He was born October 11, 1941 to William D. and Nedra E. (Taylor) McCurley in Peoria, Illinois.

Mike enriched the lives around him with a career that spanned over two decades as a store manager at Woolworths, followed by a tenure in retail that demonstrated his profound understanding of the industry. He brought the same passion and expertise to Ag Processing, where he excelled as a lab technician before embarking on a new adventure with Mike's Landscaping after his retirement.

His love for flowers and landscaping was evident in the beauty he created and the green thumb he was known for. His commitment to faith was also strong, as a devoted member of the Riverside Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jerry and William J. McCurley; nieces, Amy Darwent, Jody McCurley, and Kristin McCurley.

Survivors include his children, Dawn McCurley, Devi Harper, Doug McCurley, and Dina Daily; several grandchildren; brothers, Gregory McCurley (Connie) and George McCurley; sister-in-law, Paula McCurley; nieces, Karie, Cindy, Diane, and Renata; nephews, Andy, Billy, Matt, Mark, and Ben; numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Roy Conner, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025.

He was born May 17, 1932 in Van Buren, Missouri, to Benjamin and Mary (Sears) Conner.

Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

On June 13, 1959, Roy married Darlene Harper. She survives of the home.

He owned and operated RC Air Conditioning for many years, then Roy’s AC Service, retiring after 50 years in the business. He also was a former member of the St. Joseph Homebuilders Association.

Roy and Darlene loved to go camping and travel, especially their annual trip to Florida for the winter.

He enjoyed spending time with family, including deer hunting and riding quad-running trails.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Conner; granddaughter, Alicia Conner; son-in-law, Leonard Shewmaker; and siblings, Lucille Huett, Luther Conner, Raymond Conner, Bob Conner, Velma Moran, Effie McKee, and Charles Conner.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Darlene; children, Rodney Conner, Sandy Howell (Mark), Teresa Tupica (Mark), and Meloney Shewmaker; daughter from a previous marriage, Linda Tworek; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Griggs; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

He was born on June 1, 1951 to Kern Larue and Blanche Irene (Cross) Pettit in Kirksville, Missouri.

Rickey loved reading Westerns, particularly the works of Louis L'Amour and Dean Koontz. He found joy in the simple pleasures of cooking, playing card games, and the thrill of racing antique cars. His organized nature was a cornerstone of his character, just as his role as a man of God guided his path.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Amanda Stewart, and his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Rickey's memory will be treasured and kept alive by his son, Samuel Pettit, and daughters, Regina Craig and Brenda Solomon, as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

Frank Montemayor, Sr., 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025.

He was born November 11, 1941 to Blas and Hope (Ventanzur) Montemayor in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He married Ramona C. Guthrie on June 10, 1990.

Frank dedicated over 25 years of his life to ensuring public health and safety as a USDA Meat Inspector.

Frank's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. A devout parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe, his faith was a guiding light throughout his life.

An avid sports fan, Frank's spirit soared alongside the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Survivors include his son, Frank Montemayor, Jr. (Eva); brother, Paul Montemayor (Denise); sister, Martha Meng; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

James “Jim” Craig Long, went on his final adventure April 24, 2025 after a long battle with Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy.

Jim was the child of Roy and Ada “Peggy” Long of Webb City, Missouri. He was born on Thursday, November 23, 1944. He graduated from Webb City, Missouri High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in social work from Pittsburgh University in Pittsburgh, Kansas.

Jim married Rebecca Stiefel on September 17, 1988 in Kansas City, Missouri, who survives of the home. In 1990, Jim and Becki moved to St. Joseph, Missouri to start their new business venture.

Jim was a dedicated and compassionate father to his two daughters, Kellie Long-Wiedmaier (Bruce) of Topeka, Kansas and Heidi Long – Eggers (David) of St. Joseph, Missouri.

He was the fun and advantageous Papa Jim to his two grandchildren Lane and Olivia Eggers. Their many memories can never be taken away and will always make them smile and laugh.

