Nancy M. Lewis, 75, of St. Joseph passed away, November 18, 2023. &nbsp;Nancy was born November 29, 1947, in St. Louis to Raymond and Gail (Anderson) Hamann.

She was a graduate of Normandy High School in St. Louis &nbsp;and Southeast Missouri University. &nbsp;She was an elementary teacher and a middle school librarian working last for the Moniteau School District in California, MO and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church Downtown in St. Joseph, where she was involved in Women of ELCA, &nbsp;Phoebe Circle, and Altar Guild. &nbsp; While in California, MO, she and her husband were active in Finke Theatre and Nancy was very involved at Woodplace Library. &nbsp;Her hobbies were needlepoint, gardening, and genealogy.

She married Philip Lewis in Cool Valley, MO on July 5, 1969; and he survives. &nbsp;Also surviving are sons Charles Lewis and wife Nancy, Christopher Lewis and wife Patricia; two granddaughters Isabel and Eleanor; sister Carol Bunge and husband James; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to First Lutheran Church Downtown Youth Fund or to the American Cancer Society.

Services will be Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 1:00 pm &nbsp;at First Lutheran Church, 302 South 10th in St. Joseph. &nbsp;Interment will follow in Ashland Cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church.

Dallas, Texas…In loving memory of Jack Richard Bohannon, son of Beatrice Owen Bohannon and Bryon Marsh Bohannon, and younger brother to Byron Owen Bohannon.&nbsp; Born March 16, 1941, Jack Bohannon bid farewell to the world on October 30, 2023.&nbsp;

Jack taught&nbsp; history in Florida after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Florida. As Sales Director at Susan Crane from 1974 to 1993, Jack traveled the world but held a special place in his heart for his hometowns of Maysville and Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp;Social and gregarious, he made friends everywhere he went, from Berlin to Mexico City. A passionate historian, Jack’s extensive book collection reflected his love for the Civil War, Berlin, architecture, and American history. 

Jack called Florida, Houston, and finally Dallas, his homes.&nbsp;He is survived by nephews Kerry Bohannon and Michael Bohannon, nieces Nancy Hoesl and Kelly Habash, four grandnephews, and two grandnieces. Jack’s enduring companions were his books, The New York Times, and his cat Mary Margaret who remained by his side for nearly two decades. He leaves behind an appreciation of family and the friends who stayed by him, and a collection of over 1,000 matchbooks from practically every hotel and restaurant he visited over the decades.&nbsp;

Jack will be interred, along with Mary Margaret and (by lifelong request) his hairbrush, next to his mother and father in Maysville, Missouri. Karen Sue Harrison, 81, Savannah, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born on March 7, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Fred and Lovella (Kirtley) Smith. Karen Sue grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1960.

Karen Sue married Howard H. Harrison, Jr. on December 22, 1962. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2001.

She was an operator for Southwestern Bell for 13 years, then was a secretary for AT&amp;T for 17 years. She retired in May 1992.&nbsp;

Karen Sue was a longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church and worked in the daycare there for many years after retiring. She was currently a member of Renew Church.

Family meant everything to Karen Sue, and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Howard; her son, Dean Curtis Harrison;_her parents; and her brother, Fred Kirtley Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Cogdill (David W.); grandchildren, Ashley, Kristen, Hunter, Maverik, Kelly, Beth, Ashley, Jeff, Corey, Justin, and Haley; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous other extended family members.

