Lois Chapman December 1, 1945-July 6, 2025

Lois Elaine Chapman, 78, passed away at her home in Lansing, KS on July 6, 2025.  She was born in Kansas City, MO on December 1, 1945, the daughter of Marvin and Lucy Fern Anderson.

Lois graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO in 1963.  She received her teaching degree from St. Mary’s College and taught 4th grade.  She also received her degree in Accounting, passed the CPA, and provided tax support for many years before her retirement. 

In October 1974, she married her husband of 42 years, Edward J. Chapman, Jr. “Chap” and went on to have 1 child, Lisa Elaine Chapman, July 1976.

Lois and Chap shared a love for historical homes, and in 1975 they purchased their dream home on South Broadway, in Leavenworth, KS. where they resided for 36 years.  She took great pride in the home.  They hosted many parties, family holiday gatherings, fundraising events, historical homes tours and an annual event of scaring trick-or-treaters on Halloween.  She also loved gardening.  You could find her in her yard day or night watering, tending to her plants and pulling those pesky weeds.  She enjoyed collecting antiques, tennis, swimming, volunteering for the Leavenworth County Historical Society, and being a housewife and mother to Chap and Lisa.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Joe) Walsh; stepdaughter, Rebecca (John) Sauter; stepson Edward J. Chapman III (Ann) and two step grandsons Edward J. Chapman IV and Jacob Chapman; sisters, Ruth Smoot, Carol Wiswell, Jeanette Joyce (Tom), Nancy Driller (Tim), Rebecca Smith (John) and Barbara Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Jr; parents; sisters, Dorothy Peterson, Mary Dell Floyd; brother Glen Anderson; and loving companions, Macho, Nellie and Mr. K. 

A visitation (10 am) and memorial service (11 am) will be held for Lois at Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, KS on Monday, July 14, 2025.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Leavenworth, KS.
