Linda S. (Huey) Ambrozi, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday July 7, 2025.

On September 11, 1952 God made the choice to place her in the care of the most loving parents He could find, Winford Dale Huey Sr. and Elizabeth (Grooms) Huey.

Linda was a 1970 graduate of Lafayette High School.

On December 3, 1994, Linda married Eric Ambrozi. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2004.

Linda had a variety of skills that she used at different jobs during her life. She was a bartender at Barbosa’s and later at Ground Round, then worked at Sherwood Medical until it closed during the Flood of 1993. She then worked at Nestle and Mead Products before settling in at Gray Manufacturing, where she worked until retirement. Following that, she helped in various ways at the VFW Post 6760.

Linda loved animals, especially her dogs, and was a food connoisseur, which she got to indulge while running Ambrozi Foods with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother, Dennis Wayne Huey.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Jason Mulvaney, Kimberly Ambrozi and Eric Christopher Ambrozi, along with several step grandchildren. Siblings, Debbie Rogers (Buddy), W. Dale Huey, Jr. (Donna), and Christopher Huey (Michelle); sister-in-law,

Mary Helen Huey; 8 nephews, 1 niece, extended family and friends; and her beloved dog, Izzy.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the Rupp Funeral Home. Cremation under the direction of Simplify Cremations &amp; Funerals. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Friends of the Animal Shelter.

Deborah Jane Huntsman went to be with the Lord in her eternal home on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Debbie was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to K.J. “Jerry” and Frances (Brown) Huntsman on November 12, 1951. She loved growing up on the farm just outside of Maitland, Missouri.&nbsp;

Debbie graduated from Nodaway-Holt High School in Graham and then received an associate’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University. She spent most of her career working in the field of mental health, retiring from that position with the State of Missouri at Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center after 28 years of service.

After retiring Debbie started caring for Joanie and Charlotte Gillies while their parents worked, and they became such a joy in her life. She also loved delivering flowers for Village Flowers, later becoming Hy-Vee Flowers by Rob.

Debbie was a member of the Grace Evangelical Church, where she loved giving back to others. She was a member of the Hands of Grace Committee, reaching out to others in the community. Debbie was also on the Singles Repurposed Group Committee. She loved helping with Backpack Buddies through Second Harvest and volunteering at the Noyes Home. Debbie also helped with the Cancer Care Ministry and Pastoral Care Ministry at Grace Evangelical.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Frances Huntsman, as well as many beloved pets.&nbsp;

She is survived by her sister, Kay Huntsman; her brothers, Bill (Dawn) Huntsman and Robert Huntsman; her niece, Tenille Costner; nephew, Lee Costner; great nephews, Derek Holman, Brett Holman, and Leyton Costner; and great nieces, Kristina Holman and Kadence Costner. She loved her family very much!

Freda Sieg, 91, Independence, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 4, 2025.

She was born September 9, 1933 to the late Lawrence Bixler and Stella Grace (Merrill) Herring in Dawn, Missouri.

In 1954 she married Richard Kellett. They had two children, Patricia Jo and Richard Joseph Jr. Her husband was tragically killed in a car accident in 1958. She later married Harland Sieg and had two boys, Jeffrey and Stacey. Her son Richard "Joe" was killed in a car accident July 6, 1986. Harland passed December 22. 2012.

Survivors include her daughter Patricia, sons Jeff and Stacey, grandchildren Jamie Winsor, Rachel Dunaway, Jason Sieg, Dustan Sieg and Hunter Sieg and 6 great grandchildren.

James “Larry” Patterson Sr, 84, of Leavenworth, KS passed away&nbsp;Sunday, July 6th, 2025.

Larry was born November 29th, 1940 in Pleasantville, IA, the son of&nbsp;William M. Patterson and Eva Grace Burnham Patterson.He Married Frances L. Cavaner on December 6th, 1960 at Jarbalo&nbsp;Methodist Church. They spent 46 eventful years together.

Larry loved traveling across the country by motorcycle with his wife and friends. Other hobbies included playing softball, flying his airplane,&nbsp;hunting, fishing, boat riding and spending time at his lake house with his&nbsp;family.&nbsp;He was a Union carpenter for several years until he grew his ownbusiness with his wife and two sons. He owned Patterson Homes and&nbsp;Rentals.Larry is survived by his brothers; John Patterson and Dan Patterson&nbsp;(Linda), two sons; Gary Patterson and Jim Patterson (Jami), daughter;Missy Burke, Grandchildren; Kyle Patterson (Elizabeth), Rachael Wright&nbsp;(Caleb), Krystal Sanders (Kyle), several great grandchildren, cousins,nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his wife Frances, his brother Bill, his&nbsp;sister Rose and his parents.