Mr. Long Lighting or The Lighting God, known by some, opened Long Lighting Center in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1990 with Becki. His unsurmountable expertise and insistence on providing the best experience to all their clients is why Jim is known as “one of the best in the business”.

A most extraordinary man, turned by love into our hero. He was a trailblazer and loved to travel anywhere in the world. The beach in Mazatlan, Mexico will always be his second home where he made wonderful friendships to fill his heart. He was a phenomenal teacher and treasured dreaming about how life would be if we won the lottery.

Eugene Bertin Felling, age 89, passed away unexpectedly in his home on April 24, 2025, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Gene, as he was affectionately known, was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was active in the addiction and recovery community for over 47 years. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of his family, friends, co-workers, and clients. He lived his life fully, and had a profound impact on those who had the pleasure to know him.

He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife Margaret, his parents Louie and Laura Felling, siblings Marie, Susan, Jimmy and Tony, grandson Brandon and son-in-law Al.

Gene is survived by his children Ange, Edward, Greg, Amy (Gary) and Pawel, and grandchildren Zachary (Anel), Justin, Christopher, Jody, Joshua (Amber), and Adam, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on September 29, 1935 and lived most of his life there. He attended Christian Brothers High School, St. Joseph Junior College, R&amp;R Newkirk, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Missouri Western State College.

He was employed at Burlington Northern Railroad before going to work for the United Transportation Union Insurance Association. Upon “retirement”, he changed career paths and became a chaplain at Valley Hope in Atchison, Kansas. He then worked for John Sutherland Counseling. John was his first counselor at Eppley Treatment facility where he began his sobriety. He was working for the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council, as well as private probation in St. Joseph, doing counseling and SATOP programming when he passed.

His family will remember him for his humor, runny eggs, two dollar bills, and annual trips to see “A Christmas Carol” at the Kansas City Rep.

Shirley Ellen Sklenar, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away April 23rd, 2025. She was born April 4, 1936 in Union Star, Missouri to James and Nellie Opal (Munshaw) Shiverdecker.

Shirley was described by both family and close friends as being kind, caring, sincere, loving, giving, and fun-loving. Her nieces, nephew, cousins, children, son-in-law, and granddaughter all have fond memories of Shirley through various activities and events. Although she faced many hardships in life, she was known by those close to her as persisting through those events with an unfailing positive outlook. Shirley actively attended Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church always looking forward each week to participating in Sunday School and Worship Service. Shirley was a blessing to her family and friends as she always kept them in prayer. Through the years, Shirley was employed in various public service positions and was known for her cheerful, friendly nature. She truly did not know a stranger and enjoyed visiting with others. This attribute continued into her later years in the care facility where she was well-known as being a caring person who connected with others. This concern for others endeared her to many. Shirley's departure will leave an empty spot in many lives.

She was born on March 21, 1938 to Frederick James and Margaret (Hunt) Rimmell in Muskegon, Michigan.

After graduating from high school she worked for several years as a welder for Livingstons Industrial.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Harry Emler.

Survivors include her daughters Gayle Gradillas &amp; Debra Simpson and her sons Garry Everett and Butch Everett and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all those that got to know her.

Phyllis Emler March 21, 1938-April 22, 2025

Lifelong Leavenworth resident, Patrick "Pat" Craig Vossmer, age 57, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in a tragic auto accident. Born on April 29, 1967, at St. John's Hospital in his beloved hometown to John V. and Dolores (Aaron) Vossmer, Pat was a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.

Pat's roots in Leavenworth ran deep. He received his early education in the local Catholic school system, attending St. Joseph and Xavier before graduating with the Immaculata High School Class of 1985. His athletic talents were evident early on, as he enthusiastically participated in a variety of sports throughout his school years, including baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling. He achieved significant success in football and wrestling, proudly representing his schools with multiple appearances at the state tournament. The foundation for his strong work ethic was laid during his teenage years spent working alongside his Uncle Mark Aaron on the family farm, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. In recent years, he could often be found back at the farm, tending to his large garden and tackling various projects with characteristic energy.