She spoke of anticipation of family that awaited her in Heaven. She would see her father, William Meyers, again, and would finally get to meet her mother, Henrietta Beck Meyers, and her twin brothers, Maurice and Marvin. Her brave Aunt Ada, who stepped up when she needed a mother as a infant, her uncle Arthur and Nola, and his wife Lillian Beck. She’ll see her oldest and dear son Butch Humes, Her cousin Vernon Beck, and her best friends Jeanie Baker and Melba Carter. Hazel and Fred Humes, will greet her with love as they reminisce of time gone by. Kenny and Janice Humes, born family but became friends of a lifetime. But last but not least, there awaiting with complete admiration will be her beloved Billy D. Humes. Married on Dec 15, 1956, Love unbroken even by death for 57 years, still true and still cherished.&nbsp;Besides raising her family, And helping with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she was apart of many activities and Clubs, including Western Star Chapter 197, member of 40 plus years, were she held numerous illustrious positions in her service, including Worthy Matron. Even on her final days, she was proud to say she still knew her pledge. She loved playing cards with her friends, Jack, Bill, Christine and Joan. Farkle was the highlight of there Friday or Saturday night.She is survived by her son, Terry albert and Debbie, Her daughters in law, Dee Dee and Veronica Humes. Janet Lee (Hacker) Durrill, 80, peacefully transitioned from this world on November 12, 2023 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO.She was born on March 27, 1943 in Mt. Clemens, MI to Chauncey Russel, Sr., and Barbara Ann (Mummert) Hacker. After WWII, her father moved the family to Toledo, OH where he attended Toledo University, earning an Engineering degree. In 1950, they moved to Fremont, OH, and after he obtained a job with the federal government building missile silos, they moved to Oregon. This is where she spent the majority of her childhood. In November 1960, her father was transferred to Quanah, TX. Janet was a senior in high school, and wasn’t happy with these developments, wanting to graduate with her friends in Oregon, but she carried through with her tenacity and determined nature.After some time at Toledo University, Janet moved back home to start classes at Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, MO. Her family lived in Green Ridge, MO, and it was here that she met her husband, Terrence Durrill. He recalls seeing her for the first time standing in Rev. Likely’s kitchen with her mother, and later, bringing him a glass of iced tea. She had no idea that she'd already captured the attention of the tall, skinny college student. Janet and Terrence were married on August 30, 1963 by Rev. Likely in the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church. Janet was now a Navy wife and her husband was off to Norfolk, VA. Despite Terrence’s direction to stay in Missouri with her parents, she refused. With her poodle Angel, she took the train to Norfolk, rented an apartment, and created a home for her new husband.

When Terrence left the Navy and joined the Naval Reserves, the young couple moved to Drexel, MO for his first teaching job. It was here that their first two children, Kathy and Chris, were born. In 1968 Terrence got a teaching job in Platte City, MO, so Janet found their rental home and set up their household all while caring for an infant and a two-year-old. And when Janet’s dad passed away in 1970, she used her inheritance for the downpayment on a house. True to her determined nature, she gathered information on obtaining an FHA loan, and spearheaded finding the house in which they welcomed their third child Kerry, raised their family, and enjoyed retirement.Janet worked in accounting and retired from Husch Blackwell in Kansas City, MO to focus on her embroidery digitizing business. Her multitude of crafting talents was amazing. She was a painter, knitter, and crocheter, and she did embroidery (both machine and hand), macrame and quilling. But she was best known as an amazing seamstress, who made many play costumes, quilts, dresses, even wedding veils for her daughters. For a number of years during the Christmas season, she dressed as Mrs. Claus in an outfit of her creation, taking toys to the kids at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO and visiting seniors at residential care facilities in the area. She loved her years at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, making many friends and fans. A number of performers even have costume pieces she created for them.In 2006, Janet fought and won a battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and in 2021 she ensured her brother suffering from Alzheimer’s moved closer to family members that would care for him. She used her resources and endured criticism to do what was right. When she had her stroke a year later, her strength and determination were again in full view as she worked hard to learn to walk and speak. In the end, her body just wasn’t as strong as her nature. She passed due to congestive heart failure.Janet was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Dustin Hacker Payge. Janet Lee (Hacker) Durrill, 80, peacefully transitioned from this world on November 12, 2023 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO.She was born on March 27, 1943 in Mt. Clemens, MI to Chauncey Russel, Sr., and Barbara Ann (Mummert) Hacker. After WWII, her father moved the family to Toledo, OH where he attended Toledo University, earning an Engineering degree. In 1950, they moved to Fremont, OH, and after he obtained a job with the federal government building missile silos, they moved to Oregon. This is where she spent the majority of her childhood. In November 1960, her father was transferred to Quanah, TX. Janet was a senior in high school, and wasn’t happy with these developments, wanting to graduate with her friends in Oregon, but she carried through with her tenacity and determined nature.After some time at Toledo University, Janet moved back home to start classes at Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, MO. Her family lived in Green Ridge, MO, and it was here that she met her husband, Terrence Durrill. He recalls seeing her for the first time standing in Rev. Likely’s kitchen with her mother, and later, bringing him a glass of iced tea. She had no idea that she'd already captured the attention of the tall, skinny college student. Janet and Terrence were married on August 30, 1963 by Rev. Likely in the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church. Janet was now a Navy wife and her husband was off to Norfolk, VA. Sandra E. “Sandi” Burge, 67 years old, of Atchison, KS, died peacefully on November 16, 2023, at Providence Medical Center.