James "Jim" Alvan Snead, 72, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at his home. He was born August 3, 1952 in St. Joseph, Missouri, son of the late Nellie "Pauline" and George Snead. He graduated from Benton High School, 1970 and Missouri Western State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management. He married Sherrie Colbert on December 30, 1978 and she survives of the home. He served in the United States Air Force. Jim worked for the State of Missouri as a Case Analyst. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. Jim spent time volunteering at the Open Door Food Kitchen, in the nursery and serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church in St. Joseph, MO. He was a member of the PTA when his children were in school.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Linda Nickols, and Diane Kirwan. Survivors include wife, Sherrie Snead of the home, daughters, Rebecca (Henry) Nahwooksy of Liberty, MO, and Rachel Snead of Savannah, MO, a brother, Robert Snead, Albuquerque, NM, a sister, Cheryl Snead, Independence, MO, and his faithful canine companion, Griff.

James Snead August 3, 1952-July 8, 2025

Lois Elaine Chapman, 78, passed away at her home in Lansing, KS on July 6, 2025. &nbsp;She was born in Kansas City, MO on December 1, 1945, the daughter of Marvin and Lucy Fern Anderson.

Lois graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO in 1963. &nbsp;She received her teaching degree from St. Mary’s College and taught 4th grade. &nbsp;She also received her degree in Accounting, passed the CPA, and provided tax support for many years before her retirement.&nbsp;

In October 1974, she married her husband of 42 years, Edward J. Chapman, Jr. “Chap” and went on to have 1 child, Lisa Elaine Chapman, July 1976.

Lois and Chap shared a love for historical homes, and in 1975 they purchased their dream home on South Broadway, in Leavenworth, KS. where they resided for 36 years. &nbsp;She took great pride in the home. &nbsp;They hosted many parties, family holiday gatherings, fundraising events, historical homes tours and an annual event of scaring trick-or-treaters on Halloween. &nbsp;She also loved gardening. &nbsp;You could find her in her yard day or night watering, tending to her plants and pulling those pesky weeds. &nbsp;She enjoyed collecting antiques, tennis, swimming, volunteering for the Leavenworth County Historical Society, and being a housewife and mother to Chap and Lisa.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Joe) Walsh; stepdaughter, Rebecca (John) Sauter; stepson Edward J. Chapman III (Ann) and two step grandsons Edward J. Chapman IV and Jacob Chapman; sisters, Ruth Smoot, Carol Wiswell, Jeanette Joyce (Tom), Nancy Driller (Tim), Rebecca Smith (John) and Barbara Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Jr; parents; sisters, Dorothy Peterson, Mary Dell Floyd; brother Glen Anderson; and loving companions, Macho, Nellie and Mr. K.&nbsp;

Marget "Janet" Jones, 83, of St Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at her home. She was born March 26, 1942 in Dowes, IA, daughter of Alma and George Clark. She graduated from Central High School and attended Hillyard Technical School, earning a Nursing Certificate. Janet worked as a LPN at the Gower Convalescent Center and Retired from the State Hospital in St. Joseph. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and was a fantastic cook. In 1976, Janet was instrumental to the starting the Easton Fair, serving as the Head Coordinator for several years.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Charles J. Hughes Jr., and late husband, Lee Charles Jones, daughter, Lynne Hughes, sister, Juliet Iams and brother, George Clark Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Mitch (Gloria) Hughes of Springfield, MO, Mike Hughes of St. Joseph, Chuck (Christi) Hughes of St. Joseph, Robert (Lisa) Hughes of Kansas City, MO, half-brother, David Adams, numerous grandchildren, including Kali (Tyler) Mathews and 2 grandsons of the home, Javian and Bryson Hughes, numerous great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

Marget "Janet" Jones March 26, 1942-July 7, 2025

Robert "Bobby" Dewayne Miller, 58, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born to Mary Alice (Markt) and Willis Dewayne Miller on June 9th 1967 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Bobby graduated from Central High School in the class of 1987. Following graduation he worked for Quaker Oats, and most recently Altec; as a welder.

