C. Gregg Larson, 63, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024.

He was born July 14, 1961 in St. Joseph to Charles and Marylou (Wood) Larson. Gregg graduated from Savannah High School in 1979, the University of Missouri, and Creighton Law School. He had his own law practice in St. Joseph.

Gregg married Mary Frances Neel. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2006.

He was a member of the Missouri and Nebraska Bar Associations, Kappa Sigma social fraternity, Pony Express Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Tribe of Mic-O-Say (where his name was Least Hippo in Hole), and the Moila Shrine.

Gregg was very active and enjoyed participating in scouting and particularly in Mic-O-Say with his son and all of the tribe. He volunteered many hours over the last 40 years to enhance the scouting experience at Camp Gieger.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and father.

Survivors include his son, Chase A. Larson; siblings, Joseph Larson, Jennifer Brooks, and Sarah Larson; several nieces and nephews.

He was born November 18, 1932 in Horton, Kansas, to Louis and Etta Mae (Roberts) Hollars.

Robert married Sarah Jane Smith on October 31, 1981. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2012.

He worked at Farmland Industries for 39 years.

A quiet man who was a little bit ornery, Robert loved fishing and drinking beer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; his parents; and son, Marion Earl Hollars.

Survivors include his children, Zara Young (Mark), Robert Franklin Hollars, Jr., Louis Kennedy Hollars (Annette), and Birdy Lee Prophet (David); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Marie and Lucille.

Heaven got a little brighter (and louder) when Sarah Smiley Burnham, 48, surrounded by family and friends, was welcomed there on October 10, 2024. Now completely healed, her joy and laughter can once again be heard at the greatest celebration of all. In 2016, Sarah was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer - a battle she won. When she was diagnosed a second time with metastatic breast cancer, she valiantly fought courageously to the very end. But Sarah’s story is much more than cancer.

Sarah was born on October 4, 1976, to Beverly and Dennis Smiley in Sioux City, Iowa. As the “surprise” baby of the family, she was a Daddy’s girl from her first breath and was adored and spoiled by everyone, especially her siblings, Suzy and Matt. Sarah graduated from Columbus Catholic High School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1995. There she was a stand-out athlete and nearly broke the three-point record for girls’ basketball in the state of Iowa. After graduation, Sarah attended Washburn University and worked in the banking and mortgage industries.

Sarah married Andy Burnham and moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where they welcomed son Otis and daughter Brecklyn. Sarah’s life revolved around the kids and their activities and wherever she went, she had circles of friends that were drawn to her kindness, vulnerability and honesty. Sarah loved to hunt, have chats on her patio, navigate life with her neighborhood friends and cheer on the Royals and Chiefs. Her dream was to retire in Destin, Florida, where she treasured her time with family at the beach. On the Fourth of July, Sarah was the biggest kid of all and made sure the fireworks show was unforgettable. Her authenticity and warm spirit were evident in her volunteerism, through meal-trains for friends or when she offered a caring space to listen. She attended Brookdale Church for many years and her gentleness drew friends to her wherever she went.

Sarah’s family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the many people that showed their love and support through the years while she fought cancer. From her childhood Iowa friends, to her sports Moms group, to her friends that cared for her in the most beautiful way at the very end — thank you. A special thanks to Amy Wetlaufer who coordinated a private flight home to Iowa one last time so Sarah could say goodbye to her Mom and Dad. James D. “Jim” Rogers, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024.

He was born June 21, 1950, in Marysville, Kansas to Glen and Julia (Miller) Rogers.

He graduated from Holton High School in 1968 and later attended Highland Community College.

He served with the United States National Guard in Kansas for six years.

Jim was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.

He spent 50 years working as a newspaper pressman/foreman, working at Kansas State Collegian, Holton Recorder and later at Manhattan Mercury, where he retired in 2016.

Jim married Susan Ruhnke on September 16, 1972, in Hiawatha, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Jim enjoyed wood working, an interest he inherited from his father. Together they crafted special gifts for family members and also sold these items at craft shows.

He was a model train enthusiast with a collection of model train sets, along with John Deere and other classic tractors and farming equipment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Julia Rogers; brother-in-law, Jerry Bueker; and sister-in-law, Marcia Janzen.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Susan Rogers; sister, Terry Bueker; sister-in-law, Joan (Don) Peterson; brother-in-law, Jim (Marge) Ruhnke; several nieces, nephews, their families and many friends left to cherish his memory.