Pat's professional life took him to various parts of the country within the waste management industry. He began his career with Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) in Kansas City, Kansas, later moving to Sandusky, Ohio, to work alongside his brother Dave at BFI. His career continued to flourish with Republic Services in Asheville, North Carolina, followed by a role managing a landfill for Waste Connections in Avenal, California. He then served as General Manager at American Environmental Landfill in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and subsequently ran a landfill for Advanced Disposal in Detroit, Michigan. Despite his travels for work, Pat always maintained his strong ties to Leavenworth. His commitment to the communities where he lived was evident in the numerous honors and accolades he received for his dedicated volunteer work.

In his leisure time, Pat enjoyed connecting with nature through bird hunting, mushroom hunting, and fishing. He also had a passion for cooking, delighting in preparing a wide range of dishes, especially those with a fiery flavor.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dolores Vossmer, and his niece, Grace Vossmer. He is survived by his loving sister and five brothers: Mark John (Melissa) Vossmer, Joseph (Leslie) Vossmer, David (Jewel) Vossmer, Michael (Laurie) Vossmer, Agnes Vossmer, and Greg (Jeanna) Vossmer.

Pat's warm spirit, his willingness to help others, and his love for his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Lifelong Leavenworth resident, Patrick "Pat" Craig Vossmer, age 57, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in a tragic auto accident. Born on April 29, 1967, at St. John's Hospital in his beloved hometown to John V. and Dolores (Aaron) Vossmer, Pat was a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.Pat's roots in Leavenworth ran deep. He received his early education in the local Catholic school system, attending St. Joseph and Xavier before graduating with the Immaculata High School Class of 1985. His athletic talents were evident early on, as he enthusiastically participated in a variety of sports throughout his school years, including baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling. He achieved significant success in football and wrestling, proudly representing his schools with multiple appearances at the state tournament. The foundation for his strong work ethic was laid during his teenage years spent working alongside his Uncle Mark Aaron on the family farm, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. In recent years, he could often be found back at the farm, tending to his large garden and tackling various projects with characteristic energy.Pat's professional life took him to various parts of the country within the waste management industry. He began his career with Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) in Kansas City, Kansas, later moving to Sandusky, Ohio, to work alongside his brother Dave at BFI. His career continued to flourish with Republic Services in Asheville, North Carolina, followed by a role managing a landfill for Waste Connections in Avenal, California. He then served as General Manager at American Environmental Landfill in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and subsequently ran a landfill for Advanced Disposal in Detroit, Michigan. Despite his travels for work, Pat always maintained his strong ties to Leavenworth. Lynn was born on January 8, 1962 in Hiawatha, KS, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Brook) Gilbert. She was one of 6 siblings in her family. Lynn graduated from Horton High School in 1980. She was married to the love of her life David Rodvelt on July 19, 1980 and they lived in Brown County. Lynn worked locally her whole life in various places including NEK CAP, Horton Headlight, Bank of Horton, Horton Hospital, Brown County Courthouse, NEK Agency on Aging, Hemisphere GPS, Native American Family Services, and Little Hands.

Lynn loved to travel, especially to a tropical beachy location. Lynn and her husband recently took a trip to Niagara Falls. She spent her time crocheting blankets for her kids and grandkids. Lynn was always doing a craft project and baking delicious goodies with her grandkids. The most enjoyable moments for Lynn was when she was with her kids and grandkids.

Nina Lee (Elder) George was born on September 15, 1933 in Oregon, Missouri, one of five children of Doyle M. and Mozelle (Milburn) Elder. She passed from this life on April 25, 2025 at the age of 91 while a resident of the Oregon Care Center.

A lifelong resident of the Oregon community, Nina married her classmate, Otis "Otie" George, on July 8, 1953. They were married for 62 years until Otie passed away in 2015. Together, they raised one son, Michael Eugene.

Nina participated in many aspects of the Oregon community throughout her life. She worked at South Holt R-I for 46 years. Due to her work in the field of education, she was listed as '20 Who Count' in the St. Joseph News-Press. She was also named as a 'Missouri Outstanding Older Worker.' Nina greatly enjoyed interacting with children and educators alike in the South Holt community.