Bobby was known for his love of music, playing guitar for local bands, Survivors of Bobby include his father Willis Miller, sister Carrie Miller, Children: Brooklynn Miller and Bryceton Bolinger, and his partner; Cindy Hampton, of the home. He is also survived by his step-siblings, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Preceding Bobby in death were his mother, Mary Alice, and son, Brinnin Bolinger.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th, 2025 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith-Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, Missouri from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Robert "Bobby" Dewayne Miller, 58, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Sunday, July 6th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.Bobby was born to Mary Alice (Markt) and Willis Dewayne Miller on June 9th 1967 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Bobby graduated from Central High School in the class of 1987. Following graduation he worked for Quaker Oats, and most recently Altec; as a welder.Bobby was known for his love of music, playing guitar for local bands, Survivors of Bobby include his father Willis Miller, sister Carrie Miller, Children: Brooklynn Miller and Bryceton Bolinger, and his partner; Cindy Hampton, of the home. Robert Miller June 9, 1967-July 6, 2025

Charles (Tom) Jaynes, 82, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2025, with his family at his side.

Tom was born on March 17, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas to Thomas H. Jaynes and Jessie I. (Meers) Jaynes. He was a devoted husband to Sophie for almost 58 years, and loving father to Tommy and Brian.

Tom married Sophie at the former St. Stanislaus Church in St. Joseph, on October 12, 1968. He converted to Catholicism prior to the wedding, and together Tom and Sophie have been devoted members of St. Joseph’s Cathedral for almost six decades. Tom was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5067, and a 4 th Degree Knight with Council 569.

Tom retired from American Airlines after working for Trans World Airlines for over four decades. He was a crew chief in the overhaul base at Kansas City International Airport.

Tom was a lifelong member and union steward of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). Tom was also a veteran, having served briefly in the Navy, then the Air Force for several years before becoming a member of the Air National Guard at Rosecrans Air Base in St. Joseph. He retired from the military after serving over two decades, including tours in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant, and was a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association.

Tom became a Scout Leader in the Boy Scouts of America in 1983. He was very involved in Scouting and the Pony Express Council until his health required him to step away in 2018. He served as Cubmaster of Pack 47 at Cathedral of St. Joseph, and later in multiple roles for Troop 47 including Committee Chair for many years. Tom was very involved in the Catholic Committee for Scouting, and played a large role in raising funds for, and helping to build the chapel at Camp Geiger in St. Joseph.

Tom started his career as a pilot, learning to fly crop dusters. Due to an injury, Tom became an aircraft mechanic so he could still work around aircraft. He loved all things mechanical, taking them apart and learning how they worked. Tom and his father together built a working helicopter, and both were lifelong model train enthusiasts. If it broke, Tom could fix it. And if he couldn’t, he kept it anyway.

Tom is survived by his wife Sophie, their children Tommy (Monica) and Brian, four grandchildren (Caleb, Madalyn, Logan and Sailor), his sister Mary (Bachman), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Tom’s memory to the American Heart Association, or the Boy Scouts of America Pony Express Council Friends of Scouting.

Parish Rosary will be Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 5:30 PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel followed by visitation until 8:00 pm. &nbsp;Memorial Mass will be Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at The Cathedral of St. Joseph. Inurnment and military honors will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Rae Ann (Hester) Gilmore, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care.

She was born October 8, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert and Florence (Bennett) Hester and moved to Craig, Missouri at a young age.

Rae Ann married Chester J. Gilmore on July 4, 1952. They were married for 65 years before his passing in 2017.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert and Michael Hester and daughter-in-law Linda Gilmore.

Survivors include 4 sons, Chuck (Judy), Steave, Mike (Rita) and Rick Gilmore. One daughter, Christina DePriest (Don). Sister, Judy Jenkins, 27 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Rae Ann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Rosemary Wasserman, daughter of Walter and Martha Heitmeyer, peacefully passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday, July 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jean, and &nbsp;sons, Robert, Michael, and Brian. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald (Eleanor) Heitmeyer and Virgil (Joan) Heitmeyer.

Rosemary leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Christine (Frank) Nessmith of Wimberley, Texas; Lisa (Steve) Courter of Lansing, Kansas; James Wasserman of Kansas City, Missouri; Barbara (David) Knapp of Lake Forest, California; and Sharon (Rick) Bell of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Alice (Bud) Swetland, and brother, Eugene (Ann) Heitmeyer, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her spirit forward.

Growing up in Ottawa, Ohio, Rosemary worked as a court reporter before meeting her husband and moving to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Rosemary was adored for her boundless energy and her unwavering commitment to helping those in need. Her volunteer work was a testament to her active and compassionate nature. She served her church, St. Francis de Sales, with dedication as altar society president, lay minister, and lector. She also took care of all the floral arrangements and funeral dinners for the church. Her involvement in the 4H community during her children's youth and her volunteer work at the Leavenworth Assistance Center and C.W. Parker Carousel Museum after her husband's passing showcased her lifelong devotion to service.