Sandi was born on February 28, 1956, in Southern California, the daughter of Ernest W. Burge and Delia (Hundley) Burge. She attended Cerritos High in California. Growing up, she basically was her daddy’s shadow; they loved going to the beach together and living it up on the west coast. She always loved getting dressed up and doing her make-up her entire life.

Sandi was the best mom to her kids and any other kid that walked through her door; there were no strangers amongst her and her family. She could always be found watching general hospital, listening to music and baking goodies for those she loved. Above all else, her granddaughters were her world; they loved spending time together doing girl stuff! Sandi loved fiercely – if she loved you, you definitely knew it!&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loyal pup, Sparky. Sparky pretty much only liked Sandi! She will always be remembered by her children, Sabrina Burge (Alex Valliant) and Meg Burge (fiancé, Dave Nelson); four granddaughters, Aubrey, Zaryah, Kensi, Kiersten; her fiancé, Jim Birkinsha; a brother, Richard Burge; a sister, Kathy Engeman; two nieces and four nephews.

Cremation care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated and remembered with a celebration of life visitation on December 1, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

On November 16, 2023, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Kimberly D. (Pruett) Clem, went to her eternal rest.

Kim was born in Atchison, Kansas, on December 8, 1967, the oldest daughter of Jerry Pruett and Joyce (Robbins) Pruett. She attended schools in Effingham and graduated from ACCHS. She earned her A.A.S in accounting from Vo-Tech and used her degree to assist Patsy Porter, CPA for a few years before she joined the Hardware Store in Atchison, where she became a very familiar face. She most recently was working in the janitorial department at Bradken. She was always one to put others needs before her own and that attribute showed in everything she did.

Kim and James “Corky” Clem were married on May 12, 1989, at the Cummings Christian Church. They shared many great years together and created a family bond that will be remembered forever. Although you may have seen Kim out and about, it was because she simply always wanted to be around her family. If it was up to her, she could have just always been at home! The joy her grandchildren brought to her life was beyond what words can describe. Kim could be summed up by “anything family” made her happy, whether fishing, razr riding or spending time in the garage with Corky and kids while they worked on cars; as long as she was surrounded by her family, she was happy. Kim’s faith was important to her, and she was at peace in her life.

Her family will miss her forever, including her husband, Corky Clem; children, Amber Cox (Dallas), Joseph Clem (fiancé-Marisa), Jacob Clem (Rebecca), Jordan Clem (Amy), Joel Clem; her siblings, Jerry “Jay” Pruett, Jr., Ra’Chel Seever (Brian), Amanda Pruett, Noah Pruett, Bethany Pruett; her beloved fifteen grandchildren and her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.

Her life will be celebrated and remembered with a service on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Cormode as officiant. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Kim will be laid to rest at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.&nbsp;

Doris was born January 26, 1935, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence G. and Phoebe (Thrift) Watowa. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School.

She and Leslie E. Smith were married November 5, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Church in Atchison. They were married 63 years until Mr. Smith preceded her in death on January 16, 2017.

Doris was a member of St. Benedict Parish. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and sewing. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was born July 2, 1951 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Ethel and James Armstrong. She worked at  as a Nurse Aid in the health care industry. Sharon enjoyed auctions, garage selling, fishing, camping, singing, drawing, and crafts but most especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She attended the Bethel Four Square church. Sharon was preceded in death by mother, Ethel Pueker, father, James Armstrong, son, James A. Grippando Jr.,  brother, Jim Armstrong, sisters, Janet Armstrong and Rennie Ritzinger, and granddaughter, Season Grippando. Beverly Ann Homan, 91, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Atchison, KS. She was born September 3, 1932 in St. Joseph, daughter of Irene and Gaines Pearson. She also was a proud grandmother and mother, and loved taking care of her family. Beverly was a member of  the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She is preceded in death by husband, Jack Homan in 2018, her parents, sons, Timothy, Joseph, and Mark Homan, brother, Melvin Pearson, sister, Linda Schilling, and a great-granddaughter, Amber Rose Shipley. Beverly Ann Homan 1932 - 2023

James C. Cormier peacefully departed this world, family and friends on November 15th, 2023 in Columbia, Missouri. &nbsp;

James was born on August 3, 1931 to Albert and Elizabeth Cormier in Jennings, Louisiana. &nbsp;He was the youngest of &nbsp;eight children- six brothers and one sister.