Additionally, Nina volunteered with the Oregon Care Center, Help the Homeless of Northwest Missouri, the Holt County Cancer Fund, and served on the Oregon Public Library board, among many other community roles. She greatly enjoyed her role as a homemaker, farmer's wife, and mother.

Nina is survived by her son Michael (Beverly) George, two granddaughters and their families, including three great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephew, and friends.&nbsp;

Nina's family would like to extend deep appreciation to the Oregon Care Center, and to Mosaic Hospice for&nbsp;their kindness and compassion.

The family will have a private inurnment. Memorials can be made to Maple Grove Cemetery Maintenance fund, the South Holt Elementary Coat Fund, a scholarship to a graduating South Holt R-I senior, or any other charity of one's choice.

Keith Gilbert Jestes, age 81, passed away peacefully at his Maysville home on April 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and his loyal dog Tippy.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on January 25, 1944, in Fairport, Missouri, to Gilbert Francis and Evelyn May Jestes. Keith’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, community, and family devotion.

Keith was a proud graduate of Maysville High School Class of 1962&nbsp;and served honorably in the Army National Guard for 6 years. On September 3, 1966, he married Sharon Ann (Brent), in their hometown, embarking on a journey of 58 years filled with love and partnership.

Keith’s dedication to his community was shown as he managed the Maysville R-l School District buses for 27 years and served on various boards, including the Fairport and Maysville School Boards, and the Fairport Cemetery Board.&nbsp;&nbsp;His life as a farmer was not just a profession but a passion.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Halter; nephew, Doug Halter.

Danny Lawson, 67, of Gower, MO passed away April 26, 2025.

He was born on November 21, 1957 to Gordon “Pop” and Joan (Winans) Lawson in St. Joseph, MO. Danny grew up in Gower and graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1976.

On June 12, 1976 he was united in marriage to Debbie Greer. After their marriage they lived in Gower where they made their home.

Danny worked for Johnson Controls and retired after 40 years. He was a member of the Gower Christian Church. Danny served on the Gower Fire Department and coached girls softball for many years. He was a lifelong fan of the Royals, the Chiefs, MU and the East Buchanan Bulldogs. Most of all, Danny enjoyed following his grandson Austin’s activities. He loved hosting their annual 4th of July celebration.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Debra Musser; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard Musser, Danny Cavin and Judy Greer.

Danny is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughters, Carmen Inman and Rhonda Lawson; grandson, Austin; sister-in-law, Linda Cavin; brother-in-law, Gary Greer; nieces and nephews, Rachael (Paul) Smith, David Cavin, Sherri (Jason) Cavin, Gary D. She was born on February 22, 1920 in Smithville, MO to Willis Lee and Cora (Asher) Vance. She was the youngest of their two daughters. She graduated from Smithville High School, class of 1938.

She was married on August 14, 1940 to Joe Bill Nash. Two children were born to them; a son, Gary Nash, who died December 30, 1956 at the age of 15, and a daughter, Jo Karen (Nash) Brown.

She was a lifelong resident of Clay and Platte Counties. She was blessed to have had 70 years and 9 months of wonderful marriage to the love of her life, Joe Bill, until his death on May 4, 2011.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Platte City; a 70 year plus member and past Matron of the Daisy Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; member of the Platte City Study Club, the Platte County Historical Society; member and past Regent of the Platte Purchase Chapter, DAR; and a past member of the Leavenworth Country Club and Leavenworth Country Club Ladies Golf Association. She was happiest caring for her home and family, loved all aspects of sewing and needlework, even tailoring jackets at the age of 94. She enjoyed golf and bowling as long as she was able.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Emma Lee Morgan (age 103) and son, Gary.

She is survived by her daughter, Jo Karen Brown, her “favorite” son-in-law, William Brown; three grandsons and their wives, Gary Graham and Cathy Brown, William Perry and Amy Brown, and Kenneth Nash and Heather Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cameron, Ben, Kate, Kenadi, Nash, and Jude Brown; one niece, Betty Morgan; two nephews, Bill Morgan and John Morgan.

