaron Phillips, Audri Duncan, Houston Farris, Christian Farris, Kaelee Church, and Phoenix Argit; great-great-grandchild, Jake Duncan; brother, Keith Deaton of LaVista, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dixie June McClellan 1932 - 2024

Maysville, Missouri….Robert Eldon Edwards, age 84, passed away April 20, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Bob was born March 28, 1940, in Maysville, Missouri, the son of Eldon Casey and Laura Mae (Stanton) Edwards.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was one of 8 children, He attended his early schooling in a one room schoolhouse at Mt. Gilead, then middle school in Weatherby, and on to High School in Maysville, where he would graduate in 1958. At a very young age Bob would discover two enduring loves that would run throughout his entire life, Animals &amp; Farming. He had a deep compassion and love for all animals.&nbsp;&nbsp;Helping them and caring for them was a gift from God; real and meaningful for him. Bob also loved farming and was at his happiest on the seat of a tractor or being a caretaker of the land that he enjoyed from childhood.&nbsp;

He would tell you that his life totally changed on September 19th, 1971, when he married Reita (Crone).&nbsp;&nbsp;They would enjoy the next 52 years together in love. He was always ready with an easy smile or a helping hand when needed.

Bob worked at Maysville Veterinary Clinic, for Dr. Breckinridge in King City, and Northwest Diagnostic Laboratories in Cameron throughout his working career.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was always competitive and had a love for sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, which carried on to his grandchildren.

He was very secure in his faith and was an ordained Deacon of the Hopewell Baptist Church of which he was a member since childhood.&nbsp;&nbsp;In his role as father, he was proud of all three of his children. He was the first to praise or criticize, whether coming from a place of love and caring; he was always dedicated to his family.&nbsp;Bob enjoyed a long life experiencing many things from one room schoolhouse in his youth to traveling the world with his family to different places.&nbsp;

He would face the many challenges of having Alzheimer’s Disease, ones that his mother and several siblings before him faced as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Even to the very end, his eyes would still light up when Reita would come into the room.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, William &amp; John; sisters, Lois (Kenneth) Owen, Betty Huber, Marge (Bill) Buchanan, and Carolyn (Paul) Eggleston; and 3 nephews and 1 niece.

Survivors include his wife, Reita; sons, Russ (Mariel) Edwards, Smithville, Ryan Edwards, Maysville, and Tim (Cindy) Eggleston, Maysville; Grandchildren, Ryker, Rielle &amp; Roxton Edwards of Smithville; brother, Harvey (Janice) Edwards, Raytown, MO; brother-in-law, Clayton Huber, Port Orchard, WA; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Turner Family Funeral Home of Maysville with burial following at Winston Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.&nbsp;

She was articulate, loved to paint and was very crafty.&nbsp;Her most cherished love was for her granddaughter, Macie.