She worked as a machine operator for Mead, cashier at Midway, and previously worked for many years as a cosmetologist.

Sharon enjoyed woodworking, crafting, crocheting, bowling, and playing pool. She loved her plants and flowers.

Her family remembers her for being the “best cook ever” and enjoying her home cooked meals. She was also a die-hard Zelda fan and loved gaming.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Winifred Corkins; her son, Jonathan Judkins; and her brother, Stanley Corkins.

She was born May 9, 1959 in St. Joseph to Clifford and Leila (Bootman) Frakes. Pamela grew up in Stewartsville, Missouri, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State University.

Pamela married Kenneth Dean Brown on June 30, 1990. He survives of the home.

She was an excellent cook known for her chicken and noodles. She also enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and the Chiefs, and going to estate sales. Fall and winter were her favorite seasons, and Pamela loved decorating for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Above all, Pamela was a great mother, wife, sister, and grandmother to many people. She was passionate about her family and they meant everything to her. She definitely left everyplace she went better off than she found it.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Haley Triggs; and siblings, Delmar, Richard and Jeffery Frakes.

Clarence J. Jacobs, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024.

He was born April 18, 1938, to Myrtle (Jacobs) Nussbaum in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force 1955-1959, and on June 24, 1960, he married his sweetheart Sandra McDowell. Bob retired in 2000 after working for 32 years as a maintenance mechanic for Wire Rope Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Lloyd Nussbaum; his daughter Patricia Lee Jacobs; his grandson Caleb Graham Smith; and his brother Albert L. Jacobs.

Survivors include his wife; daughter Cynthia A. Smith (Tayne) and son Jefferson L. Jacobs; grandsons Jefferson L. Jacobs II (Catherine), Matthew E. Jacobs (Laura), and Tayne A. Clarence J. "Bob" Jacobs 1938 - 2024

William Joe “Bill” Rockey passed away on October 11, 2024, at Good Samaritan Valley Vista in Wamego, KS. Born on December 21, 1944, he was the third child of Oliver Chadleigh and Vinita Frances Sutherland Rockey in Horton, KS.

Bill grew up in Robinson, KS, and graduated from Robinson High School in 1962. He was actively involved in various sports and clubs during his school years.

On November 28, 1964, Bill married Connie Jimeson in Hiawatha, KS. They were excited to celebrate their 60th anniversary this November.

Bill proudly served in the US Army, being honorably discharged in December 1967 after his time with the 7th Army in Germany.

For 37 years, Bill worked for the KS Gas Service. After retiring, he became a talented benchman for several local jewelry stores, crafting custom pieces. He particularly enjoyed making jewelry for his children and grandchildren, creating special items that they will cherish for years to come. His passion for woodworking also shone through in the beautiful wooden pieces he crafted, each reflecting his dedication and creativity.

Bill loved hunting and riding his motorcycle, and he created many wonderful memories with Connie as they traveled all over this beautiful country. In December 2014, they moved to Wamego, KS, to be closer to their kids and enjoy their grandchildren's activities.

A dedicated member of the Bethany United Church of Christ, Bill served on the consistory and helped with various projects. He also volunteered as an assistant troop leader for Boy Scout Troop 313 and was involved with the Mic-O-Say tribe at Camp Geiger in St. Joseph, MO. He was a former president of the Brown County Chapter of Quails Unlimited and was affiliated with the American Legion and the Steel Workers Union. Bill was a hard worker, a talented craftsman, and a devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; son Shane; daughter Shannon and her husband, Michael Leitch; and grandchildren Darby, MaryKate, and Quinn Leitch, all of Wamego. He is also survived by his siblings: Vinita Thonen, David (Vicki) Rockey, John (Renee) Rockey, Virginia (James) Collins, and Nancy (Gary) Oswald, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be remembered by his brothers-in-law Sam Jimeson and Phil Schaider, and his sister-in-law Merrie Jimeson.

A celebration of Bill’s eternal life is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 19, at the Bethany United Church of Christ in Hiawatha with Shane Spangler officiating. The family will visit with friends in fellowship hall following the service.

