Cathy Jean Amos, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025. She valiantly fought glioblastoma with a smile on her face.
She was born August 2, 1952 in St. Joseph to Jack and Elizabeth (Weiser) Peters. She grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from Benton High School. She was a member of the River Church.
Cathy was a school photographer for McBee’s Photography for many years, before working for the St. Joseph School District in the kitchens of Humboldt Elementary School, Lafayette High School, and Oak Grove Elementary. She then found the most fulfillment as a caregiver at Choices, whose residents she considered her own kids.
In her younger years, Cathy enjoyed horseshoes and was an avid bowler. She was a softball fanatic, participating in tournaments every weekend with her best friend, Charlene. Later in life, she was the No. 1 fan of her grandchildren at their sporting events.
She simply adored her great-grandson, who was the light in her life during her battle with cancer.
Cathy leaves a legacy for her family of love, strength and resiliency, which they will cherish forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack Peters; and best friend, Charlene Lloyd.
Survivors include children, Billy Amos, Jr. and Amy Bates (Bob); grandchildren, Caleb Bates (Hayley Goehring) and Delaney Bates; great-grandson, Carson Bates; brother, Terry Peters (Veronica); sister-in-law, Cheryl Peters; nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 23, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to the River Church.
