Sandy Duncan, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025.
She was born February 5, 1947 in Freeport, Illinois, to F. Donald and Dorothy (Weckerly) Whalen. The family moved to Herington, Kansas, when Sandy was a small child, eventually settling in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Wichita High School Southeast, then earned her associate’s degree in secretarial studies from Wichita State University.
Sandy was a legal secretary for several law firms and court reporting firms in the Kansas City area. She relocated to St. Joseph 15 years ago after meeting the love of her life, Stephen Eugene Duncan. The two were wed on July 5, 2014.
Faith was very important to Sandy. She was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal church, where she served as senior warden for many years.
Sandy loved to sew and was famous for her Christmas stockings and cross-stitch, and also greatly enjoyed her flower gardens.
Most of all, Sandy loved to spend time with her family and cherished the time spent with longtime friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepdaughter, Jennifer Duncan; and brother, Gary Whalen.
Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Stephen; children, Stephanie Seigel (David), Kelley Ross, Matthew Sparks (Shena Latcham), and Chris Clapperton (Emily); 27 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family members and dear friends.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 20, Christ Episcopal Church. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 19, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