Military honors will be a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

William Joe “Bill” Rockey passed away on October 11, 2024, at Good Samaritan Valley Vista in Wamego, KS. Born on December 21, 1944, he was the third child of Oliver Chadleigh and Vinita Frances Sutherland Rockey in Horton, KS.Bill grew up in Robinson, KS, and graduated from Robinson High School in 1962. He was actively involved in various sports and clubs during his school years.On November 28, 1964, Bill married Connie Jimeson in Hiawatha, KS. They were excited to celebrate their 60th anniversary this November.Bill proudly served in the US Army, being honorably discharged in December 1967 after his time with the 7th Army in Germany.For 37 years, Bill worked for the KS Gas Service. After retiring, he became a talented benchman for several local jewelry stores, crafting custom pieces. He particularly enjoyed making jewelry for his children and grandchildren, creating special items that they will cherish for years to come. His passion for woodworking also shone through in the beautiful wooden pieces he crafted, each reflecting his dedication and creativity.Bill loved hunting and riding his motorcycle, and he created many wonderful memories with Connie as they traveled all over this beautiful country. In December 2014, they moved to Wamego, KS, to be closer to their kids and enjoy their grandchildren's activities.A dedicated member of the Bethany United Church of Christ, Bill served on the consistory and helped with various projects. He also volunteered as an assistant troop leader for Boy Scout Troop 313 and was involved with the Mic-O-Say tribe at Camp Geiger in St. Joseph, MO. He was a former president of the Brown County Chapter of Quails Unlimited and was affiliated with the American Legion and the Steel Workers Union. William J. "Bill" Rockey 1944 - 2024

Velma “June” Swan (1932-2024) will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as being a Godly woman, having a servant’s heart, being a great organizer, tireless worker, and always putting her family first. She passed on October 10th, 2024, surrounded by family in Springfield, MO where she was living with her daughter.

After the death of her mother when she was three years old, June was raised by her loving grandparents on their farm which created memories that stayed with her even when others faded away. While living with her grandparents who raised her in a faith-filled home, June accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at age twelve. Her faith continued to grow, and it was a guiding and important part of her life. June joined Winnwood Baptist Church in 1968 and was active in the church until moving away in 2018. She served in many capacities including teaching Sunday School and VBS, singing in the choir, singing in nursing homes, going on mission trips, sewing children’s clothes for foreign missions, driving the bus for youth trips, and serving in the roles of treasurer and librarian. She was also active in the community and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and at local non-profit thrift stores, which she continued to do until a few weeks before her death.

When June was nineteen years old, she went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Jerry Swan. They were married in 1951 shortly before he went to serve his country in the Korean war. Upon his return they settled into domestic life in Kansas City, buying a home and starting a family. June worked in the accounting and clerical fields with companies such as Farmland Industries, Commerce Bank, and her last and favorite employer, Park College in Parkville, Missouri. After raising their four children and retiring, they bought an RV and began traveling. They both enjoyed this activity immensely and June continued this on her own after Jerry passed on in 1995.

As well as traveling and volunteering, she enjoyed going to her children and grandchildren’s concerts and sporting events, playing softball on a team with her daughter and daughter-in-law, gardening, sewing, walking, crafting and making toys for the grandchildren with Jerry in his wood-working shop, reading, and working jigsaw puzzles.

June is survived by her children: Jeff Swan (Nancy), Jim Swan (Jane), Jeanette Tedeschi (Steve), and Jason Swan (Tabetha); grandsons: Jared Swan, Joshua Swan, and Anthony Tedeschi; brother Rollie Baldwin, and sister Lillie Ann Flora. She was predeceased by her husband of forty-four years, Jerry Swan.

At June’s request a private family service will be held.

Mae Barnett, 95, of Gower, MO passed away, October 12, 2024.

She was born on September 5, 1929 to Thomas LeRoy and Bessie Mae (Tyer) Genson in Starfield, MO. Mae grew up in Starfield, MO and graduated from Plattsburg High School.

On June 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to Edward Franklin Barnett. After their marriage they lived in Clinton County where they made their home. Her husband, Eddie, preceded her in death on September 17, 2008.

Mae worked as a dietician at the Gower Convalescent Center for 22 years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joyce Allen; son-in-law, Almus Allen; great-granddaughter, Lillyann; sisters, Louise Wattenbarger, Maxine Genson, and Anna Lee Orr; and brother, Donald Genson.

Mae is survived by her children, Diana (Bob) Vasut and Kevin (Michele) Barnett; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Megan) Vasut, Eric (Sara) Vasut, Colton (Elizebeth) Vasut, Zac (Barbara) Allen, Annie Allen, Ethan (Hallie) Barnett and Tyler (Kelli) Barnett; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Genson; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Kevin Lee Brant 61, of St. Joseph, MO., passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at his home. He was born July 4, 1963 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Patricia and William F. Brant. 