Rosemary exemplified the true essence of living a meaningful life. She generously shared her time, talents, and heart, always seeing the best in everyone and giving selflessly. She was truly a divine presence on earth.

Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 9th from 5-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis de Sales Church in Lansing, Kansas at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10th. Rosemary will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jean, at Leavenworth National Cemetery following the funeral.

Ronald D. Baldwin, age 62, passed away in his home on June 27, 2025. He was an enrolled member of the Kickapoo tribe. He is survived by his daughter, Amber Shobney (Tanner) and his two granddaughters, Braelynne and Adelynne Nelson. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his cherished feline companion, Squeakers.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lu Keller, who departed this world with family by her side, on July 5th, 2025. Lu was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and a cherished member of the community. Born on September 5th, 1942, in Atchison, KS. She was baptized in the Methodist church as a baby, and later at age 10, baptized in the Christian Church in Reserve. She enjoyed bible school and attended church camp for several years. &nbsp;

Lu endured a life filled with remarkable challenges, accomplishments, hard work, and quiet, meaningful moments that touched the hearts of many. As a child, her family moved to Reserve where she attended elementary school and high school. Lu was a cheerleader and loved to dance. She was a Halloween queen in high school, played a trumpet for her talent, and had the lead in 3 years of class plays. She absolutely loved school.&nbsp;

Lu’s future husband, George “Bud” Keller asked her out her sophomore year, and again her junior year…she said she turned him down both times. Eventually seeing him again halfway through her Senior year and she decided to ask a friend to set them up. The two were married 9 months later October 30th, 1960. After borrowing $10 to pay the preacher, the couple began their lives together. They started with a small amount of furniture in a rented house at a rate of $25 per month. No phone, no cabinets, no washer and dryer, but they made do. &nbsp;

Lu found work in garment factories as a young woman and said that this is where she learned to work hard and fast. Eventually starting a family, they moved to the country near White Cloud in 1973. Lu was a devoted homemaker and did whatever she had to do to help on their farm and in the fields. Lu and Bud raised 3 children, many animals, including cattle and horses. They were members of the White Cloud Saddle Club and enjoyed traveling to horse shows with many friends over the years. &nbsp;

At age 40 she began a 29-year career working for the Iowa Tribe and managing the Bingo operation before retiring at age 69. She had a hard nose attitude, a pioneer spirit, and a big heart. Lu experienced many hardships but had a smile to hide it all behind. Lu left an indelible mark on the world and an everlasting legacy. Anyone who knew Lu will never forget her smile.&nbsp;

Above all, Lu will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering integrity, and boundless love for family and friends. Lu found joy in the simplest of things. She loved mowing her lawn, feeding her horses, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had a way of inspiring others to live fully and compassionately.&nbsp;

Lu is survived by her brothers Dale and wife Linda Sanders, Topeka, KS, John and Michelle Sanders, Panama City, FL, Jerry Sanders, Reserve KS, Her Children, Chris, wife Karla Keller, White Cloud KS, daughter Angie, and husband Bill Davidson, Rulo, NE and son Wes and wife Mindy Keller, Highland, KS. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren who will carry forward the lessons, values, and love that she so generously imparted. Lu is now reunited with her parents Vester Dale and Hazel Myers Sanders, as well as the love of her life, George “Bud” Thomas Keller, resting in eternal peace.&nbsp;

A celebration of Lu’s life will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha with &nbsp;Tony French will officiating. &nbsp;Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud. Lu Keller September 5, 1942-July 5, 2025

Our little Angel Colton David Wenger was called to his Eternal Home unexpectedly July 2, 2025, the son of Katelyn Ann Brockman and Cole Alan Wenger.

Colton was born December 24, 2024, in Topeka and was fortunate to have an ‘older’ brother Reign Emerald Alan Wenger.

Other survivors include grandparents Seth and Jennifer Hanes, Chad Wenger, Sandra Hunninghake; Great-Grandparents include Rod and Betty Wenger, Dick and Ginger Hunninghake. &nbsp;Also to cherish his memory are several aunts and uncles: &nbsp;Tucker Brockman, Eric &amp; Kayla Stahl, Stephen &amp; Jill Severin, Dylan &amp; Jodi Folk, Mitch &amp; Kristy Langley, Matt &amp; Leisha Strausz, Erin &amp; Kara Simmons, Brett Hunninghake, Scott Hunninghake, Emma Wenger; along with many cousins.

Other relatives to welcome him to his new home are Great-Grandparents David and Jane Stahl, Cousin Bowen Neal Stahl, Great-Grandfathers Elmer and Vernon Wenger.