He graduated from Minnesota Bible College in in 1954 and also attended Ozark Bible College the following year began his more than 60 year career of preaching at Gentry Christian Church in Arkansas and then throughout the Midwest until his final position in Tipton, Missouri. &nbsp;Here he retired with his loving wife of 71 years, Lucy Mae Tevis ( Cormier).&nbsp;

They had two children- Kevin precedes him in death at the age of 39, and Matthew has two children, Carson and Calissa and is married to Miranda. &nbsp; He is also survived by Kevin’s three daughters- Kristen, Stephanie, Danielle, and three great-grand children - Christopher, Noah, and Hudson.&nbsp;

He loved preaching the word of God, calling on families in their homes and attending to the spiritual needs of hospitalized church members. &nbsp; He always had a smile on his face and never knew a stranger. &nbsp; When he wasn’t preparing a sermon, he was always reading or working odd jobs, helping his sons practice their sports, &nbsp;gardening, and working on the cars.&nbsp;

Gravside services and interment will be held at 2 pm, November 21 at the Agency Cemetery in Agency, MO. &nbsp;Cards and memorials may sent to the funeral home in care of the family.

He will be dearly missed by all that knew him well and he goes to a better place now.

James C. Donald "Bud" Jordan, 96, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Donald was born September 8, 1927 to Lee and Marjorie (Daugherty) Jordan in Saxton, Missouri. &nbsp;Donald graduated from Agency High School in 1945. Following high school, Donald served in the United States Army. He married Beverly Miller on November 25, 1950 &nbsp;at St. Patrick's Church and together they raised four sons. Beverly passed away April 26, 1997.

Donald was a dairy farmer all of his life and a Mutual Insurance agent for Buchanan county for 27 years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, MFA, Missouri Soil and Water District Boards and an avid pinochle player.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Beverly; brothers Hubert, Louis, and William Jordan and companion Lucille Knapp.

Survivors include sons David, Mark (Joannie), Keith, and Philip (Ellen) Jordan; grandchildren Stacey Jordan Cook (Clark), Scott Jordan (Heidi), Lee Jordan (Jessie), Lynn Wright (Matt), and Neil Alley (Dinelle); great grandchildren Dallas Kelly (Tyler), Jessica Cook and William Wright; great great grandchild Noah Jordan Kelly; sister Edith Cook; sister-in-law Charlene Jordan and numerous nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; David loved traveling, hunting, gun collecting, and cars.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Bev,” as she liked to be called, was born January 15, 1933 in St. Joseph to the late Grover Charles and Berniece Irene (Jacques) Shearer.

She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and Sisters Hospital School of Nursing, where she was later employed. She continued her career working for physicians Willman and Beheler, and John T. Rogers. She eventually retired from nursing at Tiffany Square in 1995.

Bev enjoyed reading and watching television in her leisure time. She loved roses and her favorite color was blue.

She was a lifelong member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church, although an absentee member in her later years.

Bev was born a survivor and overcomer at 3 lbs., 4 oz., premature during the Depression. Her mother passed from this earth days after her birth. Bev survived a divorce and being a “single mom” in the early sixties, when such things were rare. Nineteen Eighty Six had her surviving and thriving after a lemon-sized brain tumor. She returned to her career two months afterward.

She is survived by her daughter, Julianne (Julie) Tiedt Hill, St. Joseph; grandsons, Eric Thomas Hill, Roanoke, Virginia, and Joshua Charles Hill, Eugene, Oregon; and many cousins in Missouri and Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother and aunt who raised her, Myrtle Belle (Amos) Shearer and Thelma Rebecca (Shearer) Parson; parents, Grover Charles and Berniece Irene (Jacques) Shearer; and cousin, raised as a brother, Jack Ellis Parson.

He was born September 18, 1959 in Leadville, Colorado to Gerald and Minerva (Luoma) Miskowic.

After he finished high school at age 17, Larry served his country in the U.S. Navy, then worked in numerous security positions.