He attended Lafayette High School. Kevin was a carpenter all his life, and enjoyed his dog Otis. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved his scratcher tickets. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William "Bill" Brant, nephews, David Patterson, and Christian Lee. 

Survivors include a son, Steven Fitzpatrick of TX, grandson, Kade Hixon who was the apple of his eye, daughter, Toni Hixon (Brian Hodges), son, Dustin Chaney, grandsons, Hunter Chaney and Koda Hodges, sisters, Becky Snyder, Bev Jacobs, and Tracy Brant, brothers, Mark Brant, Robert (Pam) Brant, Christopher (Tina) Brant, and Curtis Clark as well as numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Terri Lynn Mace Meade 68, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at her home. She was born September 29, 1956 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of Barbara Hayes Mace Wood and Rolland Leon "Bill" Mace. 

She attended Benton High School, and worked at several convenience stores including the Tank and Tummy near Dearborn, MO. Terri loved spending time with her great granddaughter, crafting, and making special treats. 

Terri was preceded in death by husband, Steven Meade, her father, Rolland Leon Mace, paternal grandparents, Homer &amp; Lorene Mace, and maternal grandparents, Harry &amp; Virginia LaBouff.

 Survivors include; mother Barbara, son, Courtney Townsend, three grandchildren: Joseph Townsend, Jessalyn Townsend, and Colten Townsend, great granddaughter Octavia Townsend, brother, Rolland "Rusty" Mace, and a sister, Virginia Jenny (Darrell) Schildknecht.&nbsp;

Shawnetta Rice 39, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in St. Joseph. She was born October 23, 1984 in Topeka, KS, daughter of Sue Warren and Samuel Hutchinson. 

She graduated from Lees Summit North High School in 2003. Shawnetta was very spiritual, loved being outdoors, spending time with her dogs, and most of all being a mom.

Joan Elizabeth (Christman) Giles, 82, passed away peacefully in the presence of family October 12, 2024. She was born November 22, 1941, to Leo and Emma (Thompson) Christman, one of five children, and grew up in Saint Joseph. &nbsp;

In 1959 she graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart. &nbsp;On April 23, 1960, she married William Orville Giles, a graduate of Christian Brothers, and her husband of 64 years. A few years after marrying, she and Bill moved to a farm near Clarksdale. Joan acclimated to farm life and loved raising her four children in the small country community. Once her children were mostly raised, she started a career and found she had a talent for sales. &nbsp;

She adored her eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Joan loved their visits, and always had fun activities planned when they were together. She craved learning new things, was an avid reader, loved all dogs, and cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Joan was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Michael Giles, her parents, and brothers John and Frank Christman.

She is survived by family including &nbsp;husband William “Bill” Giles; children David Giles of Ashland, MO, Dina (Stanley) Giles of Minneapolis, KS, and Tracy (John) Bennett and Shannon (Shawna) Giles of St. Joseph; grandchildren Emma Giles, Lucy (Trenton) Kuhlman, Jake Giles, Sam Giles, Alexandra Giles, Caroline (Logan) Horning, Sadie Giles and Chloe Giles; great grandson Steffan Jeffrey Kuhlman; sisters Patricia (Jim) Ankrom and Nancy (Dave) Farrow; and &nbsp;many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Heaven got a little brighter (and louder) when Sarah Smiley Burnham, 48, surrounded by family and friends, was welcomed there on October 10, 2024. Now completely healed, her joy and laughter can once again be heard at the greatest celebration of all. In 2016, Sarah was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer - a battle she won. When she was diagnosed a second time with metastatic breast cancer, she valiantly fought courageously to the very end. But Sarah’s story is much more than cancer.Sarah was born on October 4, 1976, to Beverly and Dennis Smiley in Sioux City, Iowa. As the “surprise” baby of the family, she was a Daddy’s girl from her first breath and was adored and spoiled by everyone, especially her siblings, Suzy and Matt. Sarah graduated from Columbus Catholic High School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1995. There she was a stand-out athlete and nearly broke the three-point record for girls’ basketball in the state of Iowa. After graduation, Sarah attended Washburn University and worked in the banking and mortgage industries.Sarah married Andy Burnham and moved to St. Joseph, Mo., where they welcomed son Otis and daughter Brecklyn. Sarah’s life revolved around the kids and their activities and wherever she went, she had circles of friends that were drawn to her kindness, vulnerability and honesty. Sarah loved to hunt, have chats on her patio, navigate life with her neighborhood friends and cheer on the Royals and Chiefs. Her dream was to retire in Destin, Florida, where she treasured her time with family at the beach. On the Fourth of July, Sarah was the biggest kid of all and made sure the fireworks show was unforgettable. Her authenticity and warm spirit were evident in her volunteerism, through meal-trains for friends or when she offered a caring space to listen. She attended Brookdale Church for many years and her gentleness drew friends to her wherever she went.Sarah’s family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to the many people that showed their love and support through the years while she fought cancer. From her childhood Iowa friends, to her sports Moms group, to her friends that cared for her in the most beautiful way at the very end — thank you. He was born September 24, 1970, to Carl and Betty (Johnson) Strathman in Atchison, Kansas. He graduated from Atchison High School, and later earned his certification in welding.