Private family services are being planned with Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl officiating. &nbsp;Interment will be at the Cornelison Cemetery, east of Reserve.

Our little Angel Colton David Wenger was called to his Eternal Home unexpectedly July 2, 2025, the son of Katelyn Ann Brockman and Cole Alan Wenger.Colton was born December 24, 2024, in Topeka and was fortunate to have an ‘older’ brother Reign Emerald Alan Wenger.Other survivors include grandparents Seth and Jennifer Hanes, Chad Wenger, Sandra Hunninghake; Great-Grandparents include Rod and Betty Wenger, Dick and Ginger Hunninghake. &nbsp;Also to cherish his memory are several aunts and uncles: &nbsp;Tucker Brockman, Eric &amp; Kayla Stahl, Stephen &amp; Jill Severin, Dylan &amp; Jodi Folk, Mitch &amp; Kristy Langley, Matt &amp; Leisha Strausz, Erin &amp; Kara Simmons, Brett Hunninghake, Scott Hunninghake, Emma Wenger; along with many cousins.Other relatives to welcome him to his new home are Great-Grandparents David and Jane Stahl, Cousin Bowen Neal Stahl, Great-Grandfathers Elmer and Vernon Wenger.Private family services are being planned with Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl officiating. &nbsp;Interment will be at the Cornelison Cemetery, east of Reserve.<figure>

As an avid believer in lists, a job well done and a task completed – J.D. has reached the ultimate conclusion on July 4, 2025, the beginning of eternity in Heaven.

In his 85 years he accomplished much as he sought out and assumed responsibilities to improve and promote the area where he lived and worked. But his greatest joy was his family.

He married Margaret Gabriel or “Peg” on September 9, 1961, in their&nbsp;hometown of Wathena, Kansas. They were blessed with two (2) daughters, Robyn (Craig) Johnson and Lisa (Rhett) Scrimsher. In addition, they have (7) grandchildren and seven (7) great-grandchildren. They are: Nicholas (Leah) Johnson, Jesse Daniel, William “Will” Steven and Henry Baus Johnson; Maggie (Cody) Edwards, Charles “Charlie” Craig and Watson Lee Edwards; Drew (Kristen) Scrimsher, and Hudson Daniel Scrimsher; Leah (Cooper) Leach, and Stevie Linn Leach; Noah Scrimsher, Olivia Scrimsher (deceased) and Sophie Scrimsher. All of them brought incredible pride and joy to his life.

J.D. – Jesse Daniel – was born to Everett and Gladys (Weigant) Euler on December 24, 1939, at home in Blair, Kansas. J.D. was the 5th of 6 children – Jack (Phyllis); Maxine (Don) Sklenar; Everett Jr. (Juanita); Molly (Bill) Horner and Melanie (Jim) Drake. He is survived by his sister Molly and her husband, Bill, his in-laws Juanita Euler and Jim Drake, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He attended Blair school and graduated from Wathena High School in 1957 and then attended and graduated from St. Joseph Junior College, Washburn University in 1961 and Washburn School of Law in 1965. J.D. &nbsp;was admitted to practice before Kansas and U.S. Supreme Courts. He and Peg and their daughters returned to Wathena where J.D. practiced law with his brother, Jack, from 1965 until J.D. was appointed as District Judge in 1988. While

engaged in the general practice of law he also served as Doniphan County Attorney and City Attorney for both Elwood and Wathena. In addition, he aided in the establishment of the zoning regulations for Doniphan County; the levee district boards for Burr Oak and Elwood-Gladden; and rural water districts throughout Doniphan County. In 1988 he was appointed District Judge of the 22nd Judicial District, and retired in 2000 after serving as Chief Judge for six (6) years. He was known as a fair judge who was always prepared.

Upon his retirement as judge he began his third career as a columnist for the Kansas Chief – “Don’t Shoot the Messenger” and 2nd District Doniphan County Commissioner.

Now down to business and J.D.’s responsibility and commitment to any community he was a part of. This was a result of growing up in a small community and knowing people in good times and bad and receiving support from so many people and organizations through the years. He always emphasized the importance of serving others rather than being served. During his adult life J.D. served others in the following capacities. He was County Attorney for Doniphan County, Kansas; and a member of the Wathena City Council. He worked with benefactors to establish the Earl and Susie Euler scholarship trusts and Euler Wathena Library Trusts. Active member and past Elder and Deacon of the Troy Christian Church. Member and past master of the Wathena Masonic Lodge. He aided in the establishment of the Doniphan County Community Foundation. He also served as a member of the following organizations: Mo-Kan Planning Commission; Kansas Mental Health Board; Wathena High School Alumni Association and Trust; Kansas and Northeast Kansas Bar Association; Board of Governors for the American Judges Association; Christian Legal Society; Kansas District Judges Association; SOABS; Hiawatha Gideons Camp. Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank, Wathena. He was a member of Washburn University School of Law; Missouri Western State&nbsp;University and Washburn Alumni Associations. He was a prior member of the Kiwanis Club, Hiawatha Elks; and an active participant in various charitable fund campaigns.