David Ray Pyles Jr., 56, of DeKalb, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his home. He was born February 9, 1969 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Carlene and David &nbsp;Pyles Sr. He attended DeKalb High School. &nbsp;David worked at Blue Scope as a Stradle Carrier. He enjoyed jug fishing, mushroom hunting, riding dirt bikes, fixing up old cars, spending times with his boys and his family. He was a member of the DeKalb Christian Church.

David was preceded in death by mother, Carlene Jolly. Survivors include wife, Megen J. David Ray Pyles Jr., 56, of DeKalb, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his home. He was born February 9, 1969 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Carlene and David &nbsp;Pyles Sr. He attended DeKalb High School. &nbsp;David worked at Blue Scope as a Stradle Carrier. He enjoyed jug fishing, mushroom hunting, riding dirt bikes, fixing up old cars, spending times with his boys and his family. He was a member of the DeKalb Christian Church.David was preceded in death by mother, Carlene Jolly. Survivors include wife, Megen J. David Ray Pyles February 9, 1969-April 26, 2025

Margie Mary Roseberry passed away on April 25, 2025 at her home surrounded by family, a year after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. &nbsp;Margie was born on July 22, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri, daughter of Louise and Dewey Meade. She was fortunate to grow up with a built-in best friend, her sister, Frances Henson.&nbsp;Margie graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School in 1967.

On September 26, 1970, she married Clint Roseberry. Clint’s military career took them to Michigan, Belgium, Texas, Panama, and Maryland. While in Belgium, Margie and Clint welcomed two adored children, Jackie and Todd. Margie loved military life and the adventures that it brought her family. While in Maryland, Margie worked for Defense Investigative Services. Once the family returned to Missouri, Margie worked at Varco Pruden, and then at Farmland.

Margie’s love in life was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Kibler; three treasured grandchildren, Maddie and Mallory Kibler, and Noah Roseberry; sister, Frances Henson; daughter-in-law, Annie Coy Roseberry; friends of the heart, Denise Debrick and Terri Townsend; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Roseberry; son, Todd Roseberry; parents; parents-in-law, Lorena and Virgil Roseberry; and her brother-in-law, Gene Henson.

Margie leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, service to others, a love of learning, a witty sense of humor, a love of 1950’s rock and roll music, gathering with family and friends, enjoying nature, packing the best snacks on road trips, creating the most fun Christmas stockings, sharing a table pancake at breakfast, and keeping everyone organized.

Willis Clark Griggs, Jr., 89, of St. Joseph, passed away April 27, 2025. &nbsp;Willis was born November 27, 1935 in St. Joseph to Willis "Clark", Sr. and Agnes (Pugh) Griggs.

Willis was a 1954 graduate of Lafayette High School. &nbsp;He served for over 20 years in the Missouri National Guard in the Signal Corp. &nbsp;He worked for KFEQ in sales. &nbsp;He then worked at Krause Mill working his way up to management, and retired as a Maintenance Master Electrician for Prime Tanning.

He married Norma Westfall and she preceded him in death. &nbsp;Also preceding him in death were his parents, son Rodney Griggs, daughter Lesa Myer, brother Jerry Griggs, step-daughter Marcia Velazquez, and grandson Benjamin Velazquez.

Survivors include son-in-law Todd Myer; son-in-law Randy Velazquez, step-children, Kay Phillippe (Jim), Mark Smith (Mary), nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moila Shrine. &nbsp;He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, and the Kansas City Chiefs. &nbsp;His biggest love was his dog Max and he let everyone know about him.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, April 30, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. &nbsp;Services will be Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with interment to follow at Savannah Cemetery.&nbsp;

Ordell P. Akre, 85, St. Joseph, MO. passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025 in Saint Joseph, MO. Ordell was born August 21, 1939 to Palmer and Ethel (Iverson) Akre in Clarkfield, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church, Boyd, Minnesota. He graduated from Boyd High School, Boyd, MN.