Larry was a wannabe comedian, always telling jokes. A couple of his favorites were:

“What happens to Santa Claus when he gets old? He turns into Kris Krinkle.”

And, “I got my pumpkin to stop smoking – I put him on the pumpkin patch!”

He was outgoing and enjoyed telling stories of his “wandering years” traveling around the country.

Survivors include his son, Jack; numerous friends, including Julie Tatro and her children, Andrew Tatro (Jana), Jennifer Kline (Courtney), Matthew Tatro (Katie), Emily Leroy (Kevin), and Julienne Tatro. Other friends included Karen Brushwood (Robert Hrabeck) and Larry’s “adopted” grandchildren, Vander, Harmonie, Camryn, Ava, Zain, Nolan and Jack.

Lee Glen Austin, 79, of Holton, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at his home. &nbsp;

He was born September 15, 1944 at Marysville, the son of Walter and Maudie Goad Austin. &nbsp;He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the 24th Infantry Division from 1962 to 1965. &nbsp;He also attended Central Nebraska Technical College. &nbsp;

Lee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holton until it closed. &nbsp;He was then a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holton. &nbsp;He was also a member of Holton American Legion Post No. 44.

Before he was married, Lee had worked as a meat cutter for an IGA Grocery Store. &nbsp;He later worked for Dale’s Electronics in Norfolk, NE and for Automatic Electric, installing telephones and other communication equipment. &nbsp;His last job before retirement was with Douglas Communications in Holton.

Lee married Karla Kay Allgeier on August 7, 1966 at the Church of the Brethren near Summerfield. &nbsp;She survives, of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Taylor.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael Austin (Stacey), Kansas City, MO and David Austin (Jackie Lynn), Holton, and two grandchildren, Lucian and Zoe Montgomery.

Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 22nd at the First United Methodist Church in Holton.  Inurnment with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. the same day in the Greenwood Cemetery at Blue Rapids. Billy Joe Hill of Dearborn, MO went home to be with Jesus on Saturday November 11, 2023. Billy was the 13th child of James W. Hill and Pearl Francis Hill. Billy was born on December 3, 1939 and spent most of his life in the Platte County, MO area, where he helped his dad on the farm. Billy met the love of his life Edith Pauline Soffray, and they were married in October 1960 at the Christian Assembly Church in Weston, MO. After his marriage, Billy purchased a farm in Weston, MO where he raised several crops. He took pride in each crop that he raised, but his overall favorite was his tobacco. In 1984, he received an award for outstanding Tobacco farmer by the Missouri Council for Burley Tobacco. Along with farming, Billy worked as a welder for Altec in St. Joseph, MO. In 2007, Billy retired from Altec and enjoyed the rest of his years growing big gardens, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Billy is survived by his 4 daughters; Paula(Rick) Robinson, Weston, MO, Vera (Mark) Henke, Dearborn, MO, Donna (Jimmy) Crockett, Weston, MO, and Pearl Cattell of Kansas City, MO. Billy is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Chad, Daniel, Brett, Angel, Ashley, Jessica, Reece, Kristi, Sarah, Shelby, Corbin, and many great grandchildren. In 2007, Billy retired from Altec and enjoyed the rest of his years growing big gardens, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Billy is survived by his 4 daughters; Paula(Rick) Robinson, Weston, MO, Vera (Mark) Henke, Dearborn, MO, Donna (Jimmy) Crockett, Weston, MO, and Pearl Cattell of Kansas City, MO. Billy is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Chad, Daniel, Brett, Angel, Ashley, Jessica, Reece, Kristi, Sarah, Shelby, Corbin, and many great grandchildren. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his two brothers Eddie Hill, and Eugene Hill. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 17 at First Christian Assembly Church of Weston. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. Douglas Sean Stewart, 50, of Severance, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Hiawatha Hospital.

Doug was born on April 19, 1973, in Fort Lewis, Washington to Ellis Jr. and Cleo (Adkins) Stewart.

He worked various jobs including, Doniphan County Road and Bridge, City of Troy, and a jailer for Doniphan County Sheriffs Department. Doug was an avid fisherman, hunter, and wood worker.

Doug was preceded in death by his father.

Siblings, Rhonda Ellsworth, Lori Stewart, James Stewart, and Bill Stewart.