Some activities and accomplishments he was most pleased with included the establishment of the Wathena High School Alumni Trust; serving as Trustee of the Bauer-Hoover Trusts which aided in building the Bauer-Hoover Masonic Lodge building; serving as secretary of the Bellemont Cemetery Association and Bauer-Hoover Cemetery Trust with projects that included asphalting roads; insuring trees were planted, that land was purchased for expansion; and numerous stones repaired and markers replaced. While serving as County Commissioner the new jail was constructed and the Courthouse wall and sidewalk were repaired and replaced. He established the Earl and Susie Euler Trusts which have provided numerous scholarships to local youth and established the Wathena Library branch. He was also a strong advocate and promoter of Industrial Development in Elwood-Wathena area while serving as County and City Attorney.

Finally, all jobs were more than a salary or title or power. J.D. was always&nbsp;looking for ways to improve the position and/or community. As an example, while serving as District Judge he completed the project of hanging portraits of Doniphan County Judges who had served the last 130 years; he utilized community service for jailed persons and those on probation which allowed for the painting of the Courtroom and Courthouse; trash pickup and several other projects; he also insured that Bench Bar Meetings and continuing legal education for attorneys in the 22nd Judicial District were provided and held. While County Attorney he established the Court Trustee Program serving as the first Trustee; he held numerous inquisitions involving crime in Doniphan County and filed criminal complaints regardless of who was involved.

He cherished the friends he had and the relationships that he made throughout his life. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on in the people he encountered throughout his life and especially through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena, Kansas. Visitors may come to the funeral home beginning at 1 P.M. that day.

Church, Troy, Kansas, with burial to be immediately thereafter at Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena, Kansas.

Gerald E. “Jerry” Theis, 75, formerly of Troy, Kansas passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Wathena, Kansas.

Jerry was born on February 28, 1950, to Nick Sr. and Millie (Christian) Theis. Jerry worked as a auto mechanic and bought and sold cars in Troy, Kansas. He moved to Sunrise Beach, Missouri and managed Interstate Batteries and retired from Ellis Batteries. Jerry loved his wife, friends, family, the lake and building model cars.

Jerry married Dianna Shellenberger on June 23, 2022, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Stanton.

Additional survivors, daughters, Shelbe King (Danny), and Miranda Coleman (Chase). Step-children, Angela Stover (Blair), Timothy Shellenberger (Jessica) and Jeremy Shellenberger. Grandchildren, Millie Mayfield (Lane), Kohlbe King (Holly), Oaklynn and Kingsley Coleman. Step-grandchildren, Amorie and Crewe Stover, Hunter, Trent and Alyssa Shellenberger, Solomon, Kylee and Blaine Shellenberger. Great-grandchild, Jarrett Mayfield. Brother, Nick Theis Jr. (Mary Lou), and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sarah Louise Scholz, 77, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 6, 2025. She was born on September 21, 1947, in Nortonville, Kansas, a daughter of the late Albert and Mildred (Buttron) Nolting.

Sarah was married to her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Scholz, on January 10, 1970, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Nortonville. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran church and was most recently a member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church in St. Peters. She enjoyed attending all her children’s activities, spending time with her grandchildren, talking with her friends and family, traveling, and in her younger days participating in bowling leagues and working on cross stitch patterns.

Sarah is survived by her husband; three sons Jason (Briana) Scholz, Jared (Leslie) Scholz, Matthew (Jennifer) Scholz; three grandchildren Wyatt, Eleanor, Isabel; a brother Melvin (Emily) Nolting; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded by her parents and sister, Charlotte Gigstad.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, July 18, 2025, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Nortonville, Kansas, with Pastor Richard Lally officiating. Sarah Scholz September 21, 1947-July 6, 2025

Glenn Lowell Calhoun, 95, passed away on July 4th, 2025 at Abundant Care in Savannah, Missouri.

He was born on May 20, 1930 to Everett and Eula Calhoun in Milan, MO. Glenn graduated from NKC High School in 1948.