On September 18, 1959 he married LaVonda Winge in Dawson, MN. To this union four children were born. They were later divorced in 1976. On July 1,1979 he married Glenyce (Kompelien) Lewis in Cottonwood, MN. She preceded him in death in 1998. On April 3, 2000 Ordell married Betty (Crawford) Lynne in Flandreau, S.D.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ordell served in the U.S. Navy for four years. &nbsp;He was active in the American Legion in Clarkfield &amp; moved his membership to American Legion Post 359 in St. Joseph, MO. &nbsp;

He was a barber in Clarkfield, MN for 35 years. He retired and moved to St. Joseph, MO. He enjoyed time with his family, fishing, boating, golfing &amp; playing any card games.&nbsp;

He never met a stranger and was always there to help anyone that needed something. His personality will never be forgotten by family &amp; friends. He lived life to its fullest.&nbsp;

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his two children, Brian (Ruth) Akre, Hillman, MN., Vicki (Sean) Mosher, Blaine, MN., three step children, Jeff (Vicky) Lewis,Granite Falls, MN., &nbsp;Todd Lewis (Candy), Andover, MN., and Nona (Mark) Wallert, LaPorte, MN. He is survived by 11 grandchildren 8 step grandchildren &amp; 28 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Carol Kompelien &amp; brother-in-law Rube (Michelle) Kompelien.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters, Tammy Rice &amp; Tiffany Ballard, grandson, Collin Bettis, brother-in-laws, Jim Crawford and Darris Kompelien, step son-in- law, Tim Fruin, and step daughter, Lori Fruin.&nbsp;

Wanda Jean (Atkinson) Barbosa, 78, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, returned to The Lord Saturday, April 26th, 2025.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Wanda was born April 6th, 1947 in Saint Joseph, Missouri to Frank W. Atkinson and Evelyn A. (O'Callaghan) Atkinson. She graduated from Benton High School and completed two years of business school at Gards Business School.&nbsp;

She would later marry the love of her life Jesse Barbosa in June 8th, 1968 at Saint Patrick's Church in Saint Joseph, Missouri and later adopted their son, Patrick Barbosa. Wanda and Jesse shared 57 loving years of marriage together until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Evelyn Atkinson; brother Franklin Atkinson, Jr.; and sister in law Rosie Atkinson.

Surviving family include husband of the home Jesse Barbosa; son Patrick (Beth) Barbosa; grandchildren Mason (Erandy)Barbosa, Jude Barbosa and Melena Barbosa; and brother Bill Atkinson (Ramona).

Family meant everything to her. She was the organizer and wanted to get it done!

Mass of Christian Burial for Wanda will be held Friday, May 2rd, 2025 10:00 A.M. at Cathedral of Saint Joseph with an Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery to follow.&nbsp;

Joan "Jo Ann" Huber, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Carriage Square, surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was born on June 7, 1939 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Luther Allen and Naomi Lee (Earp) Auwarter. &nbsp;She was a lifelong resident and 1958 graduate of Lafayette High School.

Mrs. Huber was a homemaker, she was a devoted wife, loving mother and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.&nbsp;

Joan was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church. &nbsp;She enjoyed attending the early morning exercise classes at Alice's where she formed many friendships. &nbsp;She looked forward to weekly coffee meetings with friends, gardening, she enjoyed was an excellent cook, fishing with her husband, cheering on the Royals, but above all she loved attending her grandchildren's' sporting events and activities.

Joan married James Huber on May 22, 1958, and together they celebrated sixty-six years of marriage and raised their two children together. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband; son, James, Jr. (Joan) Huber; daughter, Gina (Lonnie) Gay; three grandchildren, Jasey (Brandon) Sparks, Hayley Gay and Dalton Gay; three great-grandchildren Oliver and Stella Sparks and Linnie Gay and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bernice McKerlie, Doris Wilson, Sue Clary, William DeVeal Auwarter and Donald Auwarter.

Mrs. Huber has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith &amp; Sidenfaden Chapel. &nbsp;A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later day.