Thomas worked as a welder at Snorkel for many years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison for many years.

Thomas had a passion for classic rock music, trucks, and riding motorcycles with his friends. He was known for being the life of the party and enjoying an ice-cold Budweiser.

He had a heart of gold and was willing to help anyone whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty Strathman, and his sister, Karen Keil.

Shane Doyle DeWald, 51, of Trimble, MO passed away October 10, 2024.

He was born on February 22, 1973, to Stephen and Patricia Elaine (Eickhoff) DeWald in Kansas City, KS. Shane attended Winnetonka High School and Princeton High School.

On September 22, 2001, he was united in marriage to Jennifer Lynn Kidd. After their marriage they lived in Trimble where they made their home.

He worked for Wiese USA in St. Joseph, MO. Shane enjoyed hunting, fishing and smoking meat. He loved “tormenting” his nieces and nephews and any other family member he could. Shane had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. His daughter Casey was the pride of joy of his life. Shane was an amazing friend, son, brother, uncle, dad and husband who will be dearly missed.

Shane was preceded in death by his mother Pat Bardwell; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife Jenn DeWald; his son Kristopher Speck; his daughter Casey DeWald; his dad Stephen (Shilah McIntire) DeWald; brother Shawn (Melissa) DeWald; sister Erica (Shane) Waldron; mother-in-law and father-in-law Denise and David Steiner; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Steven Kent Andre, age 73, of Atchison, KS, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.&nbsp;

Steve was born on August 5, 1951, in St. Joseph, MO, the son of the late John Harold Andre and Donna Jane (Witty) Andre. He attended public schools in Atchison, graduating from Atchison High School.&nbsp;

Steve and the former Marilyn Miner were united in marriage on December 11, 1970, at the Denton United Methodist Church, sharing nearly fifty-four years of marriage.&nbsp;

He served his country in the United States Army from April 28, 1971, until his honorable discharge on October 6, 1972. He retired from Whiteman AFB as the Print Shop Manager, but by far his most rewarding job was his time as an EMT and working the Ambulance Service with his dad, John. He enjoyed time with family and especially attending his grandchildren’s many events and cheering them on. Some of his favorite pastimes were duck hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Andre; his two daughters, Stacey (Tim) Bell; Tonya (Jody Servaes) Andre; three brothers, Todd (Debbie) Andre, Mike (Pam) Andre, Bill (Shelly) Andre; his four greatest joys, his grandchildren, Paige (Gavin) Trexler, McKenzi Bell, Skylar Bell, Landen Bell; and his two great grandchildren, Wrenley Rae Trexler and Whitten Kent Trexler.&nbsp;

Steve’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. A reception will be held at Wrens Events, 716 Commercial St, after the service. Steve will be laid to rest in the Cummings Cemetery. Daniel Ray Messick, 68, of Fillmore, MO passed away at his home on Monday, October 7th, 2024. He was born June 29th, 1956 to Forrest &amp; Alma (Hughes) Messick. &nbsp;

Danny enjoyed the great outdoors, he always found the calm and stillness of nature soothing. When he was outdoors he did many things, cutting wood, starting fires, and sowing his gardens. Danny loved a fresh homegrown tomato. Danny was a man who liked to work with his hands, and fix things himself. He worked on a great many things, be it his cars, his home or his bikes. He had an appreciation for vehicles, most prominently motor-cycles and dirt bikes. He also really liked firearms, both collecting and shooting. He valued fairness, and he valued honesty. Barbara was born June 7, 1944 in Saint Joseph, Missouri to her parents Donald Lloyd Allen, Sr. and Lillian Ruth (Yarger) Allen. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1962. Barbara enjoyed her employment of several years at Miller Casket Company. She later was employed and retired from Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center.