Glenn served in the Navy from July 9, 1948 to July 7, 1952. He served aboard The U.S.S. Malabar (AF-37) ship which serviced military bases in the Caribbean, North Atlantic and Mediterranean Seas. After retiring from the Navy Glenn worked at Ford Motors from July 1952 to August 1953. He then worked for General Motors from April 1954 to April 1956. In May of 1956 he joined the NKC Police Dept and worked there until June 1961. He then joined the Missouri State Highway Patrol in July 1961 and was stationed in Chillicothe, MO. He later serviced the Cameron and St. Joseph, MO areas. He retired in June of 1990.

In 1952 he married Beverly McDowell and to this union one daughter, Suzan was born in 1954. She preceded him in death in 1988. In May of 1999 Glenn married Peggy Elliott. She preceded him in death in October 2024.

Glenn was a past member of Caring First Assembly of God and a member of Grace Evangelical Church in St. Joseph, MO. He served as an Usher at Grace Church.

After Glenn retired from the Highway Patrol he spent his time visiting Nursing Homes in Savannah and St. Joseph, MO. He also enjoyed playing golf in Savannah, MO. Glenn and Peggy enjoyed traveling with the Bank and Church Groups on several trips.

Glenn is survived by his daughter Suzan (Jim) Jarrett, Step-daughters Debbie (Kenny) Tanner and Margie (Louis) Long, step-son John Paul Jr. (Nikki) Elliott. He is also survived by grandson Nathaniel (Alyssa) Jarrett, step grandchildren Kyle (Heather) Tanner, Amy (Jimmy) Marriott, Hannah Elliott, John Eric (Tracie) Shepard, Justin Shepard, Jared (Rose) Shepard, 3 great grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren and 5 step great great-grandchildren.

Glenn Calhoun May 20, 1930-July 4, 2025

Frances "Jean" (O'Dell) Munger 94, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care. She was born November 27, 1930 in Bovee, SD, daughter of Grace (Munn) and Henry O'Dell. She married Norman Munger on April 25, 1947. She worked for Seitz Foods. Jean loved to fish, and she  enjoyed the many fishing trips her and Norman shared together. She was a member of the Sparta United Methodist Church and later Wesley United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, son, David Munger, her 7 sisters, and 2 brothers, grandsons, Jimmy Joe Munger II and Josh Munger, and daughter-in-law, Betty Munger. Survivors include: sons, Jimmy Munger, Sr., Frankie (Judy) Munger and Terry Munger, all of St. Joseph, daughter-in-law, Marsha Munger of Clarksdale, MO, grandchildren, Jason, Mandy, Amy, Jeremy, Tiffany, and Erin, 12 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Frances "Jean" (O'Dell) Munger 94, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care. She was born November 27, 1930 in Bovee, SD, daughter of Grace (Munn) and Henry O'Dell. She married Norman Munger on April 25, 1947. She worked for Seitz Foods. Jean loved to fish, and she enjoyed the many fishing trips her and Norman shared together. She was a member of the Sparta United Methodist Church and later Wesley United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, son, David Munger, her 7 sisters, and 2 brothers, grandsons, Jimmy Joe Munger II and Josh Munger, and daughter-in-law, Betty Munger. Survivors include: sons, Jimmy Munger, Sr., Frankie (Judy) Munger and Terry Munger, all of St. Joseph, daughter-in-law, Marsha Munger of Clarksdale, MO, grandchildren, Jason, Mandy, Amy, Jeremy, Tiffany, and Erin, 12 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Gary Rex Pace 74, of Savannah, Missouri, passed away &nbsp;Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in a Fairfax, MO. hospital. He was born November 2, 1950 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Betty and Rex Pace. He worked as an Auto Mechanic.

Gary was preceded in death by wife, Diane Christine Pace, father, and his parents. Survivors include son, Erik &nbsp;(Holly) Pace, daughter, Sarena Olson, sister, Carol Rizzo, four grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Lillian Frances (Noland) VanDeventer was born at her family home near Mound City, Missouri on June 4, 1939. She passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Tiffany Heights in Mound City after a brief illness.

Lillian graduated from Mound City High School in 1957. She worked at a restaurant for awhile. Then she worked at Mound City News-Independent for many years followed by working for Johnson Insurance until her retirement.

She married Ralph VanDeventer on September 12, 1964, and they lived in Mound City. Ralph preceded her in death on June 15, 1983.&nbsp;

Lillian attended church at the Mound City Presbyterian Church. She loved horses and reading.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Glenn and Frances Noland; her sister, Betty Grishow; nephews, Jay Grishow, Phil Blazer, and niece Cris VanDeventer.