Joan "Jo Ann" Huber June 7, 1939-April 26, 2025

&nbsp;Robert “Bob” Dean Meng, 85, of Wathena, Kansas passed away peacefully under hospice care on Saturday, April 26, at Two Timbers in Highland, KS.&nbsp;

Bob was born on July 29, 1939, in Gladden of Burr Oak Township in Doniphan County, Kansas, to Henry and Vera (Kiehnhoff) Meng. He was a lifelong resident and farmer of Doniphan County, and a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, where he also served on the board for many years.&nbsp;

He married his one and only, Dixie (Wykert) Meng, on September 16, 1961, at the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Wathena. They would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary before she passed last August.&nbsp;

In addition to full-time farmer, Bob was a seed dealer for a multitude of companies throughout the years. He also worked as a crop adjuster for a short time, and served on the Farm Bureau board for many years. He served on the USD 429 school district for twelve years,and was the Doniphan County Commissioner for four years. He was also a former member of the Lions Club. As busy of a man as he was, he always made time to cheer on his kids and grandkids.&nbsp;

Bob was the epitome of a small town farmer and he has left behind a legacy like no other, with generations to continue on the life and farm he built. He attended Kansas University for one year, before returning back home to farm. He was the founder of Meng Farms and enjoyed telling his son and grandson how to run the operation from his ranger or golf cart, while wearing his beloved blue overalls. In recent years, you’d always know he was around by the sound of his cane tapping the ground. He was a walking encyclopedia, who had a love for history. He knew no stranger and could talk for hours about anything. Bob was an ornery man, who always had something to say - whether it be full of knowledge or wit, you’d walk away with something new learned. He was the instigator of a fun time, and many were had.&nbsp;

His love for farming, his family, fresh peaches and homemade pie were unmatched. Although a man of many titles, being grandpa was his favorite, and he was a pretty special one. In addition, he carried the title of “Uncle Bozo” to many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He is once again reunited with the love of his life, whom we are just sure has a home cooked meal with an apple pie for dessert waiting for him.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers-in-law. &nbsp;Robert “Bob” Dean Meng, 85, of Wathena, Kansas passed away peacefully under hospice care on Saturday, April 26, at Two Timbers in Highland, KS.&nbsp;Bob was born on July 29, 1939, in Gladden of Burr Oak Township in Doniphan County, Kansas, to Henry and Vera (Kiehnhoff) Meng. He was a lifelong resident and farmer of Doniphan County, and a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, where he also served on the board for many years.&nbsp;He married his one and only, Dixie (Wykert) Meng, on September 16, 1961, at the Christ Lutheran Church in rural Wathena. They would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary before she passed last August.&nbsp;In addition to full-time farmer, Bob was a seed dealer for a multitude of companies throughout the years. He also worked as a crop adjuster for a short time, and served on the Farm Bureau board for many years. He served on the USD 429 school district for twelve years,and was the Doniphan County Commissioner for four years. He was also a former member of the Lions Club. As busy of a man as he was, he always made time to cheer on his kids and grandkids.&nbsp;Bob was the epitome of a small town farmer and he has left behind a legacy like no other, with generations to continue on the life and farm he built. He attended Kansas University for one year, before returning back home to farm. He was the founder of Meng Farms and enjoyed telling his son and grandson how to run the operation from his ranger or golf cart, while wearing his beloved blue overalls. In recent years, you’d always know he was around by the sound of his cane tapping the ground. He was a walking encyclopedia, who had a love for history. He knew no stranger and could talk for hours about anything. Bob was an ornery man, who always had something to say - whether it be full of knowledge or wit, you’d walk away with something new learned. He was the instigator of a fun time, and many were had.&nbsp;His love for farming, his family, fresh peaches and homemade pie were unmatched. Although a man of many titles, being grandpa was his favorite, and he was a pretty special one. In addition, he carried the title of “Uncle Bozo” to many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;He is once again reunited with the love of his life, whom we are just sure has a home cooked meal with an apple pie for dessert waiting for him.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers-in-law.