Barbara was best known by her friends and family for being a prankster and jokester. Bringing joy and a smile to people's faces with her quick wit is what she loved to do most.

Nathleen "Cissy" Bailey 1962 - 2024

Roger Blair Hinderks was called home on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024. He was 89. Roger was born on November 26th, 1934 to Everett “Blair” Hinderks and Mary (Grey) Hinderks in St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1940 the family moved to California but moved back to Missouri in 1942 and back to California in 1943. In 1945 Blair and Mary move back to Stewartsville with their now 3 children: Roger, Sonja and Karla. Roger attended school in Stewartsville until the family moved to Amity and Roger finished his education at Maysville High School graduating on May 18th, 1953. While at Maysville High, Roger was a member of the “Racehorse Five” which was the 1953 basketball team that played in the Class B State Tournament.

On April 17th, 1954 Roger married the love of his life, Margaret Lucinda Troxel at Bethel Church in Weatherby. After marriage they moved to a home on Roger’s parents farm until Roger began his time in the Naval Reserves and the newlyweds moved to Olathe, Kansas and lived on Navy Hill. Roger was called to active duty in 1955 and was stationed at the Olathe, Kansas Naval Air Station. While on active duty Roger would go on 2 week cruises. He went to Morocco, Africa, Barcelona, Spain, London, England, as well as Los Alamedas NAS in California. Roger always brought back&nbsp;&nbsp;wonderful souvenirs to Margaret. Her favorite was a camel saddle. Roger’s time in the Navy ended in 1958 with an honorable discharge. The couple returned to Amity and Roger worked on his parent’s farm. They also purchased acreage in the Wood Community.

In October of 1965 Roger was hired by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Commercial Division and worked at the weight station on Highway 36 until 1992 when he retired. The entire time Roger worked for the Highway Patrol he was also running a farm with a herd of cattle.

On December 17, 1965 Roger and Margaret welcomed their first daughter Rachel Beth. Roger brought Margaret and Rachel home on Christmas Eve which was a cold snowy night. On April 10th, 1969 they welcomed another daughter Amy Michelle.

In 1967 Roger and Margaret built a home on their acreage and Roger ran his herd of cattle on the farm until 2011 when he had a hip replacement and sold the herd. It was a sad day. Roger was very proud of his cattle. Roger and Margaret stayed on their beloved farm until they sold it in September of 2022.

Roger is survived by his wife Margaret, sister Karla Reynolds, daughter Rachel Fritz, daughter Amy Byfield (Mike), grandchildren Hannah and Hunter Fritz and Carter and Duke Byfield, nephews Mike Danner (Sonja), Jeff Reynolds (Karla) and Niece Debbie Danner (Sonja).&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents Blair and Mary Hinderks, sister Sonja Danner (Jack), brother-in-law John Reynolds (Karla) and nephew Brad Reynolds (Karla).

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Turner Family Funeral Home in Maysville. Burial will be immediately after at Maple Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Roger Blair Hinderks was called home on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024. He was 89. Roger was born on November 26th, 1934 to Everett “Blair” Hinderks and Mary (Grey) Hinderks in St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1940 the family moved to California but moved back to Missouri in 1942 and back to California in 1943. In 1945 Blair and Mary move back to Stewartsville with their now 3 children: Roger, Sonja and Karla. Roger attended school in Stewartsville until the family moved to Amity and Roger finished his education at Maysville High School graduating on May 18th, 1953. While at Maysville High, Roger was a member of the “Racehorse Five” which was the 1953 basketball team that played in the Class B State Tournament.On April 17th, 1954 Roger married the love of his life, Margaret Lucinda Troxel at Bethel Church in Weatherby. After marriage they moved to a home on Roger’s parents farm until Roger began his time in the Naval Reserves and the newlyweds moved to Olathe, Kansas and lived on Navy Hill. Roger was called to active duty in 1955 and was stationed at the Olathe, Kansas Naval Air Station. While on active duty Roger would go on 2 week cruises.