Lillian is survived by her sister-in-law, Iva VanDeventer, Mound City; cousins, Laura Jo (Clenell) Prettyman of Barnard, Missouri; and Shirley Barnett of Savannah, Missouri; nephews, Scott Grishow and Charlie Bill (Vona) Blazer, Forest City, Missouri, and Tom (Samantha) VanDeventer of Mound City; nieces, Janet (Earl) Cromer, Oregon, Missouri, Susie Stewart and Robin Partridge, Wamego, Kansas, and Carol Brandon, Mound City.

Brooke passed away on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at home with her family. Brooke had the most generous heart as anyone we ever knew. Brooke was born on January 19th, 1986 as the youngest daughter to Cliff and Lea Welsh. &nbsp;She loved little kids and worked with them for many years. She started working in St. Joseph, MO at a daycare called One Step Ahead Early Learning Center LLC from 2006 to 2011. Then in August of 2012 she started working at Precious Memories Child Care LLC in Bethany with her best friend until she passed doing what she loved. &nbsp;Brooke graduated from South Harrison in 2004 and graduated from Graceland University with her BA in Elementary Education in 2011. The one thing Brooke always wanted in life was to have a family. She spent many nights wondering if she would ever get that chance. While she waited for her chance to become a mom, she touched so many lives while working with the kids at daycare. Many of them started as babies and have grown into older kids now, but they always remember their “Brookie”. She spoiled them, taught them, guided them, but most of all she loved them just like they were her own.

In 2019, Brooke decided to take her dream into her own hands and began fostering. It was at this time that she met Chloe and Aubrey. They were her dream kids and she couldn’t wait for them to be in her everyday life. They would become her everything and eventually the children she always wanted. On February 4th, 2022, Chloe was adopted and on December 13th, 2022, Brooke took guardianship of Aubery. Brooke adored Chloe and Aubrey and built a home that was centered around love and family. &nbsp;

Brooke is survived by her children: Chloe Welsh &amp; Aubrey Wynkoop; her parents, Lea and Cliffton Welsh (Bethany MO); her sister, Becky Creasey (Bethany MO); her brother, Ben &amp; Brandi Brooke (Bethany MO); her nephew, Wyatt Creasey (Bethany MO); her niece, Emily Creasey &nbsp;(Bethany MO); her nephews, Kayden Brooke, Kayl Brooke, Taylor Brooke, &amp; Rhett Brooke (Bethany MO); her nieces, Jessica &amp; Jamie Tharp (Bethany MO); and many aunts, uncles, &amp; friends that considered Brooke as a part of their family.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, George &amp; Mary Flint and Earl &amp; Thelma Welsh; along with her precious nephew, Kolton Brooke.

Brooke has been cremated under the direction of the Roberson Funeral Home. Her wishes were to have a private celebration of life with her family and close friends. Brooke Welsh January 19, 1986-July 3, 2025

Errol Doak Taylor, a devoted husband, father, and esteemed Missouri attorney, passed away peacefully at home in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the age of 84.

Born August 21, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri, Errol was the son of Veda (Doak) and Joseph Taylor. A proud graduate of Central High School’s Class of 1958, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri in 1963 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1966. While in law school, he was inducted into Phi Delta Phi, an international legal honor society.

Errol began his career in public service as First Assistant General Counsel for the Missouri Public Service Commission, serving from 1966 to 1970. He later returned to his hometown to join the firm of Brown, Douglas &amp; Brown, where he spent the bulk of his legal career serving the St. Joseph community. Known for his sharp legal mind, ethical standards, and calm presence in the courtroom, Errol was respected by peers and clients alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Errol was deeply involved in civic life. He was a proud member and past president of Rotary Club #32 in St. Joseph, where he devoted time to community service and scholarship initiatives. Though he was a lifelong Missouri resident, he and his wife enjoyed many years of sunshine and good company in Naples, Florida.

Errol lived life fully and with enthusiasm - from his days as a high school diver, to years spent on the golf course, cheering on the Mizzou Tigers, and eventually enjoying time as a fisherman and boater. One of his proudest adventures was the 2015 boating journey he and Sherry took aboard their Sea Tiger III, charting the famed Great Loop with their beloved cat, Dixie Bell, and making memories on the water that became treasured stories for years to come.

Errol shared over 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sherry. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Veda and Joseph Taylor; his brothers, Greg and Lynn; and his cherished children, Sean and Andrea.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry Taylor; his brother, Brian Taylor (Phyllis); sister-in-law, Linda Taylor; loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke Wood.
